Saudi guy July 14th, 2007, 11:47 PM sorry i dont know, but my friends all of theme have both Mobily and Etisalat! Saudi guy August 5th, 2007, 09:13 AM loool funny article :D http://www.arabnews.com/2007/08/jpl5.jpg A view of the sorry state of the inside of the Jeddah Public Library. (AN photo by Ebtihal Mubarak) EDDAH, 5 August 2007 — No one in the neighborhood seemed to know the exact location of the Jeddah Public Library. Arab News roamed around for 45 minutes to find the pale yellow-and-white building with its broken windows that surely did not look like a house of knowledge. At last we managed to get to the main gate of the library, but that proved of no avail as our entry was still blocked. The guard told us it was closed and the entrance to the library is from the gate at the back. Not a single sign led us to the mysterious back entrance that was almost hidden by overgrown bushes and trees. Finally a rusty lonely sign welcomed us: “Jeddah Public Library”. There was no sign of life in that deserted area behind the old Saudi TV and radio building, except for three cars parked in front of the back entrance. On entering the building, an empty dusty desk welcomed the knowledge-seekers in a dark corridor. A huge children’s picture blocked the stairs. A printed-paper sign attached to the wall indicated that the staircase led to the theater. Silence pervaded the place. Two doors at the end of the corridor — one at the left and the other at the right — was the only possible way to go. The door on the left had a sign that said “Children’s Books” while on our right no signs were seen at all. But there was light coming out from under the right door. Instinct told us to follow the light for that might lead to some books at the end of the tunnel. The door opens to a huge room where two men were sitting at their desks at the corner of the hall. “Where are the books?” “Here follow me,” said one of the men. He led us to another bigger hall centered by a big counter, one computer, a big signing-in record book, a broken copying machine and shelves with some books and magazines. “Yes, but where are the books?” The man pointed his finger up and said they were in the second and third floors. We looked up and finally we saw the books. Walking the stairs to the first floor we saw all the encyclopedia and thick reference books. On the third floor were all the arts, history and geography and science books. The air conditioning was not working on both floors, which were covered with dust and dirt. The books were scattered all over the place: on the desks, the deserted counters, on the floor, on the trolleys, on the corridors and halls, in boxes. The heat and the amount of dust that covered the whole place made it impossible to stay inside for very long. The only air movement in the large hall came from a tiny fan at one end. When asked when or if the library would ever be turned into, well, a library people would use, the response from librarian Ibrahim Al-Khuraif was: “Inshallah, things will be better...Talk to the administration in Riyadh. We don’t talk to the press.” Al-Khuraif was helpful enough to guide Arab News to the Saudi literature section. We told him we wanted to see the modern literature section. “All Saudi literature is modern,” he said, smiling. Reaching the section, we could not find a single contemporary novel, poetry collection or collection of short stories. The collection seemed mainly to comprise obscure works of social criticism published in the 70s and the 80s. Arab News asked Al-Khuraif to provide a book on domestic violence. He left for a few minutes and returned with some small paperbacks that looked, telling from their covers, to have been published in the 70s. “That’s what we have on women,” he said. One of the books read like a primitive user’s manual on how to deal with women. “Women use their feminine wiles in all ways to seduce men,” the book said, adding that women are guided by only two emotions: One for men and one for children. Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Abdul Aziz Al-Sebail said the Jeddah library, as well as others, are on the to-do list for renovation. Two years ago the public library system was moved to the administration of the Ministry of Culture and Information. Before that the Ministry of Education handled the library system. He said there are so many things that have to be kept in mind concerning the Jeddah library. “The strength of librarians there has to be boosted and the budget increased,” he said. “All these require time.” When we asked him about the poor state of hygiene in the library — we found only one part-time worker to take care of the cleaning of the whole building — he said: “We hired a private establishment to take care of the cleaning and the maintenance but the Labor Ministry sometimes slows down their work by delaying recruitment of manpower.” Arab News managed to get into the seminar and theater hall whose entrance was blocked with a huge wooden poster. It was no better than the rest of the building; the hall was covered with dust, the equipment at the backstage were facing the broken windows. “There will be a quick renovation process to the theater in the next few weeks, that will be the first step,” said the deputy minister. “The theater will be used for all sorts of cultural activities.” After