Eh, why not. Though, I couldn't tell you of a single example of such construction anywhere in the Balkans, except for the reconstruction of war-damaged buildings & monuments, like Stari Most in Mostar.

It looks great, but it would look better if they left the buildings the brick color, instead of painting them neon, lime and orange.

The changed design of the "supertall" was finally released. As a reminder, they decided to change it to make it taller. But I didn't expect this! - Not only is it now taller ( not sure how much taller ) but they MOVED the "flag skyscraper" from independence square to be placed in front of the 101-tower. As a reminder, it was 60+ floorer. They also added some smaller towers.

And the design of the main "supertall" is also better than before, more classy and trully world class :yes:

Description

Zhulyany Airport is one of the key airports in Ukraine which has the international status. The airport is located within the city boundaries, at the distance of 8 kilometers from the city downtown.

In the close vicinity to the airport, there are a railroad and motor highway, which makes it possible in a few minutes to get to the train station, and very quickly to Boryspil Airport.

In accordance with the modernization project design, the airport will be divided into service area (60%) and business area (40%). The airport will have passenger, post delivery, and business terminals, a flying control officer tower, an administrative building with a small hotel for aircraft crews to have rest. On the other side of the so called red line (dividing service and free access areas), it is planned to build a state-of-the-art business center, a big entertainment and sports complex with retail facilities, an ice stadium, and movie theaters.

Yes, indeed. We're finally moving away from post-soviet insane architecture, when vulgarity meant class (probably because everyone wanted to build the opposite of grey soviet buildings )

BTW, about that trizub supertall, you guys seem confident, but are we sure about it? Did they get the permits yet? What is stopping them from starting the construction works, paperwork, financial guarantees, etc?

The problem is that we're always getting conflicting sources. On one hand, every other month there is a source saying that the project was approved. Latest was on October 19th which said that several from 40 to 60 story skyscrapers were also approved in a package with the supertall. And at the same time absolutely nothing is being done on the site, as our forumers report. So it's just a wait and see situation. Also, Kyiv has just got a new mayor, who is retarded. They limited high rise construction to 25 stories, but it was overruled apparently.

We got official information about the supertall (400m+ )

City council has allowed the construction of it, after all the necessary infrastructure is dealt with in the surroundings, and not anytime earlier than 2015.

I love everything about this new proposal, from the color to the polished shapes, except for the helipad which is just too much.

The city council for master planning and architecture has discussed Kyiv's masterplan for skyscraper development until the year 2020. There have been various proposals, all in all 34 tall structures are to be erected and/or planned.

The structures are positioned within a circular pattern around Kyiv, forming a ring, similar to those of other world cities such as Moscow.

Ok, so I understand that it is being built by Mirax.

But is the complex called "Mirax Plaza" or "Capital Center" like on the side of the building?

At first we thought it was Capital Centre, but now it seems that it's names going to be Mirax Plaza

I see.

So either they will change the siding to "Mirax Plaza" or get rid of it all together.

There's no skyline. Everything is too far apart with a lot of midrises in between.

But here is a picture of one of the central areas of the city at night

And this is Podil, one of the historical districts upfront, with the skyline of commieblocks in the back, which is the left-bank of the Dnipro river (which cuts the city in two, old and new, more or less).

Skyscraper skyline will only appear after a single business cluster begins to grow.
So far the best there is, in this respect, are mini-clusters of two towers.
There are plans for several unified clusters, but they're yet to begin construction.

City is large. Midrises, most 20-30 f are dispersed through the city. So, from different points you will see different skylines.
Some buildings will be hidden by the hills.

It's under construction, but the date 2008 may be a bit too early. This happens, unfortunately, quite often in Kyiv, so realistically I would add a couple more months to the date. But we'll see the progress and then we judge.

This looks great. But all reports show Ukraine to be lagging other EEC. So I am asking if you can tell me how many projects have begun. Because I honestly think that only 25 % of what I have seen here will be developed.
My company is intrested in developing something in Ukraine. But after seing your planned projects I honestly don't think that we have a chance.

Very nice project. I have been to Kiev many times, I loved it. People are wonderful and have still some friends there.

RODINVEST, lagging in what? If you mean investments then yes, we are lagging. But think of it this way: Ukraine is ranked the lowest in "Doing Business 2007" in Europe, and yet we are still getting plenty of cash flowing in. We are also ranked 174th of the 175 countries in difficulty of doign taxes. Add to this the constant political instability we have and you have one huge mess! BUT we are STILL getting cash in from investors despite these factors. Imagine what will happen when proper reforms take place! Then we'll see what the situation is really like.

As to the second part of your question, I have listed the current status of each of the buildings. As you can see over half of them are under construction. Of those that I put "in development", I can surely say that projects 18,20,22,32, and 33 will be realized because they are mostly sponsored by well known investors with plenty of cash.

Le_Clerk, by 2015 projects 1-12, 14-18, 20, 22, 29, 32, 33 are likely to be completed. The rest depend on approval from the building commission and reform in the "tall construction" industry.

