Saipa Diesel soon to begin exports of €130m Volvo trucks to Africa
TEHRAN, Oct. 22 (MNA) – Iran’s Saipa Diesel Co. will in the next month begin exports of its homemade Volvo trucks abroad. The trucks are valued at around €130 million, an official with one of the nation’s major auto makers noted.

Based on an earlier agreement reached with the parent company, Iran’s truck manufacturer is planning to export 2,000 FM12, FM9, FH12 and NH12 Volvo trucks to the African markets within a period of one year, the Persian service of ISNA quoted him as saying here on Sunday.

Export of Volvo trucks to the African markets will begin in December this year, the Saipa Diesel official announced. He also commented that the company has so far exported 71 trucks to Kuwait and is planning to increase the number to 200 by the yearend (Iranian year ends March 20, 2006).

Referring to the export of trucks to other Persian Gulf nations, he said that the company was reviewing the issue.

Volvo Trucks delivered its first trucks to Iran in 1934. Since then, 60,000 Volvo trucks have been exported to the nation. Iran imported more than 25,000 trucks from the Swedish company during the last five years.

Producing 10,900 Volvo trucks, Iran is the fourth producer of the vehicle. Today, Volvo is positioned as the leading heavy truck company in Iran.

Since sanctions got liften from Iran's economy the U.S capped the amount of business US companies can do with Iran... I can't remember the precise number think its ~20,000,000USD per annum. Not to mention the 27 years of embargoes on aircraft products that has made Iran's passenger aircrafts death traps. The US funds propaganda television stations to be broadcasted in Iran via satelite to cause social unrest. I guess that all doesnt matter then lol

Well, that's looking at it from a different perspective. I think it's not smart to limit the amount of business that a US company can do with a country, the embargo sucks because the people are the ones who are most affected, and I didn't know about the propaganda which is really a shame.

I really don't see a reason for the german companies to give up their shares in Iran just because of pressure. Once more, it is the people who are affected since many will lose jobs. I thought business was business but I guess politics manages to get involved. Sorry.

Turkey trying to remove obstacles to imports of Iranian cars
TEHRAN, Nov. 17 (MNA) — The problems existing ahead of the export of the Iranian passenger car Samand to Turkey and those facing the sales of the Turkish sedans, Megane to Iran will be soon resolved and Turkey will do its best to that effect, noted Turkey’s deputy minister of industry and trade.

Iran’s Samand has been able to meet all the European standards and to get the franchise to enter into Turkish auto market, he stated. “We hope that upon removal of the current obstacles to the export to Iran of the Meganes assembled in Turkey, the sale of Samands will also begin in Turkey, the Persian service of ISNA quoted him as saying on Friday.

Meanwhile, pointing to the obstacles to the imports of Megane into Iran and its relation with Iran’s sales of its Samand to Turkey, Alireza Mirzaii, an official with Iran’s major auto producer, Iran Khodro Industrial Company (IKCO) said, “Of course, there are some problems in this regard, for example, the Turkish side raises the question that how is it that tariffs on auto imports to Iran is set at 90 percent whereas the figure is 10 percent in Turkey?”

Samand was widely acclaimed by Turkish media, TV channels and visitors of the 11th International Automotive Supply Industry and Service Equipments Exhibition “Auto Show 2006”, currently held in Istanbul. Istanbul Police Chief Celalettin Cerrah had earlier noted that if technically approved, Samand would be able to serve in the transportation system of Turkish police forces.

In another development, Renault Pars Co. (a French-Iranian joint venture comprised of Iran’s Pars Khodro Co. and the French automaker, Renault) has concluded an agreement with an Iranian firm, MegaMotor Co. to domestically build two different models of engines for Megane (16 valves, 1,600 cc and 16 valves 2,000 cc). The company is planning to produce 15,000 Meganes by 2008.

I guess we have talked about this even before in this forum. This is the general attitude of Iran which makes trading with Iran impossible. I think that Turkey wil not let this car to enter it's market. It's not fair, if Iran wants to sell sth. to Turkey, then they must let Turkey to sell in Iran too.

^^ No i know the story well. Khdoro offered to build an assembly line in Turkey but an assembly line does mean nothing. Main parts will be still imported from Iran.

I remember that once an Indian car maker has also tried to cut through the high custom tariffs via just building a symbolic assembly line in Turkey but Turkish side didn't let them also.

If Khodro wants to sell in Turkey, either they will build a full-operative plant in Turkey or let also Turkish manufacturers sell their porducts in Iran by lowering that unbelievable % 90 custom tariffs to Turkish made cars.

There's no other way. I guess this is a win-win for both sides. This is how international trade works.

Megan Banned in Response to Samand Import Suspension

Iran Khodro Bond Offer in December

TEHRAN, Nov. 19--Given that Turkish authorities suspended the import of Iran-made Samand sedan due to some unfounded reasons, Iranian Ministry of Industries and Mines slapped a ban on the import of Megan sedan.
Manouchehr Manteqi, managing director of the Iran Khodro Industrial Group, told Fars that Turkish authorities banned the imports of Samand while making false claims about the Iran-made sedan being sub-standard and not covered by after-sale services, adding, however, that the ministry imposed a ban on Renault Megan due to the same reasons.
He hoped that the dispute would be settled by the Iran-Turkey Economic Committee which is to study the obstacles to Samand and Megan trade in December.
He further referred to the distribution of Iran Khodro participation bonds, noting that feasibility studies were conducted and the bonds would be offered in December as soon as his company and the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) reach an agreement in this respect.
He added that one billion rials worth of Iran Khodro participation bonds would be offered with a profit rate of 17-17.5 percent, which is two percent more than the lending rate.
Pointing to the recent import tariff cuts in Syria, Manteqi said that Samand sedan has been exempt from tax for 10 years and the tariff of Complete, Knocked Down (CKD)--a complete kit which is needed to assemble a vehicle--were set at 40 percent in coordination with the CBI as part of efforts to maintain the economic viability of the national sedan production line in Syria. He added that Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad is empowered to levy a special kind of value added tax known as ’Refahiat’ on different sedans to support the Syrian auto-manufacturing industry.
He argued that imposing value added tax on the sedan is to the benefit of the Syrian Samand production line.
Earlier this month, IRNA quoted Deputy Industries Minister Mohsen Shaterzadeh as saying that the Iranian designed car Samand will go on trial production within two months in Syria, predicting that that full-scale industrial production will begin two months after the trial period.

