OrangeCity_ January 5th, 2008, 03:09 AM :bash:Can anyone give me update on Nagpur cargo Hub project? Civil Aviation ministry has'nt handed over Nagpur Airport yet to MADC.. Why so much delay? How many mopre companies starting the construction work?? When we can see some company actually start development centre at MIHAN Nagpur????
Its not looking good, I guess you were right. I read today that the NCP is trying hard to block the airport transfer. But its not all bad, the SEZ seems to be progressing fast.

jateenb January 5th, 2008, 09:37 AM Well i have been predicting it for quite some time.NCP leaders have their own IT SEZ's coming up in cities like Pune. Obviously MIHAN will be big stumbling block for them. Bcoz it offers everything right from SEZ, International Airport, Township, hotels. Further Nagpur has cost advantage. With govt. seriously thinking of cutting the tax cover for IT companies the best deal for such companies to move to SEZ and enjot TAX holidays. So i do'nt find any reason why now Nagpur Airport is not transferred. So some high level politics is being played to stop this project from coming up in Nagpur. It will a 'SUICIDE' if this project is stopped or moved out of Nagpur.Further it will help decongest cities like Mumbai and Pune. But then greed is supreme for politicians!!!!!!!
jateenb January 5th, 2008, 09:41 AM :bash::ohno:And if NCP-Shivsena govt. comes in Maharashtra then i am almost sure that 'MIHAN will be shelved or moved out of Nagpur'. So the old story continues... God Save it....
OrangeCity_ January 9th, 2008, 06:38 AM Jet Airways keen to set-up MRO facility by mid-2009
Shortlists Delhi, Nagpur, Bangalore, Hyderabad & Chennai; in talks with Boeing
Nagpur most probable choice due to Boeing's MRO
Buoyancy over the tremendous growth for the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, triggered by India's booming aviation industry, Jet Airways is now gearing to set-up its Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility. It has short-listed five cities - Delhi, Nagpur, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai for setting up the MRO facility and according to a highly placed official of the airline is expected to start by mid-2009 at an estimated cost of over Rs 200 crore.
According to the official, Jet Airways will mostly finalise Nagpur to set-up the MRO facility in collaboration with Boeing. "We are looking forward to set-up the MRO facility by mid-2009 and are currently in talks with Boeing for the same. If the deal is finalised, then it will be on a revenue-sharing basis. The partnership with Boeing will be a big help to set up the facility since Boeing has already identified Nagpur to start the facility," stated the official. Jet Airways is one of Boeing's premier clients in India with 60 aircraft of the Boeing family (8, 777-300E, 4, 737-400, 15, 737-700), 31, 737-800 and 2, 737-900) out of its total fleet size of 76 aircraft.

:ohno:Nagpur is most 'Probable' choice so we can't say upto its finalised. Earlier JET was thinking of 'Delhi' so why Nagpur now? But if it happens it would be fantastic. It would further fuel the growth of Nagpur. But they way 'Nagpur Airport Handover' issue is being handled we just can't say upto last minute about such project. So many proposed projects were moved out on Nagpur at last minute and since our politicians are too fool, naive and greedy we can't unless and untill we see these projects operational. I am keeping my fingers crossed

Of these, 223 projects the actual construction work is going on at only 4 per cent projects, informed NMC Construction Advisory Committee (CAC) chairperson Suresh Talvekar.

amco_in January 11th, 2008, 06:21 AM :ohno:Nagpur: The issue of transfer of Nagpur Airport to the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC)—for the Mihan project came up before the union cabinet on Thursday. However, the matter was put on hold as the union defence minister A K Antony has sought some more time to study the cabinet note on the issue.
Since the whole issue includes a land-swap deal between the MADC and Indian Air Force (IAF), Antony sought some more time to study the cabinet note. The minister had returned late in the night from his official foreign visit, due to which he did not get time to study the matter. Considering his request the prime minister has said that the issue would be taken up after a week’s time, said highly placed sources. The defence ministry wants time to study the issue as it involves IAF’s interest too. IAF has a vital transport base on the land proposed to be used for Mihan project. It has been decided to offer the IAF a fresh land in lieu of what will be taken over for the Mihan project
The land swap apart from the airport transfer s one of the key factors on which the ambitious Mihan project depends. The MADC will be using 268 hectares of IAF’s land in lieu of which a tract of 400 hectares will be offered to the IAF. The deal awaits an approval from the defence ministry though other modalities have been decided. MADC has already identified the alternative land to be offered to the IAF .
IAF operates its IL-76 base of transport aircraft from Nagpur. With its central location, Nagpur is an ideal site for IAF’s logistical needs. The base was used for several key operations including providing relief material to quake hit Pakistan two years ago.

Nagpur: In a historic decision, the Union cabinet on Thursday gave its approval to transfer of Dr Ambedkar International Airport to a joint venture company to be set up for development of multi-modal international passenger and cargo hub airport at Nagpur (Mihan). The transfer will pave way for speedy implementation of a dream project conceived over a decade ago but was languishing for want of political support.
This is the first decision of its kind because unlike Mumbai and Delhi airports, which were trasferred to private companies involved in air-port development, the Nagpur airport will be transferred to a new en-tity in which the state and the Central governments will have stakes. The transfer lease will be for 30 years.
The cabinet while clearing the transfer also decided to refer the Mi-han project to a committee of secretaries for a financial assessment. The committee headed by the Cabinet secrfetary will comprise by chief secretyary of Maharashtra, finance secretary and secretary of civil aviation ministry, according to official sources.
"The decision of the Union cabinet came after Maharashtra govern-ment proposed to develop the Nagpur airport into a domestic and in-ternational passenger and cargo hub, primarily due to its geographi-cal location that is best suited for the purpose. In a move that will en-courage economic activity in Vidarbha region, the Cabinet approved the transfer to the JVC comprising Maharashtra Airport Develop-ment Company (MADC) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI)," information and broadcasting minister P R Dasmunsi told reporters in Delhi after the cabinet meeting.
In the joint venture firm, the AAI -- which owns owns the airport at present --would hold 49 per cent stake and MADC would have the remaining 51 per cent of equity. The Cabinet also approved AAI sub-scribing to Rs 4.9-crore capital in the JVC, which would have a total subscribed capital of Rs 10 crore.
"A major obstacle is now cleared. It has now opened a new chapter and put more responsiblity on MADC and my team to implement the project," said MADC vice-chairman R C Sinha. Addressing newspersons in Nagpur on Thursday, Sinha said major credit for getting the aiport transfer done finally goes to city MP and Union minister of state for renewable energy Vilas Muttemwar as well as chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh who is also chairman of MADC who worked tire-lessly to get the matter expedited," added Sinha. He said it will take at least three months for formation of the JVC and handing over of the aiport.:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:
amco_in January 18th, 2008, 06:22 AM :banana:NAGPUR: A whopping Rs 2,200 crore will be required for setting up the Mihan project, which includes a cost escalation of 28 per cent over the estimate when the project was initially approved.
The increased requirement of funds has also led the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) to consider options such as bonds and private equity. MADC is expected to have a majority stake in the joint venture company to be set up for executing Mihan project.
MADC's vice-chairman-cum-managing director R C Sinha said various methods of raising funds are being mulled, which include bonds, private equity, securitisation of realisables and leasing out of surplus lands.
However, Sinha said the exact quantum to be raised through each method is yet to be decided. While bonds would be raised from the open market, securitisation of assets will amount to securing loan against the future revenues.
A substantial chunk of surplus land may also be leased out for various commercial purposes which may help in raking funds. He said Mihan is expected to attract an investment of around Rs 33,000 crore.
Sinha added that at present, MADC has enough funds to start the work. It has received Rs 150 crore from the state government. Another Rs 45 crore, which is due since 2002, is expected in the coming days. However, Sinha has demanded that the outlay be increased considering the cost escalation in last five years.
He said the total project cost has witnessed a seven per cent escalation per year. It was in year 2003 when the state government had given an in-principle approval for taking over the airport from Airport Authority of India.
However, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the state government and union ministry of aviation in this regard only on December 18, 2006.

