A new city district at Al Raha will be built at a staggering cost of USD 15 billion to serve as the new gateway to Abu Dhabi city.

The new city district will be built on 6.8 million square metres along the Abu Dhabi to Dubai highway on reclaimed land at Al Raha beach.

The total built-up area will be 12 million square metres ranging from 60-storey towers to low-rise developments at the water's edge to accommodate a resident population of 120,000.

The new city district will be integrated with Khalifa Town 'A' and the recently completed Al Raha Beach Hotel by a road and related transport links.

The underlying theme of the development will be to enhance Abu Dhabi's natural wealth of water and beach frontage. "Maximising the water frontage at Al Raha beach, the new city will provide a lifestyle destination embracing residential, commercial, cultural, entertainment and public amenities," he said.

Water taxi services will be provided to serve all parts of Abu Dhabi island as well as the outlying islands such as Saadiyat and the Abu Dhabi International Airport, thus providing a new means of urban transport for the city while also boosting tourism in the capital.

wow, it's nice too see a waterfront that doesn't have a highway running right beside it...does anyone know why the beaches don't folllow the whole development?