Samand production line in Venezuela to be operational this week
TEHRAN, Nov. 25 (MNA) – The first phase of a project to produce the Iranian passenger car Samand in Venezuela will become operational in the coming days.

Productions from the first phase of an assembly line to manufacture the Iranian sedan Samand in Maracay, Venezuela, will hit the South American nation’s market on Nov. 27, this year, Iran’s major automaker Iran Khodro Co. (IKCO) said in a statement released on Saturday.

The plant’s production capacity stands at 10,000 units, however, the figure could be raised upon request, he stated adding that Iran’s share of the project amounts to 51 percent of the total investment.

The Latin American country’s auto production plant is going to offer four different models of the Iranian car, the statement quoted Manuchehr Manteqi, the managing director of Iran Khodro Co. as saying.

In light of the good relations, Iran and Venezuela have already agreed upon over 120 memoranda of understanding in various fields.

IKCO mulling export of $10b auto parts in next decade
TEHRAN, Nov. 28 (MNA) – Iran’s major automaker Iran Khodro Co. (IKCO) aims to export auto parts worth $10 billion within the next 10 years, noted Manuchehr Manteqi, the company managing director.

“Aside from the export of automotive technology, we are able to sell abroad the know-how on auto parts as well,” he also said during a news conference held here on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Mojtaba Shivapur, the managing director of SAPCO - Iran-Khodro Engineering and Parts Design Manufacturing Company - commented on the production in Syria of the Iranian made sedan, Samand, as well as automobile parts in that country.

Preliminaries end for Paykan production in Sudan
TEHRAN, Nov. 29 (MNA) ? Iran?s major auto producer Iran Khodro Industrial Group is planning to transfer the production line of its domestically phased out passenger car Paykan to Sudan

Preliminary agreements have been reached between Iran and Sudan to transfer Iran?s still popular passenger car Paykan to Sudan, however, the final agreement is conditional on and subject to the loan to be granted to the project, noted on Wednesday, Iran Khodro managing director Manuchehr Manteqi. He added that negotiations are underway for the Export Development Bank of Iran (EDBI) to fund parts of the project.

He also commented that continuation of the production of Paykan in the North African country is a move mainly aimed at supporting Paykan part producers to compensate for the losses incurred by the phasing out of Iran Khodro?s production cycle.

The Paykan assembly line said to be installed in Sudan?s capital, Khartoum, is expected to produce 10,000 passenger cars in the first year, the figure is planned to reach 20,000 in the next year, Iranian officials had earlier commented.

After nearly forty years, Iran Khodro finally phased out production of the nation's best-selling car last year. Some 50,000 old British Hillman Hunters - the automobiles Iranian Paykan was carbon copied from in the 60s - are still plying the streets of Iran.

Samand Assembly Line in Venezuela to Launch Operation in Dec.

http://media.farsnews.com/Media/8412/Images/jpg/A0169/A0169892.jpg

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- After a team of Iranian experts provided all the required infrastructures for the operation of the assembly line of Iran-made auto 'Samand' within a very tight action plan, the assembly line of this favorite Iranian car is to start operation in Venezuela early December.

Deputy director of the Engineering Center of Iran-Khodro -Samand's manufacturing company- Kianoush Pour Mojeeb said a 40-member team of Iran-Khodro experts has been busy with establishing Samand production line in Venezuela in the last few months, as a result of which the first products of the factory's Venezuelan branch seem to enter the market before the turn of this year.

He said the round-the-clock efforts of experts have been made in compliance with the direct instructions of President Ahmadinejad who had insisted on the speedy establishment and operation of Samand assembly line in Venezuela during a recent visit to Caracas.

Iran-Khodro has undertaken to make a joint venture investment of IR100 billion in its branch in Venezuela called 'VENIRAUTO', which means control of 51% of the company's shares by Iran-Khodro for, at least, the next five years.

The assembly line for the manufacture of the popular Iranian-made 'Samand' automobiles will be officially inaugurated in China in the near future.

'Samand' trade name is now registered at the World Intellectual Property Rights Organization (WIPO).

Iran-Khodro group, the Iranian car manufacturer and owner of Samand, is the first Iranian company whose product is registered at the WIPO.

The state will ensure against the fraudulent use of the name, industrial design, and copying of the product manufactured by the company worldwide.

Azerbaijan, Belarus, Syria, Vietnam and China are among the many world countries which either have asked for or are already assembling this popular Middle-Class automobile.

Meanwhile, the Director for Asia and Pacific region of Iran-Khodro said here in July that Bangladesh and Pakistan have ordered over 5,000 gas-powered Samand models with right-hand steering-wheels.

He also reckoned that given the financial capability of South Asian markets and competitive advantage that Iran enjoys, the company can gain a foothold in these markets in a relatively short period of time.

"Iran-Khodro can with a cohesive and detailed planning gain a share of the market."

