We knew of this tower for ages now.
http://www.burjalalam.com/home.htm
Here is the website, still under construction, you can just watch the video.
It will be the tallest all commercial tower in the world.
located in Business Bay.

Burj Al Alam in foreground, Burj Dubai on the right, then there is another supertall on a location we expect the Business Bay centerpiece tower which should be REALLY tall :naughty:

http://www.tp.spt.fi/~jukarkil/uae/burj_al_alam.jpg
fahed March 8th, 2006, 05:31 PM is that fortune tower 101 ?
It is impressive!
dubaiflo March 8th, 2006, 05:35 PM yes this was formerly referred to as fortune 101.
and there is something weird about it, it says hotel and office in the description, so it is impossible this is the world's tallest commercial tower..?
fahed March 8th, 2006, 05:41 PM fortune 101 is a better name. The name of this tower sounds like something an arrogant kid would say!
DrasQue March 8th, 2006, 05:54 PM Any of you know its lenght ? and does this tower belong to Dubai International Properties? and Burj dubai?
Biakko March 8th, 2006, 06:08 PM There is what I think to be another render oh the "unknown supertall" :

Open Road March 9th, 2006, 03:01 AM As for the tower.... SPROING... I need a towel.
Indyman March 9th, 2006, 03:33 AM This is amazing. I feel redundent saying that but what else can you say.
Oriolus March 9th, 2006, 06:16 AM Any of you know its lenght ?If they're claiming it to be the worlds tallest commercial tower then according to SSP it will have to be taller than Petronas Towers (452m) - SSP lists T101, BD, SWFC & ICC as mixed use. But as dubaiflo pointed out, the description says it has a hotel so Burj Al Alam will probably have to be considered mixed use as well - I think the rule is 90% must be office for it be considered an office building?
soup or man March 9th, 2006, 06:39 AM It's nice.
rj2uman March 9th, 2006, 06:43 AM Best Geekgasm I have had in MONTHS!!! Anyone who says that this isn't a simply gorgeous building is kidding themselves.
neilio March 9th, 2006, 07:17 AM what is the official height of this tower in Meters?
does 101F mean 101 floors...ive only ever seen the "F" classification used in the dubai forums...so im not sure.
Naga_Solidus March 9th, 2006, 07:44 AM Gotta love the slender look, it kind of reminds me of one of the structures proposed for Qatar (is it u/c yet?)
godblessbotox March 9th, 2006, 07:55 AM this has to be my favorite dubai building. not just another building that could be made anywere in the world. it has a very unique "dubaiee" look to it
Imperfect Ending March 9th, 2006, 08:19 AM sure... go ahead and build it.... why not...
OtAkAw March 9th, 2006, 10:50 AM another tower?? Oh well, not surprised... :)
OtAkAw March 9th, 2006, 10:51 AM Dear Dubai,
I'll be straightforward, can you donate at least one tower for my city?
Thanks...
(wish it was as easy as that!)
Dubai Fan 4 Life March 9th, 2006, 01:37 PM Towers like that need to be built in the U.S. We have too many boxed structures.
Citystyle March 9th, 2006, 02:03 PM GW GW GW.

crazyevildude March 9th, 2006, 03:37 PM Dear Dubai,
I'll be straightforward, can you donate at least one tower for my city?
Thanks...
(wish it was as easy as that!)
I dunno, they're giving towers to Doha and Istanbul. Surely more will follow? ;)
I love this tower by the way. All the proposals for Business Bay seem to be stunning, it's going to be a gorgeous area when complete.
neilio March 9th, 2006, 06:52 PM does anybody know the height of this tower in meters? or has only a floor height been released?
This tower is beautifull and im planning on doing the rendering/diagram for it on skyscraperpage.com
dubaiflo March 9th, 2006, 07:41 PM we only know about the number of floors at the moment, which is 101F.
Nightsky March 9th, 2006, 07:45 PM With 101 floors it will rarely be taller than Burj Dubai if built.
Nice flowerlike design.
Is there any chance that this can actually could get built?
malec March 9th, 2006, 08:19 PM There's no way this will be taller than burj dubai Nightsky. It has only 101 floors so it should be around 440m or so. BTW could you draw a diagram of this for skyscraperpage?
Nobody ever said it would be the tallest in the world. The chances of this getting built are quite high I would say
AltinD March 9th, 2006, 11:27 PM This project by DIMENSION group is floa ting around since long time and some months ago, The Business bay developer auctioned 8 plots with unlimited height so I see no reason to see this as just "another proposal".
AltinD March 9th, 2006, 11:27 PM This project by DIMENSION group is floating around since long time and some months ago, The Business bay developer auctioned 8 plots with unlimited height so I see no reason to look at this as just "another proposal".
soup or man March 10th, 2006, 02:22 AM You know, looking at it, it reminds me of Al Sharq with a waist.

