</table>
It's a new large entertainment complex located right in the heart of Bangkok, Siam Square-Rama 1 area.
The project includes:
1.) hi-end luxury shopping center (Famous Int'l Brandnames and Jewelry Center) One of the largest jewelry trading centers in S.E. Asia.
2.) 5-star hotel
3.) Exhibition Hall
4.) Entertainment center with new IMAX theater
5.) and much more:)
The government is trying to make Bangkok a shopping paradise like Singapore. There are already many shopping centers around that area.

yeah, it's very close to the Novotel at Siam Square. The site was used to be a Siam Intercontinental hotel but now it got demolished.
That area will be much better once this complex is completed. The WTC-Bangkok also will be finished soon. The owner will also add more retail space in WTC to compete with this Siam Paragon.

I think you might be referring to the Pathunam Complex. It's very close to the Baiyoke Tower. The project was abandoned, but not anymore. The shopping part will be completed by the end of this year or early next year. But the residential apt. will be completed later.
This shopping complex will be a big place for wholesale cloths. So when this project is done, the area around Baiyoke tower will look a lot nicer coz those stores will be moving inside the complex.

Chad
April 8th, 2003, 09:01 AM
The Pratunam Complex project included:
2 of 44 storey residential building, another 42 storey Hotel.
and 14 storey shopping complex

Hi, im new to this forum.
I think the Siam Paragon will create a lot of benefits to the area, economically and architecturally, but one thing does bother me A LOT. Why is it that there is no significant setback of the strusture from the edge of the road? It is situated right next to Siam Station, building something this lare will only create a tunnel on Rama 1, which is not good looking.

Look how nice The Emporium looks because of the open space between Phrom Phong and the dept. store.

no no...I think there'r some misunderstanding information here....The front-side of the plaza will set-back from the train station with the large park, plaza, fountain and a oriental lotus pool seperate them apart.

The picture posted above by Angkor is the image i based my assumption on. There is significant space between the station and the structure, but that will be elevated, at least 1 or 2 stories above ground level. You can see that there is very little space at the bottom of the image between the edge of Paragon and the skytrain pillar.

This is unfortunately a common sight, people not making public access better looking - just thier own private property. The nicely paved tree lined walkways will be above ground for Paragon customers whilst regular Bangkok citizens will have to endure the smog trapped underneath the monolith called Siam Station.

I really dont understand why the ground floor could not be set back or put underground and that conical structure be set at ground level. Gaysorn has a smaller version of that circular glass enterance and it is at ground level, makes the street look amazing.

I understand....but, infact the large plaza i mentioned before isn't gonna be at the "GROUND" level, on the other hand, It will located half storey heigher than the road level also streaching 120 meters along the Rama I Road (according to www.siamparagon.co.th . but the problem is I think there's one picture that show the plaza artist impression view which is in the site i gave below. And nevertheless also there's gonna be another large lake and plaza which build in the Oriental style called "The Enchanted Lagoon".

for more images...visit www.siamparagon.co.th

yah, if it built on the ground level, it will help the street looks better. hmm. but i am sure that the architect will try to make the area around it looks good though.

I've heard about that Lagoon too Chad. :)

You seem to have misunderstood me.
I said they should build the main enterance to the Siam Paragon at ground level. I was not referring to the skytrain.
Having 4 Train Tracks at ground level on Rama 1 would not only be stupid, it would be impossible.

Umm....If I'm not mistaken...., There's gonna be the biggest Oceanrium in Asia at Siam Paragon...,right?

Siam Paragon to invest 1 bn baht in biggest oceanarium in Asia

Oceanis Australia Group will invest over one billion baht for 'Siam Ocean World', a giant aquarium, targeting the biggest oceanarium over the existing aquariums in Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia as well as stimulating tourism industry.
The aquarium is expected to attract more than 2 million vistiors per year and should be ready in 2005.

I second that opinion. The idea of having a cultural institution such as an opera house or a museum in a mall is just bad. Very bad. It shows that the developer does not value culture in a city where culture is a big attraction. What's next? A temple in a mall?

