Who selects the picture at the top of the page each day on Skyscraper City forums? Has an image of Birmingham ever appeared? If not, how do we go about getting an image of Birmingham to be used??

Has an image of Birmingham ever appeared? If not, how do we go about getting an image of Birmingham to be used?? Bachy Soletanche March 13th, 2006, 03:28 PM Yes, theres has been one. Wasn't a skyline... I think I put it on the Offical Birmingham Thread 11 or possibly 10. FLD March 13th, 2006, 03:39 PM What image best reflects Birmingham in 2006? The image used at the top is a great advertisement for a city, should we have a mini competition to select the best image of Birmingham to promote the city around the cyber world? ROYAL BLUE March 13th, 2006, 06:06 PM There's been several U475 Foxtrot March 13th, 2006, 06:45 PM What image best reflects Birmingham in 2006? http://i2.tinypic.com/rbd076.jpg liveforever March 13th, 2006, 07:08 PM not too sure about the bloke on either side tho! CargoHold March 13th, 2006, 07:35 PM http://i2.tinypic.com/rbd076.jpg I'd laugh but it's so true it just ain't funny. CH Biosonic March 14th, 2006, 10:23 AM I could cry  blueboy March 14th, 2006, 10:29 AM there's been at least 5 brum banners i think, i did a couple of skyline ones and fusionist did a excellent green hued one! some others have chipped in with some montage banners as well, i think out of all uk cities we ve probably had the most up there! there used to be a brum banner thread, but i think we lost it! i cant remember the link for putting them up there now ? anyone? Brummie Nick March 14th, 2006, 12:22 PM This was my picture/ banner which was on the top of the forum last year. http://i2.tinypic.com/rcm42h.jpg FLD March 14th, 2006, 01:57 PM That's a good one Brummie. blueboy March 14th, 2006, 01:57 PM yeah, i remember that one, any body got any others? , i ll dig mine out later FLD March 14th, 2006, 02:31 PM Could someone submit a revised picture, or should we wait until the scaffolding & plastic sheeting come off the Orion Building??!! Bachy Soletanche March 14th, 2006, 02:49 PM And they've cleaned the City Center Tower.. Built Arena Central... (ar-de-ar-ar) FLD March 14th, 2006, 03:26 PM Are they going to spruce up Centre City Tower? Bachy Soletanche March 14th, 2006, 04:09 PM Apparently. Havn't they started yet? The Fugitive March 14th, 2006, 04:39 PM This should have been used as a future Brum banner... only problem is the building is so unbelievably tall it has to be shown lying on its side... ;) http://tinypic.com/rcpw1y.jpg Bachy Soletanche March 14th, 2006, 04:48 PM Don't like the design. Why, oh why do we always get the second rate? FLD March 15th, 2006, 03:11 PM Centre City Tower still looks pretty dirty, don't think it has had a clean up yet. From a distance, this building doesn't look that impressive, but when you stand underneath it, it seems huge. It is one of the more under-rated buildings in the city centre, if it had a clean up, and perhaps change the glazing, it could look quite smart. U475 Foxtrot March 15th, 2006, 07:04 PM I really like this building even thou it is a big dirty bastard. I may be doing some work in here in the near future so I'll get some shots. Warm yourself on a CCT sunset :) http://i2.tinypic.com/ri6jh0.jpg http://i2.tinypic.com/ri6jkg.jpg http://i2.tinypic.com/ri6jpx.jpg http://i2.tinypic.com/ri6jw8.jpg Engels March 15th, 2006, 11:40 PM City Centre tower is one of the uglyist buildings in the city yet i can't help having some affection for it. I think it is the podium style i quite like it's quite unique in the city now that Post and Mail has gone. Definitly needs a proper reclad. I heard the figure of £5million is to be spent sprucing it up.. is that enough for a Quayside tower style reclad (Broad st after the Hyatt) as that was a complete transformation. FLD March 17th, 2006, 02:32 PM Great shots Foxtrot. This building, when it is cleaned up, should be illuminated .... it it would definately brighten up Smallbrook Queensway on a dismal winter night! FLD March 17th, 2006, 02:34 PM £14 million rings a bell for the sprucing up of Quayside Tower, but that included internal work to the building too. CargoHold March 17th, 2006, 08:20 PM Heres a shot from the back. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c258/cargohold/CCT.jpg Nacho March 17th, 2006, 09:14 PM Nice photos. U475 Foxtrot March 18th, 2006, 01:48 AM I would have thought £5m is a clean, a bit of lighting and a spruce up of common parts The Fugitive March 19th, 2006, 01:03 AM If only you could turn back time eh? This is the Centre City Tower as it appeared in 1984 when I took a picture of it - looking impressively clean and dapper, natch..... http://tinypic.com/rr5po3.jpg Nacho March 19th, 2006, 10:21 AM Nice pic. MD72 March 19th, 2006, 12:46 PM I worked at CCT and the interior of the building was brought up to scratch several years ago. I'd suspect that the £5m is purely for external work. Does anyone know if that would be enough for a reclad? Biosonic March 21st, 2006, 11:42 AM £5m would be enough to replace the windows and clean the concrete, and install some interesting lighting (provided nothing untoward is discovered). Not a reclad I would imagine. Bachy Soletanche March 21st, 2006, 01:01 PM I think I prefer the aged grey to the orginal light brown concreate and Brown windows, or maybe it was just a grey day. Can't see them going back to the orginal 70s look myself. pirlo_21 March 21st, 2006, 03:26 PM i think they just need to put big large windoes, and give it a lick of paint Biosonic March 21st, 2006, 03:53 PM ^^Paint flakes off so is bad. I like the idea of either dark or mirrored windows forming long stripes on the side though - that would look pretty funky. And and night, up-and-downlighters along the channels in the side would really enhance the building. Blunther March 21st, 2006, 04:05 PM Biosonic for Mayor. Biosonic March 21st, 2006, 04:10 PM Arise Sir Blunther ;) Bachy Soletanche March 21st, 2006, 04:21 PM Hmm.. I think I'd like Silver full length Mirrored Windows and the concreat back in it's orginal light, err.. honey, colour. Engels March 21st, 2006, 04:38 PM I'm in an argumentative mood today.. i really don't like the way this tower looks it needs a complete re-clad. I do like the basic shape, but that's about it. If it just gets a clean and a bit of lighting it'll never be enough, it'll still be brutal and ugly and awful at street level - especially at the rear.. Bachy Soletanche March 21st, 2006, 04:45 PM I like it at street level, I think it fits in well with concrete curvey thing over the road and err. Norfolk House (?) next to it. I like the vertical stripes, I like the podium,I just wish the tower bit was, 5 stories or so, a bit taller. But then, what do I know, just look at my Avatar thingy! The Fugitive March 23rd, 2006, 12:42 AM The weird thing is, if you stand on Hinckley Street looking right up at it, it looms massively and appears to be much taller than the Rotunda (which itself isn't that high and yet is listed as 15 feet taller than CCT) at such close quarters. Appreciably taller than the 250 feet height it is supposed to be.This to me is the best view even though the street is a bleak back-alley sort of place. The CCT really dominates here - in a similar way to how Manchester's Sunley Tower dominates Parker Street when you crane your neck upwards at it. |