The company has other automobile production ventures with foreign countries and companies in a bid to market share for increased exports to regional markets.

Earlier Croatian Ambassador to Tehran said that the people of East Europe are waiting for the Iranian-made passenger car 'Samand'.

She also said that after the launch of operation of Samand assembly line in Azerbaijan and Belarus, the manufacturing company, Iran-Khodro, now has better chances for gaining access to the CIS and East European markets.

According to the diplomat, Iran-Khodro officials have announced that they would soon start exports of Samand to Poland, while the company is now studying other East European markets, including Romania and the republics of former Yugoslavia.

Meantime, a new model of Samand, Iran's first passenger car achieving Euro III emission standard, rolled off the assembly line just a few months ago.

Aside from reducing its exhaust gas pollutants, the fuel consumption of the sedan has also been cut, and as a result of the modifications made to the new models of Samand, particularly its Engine Management System (EMS), the engine performance has been significantly enhanced.

Better drive ability, knock reduction and improvement in the engine's power output are cited as other changes made to the earlier model, he added.

Iran’s Saipa to import Citroen C5 early 2007
TEHRAN, Dec. 5 (MNA) – Iran’s second major car producer Saipa is planning to begin its importation of a new series of France’s Citroen sedans in early 2007. The company will import around 1,000 Citroen passenger cars early next year, the passenger cars were expected to hit Iran’s auto markets in August 2006, however. Related officials have not yet mentioned the reasons for the delay in the car shipments.

Equipped with the 137-HP, 2-liter engine, ESP brake system and seven air bags, the passenger car is expected to be sold at something between $32,000 and $43,000.

The Iranian automaker is also mulling over importation of the C4 model of the car as well, the Persian service of ISNA said on Tuesday.

Some Iranian producers of expensive automobiles have turned their attention to the car imports rather than manufacturing them inside the country because they are concerned about their commerciality if domestically produced.

Iranian, Syrian companies to produce parts for Iran’s Samand

TEHRAN, Dec. 18 (MNA) – A number of Iranian and Syrian auto part producers have reached preliminary agreements to jointly manufacture automotive parts for the Iranian passenger car, Samand in Syria. An Iranian delegation consisting of 30 auto part producing companies is negotiating with its Syrian counterparts and investors to set up joint ventures for the production of parts for the Iranian sedan, Samand in Syria, a report said here on Monday.

Based on earlier agreements reached between the auto industries officials of the two countries, an Iranian-Syrian Samand assembly line will in the near future become operational in Syria; the plant’s production capacity is expected to be 10,000 units per year.

Manufacturing the sedans in Syria would be possible through the export of completely knocked down (CKD) parts during the first phase of the production; however, domestic manufacturing of the parts in Syria would be increased in the next stages.

Iran Khodro (40 percent), Syrian Ministry of Industries (35 percent) and the private sector (25 percent) are the stockholders of the joint Iran-Syria auto production plant.

Iran’s road transportation needs 40,000 trucks per year
TEHRAN, Dec. 18 (MNA) – Iran’s road cargo transportation is in need of around 40,000 heavy vehicles per year, noted the managing director of the nation’s major truck producer, Saipa Diesel. Saipa Diesel is trying to gain access to 55 percent of the nation’s heavy vehicles market by the end of 2009, Alireza Ghamgosar said adding that the truck manufacturing plant held 42 percent of the heavy vehicles market’s share of the country.

Based on the planning, the average age of trucks operating in Iran’s roads should be reduced to 10 years whereas the figure is much higher at present, the Persian service of ISNA quoted the official as saying on Monday.

During the recent years, more than 14 different brands of trucks have been introduced into the country’s roads leading to a state of chaos in the market, he commented explaining that lack of appropriate after-sales services for the vehicles will eventually face the nation’s road transportation fleet with problems.

Negotiations underway to produce L90 sedans in Tabriz
TEHRAN, Dec. 18 (MNA) – Final negotiations with local authorities are underway to set up an assembly line for the production of L90 passenger car in Iran’s northeastern city of Tabriz, East Azarbaijan Province.

Given that Tabriz is considered the automotive hub of the nation and Middle East, setting up an assembly line for the production of the Iranian version of French budget car, Logan (L90) in Tabriz would be commercially justifiable, noted Mohammad-Hossein Farhangi, the representative of the region’s people in Majlis (parliament).

Moreover, the lawmaker said, required credits to fund the project have been allocated from the nation’s Oil Stabilization Fund (OSF), the Persian service of ISNA news agency said on Monday.

Production of the passenger car to be also called Tondar, in Iran has been made possible through a contract earlier concluded between France’s Renault and Iran’s Pars Khodro Co. Based on lengthy discussions with the parent company, it was agreed that 65 percent of the sedan components be produced in Iran.

Iran’s major auto producers Pars Khodro and Iran Khodro are planning to build 180,000 L90 autos in the next year. The cars will hit the market with the 1600 cc and 2000 cc engine options.

Iranian car buyers to pay much more for China’s Chery
TEHRAN, Jan. 13 (MNA) -- The sales prices of the Chinese automobile Chery in Europe is about Rls.20 million (roughly around 2,170 USD), whereas it is said that after its production in Iran, the small passenger car is expected to be sold in domestic markets at about three times as much, an expert said.

Despite the fact that in a competitive situation, production of the Chinese auto in Iran is necessary and nevertheless, the car (Chery) is considered to be of a good quality, its assembly in Iran and selling it at much higher prices is not an appropriate thing to do, Dr. Ali Khaksari, a lecturer at Allameh University maintained.

Importation of a Chinese car assembly line into the country after two decades of propaganda over the production of “National Car” is a sign of the failure for the strategies pursued in the nation’s auto industry, he stated.

