150 residential units, Iranian gardens, and a water park will be constructed in Kish Island by the end of winter 2007.
Tehran, 23 February 2006 (CHN) -- Espinas hotels group is going to construct a resort area including 150 residential villas, an Iranian garden, and a water park in Kish Island by April 2007.
By spending more than 3 million US dollars, this hotels group is determined to construct a residential-entertainment resort center in a 130,000 square meter area in Kish Island which will include an aqua park, a garden, and 150 residential suites.
“There will be water streams all around these villas, and a 5-star hotel will be built in the middle of them,” said Asghar Amiri, executive director of Espinas hotels group.
This five star hotel will be built in 12 floors and 180 rooms. Amiri expressed hope that with construction of this resort center, some 1000 beds will be added to the residential capacity of Kish Island. According to Amiri, Austrian architects have promised to help Espinas hotels group for the design of this project. With construction of a water park and providing sports facilities, Iran is trying to convince the foreign and domestic tourists to spend more time in this resort center which will help developing the tourism of Kish Island.
Amiri has also expressed hope that implementation of this project would change the tourism destination from Dubai to Kish Island for a large number of tourists. The pre-contract of building this water park has been signed between Iran and an Austrian company, and the construction of it will start in the near future.
A restaurant and a dock for berthing of cruise boats and ships will be constructed at a 300-meter distance from the seashore. This complex includes four restaurants, and sport facilities such as a golf course and hiking and bicycle trails.
“We are determined to change this resort complex to an appropriate place for families to have fun in; therefore, eight of the villas will have private open pools for the use of families,” explained Amiri.
Kish is an Iranian island in the Persian Gulf, and is considered part of the Hormozgan province. Due to its status as a free trade zone, it is well regarded as a “consumer’s paradise”, and features numerous shopping centers, tourist attraction places, and resort hotels. Kish Island has an estimated population of about 150,000 residents; and about 1.5 million people visit the island annually.
Kish Island is one of the most beautiful coral islands in the world. It enjoys very clear and crystalline water. In addition to its natural and entertainment tourism attractions, Kish Island has some historical sites as well such as the 2000-year-old aqueduct which with its beautiful coral walls and ceiling has changed into one of the tourism attraction sites of the island. Moreover, the remains of Harireh historical city which goes back to more than 1000 years ago can still be seen in Kish Island.

Gilgamesh March 6th, 2006, 07:21 PM Large Gas Field Discovered in Kish Island of Persian Gulf
Feb 15, 2006
A large natural gas field has been discovered on the Persian Gulf island of Kish which could have similar output to two phases of the giant South Pars, Minister of Petroleum Kazem Vaziri-Hamaneh has said.
"The discovery was confirmed about Jan. 19. When production starts in this field, it will produce something like two phases of South Pars. We are planning to develop it," newspapers quoted the minister as saying.
Iran expects output of 25 million cubic meters of gas per day from each phase of the giant South Pars Gas Field, part of the world's largest reservoir of natural gas.
Despite holding the world's second largest reserves of natural gas after Russia, Iran has been slow to develop its reserves for export.
Foreign companies such as Statoil and Total have been involved in developing Persian Gulf gas fields. However, Statoil last month had to write down its Iran investment because of delays and increased costs.

Gilgamesh April 27th, 2006, 09:39 AM Shahnameh Heroes be Depicted on Walls of Kish Aqueduct
Background info:
In 1999, a group of hard-working Iranian individuals and experts decided to build an underground complex. After deep excavation they discovered a rigid coral ceiling. The construction included 300 artists and excavation workers.
The city includes restaurants, tourist resorts, and stalls. Also, there are plans that after it is finished, that they create mud pools and therapeutic locations for people to be treated since during excavation, it was discovered that the excavators did not get any scratches whatsoever. It was then concluded that it was because of the therapeutic marl in the coral layer.
http://www.iranian.ws/iran_news/uploads/kish_island_underground.jpg
Kish 2500-year-old aqueduct which once supplied drinking water of the inhabitants of the Island will turn into a marvelous underground city with three kilometer area within two years. In addition, the symbolic tales of the epic masterpiece "Shahnameh" composed by Ferdowsi, the great Persian poet, will be carved on the walls of this underground city.