OrangeCity_ January 19th, 2008, 05:05 PM MADC to focus more on garments, food processing industries
WITH the major bottleneck in the development of MIHAN finally over after the Union Cabinet’s approval of airport transfer to a joint venture company between MADC and MIHAN, things are expected to move at a faster pace here.
Speaking to The Hitavada, General Manager of Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd., Ramesh Yaul said that the approval of Union Cabinet to transfer the Dr Ambedkar airport to MADC is a welcome step and would certainly pep up our efforts in making the dream project of MIHAN a reality. Yaul said that the approval of the Union Cabinet is ‘final’ and not ‘in principle’. However, procedural formalities and issues like valuation of assets of Airport Authority of India (AAI), future of staff of AAI, stake of MADC and AAI in the joint venture would take some time, he said. Yaul said that MADC is in consultation with various companies in sectors such as garments, electronic goods, pharmaceutical, processed foods, gems and jewelleries, for setting up their ventures in the processing zone of MIHAN. The Multi Modal International Passenger and Cargo Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) has already attracted investments from national and international IT majors including Ascendas, Satyam, Wipro, HCL, TCS, DLF, L&T Infocity to name a few. “Our kitty of IT companies is full. We would now concentrate equally on other employment generating industries in MIHAN,” said Yaul. Apart from IT, our focus will now be on industries such as garments, pharmaceutical, food processing, etc.,” said Yaul. Major garments and textiles manufacturing groups including Raymond’s, Adani Group, Bombay Dyeing among others have evinced interest in setting up their industries here, said Yaul.

The Union Cabinet recently gave its 'in-principle' approval for transfer of Dr Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur to the Joint Venture (JV) Company comprising Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd. (MADC) for upgradation of the airport to a world-class Multi Modal International Passenger and Cargo Hub (MIHAN).
The Union Cabinet also gave its approval to invest an amount of Rs 4.90 crore by AAI in the equity of the Joint Venture Company. The development is expected to help improve tourism and international trade in the region, as well as enable optimum utilisation of the airport.
amco_in February 6th, 2008, 06:44 AM Nagpur: In what can be called as a move to expedite the lingering Gorewada international zoo project in the city, the post of director, ‘Project Gorewada’, has been brought under the control of principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF), wildlife, Maharashtra.
Till now, the director used to report directly to the principal secretary (forests) but now he will have to report through the PCCF (wildlife). The decision is expected to give a big boost to the already delayed project which was announced in 2005, but has hardly gained momentum in last three years. The cost of the project is Rs 550 crore but till date, only Rs 22.50 lakh were granted for preparing master plan, database of flora and fauna and beautification works.
Although the decision was taken by the state government on January 23, the orders to this effect were received at ‘Van Bhavan’ only three days ago. When contacted, B Majumdar, PCCF, wildlife, confirmed he had received the orders in this regard. “I had never asked for it and the decision has been taken at the government level.” On the issue of retendering process of master plan for the zoo, the chief wildlife warden said, “We’ll submit the revised tender to the government soon.”
This means that the government has rejected Singapore-based Bernard Harrison and Friends for preparing the master plan. The TOI had earlier reported that the finance department had raised objections to offering tender to Bernard. The department had also objected to the post of director working under the direct control of principal secretary (forests), surpassing both the PCCFs.
Talking to TOI, Jarnail Singh, director, ‘Project Gorewada’, said, “It’s true that government has issued instructions to report through PCCF (wildlife). We’re preparing the conditions for the retendering of the master plan and I hope, within a month, the process would kickstart.” Jarnail Singh, who took over the reins as director in May 2007, was given independent charge of the zoo project on August 10, 2007. The latest letter issued by the government states that all the crucial issues pertaining to grants, tendering process of master plan, establishing co-ordination between various institutions and authorities would now wrest with the wildlife PCCF.
According to forest department sources, the terms and conditions have already been approved by the law and judiciary department. In the new retendering process, two envelopes — prequalification and offer — would be invited. Giving an offer to any firm would be decided on the basis of pre-qualification bid. The officials said, they now expect the project would gain momentum.
OrangeCity_ February 7th, 2008, 05:27 PM City rly station set to become world class
http://news.hitavadaonline.com/news/index.php?mode=single&page=10&n=18564
NAGPUR: The Ministry of Railways has chosen Nagpur for development as a world class station. The formal announcement is expected during the forthcoming railway budget. Top officials of Central Railway have already informed Nagpur-based officials about the development, it is learnt.
A world-class station is assured of a one time support of at least Rs 100 crore to ensure latest gadgets are in place looking. An international consultant is appointed to suggest plan for modification keeping in view future challenges for the railways. At Nagpur, the the works need to be done for better movement of passenger as well as goods trains. Also, the main station building on the Western side is a heritage structure. That cannot be modified. So the consultant will have to think of improving amenities within existing structure or take up development on eastern side. In Nagpur, the main goods line on North-South sector is located bang in middle of station. It lies between platform no. 1 and 2. Because of this line, the railways do not have flexibility in broadening of the Platform no. 1. The authorities are thinking in terms of upgrading the existing infrastructure like retiring rooms, platforms, and creating modern amenities like passenger elevators, muticuisine restaurant, shopping mall, etc. The main stress at Nagpur station will be development of Eastern side building. The proposal is pending for want of money since long. But as envisioned long back, a replica of main building might finally take shape on the Santra Market side too, said the sources. On Western side, there are limitations for development. But in the Eastern side the railways have huge space with them and that can be put to good use. A muti-layered parking lot can also come-up. Also, there might be proposal for setting up of a hotel, as envisioned in development plans of other stations. With MIHAN finally shaping-up in Nagpur, it was but natural for Ministry of Railways to develop the railway station as one having world class facilities. The MIHAN will transform Nagpur city and there are reports of five lakh new jobs being created. Hence, railways do come into picture and therefore the station needs to be prepared to handle the extra passenger rush.

OrangeCity_ February 23rd, 2008, 06:06 PM http://www.indianmuslims.info/news/2008/feb/22/venetian_township_takes_shape_nagpur.html
Nagpur : Even as this fast growing city in the heart of the country is witnessing unprecedented housing boom around the upcoming international cargo hub to the north, a unique mini-township wearing a European façade is taking shape near its northern end.
Proclaimed as central India's premier mini-township, Pancham Estate boasts of a unique feature, dubbed "Venetia", comprising compact, economical apartments that resemble those in Venice and similar European cities, besides luxury villas, row houses and shopping malls.
"I want to prove that decent housing can be affordable for an average salaried person," Amit Panchmatia, promoter of Pancham Estate, told IANS.
With 250 families already living in Pancham Estate, the township will have a school and a hospital besides a clubhouse, manicured gardens with jogging tracks and playgrounds by the time the project is complete with about 1,000 families staying in, he said.
"The middle-class owners of the highly affordable Venetia flats will live here in the rich neighbourhood of high-end villas without feeling one bit inferior," said Panchmatia, an engineering graduate from the city with a master's degree in Science from the US.
The self-made real estate proprietor who bought 75 acres for his dream project much before land prices in the city soared, thanks to the upcoming multi-modal international hub airport of Nagpur or Mihan project.
Many more townships including those being executed by global players are coming up in and around the city known for its oranges, though Pancham Estate, already 25 percent complete, would be the first to be commissioned, hopefully by 2011.
Among the other high-profile projects are Sahara City and First City towards south of the city on Wardha Road in the vicinity of Mihan and Empress City right in the heart of Nagpur.
Reatox, an Indian subsidiary of a Malaysian real estate developer Mantri Group and P.D. Gupta Infrastructure are among some big names involved in the dizzying activity.
IT infrastructure developers DLF and Maytas (Satyam's real estate wing) have already bought land for a special economic zone (SEZ) being developed in conjunction with Mihan to create housing facilities for a string of IT companies coming up in the dedicated park slotted for them.
The Tata hotels group, the Kamats of Orchid fame and Radisson have already rolled up their five-star plans. Jagdamba Realtors have bought 250 acres for their ultramodern farmhouses and a host of clubs and tennis courts are on the skyline.
"Sun and Sand's five-star hotel is 60 percent complete," said leading estate developer A.S. Iyer, who is doing the project along with the bigger one - the Jagdamba farmhouses.
"Jagdamba Realtors also have plans for a five-star hotel a few kilometres from Mihan," Iyer told IANS.
Side by side with this is the state-of-the-art cricket stadium of the Vidarbha Cricket Association that it says will be the best in India - all this on Wardha Road that leads to Mahatma Gandhi's Sewagram and its Bapu Kuti.
While this is happening on the outskirts, real estate prices are multiplying manifold even inside the city with big deals rivalling those in the four Indian metros making news from time to time.
Swanky multiplexes and malls popping up here and there are completing the story of the once sleepy city's amazing metamorphosis that started eight years ago with its Integrated Road Development Project.

