I know my threads are simplistic, but I am desparately trying to get out of the city versus city thing........OK children, this is an activity that everyone can participate in: How of your cities tall buildings have setbacks, spires and pyramid roofs? Name them.....since I live in Durham, I'll start.

Suntrust Tower (CCB Building) Classic artdeco setbacks like its cousin in the NY. The building has a two wing and and a six story wing that narrows into the 17 story tower.

Sometimes I try to envision it with a spire...I know that would be nice

I don't know if the art-deco Snow Building would fit the set back category it only has half of the seventh floor

Unfortunately, I cannot think of many good examples in Raleigh :( We seem to have a lot of "square" tops and minimal setbacks. Two Hannover Square seems to be a candidate, as well as the Wake County Government building, both having setbacks and non-flat tops. We could say that Two Progress Plaza and Wachovia Capitol Center have non-flat tops, but it would be pushing it.

1) Two Hannover Square:

Charlotte has a lot of this stuff. Only a handful of prominent towers would be considered "boxy".

Of course there's BoA, with nearby Interstate Tower... both crowned.

There's Hearst (crown) and the unique setbacks of IJL.

The crown/setbacks of Wachovia 1 (probably the closest thing we have to a dome).

The underrated Carillion building.

The distinctive crown of the Odell building.

The Omni Hotel simply comes to a point.

First Citizens Plaza (center, in front of the blue-glassy building) has tons of setbacks.

And a lot of other less-noticeable buildings have smaller oramentation on their roofs, like the small spire on the newly-finished Courtside condos or the roof of 112 Tryon (respectively).
