Can someone post photos of the Beltline Neighbourhoods development, such as that large River-something development that has good retail forming, apparently? Photos of all that would be great.

As well, could we see a downtown/central Calgary phototour as well, please?

I see Calgary as an emerging second Toronto, a really built-up, exciting world city, and I wish we saw more photos.

Thanks a million,

I have construction photos of specific beltline developments, but haven't been on a full photo tour in a while. There are some awesome threads (especially those by Kilgore Trout) on SSP in the City Photos section.

There are lots of Beltline, Downtown, and other inner-city shots in there. Hopefully you are familiar with the city and can distinguish the two from pictures.

Thank you so much... as well, Boris, do you know if you could help me find some pictures of downtown Calgary around Christmastime? I thought that sometime this winter people posted shots of people doing Christmas shopping downtown, and it was beautiful, and showed the excitement building in downtown Calgary...

any shots like this would be nice.
thanks again,

Ooh, now that's a tougher one. I'm pretty sure that SSP has some of the best shots of Calgary anywhere, so it might be hard to find anything you can't see in those links about Christmas-time in Calgary.

Uh-oh, you've done it now... give it a few hours and KGB will be in here ranting about this line.

Yeah - I wouldn't say an "emerging second TO", very different cities, and still only a fifth of the size...but in my opinion, beautiful nonetheless.

Here's some shots I took over the winter...not a lot, but hopefully helps:

Around Dec 28th - overcast, but still not too bad outside. Looking from the north on Crescent Hill:

And pics from early february - nice day, about 17c downtown:

The much debated Penny-Lane strip on 8th Ave...

New downtown west-end condos from Millenium Park - the largest "skate" park in North America a couple years ago (not sure if it still is)...

Down 8th Ave at the Bay...

Beltline condos going up. Vantage and Stella from Millenium Park.

p.s. I don't know where my Calgary obsession came from, but hey, I'm enjoying it, so who cares :P

Okay, the first thread you put in that list was EXACTLY what I was looking for... you rock!

I love how Calgary is so... I don't know, everything just looks so clean and tasteful, compared to other cities. We all like grit now and then, and cluttered-looking areas too, but there are other cities for that.

I think Calgary is definitely a city that has emerged quicker than anyone could have imagined... and it may be sprawling and suburban, but what a fantastic, dense downtown! I'm impressed!!! It looks like people enjoy going downtown, and the C-Train is just wonderful.

The Asian population looks to be quite present in Calgary, and that I wasn't aware of. Thanks for helping me out... I love your city!

Your shots of Houston seemed eerily similar to Calgary - other than the coastal shot. How similar does it feel to walk their streets?

Houston's downtown doesn't feel as alive as Calgary's, and the LRT there is still very young and is very limited in its length. The corporate feel is similar, but I think there is more to do in our core, in terms of shopping, entertainment, and cultural facilities. Some of the towers in Houston are awesome though.

Galveston is a totally different feel altogether, and I don't think I can put a useful comparison to Calgary.

I am always so impressed with Calgary. Even though I live far away in Ontario, I am still proud that it is a Canadian city.