Þróndeimr March 13th, 2006, 10:26 AM Stunning!
Dubai is in need for buildings in the 400-500m height. Tjis building has a great futuristic design, can't wait to see it completed! :okay:
Nightsky March 14th, 2006, 08:13 PM There's no way this will be taller than burj dubai Nightsky. It has only 101 floors so it should be around 440m or so. BTW could you draw a diagram of this for skyscraperpage?
Nobody ever said it would be the tallest in the world. The chances of this getting built are quite high I would say
That's exactly what I said, I meant it will rarely be taller, that was just bad English:D. I meant it will hardly be taller, it will not be taller than Burj Dubai like someone meant (can't remember who).
Of course I could do a diagram of it, but I think other illustrators to draw could draw something for Dubai too.
Stephan23 March 14th, 2006, 08:56 PM Think 475m is a good height for this one.
Naz UK March 26th, 2006, 01:39 AM Just exactly how many towers will Dubai have over 400m? Any guesses/estimates?
This i think should then be used as a benchmark against all other cities in the world...would be an interesting find....
jai_gandhi March 26th, 2006, 02:05 AM I think 5
malec March 26th, 2006, 02:13 AM For the marina probably 2, one is princess and damac will build the other (whether it's ocean heights II or that one on the signboard nobody knows but I'd say one of them will be built anyway). For the burj dubai area there'll be the 2 burjes and certainly 1 more (the business bay centrepiece). Maybe another one after that who knows.
Tom_Green March 26th, 2006, 02:23 AM Just exactly how many towers will Dubai have over 400m? Any guesses/estimates?
This i think should then be used as a benchmark against all other cities in the world...would be an interesting find....
Right now there is only one under construction.
DG March 26th, 2006, 07:59 AM neat ;)
SA BOY March 26th, 2006, 12:37 PM Right now there is only one under construction.

Stephan23 March 27th, 2006, 05:59 PM already a month old though. they should have started by now.
Yeah, that's right Flo. And I want a new picture.
Please AltinD. Go out and take your camera!!!!!
KuwaitLover March 28th, 2006, 11:38 AM I have just come back from the press conference to launch this project.
Total cost is AED 4 billion. Piling package expected to be awarded imminently, with main construction contract awarded later this year. Height is 108 floors, 480 metres all habitable, including the world's highest hotel.
Architect is Nihon. Arup is structural and mechanical engineer. TAK is the PMC.
Completion is set for 2009.
malec March 28th, 2006, 12:09 PM I thought this was always supposed to be 101F high
KuwaitLover March 28th, 2006, 12:18 PM It's definitely 108 floors, 480 metres. I forgot to mention it will be located in Business Bay not far from Burj Dubai.
Bikes March 28th, 2006, 01:16 PM Very good news, so now its official, another supertall for Dubai! Cant believe that this one is only slightly smaller than Taipei 101...
malec March 28th, 2006, 01:48 PM Shit this tower's going to cost loads! It seems to be about the same as burj dubai :weird:
dazz March 28th, 2006, 02:31 PM http://www.ameinfo.com/81674.html

To be developed at an estimated value of Dhs. 4 billion, this magnificent project will come to life at the emirate's prime Business Bay area.
Tipped to be the tallest and the most incredible edifice dedicated to commercial space, Burj Al Alam will reflect Dubai's growing eminence in the world of business. Aside from its formidable height, the project's design is also poised to be the most striking in the aesthetic sense.
The Fortune Group will commence construction of Burj Al Alam - The World Tower in 2006 and complete it by 2009. This master project will house the world's highest hotel. Rising beyond 480 metres into the sky, Burj Al Alam is designed to resemble a dazzling crystal flower. Of its total 108-storeys, 74 storeys will be dedicated to offices, while 27-storey will be taken up by hotels and service apartments. The balance will be covered by retail spaces.
Burj Al Alam is the most significant initiative in the Fortune Group's proposed investment plan which also includes projects in Dubailand, Sharjah and international markets. The Fortune Group has so far conceptualised and developed real estate projects valued at Dhs. 2.3 billion across the Emirate.
Highlighting its role in Dubai's property sector, Mr. Ahmed Khoory, Chairman - Fortune Group said: 'Dubai is fast emerging as a business powerhouse, backed by the creative vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. Real estate is among the biggest beneficiaries of Dubai's trial-blazing growth. Encouraged by a vibrant economy and surging capital values, the sector has attracted the attention of international investors and developers alike.'
'The Fortune Group has been an active participant in the growth of Dubai's real estate sector with significant projects on The Palm - Jebel Ali, International Media Production Zone, Dubai Sports City and Jumeirah Lake Towers. Our projects reflect a fine balance between innovation, creativity and quality. At Fortune, we visualise concepts that go beyond convention, making our projects truly unique,'
he said.
Announcing the group's future initiatives, Mr. Syed Mohammad Ali, CEO - Fortune Group said: 'Going forward, the Group will continue to be inspired by the spirit of Dubai - that of continually reinventing itself. Our firm commitment to Dubai prompted us to conceive an inimitable project - Burj Al Alam, which will symbolise the dynamism and success of the Emirate. The project will be a defining marker for Dubai - both in terms of its incredible height as well as distinctive design besides being a world landmark - one that will dominate the top of the tallest list.'
Burj Al Alam will illustrate architectural ingenuity, adding a new dimension to Dubai's eye-catching cityscape. More importantly, it will back the economic initiatives of the government by creating the most futuristic infrastructure for businesses to operate and grow. It will also offer local and international investors a sterling opportunity to enhance returns, besides also maximising value for end-users, secondary investors and shareholders.
The iconic tower is strategically designed to accentuate the view of Business Bay creek in the south and the Burj Dubai super high rise in the north. The building features a 6-sty 'crown' that consists of a sky garden, Turkish bath, club facilities and a helipad. Each office floor plate is divided into six 'petals', allowing flexibility for mixed tenancy planning. An extensive podium design with speciality design retail spaces featuring luxury designer brand will serve as first point of approach for pedestrian traffic.
The Fortune Group currently has a total project area of 4 million square feet under development. Each project of the Fortune Group offers an attractive investment opportunity, while also contributing to the growth of the real estate sector in Dubai. The Group's Fortune Tower, off Sheikh Zayed Road, was on of Dubai's first freehold commercial property featuring a unique revolving restaurant. Also within its fold is Casa Marbella, on The Palm-Jebel Ali, which will introduce Dubai to Mediterranean living and the concept of designer spaces. Other projects by the Fortune Group include Fortune Executive Tower offering the first freehold duplex office spaces at the Jumeirah Lake Towers area, Fortune Serene in the International Media Production Zone, which blends luxury, glamour and affordability and Fortune Araames offering commercial space in Jumeirah Lake Towers.
The Fortune Group's up-coming projects include Fortune Bay - a commercial tower at Business Bay and Fortune Pavilion another commercial project at Dubai Sports City.