Emphasizing the motto of “Building the National Car” during the past two decades has only lead to the waste of financial and human resources with environmental concerns as well, he asserted.

The motto has neither resulted in the real production, nor that has the production quality improved for the better. After two decades of auto production, now we come to the point to manufacture Chinese cars in our country, he maintained.

Iran Khodro has said that by the end of this year, it will produce 250 units of the passenger car in its pilot production stage and some 12,000 in the next year for domestic markets, however, the company announced it is planning to export 10,000 units in the coming year.

The sedan also enjoys European ECE94 safety (crash) standards.

Saw the coming months ago, way before there were talks of sanctions... The US has had it's own sanctions on Iran since 1979

Atleast Iran will still produce BMWs.. altho they wont be manufacturing the X5, Z4 and Z8 because the US has bought the rights to manufacture those...

Daimler Chrysler: We will stay in Iran

TEHRAN, Feb. 14 (ISNA)-Daimler Chrysler branch in Iran denounced all recent rumors spread by news agencies, which had stated Daimler was to exit Iran.

Daimler Chrysler has announced that it will still remain in Iran's heavy and commercial machinery markets and even plans to cooperate with some of Iran's companies in producing a new commercial vehicle.

"Of course the market for our sedan products has faced a slight fall, but anyhow we will continue our production in Iran," said an informed official in Iran's Daimler Chrysler branch, while noting that within the past 6 months 100 class E sedans were produced in Iran.

http://www.payvand.com/news/05/jul/benz-iran.jpg

Reuters had reported that Daimler Chrysler under the pressures of the U.S. had been forced to withdraw out of Iran.

C.N.N. had covered this story under "Daimler Chrysler escapes Iran".

Deutsche Welle had reported that the U.S. Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice had warned Daimler Chrysler to withdraw out of Iran.

Another German magazine had written that Daimler Chrysler had decided to sell all its shares in Iran and to withdraw out of that country, which this was a result of the pressures forced upon this company by the U.S.

Of course this German company has transferred all its shares in the newly established joint venture company to Iran Khodro, which before this only possessed 50 percent of the shares.

Other German car producers such as Volkswagen also seem to be withdrawing out of the Iranian car market. This company, which produced a few thousand vehicles in Iran in 2005, from the period between March to September 2006 only delivered 700 Volkswagen Gols.

Iran to produce Russian van
TEHRAN, Feb. 20 (ISNA)-Iranian car producer, Iran Khodro Diesel is to start the production of Russian GAZ product in Iran.

This company plans to annually produce 12 thousand of this van in Iran under the name "Ghazal".

Production in its first phase will be as CBU and then will be CKD and Iran plan's to locally produce 50 percent of this vehicle through local production.

This contract is worth 300 million dollars and the Russian side has promised to transfer the technology of this type of vehicles to Iran.

Iran and Russia have increased their car cooperation in the past few years in a way that only in 2006 eight thousand Samands were exported to Russia and in return Iran has opened its doors to Russian commercial vehicles.

The estimated car trade between both sides in the coming two years is 800 million dollars.

Also BMW deals it's motorcycle range in Iran but most likely only to the authorities due to Iran's strict 250cc+ restrictions

According to Automobile.com BMW sells 2,000 - 3,000 cars per month in Tehran and the rate is rapidly on the rise.

i dont think so at all! i love the new models! brings a new era to Mercedes Benz!
the previos ones, almost all models had the same head/tail lights, the classic 'triangle shape'

now they are, more luxurios looking, and besides, as the time goes by and technology advances, previous models look ugly, (not to say that yours are NOT AT ALL!)

so my freind, it is only natural ;)

I agree with you to an extent... Mercedes Benz's manufacture quality has seriously deteriorated in recent years... I cannot see the current models surviving the years like the ones of old especially as the some of the current ones show serious wear and often need a lot of work during servicing after three or so years of regular driving. Not to mention the fact that Mercedes' customer service has become atrocious.. not only at dealerships but specialist garages as well... Most likely due to Daimler-Chrystler buying Mercedes Benz... Altho now Chrstler has slightly better cars, they have dragged down Mercedes

With BMW... (EDIT, the 1 series is just..??? lol, pointless BMW) new 3 series HORRIBLE, new 5 series also HORRIBLE with the exception of the M5 on pure brunt strengh... New 6 series is beautiful but only the coupé the convertible looks like it has a toupee on when the hood is up.. 7 Series is also horrible and it's more like working a computer with a terrible interface inside of it... Z4 is hot with the coupé version of it being truely exquisite.. the X range are horrible as well.. thought BMW could do better after buying Range Rover :-/

I have a 1990 BMW 525i sitting in my garage with only 15,000 miles (around 25000km) on the clock.. MINT condition... It's my dad's baby... Well now it's my baby as my dad doesn't care much for cars any more lol...

Well, I think you're right Shugs about the reasoning of Mercedes' decline being the purchase from Daimler - Chrysler, and, I'm glad you agree with the whole BMW thing, spot on, I think the M5 really is the only really good one, for the reason that you stated.

I thought I'd post in this thread my other car, I don't know if you guys will like it, it doesn't exactly have a name like mercedes but they're getting pretty rare the world over, it was one of my first cars and I still love it and drive it often. Hey thanks guys, I'm glad you liked my ford!
Well I'm from a city called Christchurch in New Zealand, right at the bottom of the world, and yes lol here we drive on the left hand side of the road!

sanchez, in 2003 the S class had a facelift and in this particular model they changed from a 5800cc N/A v12 to what I have which is a 5500cc twin turbo v12, it's incredibly fast but it looks just like a s320 or s430, so people don't really expect it, that's why I prefer it to s55 or s65, which obviously are a lot more flashy and create more attention.