visiting the library on three different days and at different times last week, we did not notice any change. We saw the same books on the same desks, carelessly scattered. In the bathroom a pigeon was resting on a nest that had been built on the toilet. Sdare March 9th, 2008, 08:52 AM Hyundai and SABIC Innovative Plastics Honored with Award Hyundai Motor Europe and SABIC Innovative Plastics have jointly won the iF Product Design Award 2008 for the QarmaQ Advanced Technology Demonstration Vehicle. The Hyundai QarmaQ Advanced Technology Demonstration Vehicle (ATDV) has been selected as a winner of the International Forum (iF) Product Design Awards 2008 for Advanced Studies, which honors experimental drafts of products and studies that have not yet been implemented. Hyundai Motor Europe and SABIC Innovative Plastics, co-developers of the QarmaQ, jointly won the award, which is being presented today at the Hannover, Germany Exhibition Grounds. For 54 years, the iF design award has served as an internationally recognized trademark for outstanding design. This award attests to the effectiveness of SABIC Innovative Plastics’ strategy of working side-by-side with customers to help them deliver business success. Key criteria for selecting the QarmaQ ATDV included design quality, choice of materials, degree of innovation, environmental compatibility, functionality, and safety. For example, the concept of the “Elastic Front” safety system featured on the QarmaQ can help reduce the risk of severe injuries in CUV pedestrian collisions. Design innovations included panoramic wrap-around glazing using SABIC Innovative Plastics’ Lexan* polycarbonate resin. Through the use of thermoplastic materials, QarmaQ designers were given greater expressive freedom to create complex three-dimensional shapes that could not have been achieved with conventional production methods or materials. Safety, Design Freedom, and Environmental Goals were Achieved The QarmaQ was developed with three key goals in mind: * To demonstrate the concept of a pedestrian friendly crossover utility vehicle (CUV) design with the “Elastic Front” passive pedestrian protection concept from SABIC Innovative Plastics. * To enable design and styling freedom through the use of innovative plastic materials. * To create a CUV that would reduce greenhouse emissions. Thanks to weight reduction through the use of plastics, the QarmaQ reached its environmental goals. GreenOrder, an environmental strategy firm based in New York, N.Y. that audited the QarmaQ, estimated that the 60 kilograms that have been taken out of the QarmaQ means the vehicle would require about 80 fewer liters of diesel per year, and would cut annual greenhouse gas emissions by more than 200 kilograms. The QarmaQ is among the 821 prizewinning entries in the 2008 iF product design competition that will have materials on display in Pavilion 36 and at the Information Center on the exhibition grounds. These prizewinners will also be part of iF’s online exhibition and 2008 Yearbook. * Trademark of SABIC Innovative Plastics. http://www.jobwerx.com/images/sabic-949760-hyundai-qarmaq-hr.jpg wI3XaVXRVMw  LeB.Fr March 10th, 2008, 03:12 PM Am I the only one living in Riyadh here??? The series is due to be released for the first time ever on DVD in March 2008. Plans begin in the U.K. where the unedited full 39 episodes will be released on 3 double-DVD sets with 13 episodes each (1-13, 14-26 and 27-39). They will be in a standard DVD case with a card outer wrap, a booklet inside with episode details and possibly a poster. The show will then be released on DVD in the USA later in 2008, and also in Australia. Fabulous Films is about to begin picture and sound restoration in London, and also plans to interview episode writer Jean Chalopin for this release and compile other extras as well. The Mysterious Cities of Gold (often abbreviated as MCoG) is an animated television series which originally aired in Japan on NHK (the national public broadcaster) in 1982, and in France and Belgium in 1983 on Antenne 2. It aired in the United States for years on the Nickelodeon cable network in the latter part of the 1980s, in Australia on the public broadcaster ABC at about the same time (considered a Classic ABC program), and twice in the United Kingdom on Children's BBC, in 1986/87 and 1989. It also was shown on TV2 in New Zealand and several other countries. In the year 1532, a Spanish orphan named Esteban joins a party of Spaniards in their search for one of The Seven Cities of Gold in the New World, hoping to find his father. He is joined on his quest by Zia, an Incan girl, and Tao, the last descendant of the sunken empire of Mu ("Hiva" in the English dub). The series is a mix of ancient South American history, archaeology, and science fiction. The characters discover many lost technological wonders of the Mayans, Inca, and Olmecs, including a solar powered ship (the Solaris) and The Golden Condor, a huge solar-powered airship, capable of traveling considerable distances under the sun's power alone. They are constantly pursued by antagonists Gomez and Gaspard, who are also in search of the Cities of Gold. The Cities of Gold, of which there are seven, were built by the Emperor of Mu out of fear of a global war which would destroy civilization. Such a war indeed broke out, destroying