I'm happy to see this hotel almost completed, although it seems really huge for its location! Wonder how many stars it's gonna be.
Halawala August 12th, 2006, 06:26 PM Thanks 3omar for the pics! Actually, the two Mana Towers are in a location where it's very difficult to take proper photos of without being at an angle. hehe.
Massila, the hotel is 100 m. and will be 5 stars ***** . Managed by the La Cigale Hotel Company of Lebanon.

Qatar Son 333 August 13th, 2006, 10:19 AM oh that day i was going to hayattplaza it looked very nice in the front at night but the other side is a hell ((((((((((((((((opss sorry
omarmakki August 13th, 2006, 10:24 AM by the way, does anyone know the opening day of Villagio mall?
I also want to know. Because I am leaving Doha in a few days and I would love to see it before leaving...
suzan August 13th, 2006, 10:38 AM Well, I have a friend who works in one of the contractors for the mall.. He told me that it should be opening on the 13th of August since he had a deadline until last Thursday! But I am not sure if that is true. What i know is that the stores inside the mall are more than ready! All merchendise are already arranged and organized for the opening
Qatar Son 333 August 13th, 2006, 10:57 AM i dont think so besids th other side dosent have a wall
omarmakki August 13th, 2006, 11:05 AM ^^ Yeah... Same here. 'Cause the 13th of August is... today! And obviously, they still have some work to do...
If the merchandise is ready for the opening, I say it will be opened by next week. As if they are waiting for me to leave :(
Qatar Son 333 August 13th, 2006, 11:15 AM lol waiting for you to leave funny
Massilia August 13th, 2006, 12:55 PM Now... Back to my good mood:D
What else guys do you think I could go to and take pics of?
Hey man dont say that, it's too tempting to ask you to go to so many places!! lol
Anyway why not try the Old Salata area around the current Moevenpick, there were cute little buildings + shopping mall getting built.. :)
omarmakki August 13th, 2006, 01:00 PM lol! I have no idea where Old Salata is! What's that current Movenpick? I only know about the one under construction infront of the Four Seasons...
Any directions? Plus, what's that shopping mall getting built?
Halawala August 13th, 2006, 06:41 PM --Omar, I think you can go and take pics of the mall since it is almost open... maybe...
--The new mall I am not sure where, but it is somewhere in Abu Hamour Area. (near Salwa Road but further down the road), by the Mercedes new showroom (you gotta know where that is ;))
omarmakki August 13th, 2006, 10:52 PM I was just at Hyatt Plaza about 3 days ago. And as qatar son 333 said, it looked almost complete from the front. But not from the back. It was a mess! lol! Other than the back it really looks finished. I just wish they would open it in a couple of days...
You are talking about the showroom with the two big glass pyramids on the sides right? I'm sorry, but I'm really not good at street names! :D
EDIT: I am now confused. Halawala, will you please tell me which mall were you referring to in each of your points? Sorry!
salman515 August 13th, 2006, 11:45 PM im confused too, its either in Abu Hamour Area or near Mercedes new showroom and yes it is the one with the two big glass pyramids
halawala do u mean regency mall or the other one which almane3 is building ?
Massilia August 13th, 2006, 11:58 PM Old Al Salata if I'm not mistaken is the area around the Movenpick hotel on the Corniche, next the national museum.
There are some projects there like the Al Hitmi development:
http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/4024/alhitmicommercialresidentialdevelopmentmy4.jpg
or little towers like Al Mansoor tower or Hleytan Tower:
http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/6069/almansoortowerzf3.jpg http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/4840/03210231rdax550x363100rb9.jpg
No idea about these projects' status now though..

Oh, I was refering that Abu Hamour Area is the area near the Mercedes showroom (the one with the 2 big glass pyramids. As for the malls, I was just guessing about the location. (regency mall)
zx August 17th, 2006, 11:12 AM I have official confirmation that Ridges hotel will be demolished next year.
suzan August 17th, 2006, 11:29 AM Lagoon looks amazing!!
I have official confirmation that Ridges hotel will be demolished next year.
Oh... whats up with demolishing everything!!!
omarmakki August 17th, 2006, 11:31 AM So... What will be built instead?
Halawala August 17th, 2006, 06:50 PM I have official confirmation that Ridges hotel will be demolished next year.
That is the biggest load of bs I have ever heard. This whole demolishing thing is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Instead of planning carefully, we make stupid desicions and later regret them. I say let us go two hundred miles to the East and learn a bit there before sailing back home!
Qatar Son 333 August 17th, 2006, 07:14 PM what contry is in the two hundred miles ???????
Halawala August 17th, 2006, 08:41 PM what contry is in the two hundred miles ???????