Actually I don't know the exact figures, well it's really not as bad as you might think, it has a 7 speed transmission which helps and of course, like any car it really depends on how you drive it, if you take it easy in this car you really wont be shocked at how much you spend on petrol, saying that I didn't buy a v12 to take it easy:) .
Anyway it's about a 90 litre tank (23 ish gallons) so it costs me about $145 NZD to fill it up, which is pretty much $100 USD

Oh and I love AMG too, they really are my favourite cars, I have never driven a sl65 but a couple of 55's, only briefly but enough to know they really are incredibly fast, I can't even imaging a 65! the E55 is actually my favourite car that I ever had the oppurtunity to drive, just perfect!

do you guys know about the 63 amg's that are coming out now? N/A v8's, I think they're making them for most models, someone took me for a quick ride in a CLK63 last year and jesus christ! I just hope they aren't making these to replace the 55 AMG's because they are such a beautiful engine.

Hmm.. There is some Audi production activity in Iran as this article suggests http://www.iranmania.com/News/ArticleView/Default.asp?NewsCode=34162&NewsKind=Current%20Affairs

So the TT's could be coming thru from Germany through that trade link.. It's hard to tell with the little information available. But still it's great to see TT's and other Audis for sale in Iran, they're great cars.. Although I'm not mad enough to drive a sports car in Iran, I'l stick to my 4x4

Is there a heavy tariff on imported cars?

teh_endeshe
March 6th, 2007, 05:08 PM
yes, but the tarrif has gone down in comparison to several years ago. But as much as people in iran be paying for bmw and mercedes benz 100-250 thousand dollars, in america they could buy ferraris, Lamborginies and etc. Some where i read they have imported 40,000 imports this current year so far.

shugs
March 6th, 2007, 05:08 PM
The tariff is pretty heavy (Something like 50% I believe).. But it has dropped significantly over the past two years.. It used to be 150%

Altho sometimes the tariffs are lessened with deals with governments and Iranian auto manufacturers such as with Mercedes and BMW... Also ofcourse Mercedes that are manufactured in Iran are not subjected to tariffs...

Iran starts national engine production line

TEHRAN, Feb. 27 (ISNA)-Iranian car producer, Iran Khodro today inaugurated it national engine production line through the presence of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Ahmadinejad in the ceremony, while congratulating all who had tried to realize this project and the great nation of Iran noted that the government would fully support Iranian car producers.

"Iran both has the capability and the capacity to reach and step ahead of all in every field," he said.

In the United States, Iranian-Americans are known for their love of big, expensive cars, especially Mercedes. This thread isn't surprising at all.

Cartel: I would seriously suggest getting the biturbo Kleeman stage 2 upgrade for your S600. It'll boost you up to 630 hp. My dad is seriously considering using Kleeman for his CLS55 AMG upgrade because they clearly make the best performance upgrades (Carlson and Brabus are only good for aesthetic upgrades IMO).

As far as I know. The Iranian National Engine is 1.4 liters and based on a Kia engine, while the Soren has a 1.8 engine. Also the National Engine is CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) based.

Iran’s 2006 auto deals with Russia, China worth over $1 billion

TEHRAN, March 7 (MNA) – Iran has inked three automaking contracts valued at more than $1 billion with Russia and China since the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2006), Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) reported here on Tuesday.
Iranian automakers Iran Khodro Company (IKCO), SAIPA, and Kerman Khodro signed Russian companies GAZ and KAMAZ, Chinese carmakers Beiqi Foton Motor, Dongfang, and Chery Automobile Co.

According to the contracts, IKCO exports 6,000 Samand cars to Russia every year and 30,000 are produced in China.

Iran’s heavy trucks manufacturer, Iran Khodro Diesel, is to start assembling 12,000 new version of Russian GAZ van called Gazelle (Ghazal).

The van costs about $16,163 (Rls.150 million) and the production in its first phase will be as Completely Built-up Units (CBU) before March 21, 2007 and gradually the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembling will start and during a year the plan is to produce about 50 percent of the product as domestic production.

This contract is worth 300 million dollars and the Russian side is committed to transfer the technology to Iran.

Iran is to start Russian KAMAZ trucks production in the northeastern capital Tabriz according to the over €300 million contract, the biggest the two states have ever signed.

China also made many deals with Iranian automakers, such as $370 million investment on a Chinese automobile (QQ6) of which 30 percent belongs to Chery, 49 percent to Iran Khodro, and 21 percent to a private company.

Assembling of China’s Queen worth $8,600-$10,700 (Rls.80-100 million) and MVM520 worth $18,300 (Rls.170 million) are the other Iran’s plans.

Mersi kani. :)

Guys, you are not used that I give news from a web page, but here I go:

Samand P2, to be unveiled at Frankfurt 2007 Auto Fair
TEHRAN, Feb. 25 (MNA) -– The design is somewhere between Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series. Europe’s latest auto technology lurks under the skin, yet Samand’s spirit is still retained, engineers and designers at R&D Center of Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) asserted.
Samand gets a new facelift under the code name of P2 after six years and it will be unveiled at Frankfurt 2007 Auto Fair. After that, it would go for mass production in three models of Coupe, Pardis and Soren, the Persian service of ISNA reported on Saturday.

The new Samand is going to be equipped with shift-without-clutch system, tiptronics, which would be ideal in Tehran’s traffic and the BMW-like suspension would remove the weak point of the former model. Moreover, the P2 will be offered in two classes of 1.4 and 1.7 liters engines, 90-150hp, where the former gets a turbocharged version as an option.