MUMBAI: Ministry of Commerce and Industry has proposed to spend over $81 million to modernise and upgrade Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) infrastructure in the country and set up a "think tank" centre in Nagpur.
"We propose to spend $81.25 million as part of phase II of modernisation of IPR. It would be taken to Cabinet anytime for clearance," Commerce and Industry Joint Secretary Naresh Nandan Prasad said at a CII seminar here.
The modernisation would include hiring staffers, computerisation, upgradation of the infrastructure and setting up of National Institute of Intellectual Property Management in Nagpur.
"We plan to invest USD 6.25 million in setting up National Institute of Intellectual Property Management centre. It would meet the requirements of training, education, research and would be a think-tank," Prasad said.
The stone-laying ceremony in Nagpur is expected to take place in March.
At present, Intellectual Property offices are located in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.
As part of the modernisation, the ministry plans to hire 1,380 more staff to speed up the patent and trademark application process, he said.
With an increase in staff strength, around 70,000 patent applications and two lakh trademark applications could be processed by 2012, he said.

OrangeCity_ March 5th, 2008, 01:34 AM THE retail ripple is fast turning into a roller. Newest in the list to make foray in the city will be Spencer’s Retail, one of the largest supermarket chains in India. The RPG group owned chain is planning to open about 10 stores in Nagpur in the next two months.
“We have finalised about 8 to 10 properties in Nagpur,” said Nimesh Shah, Vice President, Operations (Western Region), Spencer’s Retail Limited, while speaking to The Hitavada from Mumbai. Shah however did not specify about the locations for their new stores. Shah said that the group is quite bullish about Nagpur region as a whole. Speaking about their future plans, Shah said that they are simultaneously looking at the option of opening stores in other parts of Vidarbha too as it would then form a ‘cluster’ making the supply chain operations more viable in the region. When asked about what exactly would be on offer to the people, Shah explained that Spencer’s was more of a food and grocery retailer. “Basically, it will be a mix of hyper and small stores in Nagpur,” he said. Highlighting about the group’s robust presence in the country, Shah said that Spencer’s Retail has close to 500 stores across India spread in about 1.5 million square feet of prime space. Emphasising on the USP of Spencer’s, Shah said that it is the endless choice of foods including exotic fruits & vegetables, sauces & supplies for favourite international cuisine’s, and imported foods, that makes shopping at Spencer’s so special. Added to these are a wide range of diet food, organic food and speciality cuisine’s. We also offer a range of quality food products exclusively under the Spencer’s brand name, said Shah. Spencer’s is believed to have pioneered the retail revolution in India by introducing the concept of speciality stores like FoodWorld, Health and Glow and Music World. It is also credited with introducing the Indian consumer to the first ever Hypermarket. Spencer’s Retail operates in four formats including Spencer’s Hyper, Spencer’s Super, Spencer’s Daily and Spencer’s Express. The Spencer’s Hypermarkets are huge destination stores spread over 25,000 square feet area while Spencer’s Super is a bit smaller covering about 8000-15,000 square feet area. Apart from daily needs, it stocks home care products including personal care products, bakery, chilled and frozen food including meat, baby care besides groceries & staples, fresh fruits and vegetables. The Spencer’s Daily store is much smaller in size spread across 4000-7000 square feet while Spencer’s Fresh stores with 2000 square feet of area providing fresh food such as fresh farm produce, vegetables, fruit, milk, eggs, breads, etc., informed Shah.

Just two days before I roamed around Nagpur and I got some surprises.
I have seen Sangam theatre near Nandanvan painted red and there is a board as "Adlabs Sangam" and I heard that it is going to start very soon.
Again some renovation of Jasvant theatre is going on and there I have seen "INOX" board. I checked both sites but there is no update till now. Can any one confirm me this?

MUMBAI: Real estate developer Mantri Realty on Monday said the company along with IL&FS will set up an IT-SEZ at Nagpur.
The project has already received the Union Government's approval and construction work for Phase 1 of the project has begun this month, Mantri Group Chairman Sunil Mantri told reporters here today.
The entire project would be completed in three phases and construction work on the remaining two phases would begin from December this year and in June next.
The total cost of the project is around Rs 600 crore, of which Rs 150 crore would be equity while the remaining Rs 450 crore would constitute debt, Mantri said.
Mantri Realty and IL&FS, the infrastructure development and finance company, would invest Rs 75 crore each as equity in the project, he said, adding that the balance would be raised from financial institutions with whom discussions were in progress.
The project will comprise of around 4.4-million sq ft of IT/ITeS space while 0.2-million sq ft would be used for retail purposes.
"We are investing Rs 40 crore on making the building `green', which would help us at the time of carbon credit rating in the future," Mantri said.
Mantri Realty, a part of the Mantri group, has so far developed 15 million sq ft in different cities of the country.
The company and its associates have a land-bank of over 2,000 acres across the country at an estimated valuation of USD 2.5-billion.

:bash:Nagpur: The big buck land deals on the outskirts of the city especially Wardha Road, has led to several legal tangles too. There have been a spurt in litigation against alleged breach of contract by land owners, by selling the land to others despite agreeing into a formal agreement with a different party.
A number of cases have been reported in which the original owner of the land has entered into an agreement to sale with more than one prospective buyer by accepting a token amount. The token amount ranges from Rs 5 lakh to a crore. However, the land is sold to the party offering the highest price irrespective of earlier agreements. This, obviously, leads to the aggrieved parties approaching the court. Though the token amount is returned, it leads to a breach of legal contract.
In fact the recent income tax search on a solvent manufacturer to probe his unaccounted income earned in a land deal at Wardha Road, brought to fore a similar case. It was found that agreements of sale were drafted with four prospective buyers, and the seller had received token amount from each of them.
Adv Shyam Dewani pointed out that tremendous hike in property rates had led to such a phenomenon. Lawyers are busy filing cases for specific performance of the contract. Which means adherence to the original contract which is allegedly broken.
Earlier, parties used to adhere to an oral commitment. However, nowadays there have been breaches despite formal agreements being drawn.
Citing a case a plaintiff ’s lawyer said that an agriculturist had entered into such an agreement to sell and also published a public notice in newspapers about it. Soon another public notice was published cancelling the first deal. However, the earlier buyer approached the court after this.
There have been such instances in land deals apart from Wardha Road too. Another lawyer Nitin Lalwani also spoke of one his clients involved in such a case over a land deal on Hingna Road.
In such a case one can get civil remedy through specific performance or initiate criminal proceedings. Normally in a civil case, the party with which the agreement was drafted first has a prior right, said a senior lawyer.
Chartered Accountant Deepak Heda said the phenomenon of rising litigation is evident from the number of public notices and advertisments appearing in newspapers. As a precaution the buyer should also publish an advertisement to confirm if any prior deal has been struck.
Naresh Jhakotia also a chartered accountant, suggested that the government must come up with a mechanism of registering such initial agreements so that any buyer can inquire about the land’s status through official records.

Sid_NGP April 22nd, 2008, 06:53 AM NEW DELHI, INDIA: The Indian BPO industry has an ambitious target of achieving five-fold growth (US$50 billion in revenues as compared to current US$11 billion) in the next five years. The resultant talent requirements cannot be met by solely by the Tier 1 locations such as Bangalore, Mumbai and NCR. The industry will need to aggressively tap cities such as Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Nashik, and many more to meet about 50-60 percent of its projected talent requirements by 2012. Realizing this fact, many State Governments in India are planning to build BPO Hubs in Tier 2/3 cities within their states to attract investment and get onto the worldwide BPO map. For instance, the government of Gujarat plans to develop the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar area as a Financial Services BPO hub.