Sorry for venting. >(

...But i think The Opera house doesn't seem type of Asia's cultural or Thai's cultural .so that's why i guess that they just only need to Put and Mix its with a great location in order to spread the new Cultural to Thais to suit with their need.
According to Thai's Cultural, We have got many significant attraction place around bangkok.there's no need to put them in a mall.and in my opion .No one does

But yet, It's kinda good Idea to put this kind of thing in the mall too. Ofcouse those teenagers WON'T go to the Stand-Alone Operahouse I can garantee that, but yeah!, They go to the Mall!!...Thats why they put the Operahouse in it, just easier to attracted the youngs.....:)

Natural Park arm wins B3bn deal

Hotel, apartment for Siam Paragon project

Sukanya Jitpleecheep

A subsidiary of developer Natural Park Plc has won a 30-year contract to develop a resort-style five-star hotel and a luxury serviced apartment, costing three billion baht, as part of the 15-billion-baht Siam Paragon commercial complex in Bangkok.

Siam Piwat Co, the developer of Siam Paragon, has awarded a contract to rent an 18-rai plot behind the planned retail complex to Richee Intertrade Supply Co of Natural Park.

Under the project, a hotel with 300 rooms of at least 30 square metres each and a 150-unit luxury serviced apartment building are scheduled to open in 2007, two years after the Siam Paragon complex.

The lease term on the land will be 28 years with an initial payment of 500 million baht and a monthly rental of 12.5 million baht, Natural Park told the Stock Exchange of Thailand yesterday.

According to Sermsin Samalapa, president and CEO of Natural Park, Richee Intertrade Supply will raise half of the funds needed for the project by increasing its registered capital in the near future and the other half from bank loans.

He said the 50,000-sq m hotel would be in a contemporary Thai style, connecting to the Siam Paragon shopping complex. Its main target group will be foreign tourists.

After the hotel is opened, it is expected to generate sales of about 800-900 million baht per year and break even within 10 years. Kempinski, a well-known hotel management chain in Europe, was selected to manage the new hotel and serviced apartments.

Mr Sermsin said that the company had selected Kempinski because it offered a guaranteed return of at least 5% of the annual sales projection, or 100 million baht.

Chadathip Chutrakul, managing director of Siam Piwat Co, said the company chose Richee Intertrade Supply from 12 candidates because its hotel concept was in line with the company's plan to build a low-rise city hotel.

Apart from the new hotel, Natural Park was granted a contract in June to build a 400-million-baht opera house on the fifth floor of Siam Paragon.

Mr Sermsin expected the hotel room rates to be between US$170 and $200 per night and the rent of the serviced apartments to be about 1,000 baht per sq m per month.

Mr Sermsin said Natural Park had already launched six leading property projects totalling 6.1 billion baht this year. Two of the new projects will be opened in Chiang Mai and Phuket within the next two years.

The Chedi Chiang Mai Hotel, an 800-million-baht, four-storey hotel with 120 rooms, is located at the old site of the British Consulate. The other is the one-billion-baht Setai Phuket Resort Hotel which has 120 rooms of 36 sq m each.

Mr Sermsin said that apart from building new hotels in prime location, the company is interested in expanding its property business by acquiring unfinished projects or distressed assets.

Natural Park shares closed yesterday on the Stock Exchange of Thailand at 8.80 baht, down 40 satang, in trade worth 25.50 million baht.

9000 is only for the 1st stage, which does not included "The Opera House", "Oceanarium" and "Kempinski Hotel and Serviced Apartment"....I believes the final cost would be more than 15000....;)

NPARK decides on Siam Opera consultant

staff writer

Natural Park Plc (NPARK) said the company has decided to hire Cameron Mackintosh Consultants, a reputable world-class theatre consultant, to assist in the development of its magnificent Siam Opera project.

NPARK’s vice president project development Bunna Lertbunnaphongs said the company had conducted a thorough search for the most appropriate theatre consultant team to take part in the development of this project.

“The impressive record of Cameron Mackintosh Consultants, Arts Team and Arup Acoustic attests to their considerable expertise and experience in the theatre industry, which enhances the likelihood of a successful project,” he said.

NPARK has signed a contract with Siam Paragon Development to be the sole developer of Siam Opera.