Designers of this underground city are trying to not only maintain the historical context of this aqueduct but also to make new usage of this underground city as a tourist attraction site and to perform the reconstruction project of Kish aqueduct.
Some pavilions allocated for Iranian and the other countries' handicrafts to be displayed, traditional and modern restaurants, an amphitheater hall, a museum, a conference hall, and artistic galleries will be established on the external surface of this underground city in a 63,000 square meter area. A large park with two hills which will be made from the removed underground soils will also be built in this area. Moreover, some streets will be constructed in the vicinity of this underground city where some Iranian traditional shows with folk dresses will be performed.
Aqueduct city is descended to a depth of 16 meters from the ground level. The height of its ceiling is eight meters, most of which is covered by fossils, seashells, and corals which, according to the experts who identified and categorized them, date back to some 570-270 million years ago.
In a hot summer day in 1998, Mansour Haji Hosseini, an Iranian engineer who lives in Germany, descended to one of the aqueducts of Kish Island with a rope, and while the weather outside was 40 degrees Celsius (104 F), he enjoyed the pleasant weather of the aqueduct with its beautiful seashells and corals. That was when he decided to invest in this project and change it into an underground city.
The legendry tales of Shahnameh will be carved on the walls of the aqueduct; and now after finishing the first phase, Hosseini has invited the artists to perform their artistic works on the walls of this aqueduct and to sign their names on their works to remain there for the next generations who will visit this place in the future.
"Shahnameh Tunnel" is the most important part of the natural, historical, cultural, and entertainment project of Kish aqueduct underground city which will be finished by 2008. Sailing on small boats in the aqueduct, tourists may get familiar with the stories of Shahnameh especially through observing images of the symbolic heroes of Persian epic poetry which will be presented on the walls of this underground city along with some brief explanations.
Hosseini believes that the existence of this underground city in the heart of a coral island will provide the possibility to see corals and seashells which exist in the depth of the ocean, which makes Kish Island unique in the world. This underground city is the only construction with a ceiling covered by natural seashells and corals.
With the completion of this project, those interested in nature will have the opportunity to see different kinds of shells and corals without any need to go skin diving.

It has an estimated population of about 150,000 people, while approximately 1.5 million people visit this island annually.
Based on the existing evidence, the history of Kish Island goes back to some 3000 years ago. According to the writings of Nearchus, the Greek admiral who was assigned to the task of exploring the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman by Alexander in 325 BC, he visited Kish Island in the 4th century BC. Nearchus' writings indicate that there were a lot of palm trees and gardens in Kish Island at that time. Numerous merchants and businessmen traveled to the island during Achaemenid era and Kish was considered as a main center for dredging pearls for Mesopotamia and India.

Prior to this, it was believed that Harireh was merely dependant on trade relations with other countries through waterways. However, with this new discovery, archeologists concluded that the city must have been a center for mass productions of glassworks which were exported to other countries as well during the ancient times. One of the city’s major passageways as well as a water reservoir were also discovered during the recent excavations in Harireh.
“We started our excavations in two different parts of the Harireh historical city which resulted in discovery of a number of glassblowing workshops and a major passageway. Discovery of a large amount of glass near these workshops indicates the mass production of glass articles in this area,” said Simin Lakpour, head of archeology team in Harireh.
Lakpour also believes that the different discovered glass articles in the area such as glass bracelets, glass dishes, perfume holder, and other glass instruments shows the variety of productions in these workshops.
“During the previous season of archeological excavations in this city, the mosque of Harireh was discovered by archeologists. In the past, mosques used to be considered the hearts of the cities where most of the gatherings were held by the locals during which major decisions were made. Therefore, the centers for economic activities were mostly situated somewhere near the mosques, which is why we decided to concentrate our excavations in this area which led to the discovery of some important economic structures. Prior to this, it was supposed that Harireh city acted merely as a trade broker between the neighboring countries and its economy was dependant on trade interactions. However, discovery of glassblowing workshops in the area show that this city was also a mass productive center for glass articles which were exported to other countries as well,” said Zarin Taj Sheibani, archeologist.
Sheibani also explained that some urgent excavation teams were dispatched to this area to carry out excavations in order to protect the city of Harireh from the construction activities of the developing projects of Free Land Zones which has led to destruction of 30 hectares of the city so far. “Lauders have leveled the surface layers of the city. Therefore, we started some emergency excavations in four parts of the city which resulted in discovery of some valuable relics and convinced them to stop their development activities in this area,” added Sheibani.