Peugeot TU5 powerhouse, being developed jointly with the European firms, may allow IKCO to introduce a vehicle with Euro 4 standards to the world market. The interior is also going to receive a fresh eye-catching design and modern audio-visual systems are expected to welcome the eyes as well.

P2, 10-12cm longer than its predecessor, is designed to compete with import classes of C and D at projected price of 120-150 million rials.
Matter of fact, these news are over a year old, but I put it here if someone doesn't know about it.

Iran’s auto imports increase by over 150%
TEHRAN, March 14 (MNA) — Iran’s auto imports in the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2006) increased by more than 150 percent when compared with the past year, exceeding 26,000 vehicles.

The country imported around 10,000 vehicles in 2005.

Eight cylinder sedans, whose imports had been banned for years, found their way into the country in 2006, leading to a significant increase in the number of high-power cars, the Persian service of ISNA said on Wednesday.

Top on the list of the cars imported into the country were various models built by Toyota and Hyundai as Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata accounted for some 70 percent of the imported automobiles.

Although German automakers Mercedes Benz and BMW have failed to have a strong presence in Iran’s market, they are making fresh moves to boost their exports to Iran.

A number of domestic carmakers such as SAIPA and Kerman Khodro imported Renault’s Megane, Citroen C5, and Hyundai Sonata.

Iran’s major automaker Iran Khodro Co. (IKCO) is planning to import various brands of France’s Peugeot, including Peugeot 407 in 2007.

^^ Thanks for sharing, nice pics... Altho I felt sick when I saw the Murcielago with the light liners, WHY would any one do that?! Iranians are weird by putting such ugly add ons on their cars.

Anyway... Iranian manufacturers not in Iran but owned/founded by an extremely rich Iranian who fancied a stab at making super cars :D

Arash Farboud (from wiki)

Arash Farboud attended St. Faith's and then The Perse School, Cambridge. He founded a company making exotic British automobiles in 1998. The original car building was prompted by the refusal by Porsche GmbH to sell Arash Farboud a GT1 Road Car. The Porsche 911 GT1 had just swept to victory in the 24 hours of Le Mans, but road cars were by invitation only. Only 5 road going GT1s were made and used, ironically, mostly for racing, with one saved for the Porsche Museum. The sale of the Farboud family business, specialising in sterile medical supplies provided the funds; and the snub by Porsche provided the reason d'etre. Arash Farboud continues to run the family's property, land, investments and other medical businesses that were not sold. He is still very involved with Farboud Sports Cars and is currently working with the team in Bristol; as well as working on his new range of supercars badged 'Arash Cars' including his AF10 and racing car projects. Arash is renowned for his collection of supercars from Lamborghinis to a rare Carrera GT specially made for him in Germany by Porsche.

The GT and GTS

Farboud GTS

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/62/Farboud.png

Thus the first Farboud, the GT, was formed in the visage of the '96-'9 Porsche 911 GT1, powered by a twin-turbo v6 derived from the Audi S4. Porsche complained about the styling but only one vehicle was made and never sold on the open market. The Farboud GT turned up at the start of the 2005 Gumball 3000 rally in London as a star vehicle and continues to make appearances in the UK. Arash turned his mind to a more marketable car and hired a stylist fresh out of school to help him develop a compact supercar formed around the same drivetrain.

The resulting prototype, the GTS, was a compact car with a steel tube-frame with carbon fibre body panels, pushrod suspension with Öhlins dampers, and with power expected to be available up to 580 hp at production. The GTS was roundly received as a stunning car, mostly revered for its looks and expected to perform up to the promise of the body, even if at a cost. Link to Evo Pictures

Farboud Sports Cars

The farboud supercar company was started in 2004. It is believed the GTS was too big of a project for so small and expensive a team (Farboud had hired ex-MTM engine tuners and ex-Lotus chassis engineers), and Chris Marsh was asked by Arash Farboud in 2004 to take the reins of daily running of the company so Arash could concentrate on supercar projects, racing, and his other family business commitments. Marsh had experience working on the Marcos and Invicta British Sports cars, and was especially attracted to the Farboud for the unusually warm public reception to its looks, and was excited about how to bring the GTS to market profitably.

With the aim of maintaining the looks of the GTS and the expected performance, Marsh is rumored to have addressed some sore points, such as the low windshield header (higher for production with the profile maintained), the partially obscured rear window (original GTS had a decorative vent right in the middle), the expensive pushrod suspension (now seen to be upright coilovers positioned nearly vertically above the control arms), the expensive Öhlins dampers, and most disruptively, replacing the defunct audi-derived longitudinal turbocharged engine(s) with transversely positioned naturally aspirated and supercharged, cosworth-tuned Ford v6's based on the current Duratec found in Mondeos, Escapes and Five Hundreds.

Farboud Sports Cars is currently finalising production of the Farboud GTS as of Summer 2006. The marque of the company is a yellow bow and arrow taken from the character Arash, an archer from Persian mythology. The mark is a lucky charm that Arash wished to use after learning stories about the mythical character as a child.

Farboud exportation for the USA will be based in Miami, Florida. Farboud plans to have 50 GTS cars for export to the USA when production models are complete by 2006. Farboud also hopes to export 20 GTS cars to Japan once a final production model is complete. On-road production for the GTS is on track to be completed in late Summer of 2006. The suggested price of the GTS so far listed is £48,175.

The Farboud GTS is featured in the Xbox 360 game: Project Gotham Racing 3 and Test Drive Unlimited.

