vietnam 2nd fastest growing economy in the world?

does anyone here from canada and watch yesterday (Sunday) CBC global news? (Canada national broadcast news channel 25)

if I remember correctly they said: VN is currently the second fastest gorwing economy in the world and are on the way to become the next leading power in the world market. the wolrd is comming to Vn to take advantage of the new oppotunity and prosperity something somehting crap.....and canada wants a piece of that prosperity too as we have some kind of summit next week

I was in awe when I watched that......VN? my VN is to become the next super power?
then they showed a clip of bennghe canal and the junks and cau ong lanh bridge and said: still the infrastructure of the country is very poor ......then I said Okay hehe

VIETNAM!! that is awesome, well its not that hard to believe if u consider the facts: A VERY! young, educated, diligent, hardworking.... i could go on forever. juss look at the values we grew up with, hehe, well most of us. but the important part is the hardworking, young, educated and a well built set-of-values

I wish those are true. VN is the 2nd fastest growing economy in Asia after China but not the world. Even 2nd in Asia, VN is still an aid recipient. It will take a long time for VN to stand on her own feet and use her middle finger. I am not pessimistic but realistic.

i really dont understand why they always say that VN is the 2nd fastest growin,coz there r still many countries got higher growin rate (Macau for example).Even Singapore last year got 8%.Besides,1% of Thailand or Malaysia = 4-5% of VN.

Ngoại trưởng Malaysia tỏ ý tin tưởng về triển vọng phát triển kinh tế Việt nam và cho rằng quốc gia Đông Nam Á này sẽ trở thành con rồng của Châu Á trong vòng 5 năm tới đây.

Theo tường thuật của hãng thông tấn Pháp, ngoại trưởng Syed Hamid Albar cho biết như thế hôm thứ năm khi ông đến Hà nội để tham dự kỳ họp lần thứ tư của Ủy ban hỗn hợp Việt nam–Malaysia.

Ngoại trưởng Albar cho rằng Việt nam sẽ trở thành một trong những nền kinh tế thành công nhất vì có đủ mọi yếu tố để thành công như sắp sửa trở thành hội viên của Tổ chức Thương mại Thế giới, có nền kinh tế cởi mở, và có một khối dân làm việc siêng năng.

Ông Albar đã hội kiến ngoại trưởng Nguyễn Dy Niên, và theo dự kiến đôi bên sẽ thảo luận về những phương cách nhằm gia tăng thêm nữa kim ngạch mậu dịch song phương, vốn đã đạt tới mức 2 tỉ 200 triệu đô la trong năm 2005.

Bên cạnh đó, các giới chức cao cấp của Hà nội và Kuala Lumpur cũng sẽ bàn về các vấn đề an ninh và chính trị, kể cả cách xử lý của khối Asean đối với những vấn đề liên quan tới chính quyền quân nhân Miến điện.

Vị ngoại trưởng của Malaysia cũng cho biết chính phủ ông muốn xem xét về khả năng tăng cường hợp tác với Việt nam trong vùng biển Nam Hải, kể cả việc thực hiện những cuộc khảo sát chung và tiến hành những dự án khai thác chung các tài nguyên trong khu vực này.

The potential for Vietnam is immense. Having a hardworking, diligent and intelligent population with a thirst for knowledge and success, a country that is strategically located and blessed with vital resources needed for economic and national development, a stable political scene (with a government that I'm not very fond of) and a clear objective, if the Vietnamese people work as one to successfully integrate into the global economy then we will surely be able to make up for those lost years, speed ahead of our neighbors and shine on the international stage.

The time has come for Vietnam to stand up and show the world what our heroic country and people are capable of.

that what struck me
I always assumed if we are growing fast but only compare to the asian countries......but on the news I remember i heard clearly "the world" and nothing about "asia"
they said "this communist country is embracing capitalism economy and is moving on the fast lane.........."
but ya know, move with caution, we stand up now, but ya don;t know when we catch SARS or bird flu and we have to sit down.

still the news sounds kind of nice compare to few years back all you hear about VN is Vn is a country of war, Vn suffers natural disaster etc...
it's only in the early 90s when you watch "lonely planet" that Vn was viewed as a poor country with an income of $400 and people in the countryside lived on only a fraction of that amount.

im 100% shure during the late 90s vietnam was second cuz it was lik 8%, i think right now they r second in the world, i think the cellular fone growth we r second too. basically everything we r second at we r after china

we hav plenty of models to luk at (hinthint: china), so we better do it right... well luk at the progress, best example, we went from importing rice from india becuz ppl were starving, now we r the second or first largest exporter of rice

i hope there is more good stuff coming this year for vietnam:entrance into WTO, The Asia-Pacific meeting later this year hosted in vietnam of course... bush is coming(i dont really lik him though) anyways, the big economies r gonna be there

im not really sure if entering in the WTO will be a very good think for vietnam... if everythink goes on like in china, damn.... there are still a lot of differences beetwen all the provinces and beetwen the poor and the rich, and i bet they will increase like in China... let vietnam take the time it needs to enter in WTO, no rush is good...

as time increases, enterting WTO will be also harder, and countries will require more rules for new country to enter.. if it only hurts vietnam 20% now, entering it in next 5 year will hurt Vietnam 80%.

There are risks and benifits into joining WTO, but the benefits out weigh the risks. The earlier VN joins the WTO the better (e.g. textile quotas). Joining the WTO will draw in much more foreign direct investments b/c they know their investments would be protected. India is the world's 2nd fastest growing economy.
