wow, IMO Elliot's beach is the best beach in Chennai!!!....when i was in Chennai this was favourite hangout place, after City Centre!...used spend most of sunday evenings on this beach. also the idli shop on the corner of beach road, near the church (dont know if the shop still exists), served a good variety of idlis!:cheers:...missing those days!!:)

Come on. If you don't allow sothu mootai inside semmozhi poonga, then people won't visit. Our people wants to spread their sothu mootai on the grass and eat kootanchoru and scatter the food morsels for the birds and rodents around. How can you prevent such noble acts?

recently saw that google maps has integrated services of www.360cities.net to panoramic photos of a spot in city. Chennai 3 spots covered(MGR samadhi, ashtalakshmi temple and a generalized market scene of chennai). Where as other cities has more coverage(Bang - 36, Mum -68, Del - 27, Kol - 30, hyd - 72)

Chennaites do some thing fast to get this visibility and poor perception of chennai fixed. since it is in google maps, the visibility and perception spreads fast. Need some good photographers who can take panoramic images. i see in some images self advertisement and marking is possible in these images...so all those creative heads..GOOOO... LETS DO IT!!! :grouphug:

360 is now prominent in "google earth" now. 360 bubble is prominent if you zoom in to any region in map. All i see in chennai is 3 360 spots. Potential tourists use these tools as we talk. So i am calling only creative heads who can do this job who are already making good contributions in chennai photography section.

360cities displays spherical panoramas. So one could view the location 360 degrees. Refer some examples in 360cities, pretty much anything could be captured under spherical panoramas. My recommendation of places should not be of any problem. Infact there is a market scene of chennai captured pretty well. here is link on how to do it,

I hope it rains heavily and cleans up the river naturally. I have always wondered if that was the solution :) else corporation has to think of diverting rain water into the river by building storm drains which open into th eriver??? What do you say what has the corporation planned?

That's right. Being close to the sea, the stench is diluted. Only in Saidapet, you feel it. When it rains, you won't feel the smell anywhere because the running water dilutes it.

With this year's rains, I think the smell right now will be less.

It doesn't stink near MRC Nagar or Adayar.

Also visiting this Chettinad Palace is not an issue. There are no securities and you can walk in leisurely all the way to the drawing room! There are a lot of photographs of leaders and other personalities.

It is very surprising that almost anybody could walk into a rich man's house like that. The estate alone will be around 300 acres! At today's prices, it must be close to a billion(?) dollars.

^^Nothing too great but the park is great lung space right in the heart of the city.

^^Wasn't this a green lung space even before and with a popular restaurant. Only the adhoc greenery is replaced with a more structured garden now.

It's a new park, and certainly better than your average corporation park (well, better than the average Chennai Corporation park I should say - not sure where you're from! :) )

I am basically from T.Nagar near Pondy bazar. I have seen Natesan park when it was at the best of its times, 25-30 years ago, with well mowed lawn, plenty of variety in plants, well lit and maintained walkways for users.
I haven't visited India for 51/2 yrs now but presume that some of the corporation parks now are well kept (atleast when they are inagurated). So, my comparison was based on what I see in pics.

^^ I will say the same about Jeeva Park on GN Chetty Rd during the 80s - those were the best times - movie actors used to jog along on many weekends. I visited the same park many years later only to find that there is no grass anywhere! :ohno:

Have seen more pictures of Semmozhi Park elsewhere; It is definitely looking way above any park we imagine in Chennai.

Parks in Kotturpuram, one in Nungambakkam (near Sastry Bhavan) and the one near apollo Hospital (it may be the same park seen from other side) made me think the standard of parks in Chennai has improved. However you can't stay there and relax in the evenings due to mosquitos!

I always thought even if 75% of actual fund allocated to any infra project in India goes in to the project, city would have been more than Singara Chennai by now. In reality I don't even think 40-50% ends up there after ransacking at multiple levels!
