Must say that both Orchid Towers and Capitale Towers in Chennai, are very impressive buildings. They have a distinctly traditional Indian look, yet are built and designed in a modern way. It's great as in one of the pics posted by Suncity shows, that they are building the second tower of the Orchid project.

I am not sure how far apart all these newer buildings are in Chennai, but they would make a very impressive CBD, if such is the case that they are in close proximity to each other!

Yes, as part of this project, slums adjoining the river are being removed, sewage lines diverted and the banks being replanted with trees to prevent against erosion. The Adyar river estuary has already been converted into a nature reserve.

However, once the project is completed, most of the river bank will not really be conducive for much else. The reason is that these will become largely seasonal rivers once all sewage inflows are diverted. There is no perennial source for these rivers and they are essentially flood channels for rain-based flows. Some water will still flow in the form of treated sewage, but it will be minimal.

The state government announced its intention to create a world-class IT Corridor on OMR more than a year ago. It backed up its statement by selling plots located on the OMR to IT companies. The plan was to have a world-class urban expressway with well-maintained landscaping on the IT corridor.

Is this Chennai at all? The buses don't look like MTC buses. This looks like Hyderabad to me.

I can make out that the statue is probably of Dr. B.R.Ambedkar and was inaugurated by the then President, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan. That may help identify the location of the statue.

It is Hyderabad for sure. See the HMWS&SB (not Chennai Metrowater) tanker as well as the sign on top of the building ahead, which says APTRANSCO and APGENCO (the Power Transmission and Power Generation companies respectively of Andhra Pradesh).

The memorial is named after Kaj Schmidt. If I'm not mistaken, he saved some lives during a storm while sacrificing his own.

The memorial looks poorly maintained. It can definitely use a makeover.

Fusi , its a very common scene in Pondicherry,

u can see foreigners with Lungi and esp women with 'metti = foot ring' and 'dot' on their foreheads, u can also see lot of foriegners coming to the temple with pooja materials(coconut,flowers etc) in their hands..its really awaesome to look at those people in such a way

Actually its a singapore company named The Lee Kim Tah

The multi-storeyed apartment blocks spread over 104 acres at Siruseri, about 20 km from Chennai on the Old Mahabalipuram Road, will initially have about 2,000 apartment units by 2007 end. When complete it could have up to 6,000 apartments making up a self-contained township with schools, healthcare, commercial complexes, entertainment facilities and parks.

Construction is to start by september...

A state-of-the-art building ‘Hallmark IT Park’ in Guindy Industrial Estate has bagged the prestigious Indian Building Congress Award for Excellence in Built Environment for 2004.

The 12-storeyed IT Park was planned and designed as a ‘Green Building’ by the well known Chennai-based architect firm M/s Oscar Concessao International (www.ociarchitects.com) managed by the Oscar and Ponni Concessao couple.

Oscar received the award from Union Urban Development Minister Gulam Nabi Azad at a function in New Delhi on July 21.

Promoted by Hallmark Foundations, the building has been taken by the leading IT company HCL Technologies for use as their software development centre.

‘‘The Hallmark IT Park is one of the first buildings to use large spans using post tension technology,’’ Oscar said. The architects came up with a design, which would entail maximum use of daylight and green building materials.

‘‘Several IT companies have constructed buildings with more glasses in the exterior. But we decided to have punch windows, which does away with the need for artificial lighting. The building is energy-efficient and minimum glass has been used to cut down on the air-conditioning costs. We also reduced the heat radiation,’’ he told this website’s newspaper.

Luckystreak, Almost every day you post more than 5 photos in various threads, from where do u get all those photos.

Of late I have not been searching for any pics...as I am not finding time....all the photos I am posting are lying in my harddisk since 3-4 months.....have some 1500 pics more to be posted....so trying to do it at an even pace....

Hi

I managed to take some 20 odd photos of Chennai from a fast moving Auto, during a recent visit. I will be posting some of them here and in my blog over the next few days depending on time. Hope you will enjoy.

Pictures in showcase gallery don't have to be great works of photography. They are just to have all permission granted copyright photos or photos taken by forum members. We are not here to judge photo quality. As long as the photos are relevant to this site, it is fine. So don't worry. I have seen the pics and they are fine.

That's a nice shot. Whish it were high resolution.

That river (in the pic posted by LS) looks like a drain - just as it would in any other Indian city. In any western or East Asian city, that river would have beautifully landscaped gardens and public places.

In India we refer to the rivers as our mother or goddesses or gods and then fill them up with sewerage.

Basic concerns about sanitation or sewerage disposal are almost completey missing in our societies.

The Satyam building looks cool. I have to say that Chennai is throwing up a lot of cool midrise modern buildings. If all these buildings were clustered in a planned area, Chennai's aerial or skyline view would have been captivating.

^^ The guindy industrial estate may turn into such a cluster in a couple of years.

Why does chennai not have any building taller than 20-30 stories ! I always wondered about it. Is there any regulation that stops the builders?