The 300 mw Group Captive Power Project (GCPP) being set up by Vidarbha Industries Power (VIPL), a special purpose vehicle (SPV) formed by Reliance Power, at Butibori near Nagpur in Maharashtra, will soon enter the construction phase.
Sources said the required land has been acquired and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has given the green signal for setting up the project.
Reliance Power will soon award the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the Rs 1500 crore project. The project is expected to take off by 2010, said sources.
The Butibori project is one of the first major power projects being set up in India under the GCPP concept. Power produced from the plant will be mainly supplied to the industrial consumers in Maharashtra at subsidised tariffs.

phaedrus May 30th, 2008, 01:40 PM AAI to hand over Nagpur airport to MADC in a month
THE Airports Authority of India (AAI) is likely to hand over the Nagpur airport to the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) within a month. MADC vice-chairman and managing director RC Sinha told ET on Wednesday that the much-delayed transfer of airport assets would clear a major hurdle in developing a multi-modal international cargo hub and airport (Mihan) at Nagpur.
MADC and AAI have floated a joint venture company for the project, but the company’s financial structure is yet to be finalised. “In February 2008, the Union Cabinet gave an in-principle consent to transfer the Nagpur airport to MADC. But at that time, the financial structure of the JV had not been defined. The cabinet wants a note on the JV before the airport is finally handed over,” Mr Sinha said on the sidelines of a presentation on Mihan and socio-economic possibilities for Nagpur and Vidarbha regions organised by Rotary Club of Midtown.
He said MADC has hired Ernst & Young to work out a financial structure based on the assets held by the joint venture partners. Based on the financial model, a note would be prepared for the Union Cabinet. “It will be submitted to the finance and civil aviation ministries. The entire procedure could take about a month, at the end of which AAI would transfer the airport,” Mr Sinha said.
He said AAI should have handed over the airport to MADC much earlier. Transfer of Nagpur airport is central to MADC’s plan to extend the existing runway and developing a second runway as well as building a huge terminal spread over three lakh sq mt.
The Rs 7,000-crore Mihan project, to come up on over 4,454 hectares, includes developing a special economic zone spread over 2,086 hectares that will have IT parks, a health city and a biotech park. Mr Sinha has pegged an investment of Rs 40,000 crore in the project, which would provide direct employment to 1.2-1.5 lakh. The social and recreational infrastructure being built for the project would ensure that at least 40% of the directly employed people can ‘walk to work’, said Mr Sinha. So far, MADC has sold 1,500 acres to IT majors, realty companies, hospitality industry and educational institutes.
In order to ensure uninterrupted power supply, MADC is also setting up a 400-mw captive power plant, which will sell power only to Mihan projects and units in the SEZ at Rs 2.97 per unit, Mr Sinha said. Work on developing infrastructure for the project is on fast track and MADC has completed 60% of the road works.

THE ambitious Abhyankar Road Widening and Buty Mahal Street Scheme lying in limbo for several years is expected to crystallise soon provided things move in proper direction. Judicious planning and meaningful dialogue between the parties concerned including tenants, owners, developers and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) would go a long way in making the mega scheme a reality, believe insiders.

Mother of all deals: WHC Road land fetches Rs 16,500 per sq ft
Jun. 4th, 2008
by Rahul Pande & Manish Soni
NAGPUR: When realty market in the metros is cooling down, Orange City’s seems to be scaling new heights. In what can be described as mother of all deals, a prime land situated on the busy West High Court (WHC) Road has fetched a mind-boggling Rs 16,500 per sq ft. The deal struck recently has once again rejuvenated the realty market and has become a talk of the town.
Sources in the know of things revealed that the over 12,000 sq ft plot situated on West High Court Road between Indian Coffee House Square and Tilak Nagar canal has been purchased by a leading developer for a whopping Rs 19.80 crore. This works out to Rs 16,500 per sq ft. At this price, an acre of land on WHC Road can fetch Rs 72.60 crore, a rate comparable with the costly Bandra-Kurla Complex of Mumbai. Though the plot has a FSI of 1.25, but using new norms and developmental control rules, a developer can build up to 1.85 times the plot area. In this case, over 22,000 sq ft of saleable area, sources said. WHC properties had always fetched astronomical prices and builders competed with each other to grab every inch of land on the busiest stretch of Nagpur with proven business potential. A leading developer conceded that any project on WHC Road is sold like hot cakes. Leading corporate houses and financial institutions are ready to offer premium rates for quality projects here. An old resident of WHC road, who too is receiving several offers from leading business houses, pointed out that hardly two or three old big properties are available for commercial development, without tenants. Therefore, it is not surprising that this particular property, with clean title, had fetched a record price. The developer who had finalised the deal was tight-lipped about the details and refused to comment. However, hose in the know of things pointed out that projects on similar lands in the vicinity turned out be very profitable for the developers. Hitherto, Ramdaspeth area had witnessed many record land deals with developers purchasing land at Rs 6,500/- to Rs 7000/- per sq ft. A luxury flat scheme coming up in Ramdaspeth area commanded rate of Rs 1.80 crore per apartment. The scheme was fully booked before its formal launch. Similarly, Nagpur Vinkar Sut Girni land on Umrer Road was auctioned for Rs 81.63 crore or close to Rs 4 crore per acre by a leading infrastructure firm. After Wardha Road property boom, most developers had invested heavily on Wardha Road lands and considering the slow-down in property markets following steep hike in construction material and rise in land costs, very few developers were ready to purchase costly properties situated in prime localities. This deal has the potential to change the realty market for better.

amco_in June 21st, 2008, 04:30 AM Flying Club starts ground operations
:banana:NAGPUR: Here's good news for all those flying enthusiasts who waited for a decade and half for reopening of British-era Nagpur Flying Club (NFC). The club has commenced its full-fledged ground operations and inducted trainees have started flying.
The state government in its affidavit before the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Friday has informed that the flying club that was defunct for over 14 years has been revived and started operations. The affidavit filed by NFC managing director MAH Khan stated that induction process of the special batch comprising 10 candidates was underway and so far six trainees were selected out of 26 applications.
The flying training of these candidates had begun and more students would be inducted in future. Additionally, regular activities involving license renewal endorsement, skill test and patter flying endorsement activities have also commenced.
The affidavit further mentioned that NFC's second aircraft Cessna 152VT-EUL has received certificate of airworthiness from Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Bhopal on June 18 and now the club has two aircraft for providing training. The club's another aircraft Cessna-152 VT-ENC has already secured DGCA certificate on November 21 last year.
The DGCA's Delhi-based headquarters in April had accorded permission to the club as 'Flying institute' which enabled the NFC officials to induct trainees for Private Pilot License (PPL) and train them on its three aircraft.
The NFC's reopening has came as a major success for advocate Shriniwas Deshpande and other club members who were fighting for the NFC's reopening since last one and half decades. The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court also played a major part in the club's reopening.
During the last hearing, a special division bench comprising justices Kishor Rohee and justice S R Dongaonkar directed the DGCA officials to provide the requisite permission for starting NFC's operations within a month. The state government has already appointed Chief Flying Instructor (CFI) Captain Mugi Dhanraj and made other two aircraft ready.
The British-period NFC marked its revival after successfully testing its Cessna-152 VT-ENC aircraft on November 14 last year and also secured a 'Certificate of air-worthiness' from DGCA.