Arash Cars

http://www.arashcars.com/assets/ArashLogoCI.jpg

Arash Farboud, unhappy to see the planned GTS (Öhlins pushrod suspension, longitudinal 2.8L twin-turbo Audi-derived v6) so watered down from his original concept of a road-going racecar has formed a separate company, Arash Cars [1]. In mid-2006 Arash published sketches for their new car, the Arash AF10. Based on the graphics released, the car looks similar to the Enzo Ferrari, but powered by a Corvette V8 engine. The AF10 is priced at £170,000 apiece, about 1/3rd of the Enzo's list price. Although the original sketches have been compared to the Enzo, a mock up of the proposed shape showed an evolution away from the sketches in order to compensate for door openings and the result of wind tunnel testing for air vents. The wheel base has also been extended after a secret running prototype had revealed a better stability at higher speeds. (Source - speaking directly to the factory)

AF10 is now being designed and assembled at his Cambridge facilities, with a close knit team able to make the car exactly as he wishes. Although the car is not likely produced in high volumes, it will cater for a small number of customers and loyal followers of his work for the next few years.

Samand Exports to Turkey Resumed

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Samand exports to the Turkish market will soon be resumed said Manouchehr Manteqi, Managing Director of Iran-Khodro car manufacturing company, manufacturer of Samand passenger car.

Manteqi said that his company has received the required standards from the Turkish industries ministry and that the first cargo would be exported to Turkey in mid April.

He said each monthly cargo will contain 300 cars which could be increased to 10,000 till next (Iranian) year.

More than 21 authoritative agency and spare parts providing stores have so far launched operation in 7 cities in Turkey to provide the after-sale services for Samand.

The official also stated that an annual number of 300 thousand cars from various world countries and factories are imported to Turkey each year and that Samand can have a good and tight competition with the said imports, considering its desirable technical particulars and possibilities.

Iran car exports doubles

Tue, 03 Apr 2007 09:51:47

Iran auto exports exceeded $500 million in the Iranian year of 1385 (ended March 20, 2007), as sales doubled to 38,000 units ISNA reported. This represents an increase of 354 percent over the previous year's sales volume of $110 million.

Iran's top carmaker Iran Khodro Co. outperformed other domestic manufacturers, launching assembly lines in Syria, Azerbaijan, Venezuela and Belarus. The company exported more than 22,000 cars, a fourfold increase over figures from the previous year.

The company's exports remain insignificant compared to its supply of 500,000 automobiles in the domestic market, for a ratio of one out of 23 cars manufactured being sold abroad.

The carmaker is seeking to increase its exports to more than 100,000 cars in the current Iranian year. To help reach that goal assembly lines are planned in China and Senegal.

Iran's other major auto manufacturer Saipa has announced plans to set up assembly lines in five countries. It exported 15,000 cars in the last Iranian year. That figure equals a 50 percent increase over the preceding year. The company has set a goal of exporting 70,000 cars per annum by 2011.

Saipa has already launched a production site in Venezuela and intends to start up another facility in Syria in the coming months with a total manufacturing capacity of 15,000 cars per annum.

The Iranian car industry is beset by a number of export hurdles including outdated designs and the heavy customs duties the products are subject to because of the country's non-membership in regional economic accords.

Meanwhile, Syria and Russia continue to be Iran's main target markets, soaking up more than 50 percent of the country's exports.

Iran is seeking to export of 250,000 cars per annum to 40 countries by 2011.

The Tondar-90 is the Dacia/Renault Logan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dacia_Logan), which is being assembled in Iran (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dacia_Logan#Marketing_and_production) by a consortium of Renault, Pars Khodro and Iran Khodro.

The Sonbol must be the Sobol van from Russian manufacturer GAZ. GAZ's GAZelle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GAZelle) van is apparently assembled by Iran Khodro as the Ghazal. I've no idea what the difference between the GAZelle and the Sobol is. :)

P.S. Renault Pars (http://www.renault.co.ir/?lang=en&page=02-01-01) is Renault's joint venture in Iran:
Renault Pars is held 51% by Renault and 49% by Aidco (Automotive Industrial Development Company), a common entity comprised of IDRO, Iran Khodro and Saipa. Renault Pars is the first JV created in automotive sector in Iran according with FIPPA* regulation (FIPPA: Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Act).

Iran Khodro to unveil new products
TEHRAN, Apr. 6 (MNA) -- The vans R90 and Sobol, Peugeot 307, new versions of Peugeot 405 and 206 and a budget car as well as the minibus 518 are among the new products scheduled to roll out of Iran Khodro Co., noted Manuchehr Manteqi, the company’s managing director on Tuesday.

Referring to the new Iranian year (started March 21) as a turning point in the history of Iran Khodro, he said that in addition to boosting production, enhancing quality and increasing exports, the industrial group was planning to offer new products in this year.

He elaborated on the company’s decision in the current year for the production of 635,000 passenger cars and said that 538,400 units of the manufactured vehicles were to be offered to the domestic market and the rest would be exported.

He also announced that in the current year, the company planned to export $700 million of automotive products including 76,500 completely built units (CBU), 20,100 semi-knocked down (SKD) units, $100 million completely-knocked down (CKD) commercial vehicles, $100 million rail products as well as $30 million of technical and engineering services.

Manteqi further explained that exports from Iran Khodro in the past year hit $310 million and included sedans ($185 million), commercial vehicles ($36.5 million), auto parts ($60 million), rail equipments ($16 million) and technical and engineering services ($14 million).

Ban on Most Foreign Cars

Except two types of vans and one type of Pajero, orders to import foreign automobiles have been prohibited as of March 2007, said head of the order department at Tehran province Trade Department.

Sasan Khodaei explained to Fars on Sunday that automobile manufacturers’ agencies in Iran have not renewed their licenses. “These manufacturers have not received licenses from Fuel Consumption Optimization Organization, the Department of Environment and Institute of Standard and Industrial Research of Iran either,“ he added. “All imported vehicles require these three licenses,“ Khodaei said.

