_BPS_ November 14th, 2009, 02:37 PM Which one is Darius' tomb?
Khoshteep December 13th, 2009, 04:07 AM a relief which shows Shapur I is riding his horse in full glory and grandeur and the Roman emperor Valerian has bowed before him,
http://www.allempires.com/forum/uploads/CyrusShahmiri/2005-08-02_094530_Rostam.jpg
Just a small correction, the person depicted as kneeling is not Valerian, that is Marcus Julius Philippus (from birth to accession) or Caesar Marcus Julius Philippus Augustus (as emperor) also known as Philip the arab
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/84/Bust_of_emperor_Philippus_Arabus_-_Hermitage_Museum.jpg/250px-Bust_of_emperor_Philippus_Arabus_-_Hermitage_Museum.jpg
Valerian would be the gentleman giving his hand in solidarity/submission to Shapur I, Before him kneels Philip the Arab, in Roman dress, asking for grace. In his right hand the king grasps the uplifted arms of what may be Valerian; one of his hands is hidden in his sleeve as the sign of submission. The same scene is repeated in other rock-face inscriptions.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/40/Bas_relief_nagsh-e-rostam_al.jpg
This contradicts some other Roman historian (Lactantius) accounts that Shapur have publicly shamed Valerian by using the Roman Emperor as a footstool when mounting his horse. as depicted by "The Humiliation of Valerian by Shapur I. Pen and ink, Hans Holbein the Younger, c. 1521"
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a2/HumiliationValerianusHolbein.jpg/574px-HumiliationValerianusHolbein.jpg
in other stone carvings, Valerian is respected and never on his knees. This is supported by reports that Valerian and some of his army lived in relatively good conditions in the city of Bishapur and that Shapur enrolled the assistance of Roman engineers in his engineering and development plans such as the Caesar Dam near the city of Susa.
Valerian, the only Roman emperor captured alive in history.

It is generally supposed that some of Lactantius' account is motivated by his desire to establish that persecutors of the Christians died fitting deaths
Bishapur depiction of Shapur I (mounted on horse) clasping Emperor Valerian (standing to the left) and Phillip the Arab pleading for mercy (on his knee). Below the hooves of Shapur I’s steed is barely visible the trampled body of emperor Gordian III