According to Sheibani, this is the first systematic and scientific archeological study in this city. “The main goal of these excavations in this area is to find out how the city came into existence and to find its urbanization infrastructures. Archeologists also are trying to find the different means through which the city was connected to the other parts of the world, and how its inhabitants provided their water supplies, etc.,” said Sheibani.
Archeologists are also determine to discover the defense system of Harireh city, and to find out how much of it was formed naturally due to the natural features of the area and how much was created by the people who lived in the area at that time to protect themselves from the possible dangers.
Harireh city located in Kish Island in Hormozgan province was established during the Ilkhanid period (1256-1349 AD). Harireh is the only Ilkhanid city with a settlement context and has urban characteristics. The traces of Ale Bouye, Seljuk, and Ilkhanid periods exist in the region. Existence of some articles and the coins of different countries indicate that Harireh acted as a trace broker between China and North African countries. Discovery of clays, golden ornamentations, and unique stucco decorations show the developed economy of the city some 700 years ago. It is believed that the city might have been abandoned due to an earthquake which hit the area in the past.

shugs June 7th, 2006, 04:20 PM ^^ True... I cant see much good happening to Kish under the IRI as their Islamic laws put off both Iranian and foreign tourists. When I went I saw mostly Iranians and a few German families. I guess Iranians mostly go to Dubai as they can escape these wonderfull Islamic laws like hijab etc.
I know the laws in Kish are more relaxed than mainland Iran i.e. men can wear shorts, women can be looser with hijab, women can dance as long as they are sitting on their chairs (wtf?!).. but its still not enough, especially as every now and again they tighten up laws according to political climate. I dont think it would be that disasterous if they exclude Kish from Islamic laws. It would be good for the economy and they can test how they can slowly unpack the laws all across the nation on Kish.
persian June 8th, 2006, 01:55 PM They know how much good it is for Iran's economics if they remove the law about Hejab but they still insist on it.

Iran looks to Muslim tourists to revive resorts
Conservative Islamic republic is trying to attract Muslims to breathe life into its Kish island.
By Hiedeh Farmani - KISH, Iran
The two young girls sped past on their hired bicycles, clearly enjoying a pastime that is banned for them throughout the rest of Iran.
And out on the clear waters of the southern Gulf, a young married couple skimmed the placid blue surface on a jetski, she fully dressed but her arms around the man clad in swim trunks, T-shirt and lifejacket.
And while alcohol is barred on Kish island like everywhere else in Iran, a more relaxed ambiance seems to pervade this island resort where for a couple, jetski-ing well off-shore, it may seem worth the risk of breaking the rules.
The flexibility, however, is not enough to bring in non-Muslim tourists for most of whom alcohol and mixed bathing are a holiday norm.
So Iran is trying to attract Muslims to breathe life into its island resort and counter the flow of Iranians opting for holidays in neighbouring countries.
"We count on the billion-strong Muslim population to vacation here and we are going to invest in attracting them," said Asghar Alizade Gharib, a tourism official on Kish island.
There is quite a long way to go even to keep Muslim tourists happy.
At present only one beach is reserved for women, but there at least they can bathe in swimming costumes even if getting there requires at least a 10-minute drive to or from the nearest hotel.
Covered in sweat and tugging at her headscarf, Somayeh Ebrahimi waits for a taxi outside the beach - sheltered by high wooden fences on the eastern coast, despite there being no high buildings to overlook it.
"This is so inconvenient, I don't mind going to the beach without my husband, but they have to do something to make it easier to get there in this terrible heat," said the 26-year-old mechanical engineer.
It is the first vacation on Kish for Ebrahimi, who has already been to Britain, Dubai and Malaysia, but who says she would much prefer to spend her money at home and see her fellow Iranians become richer.
"I do not care for going to Dubai again; there is nothing cultural to do, but if they want a tourist boom here they should bring in the concerts, the water park and the exotic restaurants."
Once a winter getaway for the former Shah and his family, Kish was declared a free trade zone in 1992 to try to rival nearby Dubai. It became a shopping paradise drawing thousands of tourists to the mushrooming malls despite its unbearable heat and humidity.
"There are not as many visitors to spend big bucks here any more," lamented Saeed Shirazi, a taxi driver who has lived on the island for 18 years.