 :cucumber:
Expect the website to be up soon
AltinD March 28th, 2006, 04:23 PM Shit this tower's going to cost loads! It seems to be about the same as burj dubai :weird:
Not really. 3 Billion AED ($800M) was only the value of the contract awarded to Samsung for building the tower structure and that didn't include tens of millions already spent on pilling and the raft foundation. Also the separate electro-mechanical work packagge awarded to ETA Star was around 2 Billion AED and around 1 Billion was the elevators contract awarded to OTIS.
Then is the landscaping packagge and we don't know if the main contract to Samsung included or not the glass and aluminium panels for the facade.
Newspaper articles can be deceiving, like those that let people belive workers building Burj Dubai rioted and work was halted, when in reality the rioting workers were working on the nearby Dubai Mall. ;)
dubaiflo March 28th, 2006, 04:31 PM ^^ exactly.
didn't the foundation for BD cost 1Bn Dhs alone?
jorgen March 28th, 2006, 04:47 PM Well, we know what hotel to book into when going to Dubai in some years then :)
ARMANI March 28th, 2006, 05:02 PM So it this skyscraper going to be built or not?
malec March 28th, 2006, 05:21 PM The article says it'll start construction this year
Stephan23 March 28th, 2006, 05:47 PM High as the ICC and only 10 meters to go to the SWFC and Lotte Tower.
New York Yankee March 28th, 2006, 06:58 PM Wow! This is a beauty in high i love! between the 400-500 metres border is great!
Dubai-Lover March 28th, 2006, 07:04 PM 480m is certainly more than i expected!
great news today
CULWULLA March 29th, 2006, 05:31 AM 480m!! wow. lucky dubai. only 4m shorter then ICC. ill have to include it in BIG 3 diagrams.
skyperu34 March 29th, 2006, 06:08 AM its a nice tower with a nice top !
malec March 29th, 2006, 09:46 AM It's not U/C yet though ;)
malec March 30th, 2006, 02:49 AM As done previously with a different tower, comparrison with the world's current tallest:
http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/2990/compare25zx.jpg
Now waiting for someone to draw a good SSP diagram of this one
ARMANI March 30th, 2006, 02:51 AM Why didnt they just make this taller then taipei 101? It would be so cool then dubai will have the 3 tallest building on planet.
malec March 30th, 2006, 02:53 AM There's not much point. Who cares what number it is in some list, the fact is this building looks great and that's what matters the most.
By then, Fordham spire, freedom tower and the moscow tower will be under construction which would have been taller anyway
Miami as in Perfect March 30th, 2006, 03:25 AM are there any planes that fly in dubai?! i mean, they seem to have no height restrictions. at all. here in miami it seems as if we need clerance by 50 different approval boards before we stand up. i like dubai. heh.
SA BOY March 30th, 2006, 08:25 AM there are 112 different airlines flying into Dubai and the airport is about 6km from this site
SA BOY March 30th, 2006, 08:28 AM malac
you could be waiting a while for a drawing of this, I mean there isset even a thread about a 480m tower over there but hunderds of "show us your city stadiums " and " wow a 15story new tower for Buffalo" crap. Nevermind at least Emporis is keeping pace with the tower announcements
godblessbotox March 30th, 2006, 09:00 AM look at that render again... this building has what? a third the usable floor space as the sears tower? i thought the point of skyscrapers is to use the most of your land not just stick a pole in the gound with one office at the top.
malec March 30th, 2006, 11:19 AM are there any planes that fly in dubai?! i mean, they seem to have no height restrictions. at all. here in miami it seems as if we need clerance by 50 different approval boards before we stand up. i like dubai. heh.
Yes there are and in fact height restrictions but this place is far away from the airport. There was supposed to be a project (park square) with huge towers in an area near the airport and details were supposed to be released last year and towers were supposed to be U/C already. We suspect it was cancelled because the height regulations were revamped and this area was really badly affected
look at that render again... this building has what? a third the usable floor space as the sears tower? i thought the point of skyscrapers is to use the most of your land not just stick a pole in the gound with one office at the top.
I was also wondering about that. Usually in Dubai these tall towers are residential so it's easier to go taller since you don't have as many elevators wasting space. I don't know how this'll work though. The top 30 or so floors will be apartments and a hotel so there won't be a need for loads of lifts servicing the top. Maybe this'll help, I dunno.
SA Boy, there is a thread about it over on SSP already (because I created one :D)
I've requested a diagram for this so Nightsky or Raptor might do one
Biakko March 30th, 2006, 02:02 PM look at that render again... this building has what? a third the usable floor space as the sears tower? i thought the point of skyscrapers is to use the most of your land not just stick a pole in the gound with one office at the top.
Well you know, in Dubai the natural floor is totally composed of sand, so basicly it is not very useful. That is why a building is better.
And if you have a look at the number of Dubai projects, there are so much of them that they may dare doing one or two crazy towers
malec March 30th, 2006, 02:23 PM ^^ That's the thing though. Usually developers like Emaar or Nakheel can afford to build a huge tower that probably won't make a lot of money but they then get publicity and can also charge extra for having something like burj dubai in the view of your apartment. This is built by a not-so-large developer ( www.fortunegroup.ae/ ) who only have a few towers in Dubai
Biakko March 30th, 2006, 02:30 PM What I'd like to know is about Nakheel and Emaar benefits. Do you know where I can find that ?
dubaiflo March 30th, 2006, 04:27 PM emaar profit 2005:

"Rising beyond 480 metres into the sky"... keep that in mind. It's probably going to be more than 480 meters and we UAE forumers are hoping they cross the 500m mark.

demand, not much space in prime residential areas such as dubai marina, cooling efficiency, relatively cheap construction (and yes, we know the workers don't get much money).
Jue April 1st, 2006, 01:34 AM I'll repeat that one: cooling efficiency
Anybody that discounts its importance has not experienced 50-degree weather. :p
Also, high-rise developments allow for more efficient transport networks in the future. Nobody says Dubai has to stick purely to cars.

