I am doing a research project for my university class on the coverage of the Revoked Qatari Citizenships that occured last year. The project is for me to discuss in detail why Al Jaeera did not cover the events as quickly or as in depth as Al Arabiya did. I have read the Thread on it here (http://skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=197808), but any extra information anyone could give me on the topic would be appreciated. I am allowed to use blogs, arab web sites (though I can not read arabic), forums, and personal opinions as references.

Al-Arabiya channel is biased when it comes to reporting coverage coming from Qatar since it, sometimes wrongly, publishes false information. I have seen many instances where the channel publishes false information, information that is unnesseaily worded, biased info, and misprounciation of Qatari government officials. That is partly because of the tension between Qatar and Saudi (which owns Al-Arabiya).

Why would you think that Al-Jazeera should pay attention to Al-Ghufran trial and not any other trials in the country? This shouldn't even be broadcasted by Al-Arabiya news channel. I think they just sought after spreading a dreadful image of Qatar for some reason or another. The thing is that the Gov. of Qatar has all the rights in the world to do what they did. These people have done something illegitimate by acquiring a dual citizenship for their own personal benefit and they can't run with impunity. I think it is very normal to expect a punishment if you break the law.

Well this story is history. The Amir annouced three weeks ago that they will all recieve their Qatari citizenships back and they have all been pardoned. They should count thier lucky stars. Personally, and sorry if this is harish, i say to hell with them. You are either qatari or your bloodi not. In this time and day you should know who u r and where you belong. Flashing urself as saudi while you enjoy all the benefits of qatar wont work .... if ur too proud to be from somewhere else while you enjoy the benefits of being qatari.. than ur simply not worthy of being qatari..

So it is all over? No one here would happen to know where I could find an article on that online would they? And I wouldn't have expected them to get their citizenships back like that either, I agree one shouldn't flaunt being a citizen of one nation, while reaping the benefits of another citizenship. That's disrespectful to both nations and shows that the person has no honor being who they are. Being a dual citizen is one thing, but abusing the rights to citizenship is another.

hmm, well the inflated articles would actually be good because the point of the project is to show the bias of the different media groups especially Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya

----9a7 allah lsanik... Totally agree... but the Amir said from the begining--choose one or the other but not both.. Many people dropped their Saudi passports in favor of the Qatari ones. Still others kept it.

alarabiya is owned by saudi-kuwaiti-lebanese group of businessmen. the manager of the station is the saudi prominent journalist, abdulraham alrashed. most of the staff are lebanese, with righ-wing views, who worked before in the lebanese channel, LBC.
words on the streets that those lebanese staff were/still members of the notorious part, al-ktaeb (phalangist).

in my opinion, i think alarabiya is one of the best news channels in the midlle east. very professional from A to Z.

Interesting. So was al-Arabiya a GCC endeavor (Gulf Cooperation Council)? Because so far I have seen listed Sauds, Bahrainis, and Kuwaitis and al-Arabiya is located in the UAE.

I think both of them have their share of bisay, Al Jazeera picks on Saudi Arabia and Al Arabiya picks on Qatar.

but I do prefer Al Jazeera to Al Arabiya.

I dont think that I should share my view about what happened :D

I think the media here (in this reigon) is like the gossips going around in a secondary girls' school. One reason why I lost interest in these channels at all