In a country of 70 million, Kish has an annual one million visitors, with barely any foreigners among them.
Tourists complain there is not much to do except shop, which has lost its appeal as prices are little different from the mainland, where the government reduced import tariffs in a bid to combat smuggling.
"The quality stuff is as expensive as in Tehran and the rest is fake Chinese and Thai plastic," said 27-year-old Shiva Rahmani in disdain, eyeing an imitation Diesel bag in a shop window covered with sale signs.
"I would have liked to go to Dubai or Turkey, but my father does not allow me to go abroad," said this single woman of Iran's neighbours which draw hundreds of thousand of Iranian tourists every year.
She has spent 250 dollars on a five-day package while her friends went to Antaliya in southern Turkey "where there is more freedom and fun for 400 dollars".
Gharib says bargain shopping is no longer a tourist attraction, yet he admits the island does not have much else to offer, especially for women.
"The island has great potential to entertain holiday-makers searching for serenity in a safe familial environment off the beaten track," he said, citing warm winters, a vast sandy coastline, varied marine life and coral reefs.
"We are going to offer top quality service in water sports and eco-tourism as well as affordable accommodation while respecting our red lines," Gharib added, laying out plans for developing golf courses and boating clubs.
"There are plans for separate but close beaches for men and women," he said, acknowledging that the lack of mixed beaches and ban on alcohol are "certainly seen as limitations by many tourists".
One of the main projects is the "Flower of the East" development, which is a 1.7 billion Euro joint venture with the German firm Dress and Sommer which began in 2004 and is expected to be finished by 2009.
The project includes a seven-star and two five-star hotels, three residential areas, villas and apartment complexes, coffee shops, luxury showrooms and stores, sports facilities and a marina for 250 boats.
A golf course is also to be developed on 155 hectares (380 acres) of land. There will be an 18-hole course to PGA standards, and a nine-hole course plus one on top of a tower.
Already entrepreneurs like Hossein Sabet have started investing in luxury hotels on the island. Named after one of Iran's ancient kings, the 200-room Dariush Grand Hotel is an ambitious sprawling compound modelled after Achaemenid capital of Persepolis which opened for business about 30 months ago.
The original plan for the five-star hotel included a private beach with a variety of water sports, which is still awaiting authorization to be developed.
Hotel manager Fereidoon Movafegh said that to attract foreign tourists, the island had to offer more freedom and fun.
"We have no choice but to expand this industry, it's dynamic and keeps making money, unlike oil which will run out sometime," he said.

Golf is making inroads in the Islamic Republic. Two new courses are under development on this coral island just off Iran's Persian Gulf coast, the first in more than 30 years. (AP Photo/Kamran Jebreili)
By JIM KRANE, Associated Press.
KISH, Iran (AP) - Golf never has been very popular in Iran. Even during the days of the shah, there was a single 18-hole course in Tehran: The Imperial Country Club.
And after the 1979 Islamic revolution, golf was derided as a peculiar western waste of time. The embattled Iranian duffer's options dwindled as the Tehran course sprouted weeds and had five holes expropriated by the Revolutionary Guards.
But now golf is making inroads in the Islamic Republic. Two new courses are under development on this coral island just off Iran's Persian Gulf coast, the first in more than 30 years.
A US$2.2-billion golf resort, dubbed The Flower of The East, is under development by an Iranian businessman based in Germany, backed by German and Swiss investors.
The investors believe they'll have little trouble attracting players - and buyers of luxury homes - among the 1.1 million tourists who visit Kish each year. They say the rigours of operating in Iran's isolation are outweighed by Kish's attractions: fine white beaches, and no taxes or restrictions on sending home profits.
But construction has been slowed by the nuclear dispute between Iran and the West. If the United Nations imposes sanctions, developers fear the course and surrounding resort could be delayed - or scuttled.
Ingolf Burstedde, the German engineer overseeing the development, says the German government appears to be withholding normal insurance guarantees to German contractors and architects waiting to build the resort.
"Yes, we're afraid," Burstedde said in his Kish office. "Sanctions would cause a delay, at least. Maybe we'd stop work for a while."
Construction was going ahead last week, with Iranian contractors sculpting a huge patch of land under direction of a Dubai-based golf course designer. Furthest along is a nine-hole course and driving range aimed at first-time golfers.