the empires of Mu and Atlantis when they used the "weapons of the sun" (implied to be thermonuclear weapons). The Seven Cities of Gold hold copies of books in their "Universal Libraries" as well as powerful artifacts, including the "Great Legacy", a portable fusion reactor. Other elements of this technology turn up in unexpected places, like the Solaris in Tao's home island, Esteban's and Zia's medallions as keys to the Cities, or Tao's jar as an important piece of the Great Legacy. The new service will target people living in single-family homes and low-rise apartment buildings. The traffic speeds will be the fastest in eastern Japan, up drastically from the current 100 megabits per second. With the service, KDDI aims to catch up with Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp, which has a share of over 70% in the market for fiber-optic broadband services for single-family houses. KDDI will charge 5,985 yen in basic monthly fees for Internet and telephone services, down 1,155 yen from the current price, if a user subscribes for two consecutive years. KDDI will start offering its fiber-optic services, which are now available only in six prefectures in the Kanto region and nearby Yamanashi Prefecture, in four cities in the northern prefecture of Hokkaido. ------- and check out what Americans saying about this, they feel Jealously what should we say about our services in Saudi Arabia:lol: http://gizmodo.com/5055965/1gbps-fiber+optic-service-arrives-in-japan-on-october-1 Sources gizmodo.com (http://gizmodo.com/5055965/1gbps-fiber+optic-service-arrives-in-japan-on-october-1) japantoday.com (http://www.japantoday.com/category/technology/view/kddi-to-launch-1gbps-fiber-optic-service-in-oct) Sdare September 29th, 2008, 09:45 PM thanks BG and Happy Eid everyone (Sad Eid for me :D : 1 test and 1 quiz at the same day!) The father answered: "Well sugar, many years ago there were monkeys, and we evolved from them." The confused girl returns to her mother and says: "Mommy, how is it that you told me that the human race was created by God and Daddy says we came from monkeys?" Copies of the Quran and prayer carpets have also been provided to these mosques. Three expert groups of technicians will work around the clock to ensure no breakdown of the infrastructure including electricity and water, Saudi Gazette reported. Abdul-Rahman Al-Hazemy, Director of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs branch in Makkah, said the ministry has completed the emergency exit project in Nimrah Mosque in Arafat. Electricity cables in womens bathrooms at Miqat Al-Sail Al-Kabir have been laid at a cost of around SR675,000 (RM652,955). According to Al-Hazemy, the ministrys projects include rebuilding a number of rooms and passes in Al-Kheef Mosque in Mina, as well as paving the roads for Miqat Al-Jehafa at Rabeigh. Besides the restoration work in Nimrah Mosque, the eastern yards of Arafat, and Al-Meshar Al-Haram Mosque in Muzdalifah, a small apartment has been built next to Al-Kheef Mosque for imams," said Al-Hazemy. "We will collect all the old Quran copies and replace them with new ones published at King Fahd Quran Printing Complex in Madinah. To avoid overcrowding and congestion, increasing the number of mosques in holy sites was a priority. Addressing this issue, the ministry has built 150 new mosques in these areas, the official said. The ministry has assigned about 880 imams in the holy areas during the Hajj season. Each mosque will have a religious scholar besides the imam, Al-Hazemy said. -- BERNAMA Saudi guy December 5th, 2008, 08:01 PM i hope you like the new format of projects section :) leetroy December 5th, 2008, 10:47 PM thanx bro Saudi guy December 6th, 2008, 06:49 PM do anyone here addict to chocolates? prices now up 0.5 SR snickers is 2.5 SR,Mars 2.5 SR and so on except twix still keeping same price two bars only 2 SR!!! i wondering do we really have consumers rights department?i can't find one reason to raise prices! The Pharaoh January 3rd, 2009, 04:23 PM Because, Robo Boss, Riyadh in Arabic is pronounced and written in a heavier letter than D. So, the H was added to make it heavier than a plain D. Rabigh as well! carbonated.brainiac January 3rd, 2009, 09:20 PM ^^^^ thats sensefull robo_boss January 4th, 2009, 09:03 AM Because, Robo Boss, Riyadh in Arabic is pronounced and written in a heavier letter than D. So, the H was added to make it heavier than a plain D. Does that make sense, guyz? :? Yes it does, but i thought 2 D's at the end would do the same job that would probably make more sense. Sorry im wrong , i just never knew how to pronounce the combination of a D and an H. The Pharaoh January 4th, 2009, 11:57 AM Actually, Robo, that's where you're mistaken. A double D (Yeah, Double D! Let out the jokes, you know you want to ) is pronounced "stressed" upon. However, the DH combination is pronounced "heavy". When you pronounce the double D, your tongue is at the same position when you pronounce a single D. When you pronounce the DH combo, your tongue is supposed to be more up against your mouth ceiling. Seriously, I think I started blabling incomprehensibly... Excuse me for that!!! Sdare January 4th, 2009, 06:11 PM then how can we write a heavy "th"? thh? ظ Riyathh :D The Pharaoh January 5th, 2009, 07:19 AM ^^ Now, you're just being a smarta**!!!