That's very good for Kiev because IMO it's better to have only one quarter of skyscrapers. In Bucharest, due to lack of space they started building them all over the city...well not real skyscrapers because most of them are not more than 25 storeys...anyway, I am really annoyed by that and I hope a decent quarter of real skyscrapers will be built at some point somewhere where there's enough space.

Le Clark, that's exactly what they're doing in Kyiv too, all the highrises are scattered around the city. We only hope that there will be some concentrization in the future, of which there are (thank God) several plans.

Foreign investors started to enter Kyiv's market last year manly and invested something about 1.2-1.5 bln USD last year. Mainly they've got thier own money when entering market so buy completed projects or projects under construction.
Also they use money of foreign banks.
Ukrnainian companies can get money from local bank (which mostly belongs to strong foreign banks anyway like Parinbas, OTB, etc.), also they are credited by foreign banks directly and also some companies now go for IPO (TMM, KDD group) and also some companies are issue credit bonds to get money from private foreign investors (21 century).

Another Russian Company which is participating in construction of Moscow-city has entered Ukrainian market after Mirax Group -Moscow City Group. They will take part in construction Kyiv-City and should start construction of these 6 skyscrapers in May:

Thanks for this topic in english! Now I can understand more of all the new building projects. :up:
There really are a huge number of projects, although I don't like all of them. Many of them are in a very 'kitsch' extavagant style which I don't like.

Also I'm curious how to handle all the traffic with the extra number of inhabitants they will attract. I hope they will invest in good road corridors and Public Transport. Yes there are very good plans (seen in some of your posts and at http://urbanrail.net/eu/kie/kyiv-metro-projects.gif), But I hope there will be enough funds to actually build those metro lines. With 50 kopeks for a ticket you can't save money for investments in the metro network ;-).

HCM Group to build billion-dollar complex in Podil

A leading Ukrainian property development company is gearing up to construct a billion-dollar office and residential complex in Kyiv’s Podil district, partly backed by a Ukrainian billionaire.

HCM Group announced Feb. 14 plans to build a multi-functional, office-residential complex in an old industrial zone of 15 hectares between Novokostiantynivska and Frunze streets in Podil.

Offices, retail, entertainment venues, and a hotel with a cultural and exhibition center, and residences will go into the project. The complex will be one million square meters in area, 300,000 square meters of which will be underground.

“Considering the scale and characteristics, the project is unique not only for Kyiv, but for all of Ukraine,” HCM said in a statement.

HCM will finance the project with its own funds, along with loans and private investment, company officials said.

HCM’s partner will be Development Construction Holding (DCH), a real estate developer owned by Ukrainian billionaire Oleksandr Yaroslavskiy.

Korea’s Hanwon Forum Architectures & Engineers was hired to design the complex, having worked with HCM on a previous project.

Cooperation with Korean architects stems from a strong history of successful construction projects in Seoul, said Oleksandr Kostiuk, the executive director of HCM Group.

“Korean companies managed, within a short period of time, starting from the mid-1970s, to resolve many infrastructure and transportation problems of this big city,” he said.

Valeriy Kirilko, managing partner of Concorde Development, a Kyiv*based real estate services provider, said the “Kyiv market is ready for such a project since current demand in the city is so big that this project will not satisfy demand completely.”

He thinks that in the future, more and more such projects will appear in Ukraine “since construction of commercial real estate in city districts is the dominant future trend … and such projects will appear not only in Kyiv, but in Ukraine's regions too.” Kirilko noted that HCM Group is a company with a rather long history and it has already implemented many projects in Ukraine. “It occupies rather serious positions on the market overall,” said Kirilko.

DCH is a rather new company on the market but has already implemented five projects in Ukraine, he added. “It has good potential and in the future, it will demonstrate itself as a very successful and quality developer,” said Kirilko.

HCM said it plans to start construction of the new complex in 2009 or 2010.

Founded in 1998, HCM developed the luxury residential complex Sofiyivska Brama, the Ihorevskiy and Panorama business centers and the Opera boutique hotel in Kyiv, which is owned by tycoon Rinat Akhmetov.

The group also developed warehouse complexes in Obukhiv, south of Kyiv. Currently the company is managing some 50 projects in various segments of the property market.

HCM didn’t confirm how many apartments, offices and residences are in the works. Nevertheless, the company noted that the apartments will be business class.

Impossible to do of the whole city, but this is Rybalsky Pivostriv, which is going to be the central business district from 2011. It will be finally realized by 2018, first set of skyscrapers finished by 2011.

It's a massive set of projects, full cost is 15 billion dollars. The entire peninsula will be covered by four underground levels for communications and other infrastructure.

Investors include: Ukrainian, British, Turkish and Russian companies.
It will be three times bigger than Moscow City project. Kyiv "City" project is over 100 hectares.

This thread would be more attractive if there were less photos showing the same place. You definitely shouldn't post photos witch shows mess on the construction site like some containers, reinforcements laying on the ground, toy toys etc. Photos should show what is general picture of main investments. There is allot to show in Kiev but many photos shows nothing and its loading in ages.