A tour of the course-to-be last week found backhoes scraping artificial lakes and piling excavated limestone into future bunkers and fairways. The result was a lunar landscape of bleached white hills and dales.
"This is the end of Fairway 4," said project manager Mahmoud Reza Abbasi, giving a tour in his four-wheel drive vehicle. "This is Island B. This is the start of Lake 12."
A French firm will handle the final details, since Iranians have no experience designing golf courses, Abbasi said.
A full 18-hole course planned for a neighbouring site is aimed at foreign tourists and homebuyers, mainly wealthy Iranian expatriates who live in Los Angeles, Germany and across the Persian Gulf in Dubai, Burstedde said.
By 2009, Burstedde said two finished courses will be surrounded by luxury villas and townhouses marketed, in some cases, for millions of dollars each.
A second phase, which developers hope to finish by 2012, would contain a luxury hotel, yachting marina and apartments on a manmade peninsula jutting into the harbour.
Burstedde said Iran's laws mean the resort will lack for two things: integrated bathing and liquor. The Islamic Republic still segregates men and women in the island's swimming pools and beaches. And alcohol is banned in Iran.
"Can you imagine going to the bar and you can't get a whiskey?" Burstedde lamented.
In reality, though, men and women do swim together and any taxi driver on the island can find smuggled alcohol. And Burstedde said his resort is preparing for the day those laws are overturned. Spas and swimming pools are designed with easily removable barriers between men's and women's sides.
"When the laws change we simply remove the walls and men and women can mingle," he said.

For liberal Iranians, it starts with a Kish
'Iranian Island Defies Nation's Conservatism'
http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/2006/WORLD/meast/10/02/iran.kish.ap/story.kish.ap.jpg
Iranian women enjoy a jet-ski ride on Kish island in the Persian Gulf.
KISH, Iran (AP) -- This coral-rimmed vacation island could pass for Iran's Key West -- a place where the sexes mix and the music flows, and where women roar about on jet-skis, let slip their head scarves and frolic with their husbands on the gleaming sands.
Although island authorities draw the line at booze and bikinis, Kish remains a haven of freedom in an Islamic republic under the deepening conservatism of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Lately, however, Kish has lost a few freedoms. It used to boast of beaches for foreign tourists where women could bathe in bikinis alongside men. Those beaches proved too racy and were shut down.
"There are new restrictions here now," says Nasim Sehat, a vacationing 20-year-old Tehran woman bowling with her family. "My sister and I couldn't get permission yesterday to go diving, because we are ladies."
But Ahmadinejad, caught up in a furor over nuclear development and his calls for Israel's destruction, "has better things to do for now" than mess with Kish, said Shahab Rezania, 34, a physical therapist from the mainland city of Shiraz.
Here in the Persian Gulf, 10 miles (16 kilometers) off Iran's mainland and 600 miles (1,000 kilometers) south of Tehran, a woman can ride a bike with her arms bared, hair uncovered and jeans rolled up to the calves. Women go bowling with men, they snorkel and ride jet-skis together and cheer dolphin acrobatics at a Sea World-style amusement park.
And, although it's not really permitted, men and women frolic together on the beach.
"There's no one here to check on you. I haven't seen any police," said Sanam Attaran, 30, a medical technician from Shiraz dining in a packed supper club. "Women here can take their scarves off completely. But it's a little scary to do that."
Even Ramadan, the holy Islamic month of dawn-to-dusk fasting now under way, doesn't slow things down very much.
Attaran, holidaying here before Ramadan began, was dressed like a hippie in an embroidered tunic and sandals. She let her head scarf slide to her shoulders and left it there, defiantly. Gazing at her husband, she said: "When there's nobody around we can swim together."
In mainland Iran, religious laws prohibit women from baring legs, arms or hair. Some activities are segregated, though far less so than in Saudi Arabia, across the Gulf.
Kish governor Madjid Shayesteh, appointed by Ahmadinejad himself, heads the Kish Free Zone, the government agency that runs the 35-square-mile (90-square-kilometer) island as a center for free trade and tourism. He's determined to keep it that way.
"I'll continue what was going on the island, unless people tell me that some of those freedoms aren't in line with the laws," Shayesteh said in an interview. "We're eager to keep a happy environment."
