There's something very surreal about it, it's like something out of an Islamic version of 1984. Having said that it is not unattractive. Perhaps the architects could have made it a little less like a Las Vegas style landmark and more curvy and sacred looking, but it transforms Mecca from a dull little desert town build around an old box into a wonder of the world.

Surreal... In a book I read a while ago a some Islamic terrorist sect nuked Mecca. I really hope that dosen't happen.

nice job, I DID eliminate those lines. And in my opinion jabal-an-nur is not the best place to photograph Makkah skyline. Its the intersection of Al-Hajj Street and Al-sail road (The other Taif highway) at sunset, its a beautiful view. But you need to photograph it in panoramic mode. So can "hairee" (what kind of a name is that?) do us a favour? Or since you're coming in 3 weeks, can you do it? :yes:

Yeah that's what I was talking about; the golden stripes that extend from the bottom of the spire/minaret and pass by the lunar center reaching the tower's rooftop. also the area right under the globe/lunar center still hasn't been covered by glass.

these two additions would make the tower look a little bit less disjointed. hopefully, they'll be installed soon.

LOL. I'm Saudi and come from a Muslim background and I'm not the biggest fan of this project.

There is a difference between not being a fan and calling this the biggest monstrosity ever built or some other names that you can easily come across in this thread. "Ugly" is a term reserved for ugly stuff in my book, like the MetLife Tower in NY or Dubai's World Trade Center (the old one of course).

This, however, is an incredible project, fully succeeding in what this tower wants to accomplish. You may dislike certain things, like the clock and spire and size, if you are looking from the western perspective, or you may not even be a fan of this architectural style, but that does not diminish the achievement that AAB is. I, for one, also have buildings that don't appeal to me much design-wise, like Chicago's Trump Tower or Busan Lotte Tower, but I don't go mouthing off that they are the ugliest thing ever.

I like this design more than the final one... I agree with some opinions that even though I don't like central tower at all, the complex itself has a personality of its own (it reminds me a little Moscow University Tower). I can see it more obviously thanks to the aerial pics posted in the previous page.
