Cool, my father was just talking about it.. but i dont think it is such a good idea since Doha is currently undergoing tremendous growth.

yeah, i agree with u. doha should remain the capital, and after the asian games are over, we should start a serious make-over of the city.

the guys is talking out of his hehe..
i know all about the plan..ive seen some.. amazing.. basically its a remake of the whole doha city... the idea is that from c-ring inwards they will turn it into a downtown area... and the remaining will be residantial or something like that.

A remake of the city of Doha sounds very exciting. But making a new city for the capital sounds scary. If it happens, then what's gonna happen to Doha! Become a ghost city like Detroit?

^^ well its not going to be nice, i like Doha. Plus Doha is not THAT huge either. you can always build north near the Ritz and make "a new capital" or perhaps make Lusail the new capital (my prediction)... WHO KNOWS??

in today's newspapers, a press release from the urban planing authority, says that the general manager's statement regarding changing the capital, was mis-quoted by the press (as usual).
now, apparently, we're in qatar are good in taking our words back & blame it on the media. doesn't that remind you of the director of traffic departement, when he said that one of the causes of accidents in qatar is bad women drivers, and he took his words back just the next day, claiming the he was mis-quoted by the media?

Well, I heard while ago that Al-Rayyan was considered to be the new capital. the Emir is already building an Emiri Diwan there, but is it feasible since the infrastructure is not that good there. What do you guys think? Should they move the capital or keep it where it is?

i think the emiri diwan u'r refering to as being built in rayyan is the private diwan " diwan almusa3dat/alkhas", probably instead of the current one in rayyan road, which i think will be demolished to make way for the rayyan road expansion plan.
besides, who needs "musa3adat" anymore? albarkah fi alboursah :)

I was going to suggest that u build a 'New Doha' on the west coast, closer to Bahrain and the new causeway that will link us :) But i see it was just a mis-quote
wakrah-wi-bas
March 27th, 2006, 03:17 AM
speaking of the link, khalid albu3aneen, a bahraini member of the municipal council, said in akhbar alkhaleej newspaper last saturday, that the foundation stone for the link between qatar & bahrain, will be laid begining of '07.
they're now waiting for the exact date to be anouncecd during the next joint meeting of the crown princes of both countries.
let's wait, ish wrana!

capital change will be the best thing ever for Qatar if Qatar wants all over development and not only in doha. The best thing would be like holland. Amsterdam is the tourism center, The Hague is the Governmental center with the international court and the government and stuff and Utrecht and Rotterdam are business centers. Spread your resources!

Well this is why they are rebuilding the poor infrastructures of outer cities, espically alkhor and alwakra. By building better schools, hospitals, roads and other facilities people will slowly move out of doha and into the smaller cities of Qatar. This will allow doha to catch a breath.
Besides I hardly doubt anyone wants to live in doha any more. Seriously if you get the chance to build a house would you want to build it in doha. Us for one have moved out completely from doha and to um abriyah around um sallal area. Nothing but stray goats and camels !!

You're absolutely correct. But as for me, personally, I am a city kind of guy. By the way, Losail and all the development are considered outside of Doha. Losail is actually close to the Umm Slal and Um abriyah area just on the other side of the North Road highway and a further down. However, there are no access roads to each areas, which makes it seem far--but in reality they are close.