And do business. Tehran wants to use Kish's liberal social and economic climate to stanch the hemorrhage of Iranian capital and lure back citizens who have moved across the Gulf to the freewheeling United Arab Emirates, especially booming Dubai, to escape Iran's conservatism.
Iranian parliamentarian Hadi Haqshenas recently complained that Iran's overweening economic rules had triggered the exodus.
"The booming economy in the U.A.E. is a direct consequence of Iran's failed policies" in economics and trade, Haqshenas told the English-language paper Iran News. "Since these wrongheaded policies won't be reversed any time soon, we can expect the U.A.E. to attract many of our specialists, medical doctors, engineers and other experts."
The island is crammed with duty-free malls and luxury hotels, with new ones springing up by the dozen. Work has begun on a $2.2 billion golf resort.
"Kish is improving and developing. They're putting in a lot of effort to make it nice," Sehat remarked amid the clatter of strikes and splits at the Maryam Bowling Alley.
"But there isn't enough freedom here," she said. "I still prefer Dubai."
Kish was developed in the 1970s under Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi. He used Iran's oil wealth to build a casino and hotel on a scrub-covered coral island whose main feature was a primitive fishing village. His airport was built to handle Concordes that were said to fly in from Paris loaded with prostitutes and dinner from Maxim's restaurant.
Kish sat idle for years after the 1979 Islamic revolution ousted the shah, but was declared a free zone in 1989 and development resumed.
Since then, it has wielded a big influence over the rest of Iran. When the country undertook reforms in the 1990s, social freedoms were tested in Kish and, if they proved harmless, moved to Tehran and elsewhere.
Nightclub singing appeared in Kish while it was still banned on the mainland. Women were first allowed to bicycle in public in Kish, a privilege now enjoyed across Iran. Paintball games were introduced here first and have since shown up in Tehran.
Live music is perhaps Kish's most striking attraction.
On a recent September night, Javed, the grizzled crooner at the Shandiz nightclub, sang a Shah-era song whose female singer, Marzieh, is banned from performing in Iran. Waiters served beer mugs of doogh, a yogurt drink, and charred lamb on skewers. Women let their scarves slip and sang along, wiggling to the music in their seats or smoking hookahs.
At the giant Dariush Grand hotel, whose motifs celebrate Iran's pre-Islamic glories, spokeswoman Marzieh Sanai explained: "The idea is to show foreigners, especially westerners, that Iran isn't what you've been seeing on the news for the past 30 years. Iran has a strong culture and long history and we are proud of it."

For the most part, Kish is Iran's Key West, the closest thing to a party island in the Islamic Republic. Here, a woman can ride a bike with her arms bared, hair uncovered and jeans rolled up to the calves. Women go bowling with men, they snorkel and ride jet-skis together and, although it's not really permitted, frolic together on the beach.

The Kish Shipping Services Company has launched the first Kish-Dubai passenger line in order to attract foreign tourists, According to KSSC Managing Director Ahmad Karami.
The line has been established jointly by the Val-Fajr Shipping Company and the KSSC and the first group of foreign tourists comprised of 100 people entered Kish Island concurrent with Eid Fetr.
One of the great advantage of this sea voyage over air travel is the inexpensive ticket. The ticket price is about Rls. 550,000 for Iranians and 270 dirhams for foreign tourists.
The Negin Ship can carry 250 passengers and 20 tons of goods on it's four hour cruise over the 115-mile distance between Kish and Dubai. Each passenger will be entitled to bring 50 kilograms of luggage free of charge.

shugs December 6th, 2006, 04:27 PM Kish Island’s Tourism on the Rise
The number of tourist arrivals to the Persian Gulf Island of Kish between March and December this year has increased by 23 percent compared to the same period last year.
Tehran, 6 December 2006 (CHN Foreign Desk) -- Statistics show an increase of 23 percent in the number of tourist arrivals to the Persian Gulf Island of Kish in the first eight months of the Iranian (solar) year – that is between mid-March and December 2006, compared to the similar period last year. This number is anticipated to rise even more considering that Kish Island will be hosting a series of festivals and exhibitions in the upcoming months.
According to Ali Gharibzadeh, deputy director of Kish Free Zone Organization in tourism affairs, the cooling of the weather in the past few months in Kish Island together with the numerous exhibitions which were recently held in this Persian Gulf Island drew in large numbers of tourists to the region such that almost all the hotels were fully booked.