_GrapeWine_ August 26th, 2008, 07:47 AM Major hotels make reservations in city
26 Aug 2008, 0445 hrs IST, Shishir Arya,TNN
NAGPUR: The Mihan-fuelled realty boom is making several big hotel groups check into Nagpur.
Both national as well as global players in the sector have lapped up lands off Wardha Road, perceived to be the most happening tract in the city.
Some seven new players have plans to set up star hotels with some of them having already begun work. The first of these are expected to begin welcoming guests by 2010.
Recently, Mumbai-based Fariyas Group, having premium properties in Mumbai and Lonavala, has purchased a 2-acre tract in Khamla with plans to set up a 200-room five-star hotel there.
The plot has direct access to Wardha Road through Jaitala Road and is close to the airport. The building housing the over 50-year-old Marathi daily Tarun Bharat at Ramdaspeth is also set to pave way for a three-star hotel.
The Gurgaon-based Radisson Group has already started work on a five-star hotel off Wardha Road, and the Taj Group is also coming up with a hotel in the much-touted Empress City.
Sources say some of the hospitality majors purchased land off Wardha Road and plan to begin work in future. These include groups like Hyatt and Leela, among others.
Such groups have made investment three to four years ago, at that time the total investment would have come at around Rs 120 crore.
Today, only the land would be worth around Rs 700 crore. Building a star hotel would require an investment of at least Rs 100 crore and may go up depending upon the size, status and amenities offered, said an insider.
"Given the growth prospects, Nagpur was the next destination in Maharashtra. We have plans to set up with a five-star hotel with over 200 rooms," said a senior Fariyas Group executive.
The site off Khamla Road was chosen because it is close to the airport and yet slightly away from the busy Wardha Road, he added. Though he remained tight-lipped over the quantum of investment, he added that the group would come up with a modern hotel with a local flavour.
An executive of Radisson Group said that they aimed to finish construction by 2010. It too is coming up with a 200-room five-star hotel.
Appu Wadhwani of Heera Laxmi Infrastructure said the company had bought the Tarun Bharat property and expected to get possession by December. It hopes to complete construction of a three-star hotel at the site that admeasures 19,000 square feet in 18 months.
However, Anil Dandekar, Managing Director of Narkesari Prakashan and publisher of Tarun Bharat, refused to comment. Other players learnt to be coming up with hotels include The Kamat Group having Orchid chain of hotels as well as the Sun and Sand Group.
Former president of Vidarbha Industries Association Suresh Agrawal said the investments would bring a huge change in the city's profile.
"The top hotels would increase the city's appeal and make it even more attractive for investment. It would also give a fillip to ancillary industries and increase quality employment," he noted.

It is learnt that NMC will apply for a Rs 350 crore grant under JNNURM. However, the corporation proposes to collect full user charges for assets created under JNNURM. The civic body has created a new tariff with a view to recover the full cost, to be incurred towards operation and maintenance of the water supply project.
The official said that this was not the first city water supply project put on PPP mode. Many cities are experimenting with water supply on PPP as a pilot project. "Nagpur city is currently implementing one pilot project on PPP mode and based on the positive result, we are now moving ahead to bring the entire city water supply scheme under PPP mode," he said.
NMC recently invited expression of interest for this project, it is learnt. The selected bidder will be required to finance the capital expenditure required to rehabilitate, repair, maintain and provide proper backup for refurbishing and replacing water supply infrastructure.
It is understood that NMC will grant 25-year exclusive rights of operating of water supply services to the selected bidder, including collection of water charges on behalf of the civic body and retain an operator's fee in proportion of the quantum of water supplied and sold. The operator's fee is intended to cover eligible expenditure incurred by the operator for running the project.
Nagpur has a population of over 2.5 million spread across 217 sq. km. The total water supply of the city is over 500 mld per day with 225,000 connections and 2,100 km of pipeline network.

Second, a private hospital which avails of a higher FSI must keep 10 per cent of its total beds reserved for the people who belong to the economically-weaker section and people below the poverty line.

Care Group Partners with John Hopkins to Set-up Health City
Around Rs 750 crore to be invested in the project
US-based healthcare major John Hopkins in partnership with Hyderabad based Care Hospitals Group along with real estate developer Indu Projects, will be setting up a 2,000-bedded health city in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The conglomerates will invest around Rs 750 crore in the project through a mix of debt and equity.
The Maharashtra Airport Development Authority, which is developing the SEZ, will lease the 74 acre land to the consortium for 66 years. After getting the required regulatory approval, construction will commence by early next year. The state-of-the-art health city would be equipped with 10 super-specialty hospitals and has its eyes set on overseas patients. In its first phase, it will have 750 beds and will be operational in the next three years. Whilst Care Hospitals will be handling the operations, John Hopkins is the knowledge partner and will hold equity in the association. Indu Projects will be funding the majority of the investment and is expected to hold a major stake, albeit the details of the holding structure are being worked out. Reportedly, healthcare majors like Manipal Health, Artemis Hospital, Singapore-based Parkway Hospitals and Reliance ADAG were in the pipeline for the mega-project. Fortis Healthcare was in the league as well to make the final bid. However, the hospital major backed out over differences about the operational structure of the project. Talks are still on with a Thailand-based group to set up a health and wellness village in the health city.

_GrapeWine_ October 7th, 2008, 05:02 PM Maharashtra-Sukhoi talks over Nagpur aircraft plant soon
:cheers::cheers:
October 6th, 2008 - 9:34 pm ICT by IANS -
Nagpur, Oct 6 (IANS) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will hold preliminary talks next week with representatives of Russian aircraft maker Sukhoi regarding a proposal to set up a super-jet manufacturing plant here. The meeting, to be attended also by officials of Mukhtar-Al Bukhari’s Malaysia-based SKS Ventures and their Indian partner Vavasi Group, is slated for Oct 13 in Delhi, Deshmukh told reporters here Monday.
Mukhtar-Al Bukhari’s company has come up with a twin proposal to set up a Special Economic Zone for production of renewable energy equipment components and develop a new airport in Nagpur.
The two companies have shown interest in creating these facilities through their MIHAN (Multi-modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur) project being executed by Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) of which Deshmukh is the ex-officio chairman.
Fresh from a ’successful’ business tour of Europe, Deshmukh also told reporters that he would persuade the Tatas to set up their Nano car project in Maharashtra now that they have resolved to move out of West Bengal’s Singur.
“Apart from ensuring them hassle-free operations and all necessary infra-structural facilities, the state will also offer Tatas a slew of incentives if they choose to set up their plant in some backward area of the state”, Deshmukh said.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence about removing ‘a few residual hurdles’ in the progress of Nagpur’s MIHAN project concerning acquiring of land for an additional runway in the city’s airport saying a more acceptable package of compensation and rehabilitation of those affected by land acquisition is being worked out.

MUMBAI: Nagpur, known as India’s Orange City and Zero Mile City, is back in the reckoning. A study conducted by a private research agency has rated Nagpur among the fastest growing investment destinations of India.
According to a study done by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India, developments in the recent years bear a testimony to the advent of Nagpur on India’s investment horizon. Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) is developing a multi-modal international airport and a multi-product SEZ over 4,025 hectares.
The MIHAN project and SEZ, which estimates an investment of $11,625 million, is tipped to be a major driver of economic growth not only for Nagpur, but also for the entire Vidarbha region, said MADC vice-chairman and MD RC Sinha.
Deccan Cargo & MADC have signed an MoU to develop a cargo hub, while Air India and Gati have joined hands to develop a dedicated freighter service with Nagpur as hub.
Gurgaon-based Radisson Group has started work over a five-star hotel in Nagpur. The other investments include that of the Taj Group, Hyatt, Leela, Kamat Group and Fariyas Group. Moreover, work on Sahara City Homes, is also in progress.
According to property consultants Jones Lang LaSalle, Nagpur is among top IT/ITES commercial destinations among the Tier III cities. IT majors like TCS, Wipro, Satyam, HCL and Hexaware Tech have purchased around 500 acres for their proposed projects.
On the investment front, four major sectors are expected to fetch an investment of around $16,135 million over the next decade or so. The tourism sector has pegged an inflow of $120 million.
In this context, The Economic Times and Vidarbha Economic Development Council have planned a two-day international summit on Investment Opportunities in Nagpur on November 26-27 at Nagpur. Deloitte is the knowledge partner for the summit titled “Nagpur-the Growth Nucleus of India”. The summit will focus on investment opportunities in the sectors of urban infrastructure, SEZ and MIHAN, multi-modal logistics, and tourism infrastructure.

