PCK March 25th, 2006, 10:44 AM hey v guys always wonder which city in south asia has the best cars on the road in general???? i'll start off wth colombo PCK March 25th, 2006, 10:51 AM there are abt 800,000 ppl in colombo n smetimes it seems tht there are more cars thn ppl!!!! u gt jap vechiles mostly and indian motorcycles and tuk-tuks..bt u also get lots of european n sme american vechiles on the road. from nissan, toyota, mitsubsihi, honda to peugeot, volkswagen, audi, porsche (even 2 ferraris)...to Jeep, Chrysler...u gt evrythin here. most of the jap cars are modified n made into drag-racing cars for those who have a need for speed although its illegal, u'd gt many of them racing up n down streets in the dead of nite n if ur lucky enough u'd probably see a cop trying to chase them down! visit autolanka.com to gt sme pics of drag-racing. there r sme more sites n i'll hook thm on the thread later. ryanr March 25th, 2006, 10:19 PM Toyota and Mitsubishi are the leading brands in the Philippines. Followed by Honda, Isuzu, Ford and Nissan. As for luxury brands, BMW has close to 50% market share followed by Volvo, Mercedes and Audi. Philippine roads is one of the most "americanized" in Asia, since you see quite a lot of Ford, Chevy and Dodge trucks and SUVs. Ford being the most popular. Then of course, the streets are still filled with the Philippine jeepney and tricycles. The cars of the common Filipino are Altis, Civic, Vios, City, Innova, Revo (Kijang in Indonesia), Crosswind (Panther in Indo), Adventure (aka Kuda in Indo), Fortuner, CR-V, X-Trail, Escape, RAV4, Lancer, Sentra and Mazda 3. Then you get a lot of Camrys, Accords, Cefiros, 3 series, etc. Upper class families usually buy Ford Expedition (so many of them!), Mitsu Pajero, Toyota Landcruiser, Nissan Patrol, BMW X5, Lincoln Navigator, etc as their second car. As for exotics, there are many, many Porsches. Rich Filipinos seem to love Porsche. Then there are 2 Lamborghini Murcielago (that i know of) in Metro Manila. There is also a good number of Ferraris, other Lamborghinis, Nissan Skyline, etc. No Enzo and SLR yet, though (that i know of, they may be hiding in a garage somewhere). But there is a McLaren F1.:) Quite a lot of "ricers" in the Philippines too. Civics, Sentras, Corollas are popular choices. There is also a big Mitsubishi EVO and Subaru STi crowd. btw, Drag Racing sucks! Many people (esp innocent commuters and bystanders) are killed all over the world. ryanr March 25th, 2006, 10:54 PM In Indonesia, Toyota almost totally dominates. It wont be Indonesia if you dont see a Toyota Kijang or Innova on the street. There are also lots of Isuzu Panthers and Mitsubishi Kuda. Then, like the Philippines you get a lot of Altis, Vios, X-Trail, Civic, City, Camry, etc. Luxury sector is diverse and evenly divided with BMW and Mercedes on top. You also get a lot of grey market imports such as Toyota Harrier, Alphard, etc. Unlike the Philippines, American brands arent big in Indonesia. But European brands like Peugeot are more abundant. Lots of motorcycles zig zagging through Jakarta traffic too. Manila is different as there arent that many motorcycles. Naga_Solidus March 26th, 2006, 05:40 AM In India, you usually find...Indian, Japanese, and Korean cars battling it out for road space, competing with Indian and Japanese motorbikes and scooters. European vehicles are quite rare here, due to their high price and India's ridiculously high car tax (120%-180%). PCK March 26th, 2006, 01:03 PM car tax in sl for super luxury vechiles like the new BMW's n Mercedes are a whooping 200% but you still get ppl queing up in lines....hw abt tht!!!! crazy! Bertez April 1st, 2006, 02:45 AM When I was in Colombo, Toyota owned the van market.....almost all of them were Hi-Aces:D magestom May 3rd, 2006, 04:14 AM Many cars are small. Here are some in parking lot in Mall in India http://i3.tinypic.com/wt7fih.jpg Hyndai is the biggest I think! It is for foreign companies. They were the first foreign company to take a chance with India. Toyota came in later. Did good with there SUV like car. I've seen quite a bit of Toyota Innovas in Bangalore. Acura is so popular because it is affordable yet classy. It is also easy to obtain acura parts (http://www.car-stuff.com/acuraparts.htm) as well. wino July 26th, 2011, 08:50 AM even here in Canada..
