I haven't posted much of anything over here in recent months due to the overwhelmingly large number of trolls and jackesses who frequent this site, but I'll post these pics anyhow.

Apologies in advance about the quality of some these...as some were taken through thick glass.

Please ignore those who annoy you. They will eventually fade away.

You are one of the few photographers that do Shanghai justice.

I love the place. It keeps me feeling insignificant on a daily basis, realising how those countless millions stacked atop each other may share the same dreams and memories as I do.

have to say... shanghais looking more and more developed. certain pics in this selection makes it look like a city in a first world country. i must say that once chinese ppl learn to invest in driers instead of having all their clothes airing out from poles sticking out from their balconies or windows, chinese cities would look a hell of a lot prettier

Not just that. They have to invest in central air conditioning too.

Terrible? I think that's the word you're looking for. They will be moldy, dilapidated messes covered in dripping rust from air conditioners. Maintenance is nonexistent on most of these towers. Hallways inside are often dark and covered in graffiti since many buildings have no management, just tenants.

its true that they have non existant maintenance and these buildings would look awful in 30 years. in addition to driers and central air conditioners, shanghainese ppl have to invest in maintenance too. for a clearer picture, take a look at hong kong or taipeis older apartment blocks. they look like shit from a distance but theyre not bad. hopefully shanghai can become like this later

Something you don't understand is that Chinese people like to hange clothings outside of room under sunshine or UV because UV not only kills bacteria but also gives naturally dry quality of clothings. You definitely know how to count out the price between one apartment and a dryer. I always think I will lost my business if I open one public laudromat store in Shanghai like I saw in other countries.

Whatever they are very bad, or messy ,no management, they are still so charming for tenants or investors. I can not image how wonderful if I own one of such "worst "places , you know I never worry about vacancy. ;)

Shanghai is dense, mixture of oldness and novel; mixture of oriental and western culture, same to Shanghai's archetecture. But Shanghai will never be in your expectation being like Hongkong or Taipei.
Shanghai will be like "shit" or " bad" in her own unique way.
I have best wishes to Shanghai.

You don't have to wait for 30 years later. Many residences over 30 years showed in these pictures are right there mixing with new buildings. These are what they look like in so-called " in 30 years" you could imagine.

I don't find many of the towers charming at all. I can't smell the spring air from inside. Good point about occupancy though.

Those are old commieblocks. 30 years ago Shanghai didn't have towers.