The company is committed to the development of the finest proscenium theatre featuring full back and side stages, as well as supporting facilities to accommodate renowned Broadway musicals, grand operas and other prestigious cultural performances, and to searching for experts who will provide advice and help in the development of this project.

Cameron Mackintosh Consultants is a division of Cameron Mackintosh, the producer of numerous world-class productions, including two greatest all time hits – The Phantom of the Opera and Miss Saigon.

Over the last decade, the company has provided consultancy services to both developers and theatre operators worldwide on a variety of arts projects.

Apart from Siam Opera, NPARK has launched six other projects with a total investment of over nine billion baht. They are two serviced apartments, one office building, two hotels and the latest hotel and serviced apartments project adjacent to Siam Paragon.

As I noticed from the footprint of the building it's self, 9 storey shopping complex is a hugh deal......very big, I think it's around 3 times bigger than the Siam Discovery Center.

Yep, The Amarin Plaza will be renovated as a Design Center which will be used just like a art and design museum on the 3rd floor...:)

and the 2nd floor will be an OTOP center which will displays all the OTOP products from around the country here and sells some as well.

the ground floor will still remains as the retails space..:)

Super construction updates, Chad! :okay: Thank you! :) And extra points for saying what we're looking at! :applause:

I agree with BKKinTO and Jo: the Erawan is a bit too white. ;) Too white on white is boring! And you're right, the entrance is a cheap tack-on. The columns per se are very nice, but I'm sorry to hear the place lost some of its Greek appearance. :(

it still looks very elegant. nice and classy. but like others said 'so white'. actually i am a bit confused. This one is called "The Eranwa". how about the one next to it (used to be Sogo). is it part of the project as well?

The greek architectural details will still appear, but with more modern-contemporary details that blend with it might reduced some visual-inpacts.....

Appearently the details on every columns looks very stunning BTW, and if u look at it closely, it doesnt 100% Greek since some Thai appearances are still visible such as thai-decorative designs...:)

No Kiku, This u/renovation one is the former "SOGO"....another one next to it that has Mc. I think the Investors should build some skyscrapers next to siamparagon.
I think this idea will work out very well since this area is some kind of hit.
They have to learn from Central World Tower!! which is so call the overwhelm
success.!! and surely the central pattana group got lot of money then.

The skyscraper would rise up to 80-100 storeys and has more than 200,000 sqm. available for modern-hitech office spaces.
I think it will grabs the success just like Central world tower does and make alot money atlast.

There are hundreds of homeless people living on the streets around Times Square in NYC.
There are more important things in this world than earning money for expensive land. Thai people are known all over the world for their compassion and not for their greed. Please don't change this perception.

How would Times square look like if all those poor people go around building up there own community in timessquare, I sure feel pity those people who live in the slum but they should not have slum community in the middle of Bangkoks city centre, that's just awfull. Dang wrong !! :wallbash:

build an area for the poor people to live in (like klong toey)
don't have slum communities here and there in wtc area, next to emporium then have a slum community next to siam paragorn and build a little slum community in siam square haha common that's what I call a bad city planning dang dang :wallbash:

I see your point Rayman, but moving them out is not just like in a sudden. It takes time to do so, first to find new places for them then explain to them why moving and then get them out. There are many "processes" to do, not just like we want to move them out of there now and tomorrow we'll do, no. Things are more complicated in real life Ray..

i think because those lands were private land. but since that area in a way is owned by government, so it's harder to do it that way. I actually agree with you though. i want to relocate them somewhere else. but just like Chad said it takes time to do so.
Actually, many people who live there kinda have money. but they just don't wanna move out according to my friends.

There are, Din Daeng Flats and many other Karn Keha community, never heard of them? They are cheap like water, but yes...Slummers prefer cheaper, and happens to be "free"..

Hitesh
June 6th, 2004, 06:21 AM
Yea it is a a pity to have slums near such a 'prestigious' area but I am sure when they picked a place to stay they didnt that area because the land was expensive. They chose it because it was government land and it was near a temple.
You keep comparing Bangkok to Times Square. Times Square has only been cleaned up in the past 8-10 years. I remember when I was younger that area was very sleazy. It was worse than Patpong. Seriouslly. It didn't take them long to clean that area up and in due time the slum will move out of the WTC area in Bangkok.