Notch one up for Nagpur . The Big Orange has already beaten Mumbai in the race for a bigger share of the resource pie offered by the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
And now, the state's winter capital could be set for a repeat--this time in the race for a state-of-the-art sky-bus system.
Nagpur is the first city in the country to get financial assistance under the JNNURM. Getting Rs 5894 crore offers a rare opportunity and our priority is to create state-of-the-art infrastructure for Nagpur 's development. We (Government) aim to provide a sky-bus network (which will come up on a build-operate-transfer basis), replace the existing Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation-run system with one run by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, provide 24/7 water and, above all, ensure Nagpur is among the best Indian cities.

mobarch February 16th, 2009, 01:51 PM Rs 1.4 crore eco-facelift for Raj Bhavan
Vijay Pinjarkar, TNN
NAGPUR: The majestic Raj Bhavan at Nagpur is for most part a mystery wrapped in an enigma for Nagpurians. In a couple of years, it could wear a very
different look and also be a lot more welcoming. Social Forestry Division (SFD) of state Forest Department has drawn up plans to turn the over 140-year-old “Governor Kothi”, lording over 49 hectares of greenery on a hillock, into a floral biopark (vanaspati udyan) showcasing the unique biodiversity of the Gondwana landscape. It will make one recall the resplendent Moghul’s garden at Rashtrapati or Raj Bhavan of Bhopal.
Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the state governor on Residency Road, will get an ecological facelift. SFD will implement a Rs 1.40 crore plantation and landscaping project for enhancing its aesthetic beauty and conservation value. Once beautified, it will be one of the jewels of orange city.
The Raj Bhavan, built 142 years ago as a landmark site in Central India, was originally the home of the British resident in this region. It is part of the Seminary Hills range, the green lung of Nagpur.
The mega project is a fallout of serious concern expressed by governor S C Jamir over poor birdlife, spread of invasive species of trees, and degraded ecology inside the historic premises. There have been reports of intruders and encroachers too. To address the problem, a meeting was held on July 18, 2008, under the chairmanship of secretary to the governor, Shrikant Deshpande, in Nagpur. It was attended by top officials including the divisional commissioner.
It proposed removal of subabul and other invasive species and filling up the gaps by suitable native species having conservation, aesthetic, environment amelioration and ethno-medical value. SFD was assigned the task to carry out the project. SFD carried out a survey on October 15, 2008 and submitted a proposal submitted to governor’s office on January 20, 2009.
Speaking to TOI, Jarnail Singh, joint director, social forestry circle, Nagpur, said, “We have divided the area into five zones. Each zone is proposed to have management treatment and plant options matching with site conditions. We will undertake cleaning of invasive species. Around 6,800 small and big subabul trees will be removed. These trees were planted by our department in 1995.”
Of the 49 hectares, 19 hectares houses Raj Bhavan, associated structures, lawns, gardens, municipal facilities and area allotted to educational and charitable institutions. Open tract extending to 10 hectares along north-eastern side has been invaded by grasses, weeds and shrubs while 20 hectares has vegetation, mostly subabul and other tree species.
OrangeCity_ February 18th, 2009, 04:48 PM NEW DELHI: Under an ambitious programme of the ministry of new and renewable energy, Nagpur in Maharashtra will be developed as the country's first solar city, it was announced Wednesday.
The orange city Nagpur will become a model solar city by 2012, deriving up to 10 percent of its energy consumption through renewable energy sources and implementing other energy efficiency measures, a government statement said.
The government plans to develop 60 such cities during the 11th Five-Year Plan (2007-12) to meet the increasing electricity demand of cities and promote increased use of renewable energy.
The ministry will bear half of the estimated project cost of Rs.190 million (Rs.19 crore), with the state government or municipal corporation pitching in the rest.
The city can also opt for additional funding from the ministry if the project cost goes beyond the estimates.
Solar energy systems, including street lights, garden lights, traffic lights, hoardings and solar water heaters will be installed in the city. Energy efficient 'green buildings' will also be promoted in large scale.

NAGPUR: Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Darda has proposed to erect a 225-ft high flag mast to unfurl the national tri-colour in the city.
The gigantic Indian flag mast, the highest in the country, will generate the feeling of patriotism among the citizens, Darda told reporters here yesterday.
He also asked the district administration to provide a suitable land for it. Expressing his readiness to bear all the expenses in this regard, Darda said a theme park would be developed around the flag mast and the tri colour would be all weather proof.
At a recent meeting with district Gaurdian Minister Balasaheb Thorat, the issue was raised in front of local government officials, he said.
“He also favoured creating a slogan and a tune for Nagpur. Every city has a slogan to identity ifself like Mumbai’s ‘the city that never sleeps’,” Darda said adding efforts are also being made to rope in noted music composers for the purpose.

NAGPUR: The construction work of the much awaited railway under bridge (RuB) near Anand Talkies is all set to commence soon. Nagpur Municipal
Corporation (NMC) standing committee approved Rs 19.24 crore proposal tabled by Chafekar & Company for the construction of this RuB in a meeting convened on Monday.
The construction of this RuB has already been approved under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), standing panel chairman Pravin Bhisikar informed while briefing the media on Monday.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation will construct the push-box bridge stretching between Anand Talkies and Vijay Talkies costing Rs 19.24 crore. Central government recently released the first installment of Rs 2.28 crore from its share of 50% fund amount. State government will make 20% contribution while NMC will contribute 30 % towards the project cost.
Though the RuB job has been sanctioned, the civic body is yet to acquire the required 2,800 sq mt of land belonging to the government printing press
and the other stretch owned by the Government Technical School, Bhisikar informed. However, with the industries department agreeing to give us the land in lieu of the new premises and newly constructed buildings at other locations, the problem has been eased out to a great extent, he added. The 12-metre wide road stretching between Anand Talkies and Vijay Talkies will now be widened to 24 metres, Bhisikar said.

amco_in May 25th, 2009, 11:11 AM :banana::banana:Green signal for Nagpur-Mumbai high speed train
Vossing, German consultant has given its nod in its pre-feasibility report for the Maharashtra Government's for its high-speed train project between Nagpur-Mumbai.
The project envisages trains running at a speed of 300 km per hour in the 850 km corridor between Mumbai and Nagpur and covering the distance in about three and half hours. Presently, trains take over 14 hours to cover the distance.
Post launch of the train service, the commuters will be able to reach Pune from Mumbai in an hour and Nagpur in three hours. While Vossing has found the long-distance routes viable, it has reportedly said that shorter routes linking proposed greenfield airport near Panvel to Khopoli (30 km), Alibagh (60 km) and Santacruz airport (45 km) and also route between Santacruz airport and Nariman Point (18 km), Goregaon (15 km) and Kalyan (50 km) were not viable. As per the report, these are very short distances and it will not be viable for high-speed trains to operate between them.
The superfast train corridors will be in addition to the expressways being planned to connect various regions. A scheme for widening the expressways connecting Mumbai to Pune and Nashik is already underway. The MSRDC is also planning a superhighway to connect Mumbai and Nagpur.

_GrapeWine_ June 15th, 2009, 11:05 AM Sun-n-Sand to foray into Nagpur by September 2009
Friday, June 12, 2009, 09:00 Hrs [IST]
By Dheera Majumder | Mumbai
Sun n Sand Hotels, the Mumbai-based hotel development and management company is set to launch its first hotel in Nagpur, by September 2009. The company, which presently owns and operates hotels under its indigenous brand name in Mumbai, Pune and Shirdi is positioning its new property as the first five-star hotel in Nagpur. It currently manages 400 rooms in its portfolio and will add 133 rooms with the Nagpur property. The company has invested around Rs 80 Crore in the latest development.
Speaking with Hospitality Biz, Gulshan Arora, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Sun-n-Sand Hotels, states, “There is a huge emerging market in Nagpur with a great need for good quality five-star accommodation, which we aim to provide. Our property is very close to the Multimodal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) SEZ project as well as the Boeing Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility. This will act as a huge source market with the inflow of international business clientele to the hotel.”
The company considers its prime feeder markets to be Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad as well as emerging towns like Indore and Raipur. It aims to tap the domestic customer. The company has the provision to increase its inventory with 150 additional rooms. It aims to expand the same after observing potential in the market.
The hotel houses three F&B outlets including a 24 hour coffee shop and Kabab Hut, the signature restaurant serving Awadhi cuisine and a bar. The property aims to cater to the wedding, meetings and convention market with its 7000 sq ft banquet hall, four meeting rooms and an outdoor area for catering to meetings, conferences, social gatherings and weddings in the city. The group has tied up with Sohum Spa to manage its in-house spa facility.
Currently, Nagpur has an inventory of 207 rooms in the premium hotels segment. Sun-n-Sand property will add around 340 rooms. While Ameet Wagh, Corporate Head - Sales & Marketing, Sun-n-Sand Hotels perceives competition in the market and expects the property’s location to work in the hotel's favour. “There is already fair demand for premium hotel accommodation, with occupancies in five-star hotels fluctuating around 65-70 per cent. Banqueting is a key contributor to hotel revenues in Nagpur, which boasts many high profile weddings. Within the next two years, the demand for premium hotel rooms and banquets is expected to multiply.” The company will undergo several F&B promotional facilities to ensure visibility in the market. The hotel will offer room rates of Rs 5500- 6000 per night and aims to observe around 60 per cent occupancy in the first year.

chetan.thoke July 5th, 2009, 04:42 PM HI AMIT!IS THIS A MAGLAVE TRAIN AS THERE WERE SPECULATIONS
_GrapeWine_ July 10th, 2009, 07:30 AM Belatedly, didi gifts a train to Nagpur
NAGPUR: Railway minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday gave a city a belated gift of a non-stop train
to Delhi and also promised to develop Ajni as
a model station. She made the announcement while replying to a debate on railway budget in Lok Sabha. Mamata said two more non-stop 'Duranto' (fast) trains -- Delhi-Secundrabad and Delhi-Nagpur would be introduced in addition to 12 already announced. "Two of these trains would start within a month," she said but did not identify them.
With the non-stop train, passengers from Nagpur can now expect to reach Delhi in 12 hours. At present, the fastest train between Nizamuddin-Nagpur is Rajdhani that covers the 1083-km distance in 14 hours with two commercial stoppages at Jhansi and Bhopal.
"It was a long-pending demand of businessmen and people for a new train to Delhi after the Gondwana Express was hijacked to Bhusawal and Bilaspur. There are at least six trains passing through Nagpur to Delhi daily. Yet, the waiting list of passengers continues to swell to over 250-300 almost all round the year. The non-stop train will ease congestion on the route," said a delighted Basant Shukla, general secretary of Bharatiya Yatri Kendra (BYK). The BYK had submitted this demand along with other proposals to Mamata through Nagpur MP Vilas Muttemwar.
Talking to TOI from Delhi, Muttemwar said, "I was upset when no new train was announced for Nagpur in the budget. I pursued it with the minister and finally my efforts bore fruit. I was in the House during the discussion. Apart from Delhi train, she also assured to consider my demand for a similar train to Mumbai. However, many could not hear the announcement amid noise."
For Mumbai, Gitanjali is the only fast train that covers the 837-km distance in 12 hours. If Muttemwar is to be believed, then people can reach Mumbai in less than 10 hours. The Nagpur MP further said that Mamata had also promised to expedite work to develop Ajni as model (adarsh) station, gauge conversion of Nagpur-Nagbhid and Narkhed-Amravati rail link. Nagpur has already been included in stations to be developed as world-class, he said.

_GrapeWine_ July 14th, 2009, 08:42 AM KSL's website also mentions about this Empress Hotel:

amco_in July 18th, 2009, 06:20 AM NIT to allow user change of plots
Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) has decided to allow user change of plots if the plot owner is ready to pay the charges. The proposal will be sent to state government for approval. The decision was taken in board meeting held on Friday.
NIT chairman Dr Sanjay Mukherjee said that many persons had started using residential plots for commercial use. Till now change of use from residential to commercial was not allowed but in view of large scale conversions NIT had decided to take a practical view.
NIT would constitute a fixation committee to determine the additional premium and ground rent to be paid by the plot owner. These amounts would be calculated on the basis of prevalent market rate as mentioned in the ready reckoner.
If a plot owner whose user is residential as per city development plan of 2001 wants to convert it into commercial then he would have to pay additional premium for the extra floor to space to index (FSI) he would get. He would also have to pay enhanced ground rent as applicable to commercial properties.
Say, if you have a residential plot of 1,000 square feet. As FSI for residential plots is 1 you can construct maximum 1,000 sq feet on the plot. However, if its user is changed to commercial the FSI will increase to 2.5, which means that you can construct 2,500 square feet. As per NIT policy you will have to pay NIT a premium for the additional 1,500 sq feet at market rate.
In case the plot is meant for industrial use and the owner wanted to convert it into commercial then NIT would charge 20% additional premium at market rate, Mukherjee said.
The chairman said that NIT had conducted a survey and identified 15 places for pay and park zones. There are some places where the parking space is big and NIT was thinking of constructing parking plazas there. NIT would ask private persons whose land is reserved for parking to hand over the land for such zones and get that much quantum of transfer of development rights (TDR).
The other important decisions taken by NIT board
Rs 54.04 crore water supply scheme for Gunthewari layouts under JNNURM given green signal
Sports club to be constructed on PPP basis near Chikhli Temple
Dayanand Park, Jaripatka, to be developed on PPP basis
180 plots for poor persons in Chikhli to be allotted by lottery
Gokulpeth market belongs to NIT'
NAGPUR: The NIT has realised after 68 years that Gokulpeth market, which is being operated by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), belongs to it. NIT chairman Sanjay Mukherjee said that while going through old records NIT officials discovered this fact.
Mukherjee said that while NMC did not have any record of its ownership superintendent of land records had issued an order making NIT as the owner instead of NMC. The board members on Friday decided to take back the land from NMC.

amco_in July 18th, 2009, 10:39 AM Vidarbha to get three mega projects
The Maharashtra Government has reportedly signed three MoUs worth Rs 6,372 crore on 17 July 2009.
The investment deals were singed with Adhunik Corporation, Reliance Cementation and Deegee Cotsyn. All these three projects are likely to be coming up in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.
Adhunik Corporation is planning to set up an integrated cement and steel manufacturing plant in the Chandrapur district at an investment of Rs 4,000 crore. The newly planned plant will produce four million tpa of cement and 1.1 million tpa of steel. The plant will be powered with a 125 MW captive power plant.
Reliance Cementation, an Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group company, intends to set up two cement plants in Yavatmal district and at Butibori near Nagpur an estimated cost of Rs 2,250 crore. The five million tpa Yavatmal facility will have a 3.3 million tpa clinker facility along with a 50 MW captive power station. At Butibori, the company will establish a plant producing two million tpa of cement.
Vidarbha based Deegee Cotsyn, a Narendra Group company, is proposed to set up a composite ginning, pressing, spinning, and weaving unit at Rs 122.57 crore at Badnera in Amravati district. The unit is likely to have a capacity to produce 31,200 spindles per annum for making compact yarn along with 3 MW captive power plant.

_GrapeWine_ July 20th, 2009, 08:56 AM Four decades later, night 'airmail' service returns to Nagpur
NAGPUR: Your birthday gifts, personal letters or business parcels could soon be reaching their destinations
across India faster than ever before.
India Post, the earlier Department of Post, has decided to resurrect the night airmail' service with Dr Babasheb Ambedkar International Airport at Nagpur as its hub. This bid to improve services amid stiff competition from private courier companies is slated to take off by July-end.
Nagpur arrived on the aviation map
exactly 60 years ago, in 1949. The city was playing host to the night airmail service just one year later, in 1950, with mail being exchanged here for further distribution.
"In the legendary night airmail service, small planes the 28-seater Dakota carrying loads of postal mail and parcels from all four compass points of the country converged here. From Nagpur, the mail was distributed to nearby centres by rail and road, cutting down on delivery time drastically. The system was so good that people in Nagpur used to get letters from any part of the country in one day," say sources at the airport.
This service was closed down some time in the 70s. Now, six decades down the line, the hub-and-spoke' model is said to have inspired India Post to start such a service once again.
A senior India Post official told TOI, "India Post has acquired two freighter aircraft from Air India for faster delivery of mail. These two aircraft, bearing the India Post logo rather than the Air India emblem, will take off from Mumbai and Chennai to converge at Nagpur airport every evening."
"Soon, a third aircraft that is already in service flying everything from handicrafts to foodgrain on the Kolkata-Guwahati route will come to Nagpur via Delhi, thus connecting the north and east part of the country to the city. The aircraft will then fly back to New Delhi, Guwahati and Kolkata
after exchanging the postal cargo (pallettes)."
"Every night before the freighters leave Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata centres at around 11:30pm, all mail from nearby cities will reach them," said the official.
The first Boeing is slated to take off from Chennai, go to Bangalore and come to Nagpur. The second one will start from Mumbai and come to Nagpur directly. The third one will start from Kolkata go to Guwahati and Delhi before reaching Nagpur. Soon these aircraft will connect cities like Ahmedabad and Surat also to Nagpur, said an Air India official.