Halawala August 23rd, 2006, 02:57 PM I just merged this thread with the Towers Under Construction since both are talking about the same things. I think this thread deserves a sticky.
omarmakki August 29th, 2006, 12:37 PM Here is a photo I took of the skyline when I was in Doha...

You won't really know how tall the 44 West Bay Tower is until you see it from a distance...
Halawala August 29th, 2006, 01:45 PM Thanks Omar, that buildings just seems on growing and growing--mashalla. I think it is supposted o be 44 stories high, but it obciously is higher.
omarmakki August 29th, 2006, 03:18 PM True... It looks much more than 44 floors. However, I think it's almost finished. I think something like 70% of the glass is installed. I give it another month and inshallah it'll be complete.
Halawala August 29th, 2006, 04:58 PM inshalla, but Omar aren't the smaller towers finished like Aryam tower, QIC, and Dana Towers?
Massilia August 29th, 2006, 06:26 PM Impressive height!
salman515 August 29th, 2006, 06:52 PM i think they r done with aryam and qic by now
omarmakki August 29th, 2006, 07:43 PM None of them was completed before I left. But QIC, was closest to completion. Only very few parts were left to be covered with glass. Al Aryam was close. But, it needed a little more glass than QIC :D
Al Dana, didn't have any glass at all! So, I'm sure it isn't finished.
suzan August 29th, 2006, 08:45 PM Hey I heard that Carefour at Villagio Mall was on fire!!!
Anyone knows about this?
:(
Halawala August 29th, 2006, 08:53 PM No way! OMG, I hope that isn't true! Can someone at Doha find out please?
suzan August 29th, 2006, 09:12 PM Well, I knew since my husband works at Aspire and people over there were talking about this incident, and a person mentioned that this happened since they opened sooner that expected (i mean the carefour) and no security matters were finished at this time.. my husband also told me that the road infront Villagio mall was blocked, and traffic was crazy..
I hope it wasnt that bad.. Villagio was great for the Asian games, and by the way they should take more care about fires because as I am seeing it is happening a lot here in Qatar!!!!!!
Halawala August 29th, 2006, 09:20 PM Unfortunately, security is not THE number concern here. What a shame for a country that is exanding rapidly with new projects every second!
omarmakki August 29th, 2006, 09:57 PM HELL no! Please! Not another fire!
salman515 August 30th, 2006, 01:49 AM its in the news
omarmakki August 30th, 2006, 02:02 AM Too bad it's true! But thank God, nobody was hurt...
I just have a remark. Any idea what does 'limited' mean. I mean how big was the fire. What was damaged in the mall? Or was it in Carrefoure? Costs?

Scenes from Villagio shopping mall where the blaze happened.
DOHA • A fire broke out yesterday at around 3pm at the Villagio shopping mall close to Khalifa Stadium. There were no casualties.
The fire broke out to the right of the Carrefour supermarket but not close enough to cause any damage to the store. Fire tenders, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) ambulances, civil defence personnel and police were present at the scene.
Colonel Abdullah Fakhroo of the Civil Defence Department told The Peninsula: "There are no injuries. There is speculation that the fire may have been caused by welding work or perhaps due to an electrical problem. But this is just speculation and an investigation into the cause will be undertaken." He said that investigators had already visited the site and inspected the affected area for clues to the cause of the blaze. Fakhroo said the firemen was called in by a group of six workers who had come to the site and saw the flames.
A man was seen being taken away in handcuffs and put into a police vehicle which then sped away from the scene. Bystanders were unwilling to say why the man had been taken away but there was speculation that he may have been a supervisor or foreman with the construction crew working there. Carrefour is the anchor store at the Villagio mall and 200 additional stores are due to open, perhaps by the start of the Asian Games in December, a mall official said.
Massilia August 30th, 2006, 02:36 AM Doesn't sound too bad...
omarmakki August 30th, 2006, 02:46 AM A man was taken in handcuffs?? That sounds fishy.
Anybody thinks that this guys might have intentionally started the fire??
suzan August 30th, 2006, 06:43 AM OMG, then it turned out to be true...
Thank God no one was hurt..
By the way, has anyone been taking pics of Al Bidda tower?? It's really going up!! I will manage to take some pics in this weekend..
Halawala August 30th, 2006, 08:53 AM Thank God nobody got hurt, and I hope they punish those resonsible for their neglegence. We CAN afford to loose projects--but we CANT afford to loose more people due to unnessessary errors.
Halawala October 1st, 2006, 07:32 PM I think the Beverly Hills tower is complete since the lights are open and there are some furnishings inside.
