View Full Version : BRISBANE: Parklands at Roma Street
nagelixin March 31st, 2003, 03:26 AM http://www.pradella.com.au/parklands/parkhome.htm
In what other capital city in Australia - or the world for that matter - could you actually live in a picturesque 40 acre park right on the very fringe of the central business district?
We believe there is only one place where you could possibly enjoy such a unique lifestyle and live in the world's largest sub-tropical garden in a city centre.
The city, fortunately for you, is Brisbane.
The place, naturally, is Parklands.
.....
Or so the site says, one view you will have the parklands, the other side you will have noisy train station.
felix March 31st, 2003, 04:27 AM what about 5th Avenue looking at Central Park in NYC. It may not be subtropical. It's definitely bigger than 40 hectare.
nagelixin March 31st, 2003, 04:36 AM It would be nicer if the parklands were built over the Roma Street train station itself. The station is an eye sore.
Or the 'super stadium' should of been built there, instead of upgrading the old Suncorp Stadium at Milton.
CULWULLA April 30th, 2003, 04:49 PM bump
Fountainhead May 1st, 2003, 01:14 PM the second stage is now marketing - another rather wide 15 storey building....website has been updated with new renderings of the entire complex. It is the first time I have seen the entire proposal in full - it's not too bad....
this is the first stage's second tower, they are all fairly similar:

Orodreth August 17th, 2003, 12:56 PM There hasn't been much talk about this one for months now!
I drove past this morning, and I could see cranes and foundation work.
nagelixin August 18th, 2003, 12:51 AM Are the developers concerned about the recent comments in relation to CityWest about the airspace over Roma Street Station??
Surely an investor would not want to lose out??
nagelixin January 30th, 2004, 04:36 AM Bump.
CULWULLA January 31st, 2004, 01:32 PM Parklands!!

Anyway here are some pics and info.
Cost - $190,000,000
Apartments = 441

nagelixin April 15th, 2004, 02:52 AM Will all the units face towards the parklands? Or will a handfull face the railyards??
FAVELLE July 13th, 2004, 11:39 AM 4th hammerhead was erected today
bum July 14th, 2004, 04:40 AM gotta love apartments next to huge train-station like Roma st, place for plebs to live, unless their going to cover up Roma st
nagelixin July 14th, 2004, 05:33 AM A friend at work has bought one, my only concern would be noise, and if long term if they build over Roma Street Station.
FAVELLE July 28th, 2004, 01:46 AM 5th Hammerhead going up this morning :)
CULWULLA October 28th, 2004, 06:47 AM bump!
Orfeo October 28th, 2004, 08:53 AM I noticed a while ago some of the green covering had come down. I havn't passed it in awhile so I'm not sure whether they're removing all of the stuff.