Bikes April 3rd, 2006, 12:35 AM I think the height is pretty exact. www.burjalalam.com is back up!
Citystyle April 3rd, 2006, 01:26 AM It says the worlds largest tower. Not height but largest biggrt than sears and Burj D?
Ok they claim it to be the The world's tallest commercial structure??? :)
FREKI April 3rd, 2006, 01:28 AM What a beauty!
malec April 3rd, 2006, 01:35 AM Ok they claim it to be the The world's tallest commercial structure??? :)
Which is bullshit anyways since it about 1/4 of it is a hotel and serviced apartments.
I wonder who the architect for this is. I'm liking this tower more and more and I think it's as good as some of the best supertalls going up worldwide such as SWFC, etc. I know burj dubai is just around the corner but I doubt it'll go unnoticed since everything about it screams landmark.
Something else I like is when certain skyscrapers wouldn't fit anywhere else other than the city they were designed for. This is one of those buildings. The only other place this would fit is Las Vegas, would make a nice LV type uber-hotel if built there :D
Can't wait until some highres renders come out

ITS NOT...

for those intrested in dimensions. Burj al alam is only 39m wide at narrowest mid section. that has to tne thinnest in world for a 500m tower?
Its base = 68m wide ,while top section = 49m wide. Its actually roof top or lev 104 = 448m.
cheers

shaggers_jr June 20th, 2006, 10:56 AM This design is totally nuts - you have to be excited by it. But am I the only one who thinks the podiums of many supertalls are fairly banal and don't do justice to the ambition of the rest of the structure. This render is not very detailed but the podium just looks like a boring glassy mall.

shaggers_jr June 22nd, 2006, 11:34 AM The podium IS a (boring) glassy mall. ;)
I know.... but surely they can do better. It's like all the thought goes into what's up top and nothing into the street level.
lakegz June 22nd, 2006, 12:29 PM wouldnt something that tall and thin be horribly innefficient as an office building? especially with the narrowing going on in the center. i think it does look nice but will they have a hard time making money with such a design?
Citystyle June 22nd, 2006, 12:59 PM wouldnt something that tall and thin be horribly innefficient as an office building? especially with the narrowing going on in the center. i think it does look nice but will they have a hard time making money with such a design?
Compared to 101, sears and the WTC mabey.
But compared to Shanghi this aint that bad. Thinning of the floor plates there is extream.
This is a huge building so it can afford to have reduce it's floor plates because still they are fatter than alot out there. Anyway this a land mark building floor plate shape and size are not the attraction, behing spread over floors is a part of office life. Stairs fix that problem.
So this building can be finacially sound.
Citystyle June 22nd, 2006, 01:00 PM I know.... but surely they can do better. It's like all the thought goes into what's up top and nothing into the street level.
Well its better than alot going around on the super talls.
malec June 23rd, 2006, 12:12 AM I really don't get why everyone says this is so bad on the street level. First of all we don't even have the proper plans so we can't judge how the base will look like exactly. What's so bad about shops at the base anyway, isn't this actually a good thing to do to encourage street life? Also there seems to be a bit of a green area which should be welcome in business bay since it'll be very dense if all the towers get built. Also I don't see any parking lots normally associated with shopping malls.
lakegz, I'm sure (or I hope ;)) they have some plan for building the tower and making a profit providing enough is sold.
Techno-Architect August 30th, 2006, 10:37 PM really amazin tower!!

Myster E August 7th, 2007, 01:10 AM Out of all the crazy supertalls going up in Dubai, this one along with the Burj are my favourite. I like the uniqueness in style and the height is pretty much on par with Hong Kong's US7 ICC, i'm torn between which I prefer more. The foundation and site looks pretty vast.

Rizzato August 7th, 2007, 01:55 AM nice tower, Ive got to ask this, how many towers does Dubai have u/c that are 400 meters or more? I know this is not the place to ask, but Ill probably forget this question and never ask it again.
Hollie Maea August 7th, 2007, 02:10 AM ^^
Four:
Burj Dubai (800+)
Burj Al Alam (484)
Princess Tower (415)
Marina 101 (412)
Others are in planning stage, but not under construction.

18 U/C

Obviously the helipad seams to have been removed from the plans.
ZZ-II August 10th, 2007, 07:35 PM harm. a helipad would have been a great addition for the tower.