Import of these cars is contingent upon the issuance of these licenses, he noted. Meanwhile, a manager of Car Dealers Union told Fars that the ban on importing cars will not affect the price of domestically produced cars since the market, which is currently suffering a depression, is oversupplied with domestic cars.

Amir Yousefi added due to high production, car prices have dropped and this trend is expected to continue. The base and marginal price of cars which is determined by car dealers is one of the indices that domestic car manufacturers consider in order to decide on a final price for their productions.

Heavy imports of such vehicles as Mercedes and BMW are down to extremely good international relations with their home nation... Banning their vehicles being entered into Iran and sold will break down those relations, especially as Germany is one of the few European nations that has some support for Iran...

Such examples of relations breaking down due to auto trade being halted in the past is when Iran - Turkey deal over the Samand and Renault Megan was briefly scrapped.. Turk-Iran relations took a brief step back...

Also regarding the article.. Funny how the Pajero, a 'gas guzzler' has passed the fuel consumption/polluter test they have goin on... :|

IKCO to set up automaking base in southern Iran
TEHRAN, April 20 (MNA) –- Iranian carmaker Iran Khodro Co. (IKCO) is planning to set up an auto production plant in Shiraz, the capital of southern province of Fars.

The recent move by IKCO to establish a light and heavy vehicles production plant in Shiraz is a new milestone in the industrial growth and development of Fars Province, Minister of Industries and Mines Alireza Tahmasbi said during a ceremony held for the opening of IKCO’s first production.

Equal distribution of the automobile production factories around the country is a policy adopted by the ministry, said the official, adding that Iran Khodro Industrial Group has undertaken to accomplish the task and has taken important steps to that effect.

For his part, the Managing Director of Iran Khodro Co. Manuchehr Manteqi commented IKCO enjoying the government’s support has reached a point where it can guarantee its future presence as a distinguished car manufacturer in the global markets, ILNA news agency reported on Friday.

Well said! I would actually be embarassed driving one of these things around, not proud. Its like telling everyone how much you earn and expecting them to be impressed that your a fat cat/corrupt official or something.
I dont know why we are discussing these types of cars on this forum. They are not Iranian, they are German imports. Any old dustbowl/banana republic will have some rich people driving cars like this around. Actually Ive noticed that in some really rich countries like Finland, you never see cars like this because they dont have that kind of mental complex where they have to show the wealth. Iran has much more to be proud of than these, like an auto industry.

Iran to manufacture Mazda 3

(ISNA)

Mazda 3 with a 2 l engine will be manufactured in Iran.

Iranian car producer, Bahman has placed this 147hp car on this year production list.

The 3 has athletic handling, refined engines, strong brakes, sharp styling, top-notch build, materials quality and hatchback utility.

Tire-pressure monitor, an auxiliary input jack for the stereo, a rear-seat center armrest and an additional power point in the console are among some of this sedan's features.

The 3 offers a choice of two body styles: a four-door with a trunk or a four-door with a hatchback which employ a 148-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The engine is equipped with variable valve timing to improve response and efficiency.

The 3 also boasts superior handling and ride dynamics compared to most economy cars. Blessed with some chassis components from Mazda's 6 midsize sedan and spot-on tuning, the 3 handles like a bargain sport sedan.

To go along with its impressive hardware, the 3 offers stylish design inside and out, with the taut, chiseled body hinting at its athletic personality. Inside, the 3 benefits from a number of new upscale features, such as a standard rear-seat center armrest and audio input jack (for MP3 players).

The traffic can get pretty bad... I think it is fairly safe to say that in the late night/early morning hours you will still find traffic jams in uptown Tehran...

About the Mercedes'... They were paid for before the revolution, decades before they were actually delivered... When they were delivered there were very few cars on the streets that could beat them, only in recent years we have seen much more powerful cars on Iranian streets... Regarding motorbikes, the public can only ride bikes under 250cc unless they have a special licence granted by the government... High powered bikes are general ridden by Basijis...

Anyways....

Technical problems put brake on Megane production
TEHRAN, June 2 (MNA) -- Iran would start Megane production after removing all executive and technical problems, an Industries and Mines Ministry official said here Saturday.

French carmaker Renault was to build its Megane saloon model in Iran from 2006.

The firm's joint venture with Iran's Industrial Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO) and two leading carmakers was to make about 15,000 Meganes a year.

The car is the second to be introduced by Renault to Iran following the Logan, a stripped-down version of the Clio Supermini.

Renault had announced that together with Iran Khodro and SAIPA, Iran's two biggest carmakers, it expected to up production of the Megane at Khodro's Tehran plant to some 50,000 units annually within a few years.

“Megane assembly line has not been yet run in Iran since it is still facing executive problems,” Hassan Kaboli talking to MNA added.

He reiterated production is only possible after solving all existing problems, adding “We had earlier faced the same problems with Megane.”

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagen, short for Geländewagen (or cross-country vehicle), is a four-wheel drive vehicle / luxury SUV produced by German automaker Mercedes-Benz. It was born by proposals for a military vehicle in the early 1970s by the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran, a major Daimler-Benz shareholder. Production of the G-Class began in 1979 with the 460 Series models.

Never knew that. But guess he did not have time to enjoy the G in Iran.

Do you know the name of the documentary?

The Shah love the Mercedes Benz (he had the 10% of Mercedes Benz, now the 10% is for his wife Farah Diba).

The cars are very nice!! Do you have more photos??

His son Reza Ciro had the Countach LP400 of the photos and his wife Farah Diba too :)

Do you have photos of the cars of the Shah unrestored in a very big room near the Museum?

Regards!!
