I dont fancy new mosques that were built in Bosnia and I also think it's a waste of money (mosques are usually empty save the Bajrams),

Really! In most other Islamic coutries you can't really have enough mosques, they are full 5 times a day and most of them on Fridays if you are a little late you have to pray in the street because the mosque would be full.

Although I agree that the historic mosques in Turkey are the best, some of those modern ones are kind of cute. I'd rather have completely modern ones or modern designs with some Turkish/Ottoman features than some of the ones that try to completely replicate the historic designs (Maltepe, Kocatepe, Sabanci mosques etc).

I agree, same of the replicas are just cheep imitations, but I think some like the Kocatepe Mosque are nice examples of neo-Ottoman architecture. The modern ones which use too much glass I find tasteless, new mosques even if not built entirely on classical designs should retain some degree of traditional design in them.

I'm going to keep my opinion about Islam to myself, but I can't deny the fact that these mosques are beautiful!
However, I don't really like the Bangladeshi mosques. They look like a Pakistani bus lol :lol:

^^you are entitled to your opinion.

- A mosque is a mosque - they deserve the same respect, whether they are from bangladesh or some other place - made of mud or they are gold guilded.

- If you haven't noticed already - design of a mosque is always influenced by local culture and taste of the locals...... and bangladeshis love colours. that's why are mosques are so colourful.

- Honestly - I don't find that Pakistani bus funny either.

yep...:yes: this surely looks like Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta (the largest mosque in South East Asia - can accomodate around 50,000 worshippers)... i remember coming here for tarawih prayers a few years back. unfortunately because i came late most of the spaces in the lower floors have been filled up with and we all had to go to the upper levels to find space...:nuts: but i really enjoyed the night bazaar held here every night during ramadhan...

actually it's not a mirror, just some decorations they placed on the ceiling... yep those edges are balconies to accomodate worshippers...:yes:

did you know that this mosque is located only 1km away from the main intercity railway station of Jakarta...? when i was praying tarawih there as well there were sounds of trains passing by almost every 10-15 minutes...:nuts:

Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates and the sixth largest mosque in the world.

The design of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque has been inspired by Mughal and Moorish mosque architecture, the Badshahi Mosque in Lahore and the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca being direct influences. The dome layout and floorplan of the mosque was inspired by the Badshahi Mosque and the architecture was inspired by both Mughal and Moorish design, particularly the Badshahi Mosque and the Hassan II Mosque. Its archways are quintessentially Moorish and its minarets classically Arab. The design of the mosque can be best described as a fusion of Arab, Mughal and Moorish architecture.

The Mosque is large enough to accommodate 40,000 worshippers. The main prayer hall can accommodate up to 9,000 worshippers. Two rooms next to the main prayer hall, with a 1,500-capacity each, are for the exclusive use of women.

There are four minarets on the four corners of the mosque which rise about 115 m (380 ft) in height. There are 57 domes covering the outside yard and the main building as well. The domes are decorated with white marble and the interior decoration is made of marble. The courtyard is paved with floral marble designs and measures about 17,000 m2 (180,000 sq ft).

Yes it is an Ahamadiyyah mosque it is located around the outskirts of Toronto.

The largest muslim group in Canada is Sunnah with approximately 700,000 of roughly 800,000 muslims.

Who designed the interior of these domes?

I truly cannot fathom how they built such intricate artwork without computers and machinery. I also have not seen artwork of this caliber in modern architecture.

About the crescent. I remember there was a debate about it being a symbol of Islam (as a religion) or not. Belgians claimed (by reading information about it) it was not the same as a cross was for christians and that is was more of cultural thing (and thus is not needed to be put everywhere since it has nothing to do with islam as a religion). But our muslims seem to give grate value to the crescent in a kind of religious way, so well yeah...let them have it I guess.
