I was just messing around with Google Earth yesterday when I found something I've been waiting for, for a long time. They have finally added high-res satellite photos of Doha!!

However, the photos aren't that up to date and some stuff isn't included in the high-res area. Most noticeable was the new Khalifa stadium, the Ritz Carlton and The Pearl Qatar...

Thanks for the pics. You can tell these are at least 1 year old if not more-- the road to Four seasons isn't even built. and neither are all towers in front of city center. Interesting though. But Omar if you dont mind, can you check the Old airport area, between the Airport roundabout and the Parachute roundabout and zoom in--cause i seem to have that area (which is my neighborhood :)) in low resolution. Thanks!!!

me too have free version and it sure is connection problem try not to use connection for any other thing while you are using earth and also see if you have spyware coz that blocks speed and btw me have 5mbps connection.

google earth beta has better textures. but theyre all the same level of detail but it was taken on a sunny day unlike the normal version. it also shows latest projects.

Qatar looks very nice on the updates. Lots of new buildings and infrastructure is being built.

It was updated a month or two ago again, with pictures from January. Best way to tell is to look at the Midmac intersection - in the old pics, it was under construction, in the new one it is fully completed, and the airport road is under construction.

^^ well i usally check the roads to make sure if its updated or not they all are the same, alssad signals, airport road, and alshura r/a

anyway it could be pictures from January it looks like that

You guys heard that Google Earth is blocked in Bahrain, do you think they will censor it here too in Qatar?

If you active the layer called "DG Coverage" (in G.E. Ver. 4.0) you'll see the date for each one of the hi-resolution pictures. You can even select a sub-layer for each year.

I thought about this too, but the imagery is dated sept 2010, excavation should be done by now.

Sorry for the late reply. There isn't really anything new about version 6.0; in fact, it's a lot more hectic to use than the older version. You cant roam as freely as in version 5.0, especially when you tilt the view. For instance, you cant tilt the view all the way down to ground level. Also, some features are harder to find. I don't advise you to upgrade, until Google release a stable version (6.0 is still in beta mode).

By the way, a few more 3D skyscrapers popped up in Doha. :)