Muse December 20th, 2004, 12:53 AM ^ ^ Topped out?
Check out Observatory Tower topping out in the background to the left.
What are the rail lines behind the development? Are they the commuter trains for the line that goes onto Toowong, Indooroopilly and beyond? Looks like it from the tagged aerial that CULWULLA posted on 31 Jan. (the tracks look rusted tho').
...
Macca-GC December 20th, 2004, 01:21 AM Roma Street Station is the biggest train station in Qld.
The in the foreground of that photo is the Exhibition line, which is like an inner-northern loop. Goes from Roma St, Exhibition, Brunswick St, Central, Roma. It's only used at Ekka time. Where you can see the train at the right, all lines pass through this area. The tracks split about 200m further west, the Ipswich, Gold Coast and the Cleveland lines all go west. The Airtrain, Ferny Grove and Sunshine Coast lines all go in the opposite direction.
Macca-GC December 20th, 2004, 01:38 AM No, not topped out yet. Completion moved forward to Dec. 2005
GMAC December 20th, 2004, 03:45 AM Am I blind cos I cant see observatory topping out anywhere in that pic?
And Toadman, you mean Pinnacle dont you, surely the rest will be completed in the next couple of months?
Macca-GC December 20th, 2004, 04:24 AM Don't worry, I can't see it either. Pinnacle and the final stage will both finish at the end of next year.
GMAC December 20th, 2004, 06:44 AM I thought Pinnacle was the last stage?
nikko December 20th, 2004, 07:49 AM Looking good. The scaffolding and framework look really dominant coming in from the fiveways.
Macca-GC December 20th, 2004, 04:36 PM I thought Pinnacle was the last stage?
From the way I interpreted the website and that photo before, there's another building towards the Exhibition Line that is about to be released. I'm not 100% sure about this, I may be wrong.
BrizzyChris December 21st, 2004, 03:50 AM Hopefully a road/pedestrian bridge across the rail lines to Countess St won't be far away either. What I'm hoping as well, is that the Parklands development has been built so that it can potentially link with a development over the railway lines and station in the future - if that ever happens.
JayT December 22nd, 2004, 02:30 AM I thought Pinnacle was the last stage?
It is - in the photo above its the closest one to the camera, its only just started construction.
jt
andy77aus December 22nd, 2004, 05:20 AM They really need to conceal those tracks somehow. They are a bit of an eyesaw when your coming into town from paddington/ bardon area.
Macca-GC December 23rd, 2004, 05:45 PM It is - in the photo above its the closest one to the camera, its only just started construction.
jt
But there's another stage towards the Countess Street end.
See map (http://www.pradella.com.au/parklands/umasterplan.htm)
GMAC December 30th, 2004, 02:57 PM Quite right Toadman, cant believe I didnt notice that before, that makes it even better.
With regards to building over the train tracks, it sought of surprised me that when they built the inner northern busway between the tracks and Countess St, that they didnt cover it over. And it looks quite permament with no noticable allowance for future covering even though it has been sunken so far down.
Malt December 30th, 2004, 03:26 PM i have some pics to post when i get the USB cord for this camera (i forgot to grab it :()
Muse January 1st, 2005, 02:17 AM Can't wait expert Malt :)
Don't worry, I can't see it either. Pinnacle and the final stage will both finish at the end of next year.Well, what is the building in the very background then? Similar shapes to Observatory with red 'n white cranes.

Orfeo January 1st, 2005, 08:55 AM ^
Looks quite impressive.
Favco750 March 17th, 2005, 02:07 PM What's happening with this, anyone got any news????????????????
Malt March 17th, 2005, 05:50 PM Going up still. lol.
In the 'smaller developments' thread in this forum someone posted a render of one of the towers yet to be built.
Orfeo March 18th, 2005, 03:04 AM The first 4 buildings are pretty much complete...painted, just finishing touches. It is the remaining 2/3 that only started last year that are still going up.
Grantus March 19th, 2005, 07:42 AM It's good to see more plans like this going up just out of the CBD. I like it when you first enter the outskirts or brisbane and make your way through, you see the structures building up slowly untill you hit the center and go, wow!
Ausilencer March 19th, 2005, 10:05 AM Yeah, I think most of the scaffolding is coming down from the near-complete buildings closest to the city (just looked at them yesterday).
Thor March 21st, 2005, 07:03 AM i think the 1st three buildings are finishing around may and the last building is planned for the end of the year.
Danubis March 21st, 2005, 09:23 AM got some quick drive-by pics of parklands yesterday (Sunday 20th March 2005)

Grantus March 21st, 2005, 11:20 AM excellent!
BrizzyChris March 22nd, 2005, 01:15 AM Fairly decent in the end.
CULWULLA March 26th, 2005, 01:58 PM so no3 on parkland is now completed? or bit more to go?
Orfeo March 26th, 2005, 03:11 PM ^
Structurally it is complete, but I don't think they've pulled off all the green protective stuff yet. You can see it in the Danubis's 2nd pic as the only one not totally revealed.
Muse March 27th, 2005, 12:10 AM I'm a wee bit confused. How many buildings altogether in this project? I've looked through this thread, checked the Parklands' web site and went to ss.com (Emporis), all to no avail.
Orfeo March 27th, 2005, 03:39 AM dp
Orfeo March 27th, 2005, 03:40 AM ^
5 buildings - 3, 4, 5 and 7 Parkland Boulevard and Pinnacle; the last two still have quite a bit of construction left. Only 3 Parkland Bvd and Pinnacle are included in Emporis, the others are too small.
notra March 27th, 2005, 05:56 AM According to http://www.seqrents.com.au/parklands , apartments in 4 Parklands will be avilable from 26.4.05 and in 3 Parklands from 15.5.05.