_GrapeWine_ August 10th, 2009, 01:11 PM Indiabulls to build industrial park near Katol
NAGPUR: Two days after Nagpur airport was finally transferred to Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), which is developing Mihan, Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd (IREL) has announced that it would set up a 250 acre industrial park near Katol, 40 km from here.
IREL expects that the whole park would entail an investment of Rs 5,000 crore and is expected to provide employment to around 25,000 persons. IREL senior manager Pramod Rathod said that with a megaproject like Mihan coming up near Nagpur and power projects having total capacity of 7,000 to 8,000 MW coming up in Vidarbha in the three to five years, there is a huge scope for small and medium scale industries.
"Mihan and other power projects will require several ancillary industries. There is very little land available in Butibori industrial estate and rates are unaffordable for most industries. The waiting list for land at Butibori has crossed 500. MIDC is planning to acquire more land but according to our estimate it will take at least a year and a half. Hence, industrialists will have to set up their shop in some other locality and Katol is the ideal location. It is well-connected by road and rail. MLA Anil Deshmukh is doing his best for the project," he said.
Rathod said that at present the rates in Butibori MIDC is Rs 400 per square metre whereas IREL is planning to sell land at Katol for only Rs 75 per square metre and provide better facilities.
He said that Maharashtra Industries Development Corporation (MIDC) had already provided land to the Sepset Constructions, the Indiabulls company that would execute the project. MIDC is making arrangements for water. IREL had applied to MIDC to get approval for its industrial park.
Vice-president Abhimanyu Rathod said that IREL with help of concerned government agencies would make the following facilities available at the park - roads with capacity of bear industrial tonnage, power substation, water supply network, telecommunication facilities, street lighting, storm water drains and common effluent treatment park.
IREL would also construct a commercial facility centre (CFC) that would house banks, post office, insurance offices, hotels, restaurants, canteens, club house, transport offices, courier company offices, hardware and electric shops. A petrol pump would also be set up near the CFC.
IREL also proposed to build houses if there was a demand and some area had been reserved for it, Abhimanyu Rathod said.
He further said that industrialists could opt for open plots if they wanted to construct their factory as per their requirement. The company would also construct sheds and factories spread over a standard area of 10,000 square feet. Smaller factories spread over an area between 600 and 2,500 sq feet would also be constructed.

_GrapeWine_ September 14th, 2009, 08:30 AM Britain eyes Nagpur, India’s new aerospace hub
LONDON - Britain’s Trade, Investment and Business Minister Lord Mervyn Davies is to visit India for four days beginning Monday for talks to expand growing ties in defence technology and other cutting-edge sectors.
High on his agenda is the city of Nagpur, which is being developed as India’s new aerospace hub and, according to the UK-India Business Council, needs new infrastructure and engineering capability.
The UKIBC hopes that by engaging now with Nagpur, British businesses will be able to grow with the city and able to beat off the competition.
Davies, who will also travel to Delhi and Mumbai, told IANS in London recently that Britain was keen to develop high-tech defence and aerospace ties with India.
His visit is likely to lead to a ‘mix and match’ between Indian and British defence and security companies with a follow-up visit from the Indians later this year.
The entire effort could give defence cooperation between the two countries its biggest push in more than 60 years, with jobs created in both countries.
India is on the move and we must move with it, said Davies Sunday.
Innovative Indian and UK firms are now working together at the top end of the industrial spectrum - on pharmaceuticals, electronics and advanced manufacturing. India’s talent, confidence, energy and entrepreneurial spirit is for the world to see and experience,” he said.
The UK and India stand shoulder to shoulder in a new millennium. In forums such as G20, we are promoting global trade and economic liberalisation, which is vital to bring prosperity and jobs to millions in both our countries and around the world,” he added.
Davies will visit Nagpur to support a delegation of British businesses led by the UKIBC. The delegation will have companies from urban infrastructure, town planning, mining, energy, legal, financial, construction, water, power, education, and brand marketing sectors.
Britain’s bilateral trade with India is worth over 12 billion pounds and Indian investments last year created some 4,000 jobs in Britain - second only to US investments.

On the eve of his visit, Davies said "UK and India stand shoulder-to-shoulder in this new millennium and will explore all avenues to have greater tie-ups in defence technology and aero-space."

_GrapeWine_ September 17th, 2009, 09:25 AM UK investors look foropportunities in city
NAGPUR: A business delegation from UK arrived in the city on Tuesday to explore business opportunities taking forward the process of foreign investors now looking beyond bigger cities. Headed by the British trade minister Lord Mervyn Davies, this is said to be the first high powered foreign delegation to visit the city.
The minister, in a press release, has called Nagpur as one of the engine rooms for India's growth. "UK firms should look beyond the obvious destinations like New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore and explore the potential of emerging cities such as Nagpur," he noted. Nagpur has been chosen as an emerging destination after a detailed study conducted on similar towns of India. The study was conducted by UK India Business Council (UKIC).
While the minister would be visiting the city on Wednesday, the delegation arrived a day before. The delegates led by the deputy high commissioner Vicki Treadell held a meeting with officials of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) and also paid a visit to the Mihan site, off Wardha Road. The delegates were addressed by MADC's vice-chairman-cum-managing director R C Sinha.
President of Vidarbha Industries Association (VIA) Pravin Tapadia said the local industrialists indeed look forward for exploring newer vistas during this visit. It is first time that a trade minister is interacting with local industrialists. Apart from the logistics business in Mihan, there are abundant investment opportunities in the power sector. Also, proposals in manufacturing sector can be looked into, he said.
Meanwhile, Treadell has observed, "UK is always seeking to expand its business relations in India. Nagpur is poised to become a major commercial centre and we would like to partner Nagpur in its growth story. British companies are already active in Nagpur and I hope that the UKIBC delegation that the minister is supporting will be able to generate further business partnerships."
As far as existing UK-Nagpur links are concerned, a British firm Scott Wilson has done the master planning for Mihan SEZ and has now been awarded contact for designing the runway and terminal building. Mott Macdonald are the consultant for power transmission in Mihan. While PWS, a Northern Ireland-based company has a manufacturing facility in Nagpur for making road signs, said a press release issued by the British high commission.

_GrapeWine_ September 26th, 2009, 10:20 AM Umpires academy adds another feather to VCA's cap
Sep. 25th, 2009
by Sports Reporter
CONTINUING its rapid progress as an important cricket centre of the country the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) has bagged the BCCI umpires academy, to be set up at the Civil Lines stadium soon.
Already a well-known venue in the world, Nagpur took a giant stride on the cricketing map with a magnificent international stadium at Jamtha last year. The stadium has already become a regular for international as well as domestic games. By getting the umpires academy now, an important wing of the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI), the city has established itself as central India's prominent cricket centre. This could very well be termed as another gift to the city from BCCI chief Adv Shashank Manohar. VCA was in the know of the proposed plan to set up the academy since last few months. In fact, Dr M N Dorairajan, Secretary, VCA, who is also a member of the umpires sub-committee, had been asked to prepare a blueprint for the academy. The blueprint was presented to the umpires sub-committee in a meeting held on September 19 at Mumbai. It was finalised and ratified by the BCCI annual general meeting on Thursday. According to Dr Dorairajan the requirements for the academy include 16 well-furnished rooms, a swimming pool, gymnasium, projector room, library and other things. Since the Civil Lines stadium fulfills all the standards the prestigious academy was allotted to Nagpur.
The rooms will come up on the first floor above Billimoria Pavilion, Dr Dorairajan said. We aim to produce umpires who would make India proud by getting entry into ICC's Elite group of umpires, he added. The academy will also serve the purpose to train scorers and statisticians, it has been learnt. VCA already boasts of India's first residential cricket academy. It has evoked praise from greats like Sachin Tendulkar. The facilities can very well be utilised for the Umpires Academy as well, felt VCA authorities. Vidarbha administrators too got a pre-Dussehra gift by getting nominated on various panels. Former India player Prashant Vaidya, who looks after the residential academy, has been nominated on BCCI's technical committee from the central zone.