“Facilities granted to travel agencies as well as reorganization of the accommodation centers, restaurants, and tourist attraction sites of Kish Island can be taken as other factors responsible for the increase in the number of tourist arrivals to Kish Island,” added Gharibzadeh.
Located 19 kilometers off mainland Iran, Kish Island has a unique position in the strategic Persian Gulf region among tens of other large and small islands. It is considered a major commercial center linking Iran to the southern countries of the Persian Gulf. Having a number of beautiful tourist attraction centers and historic sites, Kish Island has become known as the “Pearl of the Persian Gulf” since the ancient times.

In addition to yielding profit, tourism industry paves the way for promulgating the culture and civilization of the country and region.
“As long as we do not invest in the field, we cannot claim to have progressed. The capacities of Kish Free Trade Zone are currently presented as investment packages,” he said.
Salahi noted that the Padideh Shandiz tourism project is an important achievement of the private sector in expanding tourism industry.
“The company has managed to correctly utilize the tourism potentials of Shandiz in Mashhad and generate income for the regional people,” he said.
Salahi said the most important feature of Padideh Shandiz project on Kish Island is generation of new jobs.
“So far, some 400 jobs have been generated in this project. The company is the biggest entity in the private sector for creating jobs,” he said.
Achievements
Mohebbi said his organization has always supported investors engaged in tourism projects on Kish Island.
“The fact that Padideh Shandiz Company managed to make this project operational within a short period of 110 days is a great achievement for managers of this company and KFTZO. We hope that with the launch of the next phases of this project, such as hotel and Shahed shopping centers, more domestic and foreign tourists would visit the island,” he said.
Fahimirad said the culture and attitude of Mashhad, the religious capital of Iran, now also prevails in other parts of the country with the inauguration of the one of the successful cultural and tourism subsidiaries of Padideh Shandiz.
“I personally believe that launching such a large center is an ideal and efficient course of action for two-way relationship between people and cultural accomplishments. In order to expand and promulgate the Iranian-Islamic culture and identify the unmatched capabilities of Iranians, Padideh Shandiz is an endurable work that can be considered as a paradigm (for other cases),” he said.
Addressing this ceremony, Managing Director of Padideh Shandiz Company Mohsen Pahlavan Moqaddam said that in the first phase of this project about 70 billion rials were spent for purchasing the restaurant’s land and preparing the needed facilities.
Project Details
The first phase of this complex, which includes the Padideh Restaurant, was constructed in a built-in area of 11,000 square meters.
Some 830 billion rials were spent for buying the surrounding land by KFTZO, which reached 200,000 square meters. In addition to the money spent for purchasing lands, 180 billion rials were spent for constructing this complex.
The built-in area of this restaurant is 6,000 square meters. Some 400 new jobs were generated and this figure will hit 500 people in the next couple of months,” he said.
Pahlavan said it is the biggest indoor restaurant of the world and a ship anchor weighing 100 tons lies adjacent to the restaurant.
The anchor was designed by one of the youths of the country and built by Iranian engineers within 35 days.
“This is the biggest anchor in the world, which will be registered in the Guinness Book of World Records in the near future,” he said.
Referring to the future tourism projects of his company, he said, “Future plans include the construction of the tourism project of Padideh Shandiz in Shiraz and Mashhad. For the latter, 500,000 square meters of land have been purchased.”
Two years were spent on designs and soon Phase One of the undertaking will start. The tourism cultural complex will have a library, mosque, auditorium with a capacity of 1,200 seats, plant and flower international exhibition, five-star hotel, residential complex, construction of the biggest amusement park of the world, an aquatic park and a shopping center.
On the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony, the deputy head of Majlis Economic Commission, Kazem Delkhosh, said the parliament, government and all related bodies are fully supporting these projects.
Padideh Shandiz Complex is one of the big projects that show the might and prudence of Iranians.
The lawmaker noted that the record set regarding the project’s timetable shows the peak of capabilities of Iranians to the rest of the world.
“That a huge project is completed in such a short time and receives the attention of experts and people requires a special outlook which, I believe, must be backed by related organizations,” he said.
Delkhosh emphasized that Padideh Shandiz Complex can mark a new start for a great revolution in attracting tourists.