Correct me if I am wrong with what I have called each building, am I right in saying that Parklands 4 is the small long building in front of 3 and 5?
notra March 29th, 2005, 02:30 AM The small block of 2 story buildings is 5 in front of the larger 4
BrizzyChris March 29th, 2005, 02:38 AM Great work GMAC, nice update.
CULWULLA March 29th, 2005, 02:52 AM excellent gmac. top shots.
Thor March 29th, 2005, 04:00 AM good shots indeed.. especially the waterfall one :)
just a note.. building numbers and street addresses differ (poor subbies)
3 parklands - building #1
4 parklands - building #2
5 parklands - building #3
6 parklands - building #4

nikko March 29th, 2005, 06:22 AM Great shots.
I'm really liking this developement, a park that INCLUDES some nice buidings to fill the Roma.St area with
Orfeo March 29th, 2005, 06:42 AM Great photos!

Maroon Grown June 16th, 2005, 04:40 AM i like these buildings but i think they will date very quickly. in about 10 years we will be wondering what were they thinking? it hasnt got that lasting appeal in simpistic yet attractive design like waterfront place, CP1, BOQ building etc.

Waterfront Place and CP1 look extremely 1980's - definitely not timeless! But I like them very much anyway, particularly CP1. :)

well then u sorta understand what i mean. 15 years on and they are still some of Brisbane's most attractive buildings
Oriolus July 18th, 2005, 08:04 AM Parklands 6 (Pinnacle) & 7 taken 8/7/05. Second crane on 7 was only taken down a couple of days before.

I reckon they should have covered over Roma St Station when they developed Roma Street Parklands. As it is the station is a barrier between the gardens and the rest of the city. Although I suppose as is Parklands would be a pretty good home for an avid ferroequinologist.

3/379 September 21st, 2005, 01:19 AM From the ABC online news ----
BASE jumper charged over Roma Street plunge
Police have charged a man over a BASE jumping incident at Brisbane's Roma Street Parklands.
It is alleged the 24-year-old from Mt Gravatt leaped from a crane early on Monday morning.
He will appear in court next month.
BASE (buildings, antennas, spans and earth) jumping involves skydiving from a fixed structure, instead of an aircraft.
An Australian BASE jumper died in Norway in July when he opened his parachute too close to the ground.
GMAC October 12th, 2005, 07:26 AM The roof is in the process of going on Pinnacle and painting is well underway on No7. Its all looking fantastic from the Parklands and coming down Countess St.
Muse October 12th, 2005, 10:57 PM Ouwh, missed this thread. I know they're a few months old, but great pics Danubis and Oriolus. Loves it!
New pics though preeeetty puhleeeeease :master:
1_gtar November 7th, 2005, 10:19 AM All the balcony's are now visible and progress on the painting is coming along. Most construction supports on the roovwes are gone.
Orfeo February 18th, 2006, 08:32 AM Both Pinnacle and No 7 have been complete for some time, so could someone update Emporis? No 7 Parkland Boulevard made it all the way through construction without being listed....

Muse February 19th, 2006, 03:35 AM Cheers Orfeo. Had been wondering.
For what they are, they've turned out reasonably well.
Orfeo February 19th, 2006, 03:39 AM ^
Yep.
I couldn't fit them all in, but here is a photo with most of them....

Perfect CBD fringe apartments. Be great (& convenient) to have an abode there.
Danubis June 29th, 2006, 08:46 PM Can this be archived yet?
Oriolus June 4th, 2009, 05:34 AM Heres a slightly brighter photo of Pinnacle and 7 Parklands for the archives - click to enlarge:
