Fiat to debut its Siena in Iran

The managing director of the Pars Industrial Development Foundation (also known as TOPCO car manufacturing group) announced here on Sunday that the Italian automobile manufacturer company Fiat will launch its assembly line of Siena sedan in Iran in the coming autumn. Talking to Fars News Agency, Sadeq Bairami said that the company’s main deal with the Italian automaker company is the production of the five most successful and popular models of Fiat in Iran namely Siena, Palio, Strada, Weekend, and Idea under the same platform referred to as 178.

Siena sedan is equipped with the facilities including ABS brake system, both sides’ airbag, hydraulic wheel drive, cooling system, anti-theft alarm, lateral window and mirror, backseat seat belt, trip computer, remote control for car’s trunk and gas tank, door’s lateral protective bars in the case of accident, driver’s seat regulation system, CD player, and a trunk with 515 liters of capacity as well as an automatic gearbox.

The official added that the Fiat factory has been established in the City of Saveh with an advanced assembly and paint line hall in which the first model of Fiat (Siena) with 1.4-liters, 4-cylinders, and 77-horse power engine compatible to the latest standards of Euro 4 will be manufactured. The related agreement was signed in 2005 by the sides. The initial production of the sedan in Iran will be in the form of full CKD.

Kerman Motor Company says the first of the Lifan 520 automobile, produced by Iran and China, will hit the Iranian market in August. The dual-fuel vehicles with 1300cc-1600cc engines can run on both gasoline and CNG, Mohammad-Reza Alinaqi said. The vehicles, manufactured by Kerman Motor Company and Chongqing Lifan Industry (Group) in Iran, will be offered for sale at a price range of $15,000 to $19,000, he added.

"About 300 vehicles will be available beginning the second half of the Iranian month of Mordad [August 5]," Alinaqi said. The Iranian company is to manufacture 5,000 Lifan vehicles by the end of the current Iranian year (March 2009). Production capacity is expected to increase to 15,000 by March 2010 and 25,000 in March 2011. The Iranian and Chinese automakers are said to target middle-income Iranians between the ages of 20 and 35.

Iran sells over $15b of cars in fiscal year: official

Deputy Iranian minister of industries and mines here on Saturday announced that Iran has sold $15 billion worth of cars over the past fiscal year.
Ahmad Qal’ebani, also the director of Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO), said that in 1993, Iran’s sales of automobile industry was less than $1 billion. Moreover, the country imported some $800 million worth of parts.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of Iran Delco Company, he added that this progress indicates the vast efforts of the country’s automakers and especially parts manufacturers. He went on to explain that Iran Delco is a company manufacturing catalytic converters for the cars’ exhaust gases. It is the only company in the Middle East that produces high quality TWC (three way catalytic converters).

Qal’ebani added car parts manufacturers are proud of this achievement which was attained through the endeavors of an Iranian scientist. “15 years ago we could not imagine that we would be able to establish such manufacturing units,” he said. He expressed hope that similar advanced units will be established in the car-making industry.

I don't think the Lifan 520 is that bad. Lifan 520 does an average of 1 liter for 19KM, which for the Americans is around 45MPG. When driving it at 100KM/H it does 1 liter for 23KM or 55MPG.

Plus the fact that it is hybrid CNG is a great selling advantage for Iran.

I do agree that the with prices between 9.500 and 12.000 Euro. It is abit high for Iran, but it is lower than a Samand, comparible with a Kia Pride and you do get a bigger and updated car than the Pride.

I am not sure if its only the henchback, or all 520 models, but I read that The Lifan 520 is basicly a renewed Citroen ZX.

Also if you look at the manfuacturing numbers, it is more symbolic and to improve political relationships with China. 300 cars in the first year and 5.000 in the second year, is nothing for a country with 70 million inhabitants!

Fiat Group Autos SpA will begin manufacturing its Siena four-door sedan in Iran this fall, more than 3 1/2 years after signing an agreement with the Iranian car manufacturing company PIDF, a Fiat spokesman said Monday.

The launch of the long-delayed project marks Fiat's return to Iran after a 50-year hiatus. The agreement with the Pars Industrial Development Foundation (PIDF) initially foresees the assembly of 50,000 Siena's a year, expanding to 250,000 vehicles a year with the addition of the Palio hatchback, Palio Weekend station wagon and Strada pickup truck.

The vehicles are to be assembled at a plant in Saveh, 130 kilometers (80 miles) southwest of Tehran, using components imported from a Tofas factory in Turkey. PIDF is making an initially investment of €200 million (US$313 million).

The January 2005 press release announcing the deal said manufacture would begin in the second half of that year. Fiat did not elaborate on the reasons for the delay, saying they were internal company matters. Fiat has signed 34 partnership deals since CEO Sergio Marchionne took over in 2004 as part of his strategy of sharing costs and entering key markets, including China and Russia.

To carry the Renault eco2 signature, a car must meet three criteria, on manufacturing, CO2 emissions and recycling.

I hope they sell that Tondar 90 in Iran - A good way to reduce the air pollution that plagues the cities.

Producing 1.150 million cars per annum, IKCO ranks the 16th in the world’s car industry.

Iran's number one automaker, Iran Khodro is set to begin the import of Peugeot's popular passenger car within the next two months. The French automaker reached an agreement with Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) to sell Peugeot 407 complete build-up units (CBU), Ahmad Ne'mat, secretary of Iran's Automaker Association told Fars news agency on Monday.

The announcement came despite a Financial Times report which said the French and British embassies "have dramatically scaled back their trade sections amid a slowdown in business ties with Iran caused by international sanctions."

IKCO officials say the new Peugeot sedan will be launched in Iran at the end of summer. "Iran Khodro will start assembly of Peugeot 407 at home if the automobiles would be welcomed by Iranian customers," Ne'mat explained. French cars have a significant presence in Iran's streets. IKCO assembles and manufactures French automobiles such as the Peugeot 405 and 206 under the Peugeot Company license. The dual-fuel, 2.2-liter Peugeot 407 is likely to sell in Iran for approximately $65,000.

IKCO to produce diesel 206 SD for export

The deputy managing director of the Iran Khodro Company here on Wednesday announced that the company will manufacture export-bound diesel powered 206 SD sedan by the next two or three months.

According to Fars News Agency Hossein Najari said, “If the diesel powered 206 SD satisfies the target markets, the company will manufacture and export diesel-fueled Samand sedans.” A sedan model developed in Iran under the name "Peugeot 206 SD" was jointly designed by Peugeot and Iran Khodro. It is the fifth and last version of Peugeot 206 models.

Fantastic, skipped the 406 all together! I assume the 407 is one of the 11 new models ICKO will be producing...

Iran's biggest car assembly line opens

Iran's biggest car assembly lines will be inaugurated Saturday at the Iran Khodro Khorasan plant in the presence of President Ahmadinejad. The inauguration of the car body and paint assembly lines at the Iran Khodro Khorasan (IKK) plant, with an investment of $140.55 million, will enable the plant to produce 45 vehicles an hour, said Mohammad Mehdi Siadat, the Managing Director of the IKK plant.

The production capacity of the plant will reach 100,000 vehicles a year by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (ending March 20, 2009), he added. IKK was the 48th largest firm in the country last year, with sales of over $1 billion, a figure expected to rise to nearly $1.568 billion by the end of the current Iranian year. IKCO is the largest carmaker in the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa, with an annual production of more than one million vehicles of various models, including sedans, trucks, minibuses and buses.

Iran, Malaysia to assemble budget car

Iranian auto manufacturer Saipa is to partner with Malaysia's Proton to create a budget car that would replace the Pride model series. The first vehicle model to be jointly manufactured by the two automakers will be an inexpensive sedan in the A class designed to secure a suitable global market share, said Saipa Managing Director Mehrdad Bazrpash at the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the two auto firms.

Zagros Khodro currently cooperates with Proton in the distribution of Proton vehicles but Saipa's cooperation with Proton will be on a different level. The cooperation between Saipa and Proton will be in the areas of design, production, distribution, marketing and sales as well as research and development, Bazrpash said.

Proton and SAIPA partner up for budget sedan in Iran



Iranian automotive company SAIPA and Proton has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enter a strategic partnership that would result in the two companies collaborating in areas of R&D, marketing, sales, JV investments, and supply networks.

The first project will be an inexpensive small sedan that will replace the SAIPA Pride (SAIPA Saba, SAIBA Nasim), a rebadged version of the ancient 1987 Kia Pride which was in turn a rebadged version of the Ford Festiva, or Mazda 121. That generation of the Kia Pride has since been replaced by the Kia Rio.

The new SAIPA compact will likely be based on an existing Proton model or platform similiar to how Chinese automaker Youngman is using the Proton GEN2 for its Europestar RCR. Like China, Iran is a left hand drive market.

It’s interesting to note that one of SAIPA’s subsidiaries (51% owned) Pars Khodro began manufacturing the Dacia Logan in Iran in 2006.

Iran's Samand popular in Turkey

"The number of Samand LX sedans exported to the neighboring country is expected to hit 2,000 units in 2008," said Mohammad-Hossein Yazdi, the company's export director, on Monday. The Iranian automaker is set to launch an auto manufacturing plant in 2009 in Turkey, where almost all major global auto producers have facilities.

The giant auto manufacturing companies from the US, Japan, Europe and China are involved in stiff competition to dominate the Turkish market. Gaining a foothold in the Turkish car market is difficult, Yigit Seskir, general manager of MYS Holding, the Turkish distributor for Samand cars, said. "However, Iran Khodro Company has managed to have a significant presence in this market over the past a year and a half."

A Vespa would surely cost more than a Peykan. Peykans are not made anymore and can only be bought used. Vespa's are chic designer Italian scooters. Im sure there are some rich people that will be in the market for 407s.

Iran's hybrid car production booming

Iranian companies have increased production of dual-fuel vehicles as part of the general plan to manufacture less gasoline-powered cars. “Iranian automakers have produced more than 120,000 vehicles that use natural gas and regular gasoline in the first quarter of the current (Iranian calendar) year (March 20-July 21),” Iranian Minister of Industries and Mines Ali-Akbar Mehrabian said on Sunday in Tehran.

Iranian car manufacturers, including the country's number one automaker Iran Khodro, have increased production of cars that utilize both gasoline and compressed natural gas (CNG) by about 20-fold over the past two years. “Hybrid car production rose to 429,000 last year from 20,000 two years ago,” Mehrabian said at Iran's first national conference on CNG, which was held in the capital from August 2 to 3. The boom in hybrid car production has been encouraged by the government to reduce dependence on gasoline.

Iran, the world's fourth-largest oil producer, lacks adequate refining capacity to produce gasoline and spends huge sums on imports, which burdens state coffers. The country introduced a gasoline rationing program in June 2007 to reduce the excessive gasoline consumption.

"Sixty percent of passenger cars produced this year will use natural gas as fuel or will be dual-fuel, and the remaining 40 percent will run on regular gasoline," read a cabinet statement released in June 2008.

The decision, applying to Iranian calendar year 1387 (ends March 20, 2009) came in the wake of sweeping revisions announced in the gasoline rationing plan on June 7 . Among the changes was a measure that required owners of luxury vehicles to purchase premium gasoline at market prices as of June 21 instead of heavily subsidized regular unleaded fuel.

Iran, World's 10th Automaker

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran has the world's tenth largest auto making industry, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) said.


According to the UNIDO's International Yearbook of Industrial Statistics 2008, Japan has the largest auto industry in the world, followed by the United States and Germany.

Mexico, France, South Korea, Britain, Canada, Spain and Iran ranked fourth to tenth, followed by Sweden, India, Brazil, Italy and Indonesia. Among the developing nations, Iran's auto industry is placed third after Mexico and South Korea.

Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) is the largest car maker in Iran and the Middle East.

It exports the country's first national vehicle, Samand, to a number of countries, including Belarus, Russia, Syria, Turkey, Tajikistan, Vietnam and Venezuela.

SAIPA and Pars Khodro are also among major Iranian automakers which have participated in joint projects with France's Citroen and Renault, Japan's Nissan and South Korea's KIA Motors.

Iran Khodro Company, a major industrial manufacturer, produces cars for the domestic and export markets. Founded in 1962, Iran Khodro was originally called 'Iran National' before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Saipa, established in 1966, assembled the two-cylinder Citroen mini passenger car, the Jyane, and manufactured licensed versions of the original Renault 5, Renault 21 and Kia Pride.

Production of Saipa Pride continued until 2005. They later introduced an updated versions based on the Pride called the Saipa 141 while continuing to sell their version of the Pride under the names Saba and Nasim.

Saipa also produces the Citroen Xantia under license as well as assembling sedan models of the previous generation Kia Rio using parts imported from South Korea.

In 2000, Saipa launched its own design, the 701 Caravan minivan, which was face-lifted in 2003.

In addition to the privatization plans, car makers have been asked to scale down production of gasoline-fueled vehicles and increase production of cars with dual-fuel and natural gas engines. Sixty percent of passenger cars produced this year will use natural gas as fuel or will be dual-fuel, and the remaining 40 percent will run on regular gasoline.

Experts say private car makers can more efficiently deliver many goods or services than government due to competition. In general, it is argued that over time this will lead to lower car prices, improved quality, more choices, less red tape and quicker delivery.

In addition, Saipa recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Malaysia’s Proton to jointly develop a new compact sedan to replace the ubiquitous Saipa Pride.

Zagross Khodro is already selling the Proton Gen2, Wira and Impian. So it's probally going to be a car based on the Satria. I hope it is not the first generation (1995). But that is still a big step ahead from the 1987 Kia Pride.

The "wira" is the compact sedan version of the older "satria". This car began as the 1992 Mitsubishi Colt. So it cant be the old Satria or Wira anyway if Zagross already make it but who knows.

Iran Khodro Group (IKCO) manufactures various vehicle models in seven countries across the globe, reports managing director of the company. The production capacity of these plants is a total 225,000 vehicles per year, said Manouchehr Manteqi at the inauguration ceremony of the country's largest international auto exhibition in Mashhad. Manteqi said the value of IKCO's automobile exports last year was $500 million. Products were exported to a number of countries including France, Russia and Syria. Currently 166 IKCO after-sales offices operate in various countries.

IKCO has produced three million vehicles in the past six years alone, which is equivalent to its total production over the previous 36 years. The company currently produces 10 vehicles under 54 brand names. The automotive industry in Iran is the second largest after pharmaceuticals, he added.

Iran’s giant automaker Iran Khodro plans to unveil three new sedans by March 2009. Two of the sedans are the advanced models of the Peugeot Pars and ROA, and the other one is a new model of the Samand sedan Sarir. Iran Khodro Diesel, a subsidiary of the Iran Khodro Company (IKCO), exported 900 billion rials ($94 million) worth of products in the last Iranian calendar year (ended March 19, 2008) to eight countries, the IKCO Diesel deputy director for marketing and sales affairs said at a press conference in Mashhad on Saturday.

On the sidelines of the Eighth Motor Show in Mashhad, Masud Bahrami said that Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Iraq, Syria, Belarus, and the Ivory Coast were the target markets for the IKCO’s products.

Iran Khodro is the largest automotive producer in the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa regions, with an annual production of around 1,000,000 various vehicles including cars (550,000 unit), buses, trucks and pick-ups. This figure also places it as the 20th biggest automotive producer globally. Iran Khodro produces Iran’s first national car, the Samand, which is based on the Peugeot 405 platform. The firm has a long-term relationship with PSA Peugeot Citroën, and assembles a number of Peugeot models under licence from the French firm. It also makes trucks and buses under license from Mercedes-Benz.

Chery to hit Iranian roads by January

An Iranian carmaker has struck a deal with Chery, the largest independent car company in China, to assemble 6,000 vehicles in 2009. The announcement was made by Seyyed Hossein Ahmadi, head of the Industries and Mines Department of Khorasan Razavi province, at an auto fair in the capital city Mashhad.

Sanabad Khorasan Khodro, an affiliate of Iran Khodro -- the Middle East's largest carmaker -- will begin assembly of the vehicles in January 2009 in the northeastern Khorasan Razavi province, and will use Chinese technology. The Iranian and Chinese companies have spent over one year negotiating the deal. Production will increase significantly in 2010 with 30,000 Chery cars planned for year two of the venture.

In 2007, China's biggest domestic automaker, Chery, announced it would open a factory in Iran. The manufacturer is expanding rapidly into foreign markets and has announced joint ventures with American-owned Chrysler, and Fiat -- an Italian car company. Chery also assembles vehicles with partners in Russia, Ukraine, Egypt, Uruguay and Indonesia. The factory will assemble Chery's compact S21 sedan, also known as the QQ6, from kits supplied by Chery. The vehicles are to be sold in Iran and neighboring countries.

IKCO to be 4th largest Asian automaker

Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) will soon become the fourth largest Asian auto manufacturing firm if the current production trend continues. Currently auto manufacturers from Japan, South Korea, China and India are the top auto manufacturers in Asia.

IKCO has produced three million vehicles in the past six years alone, which is equivalent to its total production over the previous 36 years, said Manuchehr Manteqi while referring to the 42 years production of the company. IKCO plans to increase its production to one million vehicles in a year by January of 2009 out of which 800,000 will be produced at the domestic plants and the remaining 200,000 vehicles will be produced at sites outside of Iran.

IKCO had produced around 100,000 vehicles in the last 10 years while that level of output was raised to 600,000 vehicles last year, he added. The company currently produces 10 vehicles under 52 brand names. Iran Khodro Group also manufactures various vehicle models in seven countries across the glob.

About 70-90 percent of the parts of vehicles manufactured at the company are internally produced, Manteqi noted. IKCO used to design vehicle parts based on obtained licenses but currently the company's own engineers design the parts. Manteqi also said the company is capable to design and manufacture assembly lines at any automation level in any part of the world.

IKCO owns a brand name with an estimated value of $400 billion which added to the company's assets. New products of IKCO such as the youth Samand, auto wheelchair Samand, second generation of natural gas-powered Roa, R90 (7-seat van) and new dual-fuel Peugeot sedan 470 were inaugurated in he country's largest international auto exhibition in Mashhad and will soon hit the market.

Iran unveils plan for women's car

Iran has announced plans for a new car designed specially for women.

Its features will include automatic transmission, parking and navigation aids and a jack for changing tyres without getting grease on your chador.

Iran's biggest car producer, Iran Khodro, says it will come in a range of feminine colours and interior designs.

Other features are proposed to make it easier for women when they are doing the family shopping or taking their children to school.

If that suggests a degree of sexist stereotyping in Iranian society, it is, just possibly, true.

Despite the fact that Iranian women now make up around 60% of university students, Iranian men have yet to absorb fully the message of equality.

A recent study by an academic from Allameh Tabatabaii University in Tehran found that working Iranian women believed that the domestic chores should be shared more equally.

However, according to the report "their husbands think and act traditionally".

Indeed, the idea of married men cooking for their wives is viewed in Iran as highly eccentric.

As a result, the report concludes, Iran's new generation of working women "are obliged to play the role of a superwoman to resolve their contradictions in handling all tasks."

It says such women "have become increasingly frustrated with their life".

'Modesty bikes'

Officially, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad insists that Iranian women are the most equal in the world.

And the authorities proudly boast of the achievements and opportunities open to Iranian women.

But the official Iranian concept of equality is very different from that understood by Western feminists.

Among the more eccentric policies here, Iran recently announced plans for a special bicycle for women.

None of the machines has been spotted yet, but apparently the idea is to provide special covers, to help preserve female modesty as they pedal.

Women, however, are still banned from riding motorcycles.

However, they can often be seen perched on the back, sometimes with one or two small children in their arms, as their husband weaves through the Iranian traffic.

Iran car maker says French politics hampering ventures

The chairman of Iran's biggest car maker accused France of "inappropriate policies", which he said are hampering joint ventures in a country where French manufacturers have a 40 to 50 percent market share. France is Iran's biggest trading partner but "surprisingly, in financial matters their treatment of us is like one with a country of few bilateral ties," Manouchehr Manteghi, chairman of Iran Khodro Company (IKCO), told AFP. In July, IKCO, Iran's biggest car company, celebrated the 20th year of cooperation with Peugeot, whose 405 and 206 ranges it manufactures under licence. Seven different Peugeot models accounted for about 64 percent of the total 542,000 passengers cars and pickups produced by Manteghi's company in 2007.

In addition, IKCO and the country's second-largest car manufacturer Saipa produce the Logan in a joint venture with Renault worth hundreds of millions of dollars. "The first problem we have with Peugeot and Renault is basically France's policies," Manteghi said. Since President Nicolas Sarkozy's election in 2007, France has toughened its position towards Iran and has supported UN Security Council sanctions against Iran for its failure to heed ultimatums to suspend uranium enrichment. "Given they seem to be moving in line with US politics, they are (significantly) harming our trade level, which has been built up with much mutual energy and efforts," the IKCO chairman said.

Despite acknowledging the impact of sanctions, Manteghi rejected any notion that the measures might damage the company. "Sanctions may increase costs but they can not stop us in terms of technology," he said. "With our sites in Tehran, (the northeastern province of) Khorasan and abroad, we will achieve a production capacity of one million cars per year in about 18 months," Manteghi said.

Iran's total fleet of around 10 million passenger cars and pickups also includes brands like South Korean Hyundai, Germany's Mercedes Benz and BMW as well as Japan's Toyota and Mazda -- eye-catchers in big cities. However, IKCO already holds a 60 percent share of the Islamic republic's home market and is focussing its growth plans on foreign markets with a view to becoming Asia's number-four car producer. Group sales in 2007 reached about 9 billion dollars and the chairman has an ambitious expansion timetable for coming years." We plan to increase sales to 20 billion dollars in 2010" followed by another doubling by 2015, he said.

The value of IKCO's exports rose from 150 million dollars in 2005 to 510 million dollars in 2007 and the target this year is 700 million dollars. Foreign markets the company supplies include Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and the Commonwealth of Independent States. IKCO has built manufacturing plants in countries including Egypt, Senegal and Syria. "The priority to target a market is its economic advantages. But political issues also facilitate and accelerate the job," Manteghi said.

IKCO group, a public joint stock company established by private owners in 1962, no longer produces only passenger cars, trucks, buses and parts. It is also involved in the rail sector, airport installations and the refinery industry. With a registered capital of 6.3 trillion rials (over 635 million dollars) on the stock market, IKCO's shareholders plan to increase this to 8 trillion rials (close to 810 million dollars) in the current Iranian year, to March 2009). According to Manteghi, the company's assets are worth 10 times more than its share capital.

To secure the needed cash, IKCO is modifying its financial structure by selling some of its properties. In addition, as it heads towards automation, the company will reduce its 37,000 workforce, he said. The Logan-90 project, signed in March 2004, had a chequered history and was held up by a disagreement on whether the cars could be exported from Iran to markets where Renault is already present. The production target for 2008 was 75,000, but according to Manteghi only around 45,000 have been produced.
Manteghi blamed the "methodology chosen by Renault in relations with Iranian part makers as well as a miscalculated cash flow". "Renault handed over the matter of primary materials to part manufacturers and they got into trouble because they did not have a strong (financial) basis," he said.

Logan-90 production problems will be mostly overcome in 2009, the chairman predicted, noting that IKCO plans to use Logan's assembly line to manufacture vans and pickups in the near future.

Restrictions for Car Imports


Under a new plan drafted by the Commerce Ministry and Iran’s Customs Administration, new restrictions will soon be imposed on individual car imports from abroad, especially Dubai.

Head of Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran, Nezameddin Barzegari told Iran Daily’s Sadeq Dehqan that only car brands which offer after-sales services will be allowed to enter the country. According to him, the institute will step up its efforts to oversee the production of standard cars in Iran starting from this month.

On contaminated Chinese milk, he said all milk imports are supervised by the institute and so far there has been no cases of contamination. However, last week, Iran banned the import of dairy products from China because of contamination concerns. According to the Health Ministry, the ban is in place until further notice. The ministry is assigning health workers to demolish Chinese dairy products currently on the Iranian market.

Iran car exports projected to reach $1b by March

The growth in Iran’s car exports is expected to rise to one billion dollars by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2009).
Growth is up 30 percent from $700 million worth of exports a year earlier, the Industries and Mines Deputy Minister Ahmad Qalebani said here on Tuesday. Addressing the First Conference on Innovation in the Automobile Industry in Iran University of Science and Technology, Qalebani stated that 75 percent of automobile parts are domestically manufactured and exported, “whereas, until a few years ago we imported the material needed to manufacture car parts. We also design automobiles and engines,” he noted.

The official called for more innovation and creativity. “The automobile industry needs further innovation and creativity for a strong, constant, and dynamic presence in international markets and appropriate profit-making through exports.” He also stated that Iranian experts should make efforts to increase vehicle safety, improve fuel conservation, and reduce the end price of cars, and called upon universities and industrial institutions to increase their cooperation.

Iranian drivers fall for economical car

Three years ago, when Iran’s biggest car company stopped making the Paykan – a box-shaped saloon modelled on the 1960s-era British Hillman Hunter – many Iranians regarded it as a loss to their way of life. But now a more economical car, built under a licence from South Korea’s Kia Motors, is king of the country’s roads. The Pride has been produced in Iran for about a decade, but it has only recently started to capture the hearts of the country’s motorists.

“The era of Paykan, a leftover from the British, is now a thing of the past,” says Reza, a 51-year-old driver who has swapped his Paykan for a Pride. The growing popularity of the Pride – pronounced “Per-ride” by most Iranians – is part of the rapid development of car manufacturing in Iran, which has become one of the country’s leading industries.

As standards of living have improved and aspirations have grown, car ownership is seen to be essential for many middle-class families. There is now one car for every dozen people in Iran. Those on lower incomes take second jobs as taxi drivers and drive the Pride to cope with an inflation rate of about 30 per cent. “The Pride is more economical and consumes less petrol than any other car,” says Mahmoud, a 34-year-old driver. Fuel in Iran costs only 9 cents a litre.

The Pride has made Saipa, its producer, the new market leader – a position that was held for decades by Khodro, Paykan’s producer (pictured below). Saipa has become Iran’s top carmaker for the second successive year, producing 482,000 vehicles. The Pride accounts for most of this production. Meanwhile, Khodro made 450,000 cars last year. Iran’s level of annual car production reached 1.15m in 2007, a seven-fold increase over the past decade.

The Paykan, which rather optimistically means arrow in Farsi, was brought to Iran in 1966 and generated billions of dollars for Khodro, which produced over 2m units. But there are now as many Prides as Paykans on Iran’s streets. “The Paykan was like a milch cow for Khodro, a role the Pride plays for Saipa now,” says Ahmad Nemat-Bakhsh, executive director of Iran’s vehicle manufacturers’ association.

Car industry experts warn that higher car production does not necessarily translate into supremacy for Saipa over Khodro. They stress that Khodro’s products are more varied and sophisticated, although the locally designed Samand, the replacement for the Paykan, is too expensive for many Iranians. Pride is the cheapest option in the market, selling for between $7,500 and $8,500, depending on the model. The profitability of vehicle manufacturing has meant that the businesses have become an issue in domestic politics, in the run-up to the presidential election next June.

Although carmakers are listed on the stock exchange, the government still owns about 40 per cent of Khodro and Saipa and appoints the heads of both companies. Mehrdad Bazrpash, the new managing director of Saipa, is a close ally of Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad, the president. Mr Bazrpash has launched a daily political newspaper, called Vatan-e Emrouz, meaning Today’s Homeland, and has said that he intends to support Mr Ahmadi-Nejad and his policies. It is not clear if the paper is funded by Saipa.

Opponents of the government suspect Mr Bazrpash’s appointment about a year ago means the car company could help finance the next election, in which Mr Ahmadi-Nejad is expected to run. Mr Bazrpash refused to answer questions on this issue. Politics aside, Mr Bazrpash needs to think of a long-term strategy if his company’s star car is to avoid meeting the same fate as the Paykan. “The Pride can only be produced for a maximum of one more year at this quality,” says Mr Nemat-Bakhsh. However, Iranian carmakers, who operate in a market protected from international competition by import tariffs of up to 100 per cent, have ignored such warnings in the past.

Iran imported only 50,000 cars last year, including those made by BMW, Mercedes, Toyota and Lexus. The country’s carmakers are still dependent on international markets for component parts. Giants such as France’s Peugeot and Renault have to provide about one-third of the spare parts that Iran needs. This has meant that Iran’s vehicle industry has been crippled by the sanctions exercised by the international community in reaction to the country’s nuclear programme. “It is undeniable that sanctions have created problems, making spare parts arrive with delay, while banks have to find a third country to transfer money,” Mr Nemat-Bakhsh says. He also says that sanctions have led to a 5 per cent rise in costs.

Such international hurdles could be one reason why both Khodro and Saipa have come up with the idea of producing so-called “Islamic” cars, observers say. With this branding the companies may be hoping to receive financial support from the government and assistance from Malaysia and Turkey, the other big car producers in the Islamic world.

Iran to build cars in Tajikistan

Iran and Tajikistan have reached an agreement that allows Iranian companies to set up a vehicle-manufacturing factory in Dushanbe soon. "We are eager to cooperate with Iran's vehicle-manufacturing industry," Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said after a visit to Iran's second-largest car company, Saipa. Tajikistan annually needs some 70,000 cars, Rahmon said, adding that Iranian manufactured automobiles could meet his county's needs.

Rahmon arrived in Tehran on Thursday for a two-day visit and met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The two signed a cooperation document calling for further collaboration in various fields. The two presidents also discussed setting up a railway among Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan.

Currently Iran Khodro Group (IKCO) manufactures various vehicle models in seven countries across the globe. IKCO, Middle East's biggest carmaker, announced that its sales reached about 9 billion dollars in 2007; it plans to increase sales to 20 billion dollars in 2010. IKCO has produced three million vehicles in the past six years alone.

Bugatti Type 57C Vanvooren Cabriolet:

In 1939 the french government gave this gift to King Pahlavi as a wedding gift, an exclusive Bugatti Cabriolet designed by Vanvooren. It represents the finest France had to offer for one of the greatest car enthusiasts of the day. One of the body's most ingenious features is the front windshield which can be lowered into the cowl and moved under the dashboard.

It stayed in Iran for more than 20 years, then it was sold for $275 and taken to the US. After its arrival in North America it suffered from a careless owner and was fitted with a V8 engine. A careful restoration by Rod Jolley of Lymington, Great Britain with the help of Louis Giron, a former Bugatti employee, returned the car to its original shape.

Now its in the hands of the Peterson Museum, notice the Iranian license plate:

Samand Soren comes top in a road test comparisson of four cars in Russia. The other three are from China. Online voting for readers favorites showed that the Samand Soren was by far their favorite with 60.6% of the vote. I think they should have compared it to European cars though.

At the inauguration of the Miniator production line on Saturday, Saipa CEO Mehrdad Bazrpash said the company plans to manufacture an annual 200,000 units of the car.

Miniator averages 7 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers and puts out 80 horsepower with a displacement of 1500cc, ISNA reported. Bazrpash said the automaker is already seeking to establish a foothold for the car in markets in the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia and Latin America.

According to Saipa, the retail price of the car would not exceed US $10,000 when it enters the markets in the next year.

This is a typical mistake homeowners in the US, EU, UK, Iran and most of the world make. They forget the devaluation of money.

The purhsasing power of 17.000.000 has been lost with around 18% (inflation). So Selling your car for 17.000.000 after 1 year is like selling it for 13.940.000. So it deed loose its value. Not even taking the currency devaluation into calculation.

It see it all the time with home owners.

Someone buys a house in 2000 for 200.000 euro's, inflation is 2.5% a year and the morgage intrest is 6% a year. In 2005 they sell their house for 220.000 and are happy that they made 20.000 euro!

If you calculate it, then they should have sold it for atleast 300.000 just to break-even.

It will do about 14KM per liter on the highway and 9KM per liter in the city. For US readers, that is 34MPG on the highway and 21MPG in the city. Not that good for european standards, good for Iranian standards and excellent for US standards ;)

Although Iran is not making amazing cars, it is making progress. Yes, these cars are not the best looking, but in terms of design, safety and luxury they are much, much beter than the Paykan. Iran has 400.000 car accidents a year and around 50.000 fatal accidents! Hopefuly these cars can contribute to reducing those fatal accidents, although educating people about how to drive, will also be a major improvement.

The car shown above is indeed based on the 206 sedan and it is not the new Samand! But a prototype new car by Iran Khodro. On the car is says ARTEL and not SAMAND.

Proton To Go Deeper Into Iranian Market

Malaysia's Proton Holdings Bhd aims to push 5,000 Proton vehicles in the Iranian market this year, 10,000 in 2009 and work its way to eventually reach 50,000 units beyond that. Its managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said Iran represented a big potential for Proton, with the total industry volume in this Islamic republic of 70 million people hovering at about 1.4 million cars a year.

"The car-per-population ratio here is about one to 10, so there's still a long way to go in terms of maturity. Obviously it's matter of giving the right products to the right market. If you look at, say, only 10 percent of the market share, that's already 140,000 cars," he told Malaysian journalists covering the visit of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to Iran. Yesterday, Abdullah witnessed the signing of an agreement between Proton and its Iranian partner, Zagross Khodro, for the supply of automotive parts that allows the latter to assemble the Proton Gen.2 model through a completely knocked-down (CKD) arrangement.

The first production of the model is expected to start in April 2009 at Zagross' vehicle assembly plant in Borujerd city, southwest of Iran, with a production capacity of 25,000 units per year. "Right now we don't have any investment (in Iran). We provide the technical support for the assembly, the training. But I think in the long term, we have to see whether there is any opportunity for us to invest in Iran," said Syed Zainal Abidin. Touching on Proton's presence in this country, he said: "So far we have CKD for the Wira and the Gen.2 is the next step. Going forward, we hope to introduce the Saga and Persona models next year."

The Proton Waja, called the Impian here, can be seen roaming the streets of Tehran as taxis.

Proton GEN2 to be assembled in Iran


An agreement has been inked between Proton and Iranian distributor Zagross Khodro for the supply of automotive parts to Iran which will allow Zagross Khodro to assemble CKD kits of the Proton GEN2 in Iran. Assembling the Proton GEN2 locally in Iran will enable more competitive pricing.

The first locally assembled Proton GEN2s are expected to roll off Iranian assembly lines in April 2009 from Zagross Khodro’s assembly plant in Borujerd city, southwest of Iran. The two companies have previously inked two other agreements on licensing, technical assistance and equipment purchase.

Proton and Zagross Khodro’s CKD partnership goes back to the early 2000s where the latter assembled and sold the Proton Wira in Iran. It previously sold fully imported Proton cars in the Iranian market. Zagross Khodro was established in 1996 and claims to be Iran’s largest private automotive company.

Iran carmaker to raise output despite global auto woes

Iran Khodro, the Middle East's biggest carmaker, said on Tuesday it aims to boost output and exports in coming years despite a global downturn for the sector and Western sanctions on the country that have pushed up costs. Manouchehr Manteghi, chief executive and president of the partly-state-owned Iranian company, also said it wants to reduce its dependence on foreign-made components and that it is ready to be privatised if the government so decided. He told reporters Iran Khodro was profitable but did not give figures. He also played down the impact of sanctions and the world financial crisis.

"Despite the recession in the global car industry we are facing a very resilient and strong market domestically," Hamidreza Taghavinejad, deputy president for strategy and planning, said at the same news conference. But an industry consultant said Iran Khodro, which like other Iranian vehicle manufacturers enjoys high tariff protection, needed to improve productivity and had lost market share in Iran to domestic rival Saipa. "(For) three to four years, Saipa has had much better performance than Iran Khodro," said the consultant, who declined to be named.

Manteghi said Iran Khodro aims to raise efficiency without changing its workforce and plans to increase production to 1 million cars and pick-up trucks by 2011-12 from 545,000 units in 2007-08. It has partnerships with global carmakers, such as a joint venture with France's Renault to make the no-frills Logan, sold in Iran as the Tondar-90, and also Peugeot's PEUL.PA 206 and 405 models.

"CLOSED MARKET"

France is among the Western countries that have pushed for tougher punitive measures on Iran over nuclear work they suspect is aimed at making bombs, a charge Tehran denies. Manteghi said imports for making Peugeot cars had already come down sharply but did not spell out whether international politics played a role in company thinking. "We are trying to cut our strategic dependence on foreign manufacturers, particularly French (manufacturers)," he said at the company headquarters on the outskirts of Tehran.

Manteghi said increased self-sufficiency required state support and said Iranian banks were reducing lending to the industry, whereas struggling carmakers elsewhere in the world are receiving hefty financial support from governments. Iran Khodro was in talks with Japanese companies about possible cooperation, Manteghi said, without naming them. Taghavinejad said its export earnings reached $542 million in 2007-08, much of it to other Islamic countries, and that it aims to be the Muslim world's leading producer. Iran was ranked the 16th biggest car producer in 2006.

The car industry consultant said it was possible for Iran Khodro to raise output to targeted levels because the company is helped by tariffs, some of them around 100 percent, and energy subsidies. "In a closed market you can do as you want," he said, adding it was selling cars to countries Tehran had close ties with, such as Syria and Venezuela. Analysts said U.S. and U.N. sanctions imposed on Iran over its nuclear programme are making it more difficult to secure trade finance and deterring foreign investors.

Manteghi acknowledged that such measures had increased costs but said they did not hinder other aspects of the business, such as access to technology. Iran Khodro's "vulnerability to sanctions is extremely low," he said.

Note Headquarter) for instance, presently, as the first phase, through setting up of Final Painting Lines, assembling and testing of vehicle and by making use of CKD parts and partly procurement from local sources, has started the production and delivery of Deer single cabin pick-ups.

TEHRAN - The world’s most powerful natural-gas-based car engine was unveiled on Saturday by the Iranian carmaker Iran Khodro under the intellectual property of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to IRINN, the engine is to be installed on Iran Khodro’s newest product Samand Soren ELX.

Iran Khodro CEO Manouchehr Manteqi said that all the design and development stages of the engine have been conducted in the company’s research center.

The engine is turbocharge type, with 150hp of power and has passed EuroIV standard requirements, he said.

“Its nominal power will not decline even at the height of 2,000 meters above sea level,” Manteqi noted.

Samand Soren ELX is an elegant and highly safe sedan which is outfitted with air bags for front-seat passengers, security belts, a telescopic steering wheel, and other safety equipment.

Iran could jump a few places in the world leugue table of car manufacturers! It already makes more cars than Italy and with car factories in the west halting production for months on end some countries are bound to fall a few places down past Iran as I dont think factories in Iran are scaling back significantly or predicted to. In 2009 Iran could probably make more cars than the UK and perhaps Russia putting it in maybe 12th place.

The police cars have gone very classy for sure. I remember those days when 405s and Peykans ruled the streets too. Now Peykans are just good for speedy pedestrians lol

nice, but i assume the insurance would be rocket high? especially for young drivers, i passed few months ago and it would cost me at least 800quid to get insured on a 1.0 toyota yaris:ohno:

At first I had my father has the policy holder (fully comp) with a few years no claims bonus which dropped the price right down. Then we switched to Admiral which gives named drivers no claims as well as the policy holder... So now I have a couple of years no claims bonus it's not so bad at about £500... but my excess is pretty steep (£250) if I have an accident.

As well as the price of insurance, the tax band is high (E) so £215/year road tax and the fuel consumption burns a hole in my pocket... But I'm not complaining!

I read somewere in IKCO's website, that they will unveil their second "national car" next week on Saturday 7th March 2009 (17th Esfand 1387). They have not chose/finalized the name of the car, but the the codename of the car is X12. The price will be around 10 000 000 toman (around 10 000 €).This car will use one type of the EF7 (first national engine).The environment-standard will be Euro4. It will be one of the safest cars of IKCO and the standards of the car are comparable with the ones of Soren ELX.

They are working on the first national bus. It will be unveiled soon (They wanted to unveil it in Bahman 1387- February 2009, but it seems, that it will be unveiled with a delay.

شرکت ایران خودرو بزرگترین خودروساز ایران با همکاری شرکای افغان برای تولید خودرو در افغانستان 20 میلیون دلار سرمایه گذاری می کند.

خبرگزاری دانشجویان ایران گزارش داده که گروهی از مدیران یک شرکت وابسته به ایران خودرو با مسئولان اتاق تجارت و صنایع افغانستان در باره تاسیس و راه اندازی یک واحد تولید خودرو در کابل مذاکره کرده اند.

مدیران شرکت بازرگانی همگام که یکی از شرکت های وابسته به ایران خودرو است، با مدیران اتاق صنایع افغانستان توافق کرده اند که یک کارخانه تولید خودروهای ایرانی در ولایت هرات در افغانستان ساخته شود.

ایران خودرو بزرگترین خودروساز ایران است و سالانه حدود 550 هزار دستگاه خودرو تولید می کند و تاکنون در کشورهای ونزوئلا، سنگال، روسیه سفید، سوریه و آذربایجان کارخانجاتی را برای تولید خودرو احداث کرده است.

در ایران سالانه بیشتر از یک میلیون خودرو تولید می شود که شرکت ایران خودرو بیشتر از نیمی از آن را تولید می کند. در کارخانه ایران خودرو انواع خودروهای پژو تولید تولید می شود و خودروهای ایرانی سمند نیز یکی از محصولات این شرکت است.

سید فخرالدین حیدری منش مدیرعامل شرکت همگام گفته است: "تاسیس و راه اندازی مراکز تولید خودرو در افغانستان با توجه به بازار آزاد این کشور یک تحول محسوب می شود و تاجران افغان می توانند با سرمایه گذاری در این بخش از ظرفیت و پتانسیل جاری نهایت بهره را ببرند.

مقامات ایرانی ابراز امیدواری کرده اند که سرمایه گذاران افغان نیز در این پروژه مشارکت کنند.

به گفته آقای حق جو، می خواهیم آهسته آهسته و طبق یک برنامه هدفمند به جای استفاده از خودروهای کهنه و فرسوده، خودورهای جدید و نو را جایگزین کنیم.

مقامات افغان آمادگی خود را برای همکاری در زمینه تولید خودرو در آن کشور اعلام کرده اند.

خان جان الکوزی معاون هیات مدیره اتاق تجارت افغانستان گفته است: "افغانستان قبرستان خوروهای کهنه است و تاسیس و راه اندازی کارخانه تولید خودرو در افغانستان علاقمندان زیادی خواهد داشت و تجربه نشان داده است که سرمایه گذاری در این بخش هیچ ریسکی ندارد."

Iran Khodro’s Tuned Tondar 90 Unveiled :)
^^Tuned Tondar 90, the second product of Option Cars Company (OPCO), was unveiled in the presence of Iran Khodro officials and a number of reporters at Olympic Hotel, Tehran.

The OPCO Managing Director Mohsen Pour-Saeidi talking in the unveiling ceremony said the engine of Tondar 90 functions well and the car’s parts, like other sports cars’, have simple designs.

Totally 96 parts have been designed or changed, said the OPCO chief, referring to front bumper, new grille, new fog lights, running boards, fender turn signal, fold-up turn signal side mirrors, new rear bumper, and trunk door.
According to him, the mass production of the car will start in late July 2009.
Iran Khodro Company and Iran Khodro Sales and After-Sales Service Company (ISACO) plan to export the tuned Tondar 90 to Turkey and Syria, revealed Pour-Saeidi.

The managing director said the car will be commercialized after getting approval from Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran (ISIRI), Department of the Environment (DOE), and the Islamic Republic of Iran Police (IRIP).

Samand Sayana was the first new product of the Option Cars Company and Peugeot Pars is the next, he concluded.

I cant find exact figures but Tehran Times reports that Saipa and IKCOs combined production broke the million cars annual production in 2008 in a 10% increase on 2007 they got that information from the IDRO. This doesnt include the other manufacturers in Iran but do account for 94% so you could conclude that production is up by roughly 10% overall (just under 1.1 million). Cant find exact figures but if you know someone that can read Farsi/Persian the IDRO website may have more figures as they dont translate everything for the English site. Also production by IKCO and joint venture plants abroad will be up more significantly in 2008.

Newly Designed Soren to Head to Turkey

Samand TU5 with automatic gearbox and Samand Soren with a new design have been made for the Turkish market.

Iran Khodro Asia-Pacific zone exports manager said the Samand sedan has received a good welcome in the Turkish market, adding that Samand TU5 with a 1600cc engine is now available for sale in the neighboring state.

“The demand for Samand TU5, due to low fuel consumption and high power, is high in Turkey and we are faced with low supply,” said the official.

He added that one thousand units of Samand have come ton the Turkish market, noting that the rich variety of top brands in Turkey necessitates Iran Khodro to add variety to its products in the market, as well.

Given the high price of fuel in Turkey, the production of Samand with diesel engine is under study and the project is expected to go on stream within the next two years, Mohammad Hassan Yazdi continued.

Referring to Turkish people’s interest in the products of the Islamic states, the export manager noted that joint borders as well as religious and cultural commonalities have prepared a proper ground for Iran Khodro in the neighboring country as the company has received a satisfactory welcome during a short time.

He, however, mentioned that on-time delivery, desirable quality, competitive price, and suitable after-sale service play vital roles in foreign trade.

The second car bearing the ‘national brand’ will be unveiled in the presence of high-ranking officials in the near future, announced the managing director of Iran Khodro Industrial Group.

Manouchehr Manteghi added the first national car, Samand, was produced as its body was firstly designed and the national engine and axel were designed and made later.
Now, continued the managing director, the group has the technical know-how for the design and manufacture of auto platform that has paved the way for producing its second national car.
The upcoming car is the outcome of IKCO’s nearly half a century experience of automaking and cooperation with top international carmakers, Manteghi said. He described Samand as a successful industrial ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in target markets, referring to the simultaneous production and supply of the second national brand in Iran Khodro’s domestic and overseas sites as an advantage of its new make.
Designing the second national brand, Iran Khodro has fully acquired the technical know-how for designing and producing vehicles in accordance with latest international standards, said the giant automaker chief. Coded as X12 Project, the new car has been designed in a way to meet Iranian and foreign customers’ needs including perfect safety, great beauty, and reasonable price.

به گزارش پايگاه اطلاع رساني وزارت صنايع و معادن، مهندس علي اكبر محرابيان در حكم انتصابي خود آورده است: با توجه به اينكه طراحي و ساخت هواپيماهاي پهن پيكر جزء سياست هاي راهبردي كشور و مورد نظر مسئولان ارشد نظام مي باشد، جنابعالي كه بحمدالله داراي تعهد، تخصص و تجارب ارزنده اي مي باشيد، با اختيارات تام به عنوان مسئول تحقق اين هدف مهم تعيين مي شويد.
مهندس محرابيان در اين حكم همچنين تاكيد كرده است، به جنابعالي ماموريت داده مي شود كه با تشكيل كنسرسيوم و با استفاده از تجارب كشورهاي دارنده اين فناوري نسبت به مطالعه، طراحي و ساخت هواپيماهاي پهن پيكر و بومي سازي توليد اين فناوري در كشور با بهره گيري كامل از توانمندي فني و مهندسي كليه متخصصين شايسته كشور اقدام كنيد.

They should have put lights like that on the Samand Soren. They will probably put lights like this on the next Samand. But by then it will look out of date. :bash:

But saying that, they are designing more and more up to date vehicles and are catching up.

^^the next Samand will be unveiled in Bahman (February 2010). but first they should use these lights on the 2nd national car (codename X12). hopefully the X12 will be unveiled as soon as possible, because I hate those Pride's and when the X12 comes to the market no one wants to buy the Kia Pride anymore.

Manouchehr Manteqi the chief executive and president of the Iran Khodro Company, the Middle East's largest automaker, has been dismissed.

Following Manteqi's unexpected dismissal by Iran's minister of industry and mines on Sunday, most of his deputies have also resigned.

Manteqi's dismissal came after the idea of merging Iran Khodro (IKCO) with Iran's second-largest car company, Saipa, gained ground, Tabnak reported.

Javad Najmeddin, managing director of MegaMotor Co, took up the post in an official ceremony on Sunday. Manteqi did not attend the inauguration of the new chief.

According to Tabnak, the new head of the IKCO has now been tasked with pursuing the merging of the two companies.

Manteqi headed Iran Khodro for more than seven years and was a staunch opponent of the merge.

When there isn't anymore competition, when there isn't any rival then everything gets worse... . They want to do this for being more competition-able in the world market with a bigger company... - but I think this monopole car producer will be fatal for Iran itself and I think this would not help to have better chances in the world market, because they produce their cars first for Iran and then for export, so when it is monopole then they produce cars with bad quality + high price + less service which rules Iran's car company in the world market out.
As you know SAIPA's managing director is a friend of Ahmadinejad and he spoiled SAIPA in his term ... and I am concerned that the new merged company will end up like SAIPA.

You raise some good points, however this is not always true! While it is true that competition is best for price management as well as innovation, a stronger single automaker could be good for Iran in the future. Currently, the government protects the local automobile industry with heavy import duties on foreign cars. If the IRI ever gets its act together and opens up Iran's economy, Iran's automakers will not be able to compete with better financed and efficient foreign car companies. A single, strong Iranian automaker will have a chance to fight!

There are pros and cons for each situation.
Pros:
-Makes a real large company to rival other global car makers.
-Minimises the cost of new vehicle development.
-Brings efficiencies of scale.
Cons:
-Reduced competition in the Iranian market.
-Job losses.
-Money already spent on new rival Miniator and Artel small sedans, one of which could be scrapped.
-Merger may not go well with a larger company emerging with a less competant or corrupt management.

I think IKCO and SAIPA each are large enough to compete with other car companys - and they are growing everyday... . SAIPA's management is corrupt. SAIPA doesn't have any good car in it's selling pallet and doesn't produce a good car complete itself - but IKCO is doing this since 2001... and is presenting new products every year while SAIPA lays to it's **** KIA Pride which has low safety standards... .

After Peykan I hate Pride, but the production of Peykan was stopped four years ago... . They should have put lights like that on the Samand Soren. They will probably put lights like this on the next Samand. But by then it will look out of date. :bash:

But saying that, they are designing more and more up to date vehicles and are catching up.

From that image it looks as though they have modelled it around the Volvo C30, while it is actually based on the 206. Not a bad end result really...

The second car bearing the ‘national brand’ will be unveiled in the presence of high-ranking officials in the near future, announced the managing director of Iran Khodro Industrial Group.

Manouchehr Manteghi added the first national car, Samand, was produced as its body was firstly designed and the national engine and axel were designed and made later.
Now, continued the managing director, the group has the technical know-how for the design and manufacture of auto platform that has paved the way for producing its second national car.
The upcoming car is the outcome of IKCO’s nearly half a century experience of automaking and cooperation with top international carmakers, Manteghi said. He described Samand as a successful industrial ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in target markets, referring to the simultaneous production and supply of the second national brand in Iran Khodro’s domestic and overseas sites as an advantage of its new make.
Designing the second national brand, Iran Khodro has fully acquired the technical know-how for designing and producing vehicles in accordance with latest international standards, said the giant automaker chief. Coded as X12 Project, the new car has been designed in a way to meet Iranian and foreign customers’ needs including perfect safety, great beauty, and reasonable price.
The C-Class X12 car has the capacity to receive a great variety of engines and equipment and therefore offers the clients the chance to choose their favorite models, said the managing director of Iran Khodro Industrial Group, assuring that the product will play an effective role in increasing the shares in domestic market and boosting the exports of the country’s auto industry.

I have good news for you. The new director said that the rumors of IKCO and SAIPA being merged is false. He said that they would only corporate more with each other to be self-sufficient of foreign countries, but they will compete with each other on quality of their products and the service.
He worked for IKCO for 20 years and switched to SAIPA because of he was chosen as the managing director of General Motors (of Iran) and now he is proud to "wear the IKCO's clothes" and to be the managing director.
He wants to solve the problem of Peugeot 405 which has burned a few times in Iran - the problem is 90% solved.

The new chief executive of Iran's largest automaker Iran Khodro Company (IKC) has denied reports of a possible merger with rival Saipa.

"There are no plans for a merger between the two companies," said Javad Najmeddin. "We only plan to cooperate with each other to improve the quality of our products."

Najmeddin's remarks came just a few days after he replaced Manouchehr Manteqi as IKC president.

Manteqi, who headed the Middle East's largest automaker for more than seven years, was a staunch opponent of the merger with Saipa -- Iran's second-biggest automaker.

Some media have reported that the appointment of Najmeddin, former managing director of Mega Motor Saipa, was aimed at speeding up the merger of the two companies.

After installing Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) equipment in 120 railroad taxis and GPS equipment on 30 ordinary taxis, smart control of Tehran taxis will be in force.
SAMA quoted managing director of Tehran Taxi Organization as saying that software systems are part of tools used to control taxi fleet and will be used to control taxis by the organization.
Hossein Teimuri Kermani noted that 21,000 ordinary taxis have been phased out in 8 years and shuttle as well as phone taxies will be positioned in 3,500 stations. Locations of 500 stations have been thus far determined.
The official stated that new stickers will be put on taxis, adding, “Stickers will be delivered to taxis in a week and taxi drivers should take them from Tehran Taxi Organization.”

The managing director of Iranian carmaker SAIPA has said that 'big automakers' in the US have invited his company to participate in joint projects.

Mehrdad Bazrpash also noted that the global economic downturn has prompted some of the European automakers to consider selling shares to SAIPA.

He said that some of the European automakers that are now interested in cooperating with SAIPA did not show any such inclination in the past, ISNA reported.

SAIPA, which was established in 1966, has implemented joint projects with Citroen and Renault of France, Nissan of Japan, and Kia Motors of South Korea.

The US auto making sector has been badly hit by the global economic crisis.

Peugeot 207 jointly made by Iran Khodro Company and the French giant carmaker Peugeot will come on the market in 14 months, announced IKCO deputy for product and quality affairs.

In his talks with the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA), Majid Sheikhani added Peugeot 207 coded P3 is a joint venture between Iran Khodro and the French company as the two automakers make a joint investment in the project and closely cooperate to design the car. In comparison with Peugeot 206, said the official, Peugeot 207 is given a facelift including changes in the saloon, lights, and interior design and trim, continuing that the price of the car has yet to be fixed.

Shifting to Peugeot 308, he explained that an agreement has been reached and the completely built-up (CBU) car will be imported at the first stage and it will be produced at home if it is economically justified. According to Sheikhani, the car will be shipped to Iran in mid-September 2009 and its price will revolve around 350 to 450 million rials (35,000 to 45,000 dollars).

He said Peugeot 407 has been highly welcomed by people, adding, “We have imported about one thousand sets (of Peugeot 407), but we did not offer all. In the meantime, we do not have any plan on domestic production of the car.”

Great to see Iran upgrading and face-lifting its car industry. 10 years ago if you visited Iran the streets looked liked the 70s or 80s based on the cars ;)

I wonder what the price of the 207 will be in Iran. In Europe the 206 was he huge success, mostly because it was affordable. The 207 was a failure in comparison, because it was 20%-30% more expensive, while other car manufactures where building cars with a lower price tag.

The second national car is unveiled today :banana: and I didn't found any english news for it. I post the farsi news and a few pictures of the car. I will post the english news as soon as I found one.

در موتور، گلگیرها، چراغ ها، سپر ها و صندوق عقب، از طراحی کاملا جدیدي برخوردار است.

توسعه پلتفرم جدید با مالکیت ایران خودرو

وي درزمينه توسعه پلتفرم خودرو رانا خاطر نشان ساخت : بخش عمده ای از زیر مجموعه های پلتفرم متعلق به ایران خودرو كه خودروی ”رانا“ برروی آن ارايه شده، موتور و گیربکس، سیستم تعلیق، کفی خودرو، صندلی ها، سیستم هاي خنک کاری، ترمز و الکتریکال و مجموعه اگزوز را در بر دارد.



گزینه های قوای محرکه بعنوان یکی از اجزا اصلی پلتفرم

محمدي با اشاره به اينكه در اين خودرو از قواي محركه متنوعي استفاده شده است خاطر نشان ساخت : موتور 1600 سي سي موجود براي بازار ایران و بازارهای صادراتي از جمله اين موارد است. اين موتور داراي

16 سوپاپ بوده و از 110 اسب توان در دور 5800 و

گشتاور 142 نيوتن متر در دور 4000 برخوردار است. اين موتور بنزین سوز بوده اما قابلیت ارائه به صورت دوگانه سوز را نيز دارا است. اين موتور در سیکل ترکیبی 6/6 ليتر و در جاده 5.4 ليتر در هر صد كيلومتر سوخت مصرف مي كند.

موتور ملی EF از ديگر گزينه هاي مورد نظر براي اين محصول است. اين موتور نيز داراي 16 سوپاپ و 125 اسب توان در دور 6000 در حالت بنزين و 103 اسب توان در دور 6000 در حالت گاز سوز است.

گشتاور 160 نيوتن متر در دور 4500 در حالت بنزین و 135 نيوتن متر در دور 4500 در حالت گاز سوز از ديگر ويژگي هاي اين موتور به شمار مي رود. موتور اي اف پایه گازسوز است اما قابلیت ارايه به صورت بنزین سوز را نيز دارد.
قابلیت نصب موتور دیزل نيز برروی این خودرو وجود دارد.



مالکیت گیربکس

مدير پروژه خودرو رانا تصريح كرد : ساخت کامل و مالكيت گيربكس توسط شرکت نیرو محرکه ایران خودرو را به عنوان گامی بلند در ایجاد پلتفرم فراهم و بهبود مستمر کیفیت گیربکس، با انجام پروژه های مهندسی را ميسر كرده است.


طراحی اکسل و سیستم تعلیق

وي تاكيد كرد : طراحی و ساخت کامل و مالکیت اکسل به عنوان یکی دیگراز اجزاي اصلی پلتفرم و مالكيت آن براي ايران خودرو، از ديگر نتايج طراحي و عرضه خودرو رانا است كه به منظور افزایش تیراژ و اقتصادی شدن تولید و با كسب

رانا باعث جهشي خوبي در صادرات ايران خودرو خواهد شد
خودرو رانا دومين خودرو با برند ملي به روزدي وارد بازارهاي داخل و خارج كشور خواهد شد.

مهندس علي اكبر محرابيان وزير صنايع ومعادن در مراسم رونمايي دومين خودرو با برند ملي ضمن بيان مطلب فوق اظهار داشت: خودرو رانا علاوه بر مشخصات فني فوق العاده اي كه دارد خودرويي بسيار زيبا و چشم نواز است كه به محض قرار گرفتن در سبد كالاي صادراتي، به همراه دو برند ملي ديگر، جهش بسيار خوبي را در بخش صادرات خودرو و ايران خودرو به وجود خواهد آورد.

وي افزود:يكي از افتخارات صنعت خودرو ايران اين بود كه عليرغم ركود بازارهاي جهاني و رقابت غير اخلاقي در بخش واردات، ميزان صادرات تقريبا برابر ميزان واردات خودرو به كشور بوده است.

محرابيان ادامه داد: بازار ايران با حجم وسيع مصرف كننده و تنوع ذائقه بهترين بازار براي اهداف صادارتي است ولي ميزان صادرات خودرو تقريبا برابر با ميزان واردات است كه اين يك افتخار بزرگ محسوب مي شود.

وزير صنايع ومعادن به تجاري سازي خودرو رانا اشاره كردو گفت: با تجاري سازي اين خودرو كه از نظرتكنولوژي و زيبايي در رديف خودروهاي مدرن و پيشرفته جهان است در آينده نزديك درعرصه صادرات جهش معنا داري خواهيم داشت.

استفاده از تجربه و دانش دكتر منطقي

وي درخصوص تغيير مديرعامل ايران خودرو گفت: صنعت خودرو از انديشه وتوان دكتر منطقي به نحو شايسته استفاده خواهد كرد .

وي تاكيد كرد: همچنان رييس هيات مديره ايران خودرو باقي خواهد ماند و در شوراي سياست گذاري خودرو نيز فعاليت خود را ادامه خواهد داد.

حمايت قاطع از مهندس نجم الدين

وزير صنايع و معادن همچنين در خصوص انتخاب مهندس نجم الدين به مديرعاملي گروه صنعتي ايران خودرو گفت: در طول مدت انتصاب مهندس نجم الدين كوچكترين انتقاد و اعتراضي به اين انتخاب نشده است و حتي افراد معترض به جابجايي دكتر منطقي عنوان كردند كه مهندس نجم الدين بهترين گزينه بود.

وزير صنايع و معادن ضمن اعلام حمايت قاطع از مديريت مهندس نجم الدين و تك تك اعضاي هيات مديره و مديران ايران خودرو اظهار اميدواري كرد كه در سال 88 ميزان رشد و پيشرفت در اين گروه صنعتي چندين برابر شود.

وي ادامه داد: در سال 1387 غول هاي بزرگ خودرو ساز جهاني يكي پس از ديگري زمين خوردند و ميزان توليد آنها كاهش چشمگيري داشت ولي خودروسازان كشور از اين فرصت استفاده كردند و رشد بي سابقه اي در زمينه توليد تجربه كردند.

وي در خصوص توجه به امر خدمات پس از فروش گفت: بايد در بخش خدمات پس از فروش جهش و رشد بي نظيري در سال جاري داشته باشيم.

اصلاح ساختار مالي و تامين نقدينگي لازم براي توليد، نخستين اولويت كاري گروه صنعتي ايران خورو است.

مهندس جواد نجم الدين مدير عامل گروه صنعتي ايران خودرو در مراسم رونمايي رانا – دومين خودروي ايران خودرو با برند ملي، و در جريان مراسم توديع دكتر منطقي مدير عامل سابق ايران خودرو ، ضمن بيان مطلب فوق، فروش و خدمات پس از فروش، ارتقاي بازدهي سرمايه گذاري ها، توسعه محصولات، كاهش مصرف سوخت و كوچك سازي بخش ستادي را از ديگر اولويت هاي راهبردي ايران خودرو عنوان كرد.

وي اظهار داشت: اصلاح ساختار مالي، كه بيشترين منافع را براي ذي نفعان در بر دارد، با هدف تامين نقدينگي، مديريت بر منابع مالي موجود و هدايت آن به سمت توليد و افزايش بهره وري از ظرفيت هاي توليدي صورت مي گيرد.

نجم الدين، فروش و خدمات پس از فروش را دومين اولويت كاري ايران خودرو اعلام كرد و گفت: براي ارتقاي اين بخش، از فناوري هاي نوين فروش و خدمات پس از فروش بيشترين بهره گيري به عمل خواهد آمد.

مدير عامل ايران خودرو خاطر نشان ساخت، كيفيت خدمات پس از فروش از چنان اهميتي برخوردار است كه بدون آن فروش دچار مشكل مي شود، لذا ايران خودرو برنامه جامعي را در جهت كنترل و نظارت مداوم شبكه خدمات پس از فروش در دست دارد.

نجم الدين افزايش بازدهي سرمايه گذاري هاي انجام شده در داخل و خارج از كشور را سومين اولويت ايران خودرو اعلام كرد كه از راه سرعت بخشيدن به طرح ها به منظور بازگشت سرمايه گذاري ها در زمان مناسب به دست مي آيد.

وي ضمن تاكيد بر توسعه محصولات و عرضه محصولات متنوع به بازار، سوخت و انرژي را كه مورد تاكيد نظام هم هست، به عنوان ديگر اولويت ايران خودرو برشمرد و گفت: دراين زمينه برنامه جامع تهيه خواهد شد كه به وسيله آن، ضمن كاهش مصرف سوخت، سرمايه گذاري در موتورسازي، در جهت ايجاد بيشترين تنوع در سبد سوخت و بالاترين صرفه جويي انجام خواهد شد.

مدير عامل ايران خودرو در ادامه سخنان خود در مراسم رونمايي از دومين خودروي ملي ايران خودرو – رانا – ارتقاي زنجيره تامين قطعات را اولويت ديگر ايران خودرو اعلام كرد و اظهار داشت: ايران خودرو با هزار قطعه ساز و مجموعه ساز، بزرگ ترين شبكه تامين را در اختيار دارد و 70 درصد قطعات و مجموعه هاي مورد نياز از اين شبكه تامين مي شود؛ لذا ارتقاي اين شبكه از اهميت ويژه برخوردار است.

وي تصريح كرد: دراين راستا به غير از سازندگان قطعات استراتژيك و داراي فناوري بالا، ساير بخش هاي زنجيره تامين به بخش خصوصي واگذار خواهد شد.

نجم الدين كوچك كردن بخش هاي ستادي و ايجاد تعادل بين ستاد و صف را به منظور ارتقاي چابكي سيستم، از ديگر اولويت هاي مهم براي ايران خودرو عنوان كرد.

مدير عامل ايران خودرو در ادامه يك بار ديگر موضوع ادغام خودروسازان را تكذيب كرد و بر همكاري صميمانه با ساير خودروسازان براي استفاده از تمامي مراكز تخصصي با هدف عدم نياز به شركت هاي بيگانه، تاكيد كرد و گفت: تنها در كيفيت و خدمات پس از فروش رقابت تنگاتنگ با ساير خودروسازان خواهيم داشت.

وي نيروي انساني را دارايي ارزشمند ايران خودرو عنوان كرد و با اشاره به اين كه خود وي كار در ايران خودرو را از پايين ترين رده آغاز كرده و با سختي كار در تمامي رده ها آشناست، كار و انضباط و عدالت محوري را مهم ترين اولويت در خصوص نيروي كار به شمار آورد و بر افزايش رفاه تمامي كاركنان تا پايين ترين رده سازماني، بر اساس عدالت محوري تاكيد كرد.
تهديدها و فرصت هاي پيش رو

مدير عامل گروه صنعتي ايران خودرو در بخش ديگري از سخنان خود در مورد فرصت ها و تهديدهاي پيش روي ايران خودرو گفت: ايران خودرو در تمامي مراحل با تهديدها و فرصت هايي رو به رو بوده، اما امروزه ركود اقتصاد جهاني، سياست هاي انقباضي بانك ها، اشباع بازار داخل، توقع به جاي مشتريان، مشكلات تامين نقدينگي، قيمت، سوخت و استانداردهاي سخت گيرانه زيست محيطي، نشان مي دهد كه حجم تهديدها در داخل و خارج افزايش يافته است.

وي كاهش قيمت مواد اوليه و برخورداري از منابع عظيم انساني ، مديران كارآمد و آبديده با توان بهره برداري از ظرفيت هاي توليد را فرصت هايي دانست كه مي تواند ايران خودرو را در رويارويي با تهديدها كمك كند.

نجم الدين سخن مقام معظم رهبري در شروع سال جديد مبني بر اصلاح الگوي مصرف را فرصتي گران قدر براي ايران خودرو دانست تا در جهت صرفه جويي در هزينه ها و كسب بالاترين سطح بهره وري حركت كند.

Runna to Enter Domestic and Foreign Markets
IKCO second national brand, Runna (X12 project) unveiled on Saturday, April 18, 2009 In the unveiling ceremony, simultaneously held with the valediction and introduction of IKCO ex and new CEOs; Mehrabian Iranian Minister of Industries and Mines, state high ranking officials and auto industry top managers as well as Iranian and foreign reporters were participating.

Runna designed on a platform, the intellectual property of which belongs to IKCO is going to be presented in domestic market and in four continents of the world.
It is noteworthy that Runna is the first Iranian car that meets the pedestrian impact standards based on European directive 2003/102/EC and it will be able to acquire Euro IV and V pollution standards.
IKCO second national brand will be offered with a vast variety in engine types (1.6 liter gas and 1.7 liter CNG-base engines) and accessories, giving customers way to pick up what they most desire. The new car can be also equipped with diesel engines and IKCO is planning to prepare the diesel one for global markets with demand for such cars.
The product will hit domestic and global markets by March 2010. Runna production volume will be 150000 units per annum, 25 percent of which will be dispatched abroad.

Why does it take so long to start production!? And it takes ages to take the old cars out of production!

I don't want to be a scum, but where is the honor to take a old Peugeot Sedan-206 body (that IKCo get the license to produce) and declare it's a new car just by replacing the bumpers and the lights.

^Well you are not wrong, I said something similar a couple of pages back. My opinion on this is that the 206 SD had very small sales figures to what was expected when Peugeot gave IKCO the go ahead to manufacture it. Bare in mind the 206 SD design i.e. the original 206 modified into a Sedan was designed by IKCO. The small sales figures must have justified the redesign, re-badge, new Iranian made/designed engine, and the hype surrounding a new 'national car' to make some sales.

As for replacing bumpers and lights to make a 'new car'... Rover did it for over 15 years, look at where they ended up :shifty:... The lights and overall design does look like it is imitating the Volvo C30.

because it uses the national motor and not a peugeot motor
Samand use to use the Peugeot 405 motor but they switched to the national motor

Today the only available engine is the Peugeot TU5 engine (1.6 cc) that is used in 206. The national engine (EF7 - 1.7 cc) seems too big, and IKCo has some difficulties to put it in (reliable source from IKCo itself).
The second national engine (EF4 - 1.4 cc) is in progress, but it's going to be ready in 2 or 3 years.

So only the TU5 engine is going to be available when IKCo is going to launch the car on march 2010.

I wonder what the price of the 207 will be in Iran. In Europe the 206 was he huge success, mostly because it was affordable. The 207 was a failure in comparison, because it was 20%-30% more expensive, while other car manufactures where building cars with a lower price tag.

Yes, but IKCO is much better than SAIPA. I hate SAIPA, because it "just" produces the Kia Pride which is one of the unsafest and worst cars worldwide! Now it has unveiled the "second national car", which I think is almost like the Kia Pride.... . However I hope the produce good "national" cars in the future while I think that IKCO is much closer to my optimum than SAIPA.

^^yes, I thought EF7 would be better than TU5, but now I know that it is worse than TU5. What was the name of the national engine which has the highest power of gas Engines worldwide? However this engine would be good and the EF7 and EF4 aren't so different than the TU5. But fortunately they are going to build more powerful engines in the (near) future. The EF4 and EF7 are very good steps for IKCO to produce very powerful engines. But I have heard that the EF4 and EF7 exhaust very less - and that is very good especially for the pollution in Iran (mostly in the big cities).

This car would be soo ideal for the Turkish market! Read today on PressTV that they want to release it sooner there:The Iran Khodro Company will begin exporting its newly introduced car, Runna, to Turkey by July, IKCO's Turkish distributor says.

The third all-Iranian car Runna was introduced by the Middle East's largest automaker last week.

The Anatolia news agency quoted MYS Otomotiv manager Yigit Seskir as saying that the new Iranian car would be offered with different options and engines in Turkey.

I agree. But you see, Iranians are not big fans of small hatchback cars, they're a bit *American*. They only drive a small car if there's nothing else available.

The SAIPA 111 is somehow ugly... . The other cars are pretty good, but they are foreign cars... . The cars which SAIPA produces itself aren't really good cars. I prefer Iran Khodro, because it produces better cars -especially the national cars. SAIPA produces the Kia Pride and now changes the outlook of the car a bit and present it as SAIPA 111. SAIPA 141, Miniator (which is a bit more changed..) etc. . They should build a good car themselves which is not exactly like the Kia Pride. When the Runna comes to market with the price they said, then nobody buys the Pride, because the price would be the same, but the quality and everything else from the Runna would be better.

You really think so? I always considered hatchbacks European small run-arounds... while American cars are big sedans and 4x4, the popularity of hatchbacks in the US has been brought about by recent high fuel prices and concern for the environment.

If you look at any street in Tehran you'll see that the 206 is one of the only popular hatchbacks currently produced, people prefer sedans more imo

Iran, Daewoo strike bus deal

South Korean bus manufacturer Daewoo Bus Corp. and an Iranian company have teamed up to build buses in Iran, the official Iranian news agency and a Daewoo Bus official said Thursday. The agreement comes as U.S. lawmakers weigh even deeper economic sanctions on Iran in a bid to pressure the country to halt uranium enrichment and abandon its controversial nuclear program.

Saeed Khademi, the director of Iranian automaker Ardebil Sabalan Khodrow-Maywan, said Wednesday the two firms would build a $30 million factory by next March in Ardebil, about 370 miles (600 kilometers) northwest of the capital, Tehran. The plant, which is slated to be completed by March 2010, would have a production capacity of 2,000 buses per year and would produce some 800 city and intercity buses in the 18 months after its inauguration, Iran's official news agency IRNA quoted Khademi as saying Thursday.

Based on the agreement, the engines and gearboxes would be manufactured in South Korea. But production would increasingly shift to Iran, where about 60 percent of the parts would be made, IRNA said. J.G. Yang, a Daewoo Bus official in charge of the firm's Middle East exports, said the company plans initially to supply completed buses built in South Korea but will later send components that will be assembled into complete buses in Iran.

The venture comes as U.S. lawmakers are looking at stiffening existing sanctions on Iran to pressure the country to halt uranium enrichment, which can produce fuel for a nuclear reactor or fissile material for a bomb. The U.S. suspects Iran is using its nuclear program as a covert way to develop weapons - a claim denied by Tehran. The proposal before U.S. lawmakers would penalize foreign oil firms and shippers that do business with Iran. However, past sanctions have failed to change Iran's behavior, and the hard-line government has been reaching out to international companies with promises of lucrative oil contracts and other business deals.

Iran shrugged off the U.S. move as "psychological warfare."

"Americans know better than anyone that sanctions have no impact on Iran," state television quoted Seifollah Jashnsaz, head of state-owned National Iranian Oil Company, as saying Thursday.

Although the second largest oil producer among OPEC countries, Iran still has to import oil to meet domestic needs because it lacks enough refining capacity. Yang said he saw no problem for Daewoo Bus in doing business in Iran since most of the components for the buses are supplied by South Korean companies. He said more than 100 Daewoo buses were assembled in Iran under a previous agreement with a company there.

Daewoo Bus has 10 factories in South Korea, China, Taiwan, Costa Rica, Kazakhstan, Vietnam and Pakistan, Yang said. Some are operated independently by Daewoo and others with joint venture partners. The company was once part of the Daewoo Group conglomerate, which collapsed under massive debt following the 1997-98 Asian financial crisis

Iran annually needs some 4,000 buses for its domestic transportation. Since the 1970s, Iran has been producing a number of different buses, such as German Mercedes and Mann as well as Swedish Scania and Volvo that it has exported throughout the Middle East.

پس به*نظر مي*رسد* شركت ايران خود*رو با كمك مشاوران ايتاليايي تنها جلو و عقب خود*رو را د*ر بخش بد*نه د*وباره طراحي كرد*ه است اما مينياتور طراحي تا حد*ود* زياد*ي عجيب د*ر بين خود*روهاي ايراني د*ارد* كه برخي مانند* علي رضا محمد* زاد*ه، كارشناس طراحي به*عنوان جشنواره خطوط از آن ياد* كرد*ه و معتقد* است كه سايپا د*ر طراحي خطوط خود*رو اغراق كرد*ه و برخي خطوط بد*نه با هم هماهنگي ند*ارند*. برخي د*يگر نيزمينياتور را شبيه خود*روهاي لانچياي ايتاليايي مي*بينند*. جالب است اين خود*رو نيز بنا بر اعلام رئيس مركز تحقيقات سايپا با كمك مشاوران ايتاليايي طراحي شد*ه است. با اين شرايط د*ر يك كلام مي*توان گفت رانا ساد*ه و زيبا و مينياتور طراحي پيچيد*ه*اي د*ارد*. اما باز هم بايد* د*يد* سليقه ايراني*ها كد*ام يك را بيشتر مي*پسند*د*.

فرمان*پذيري و تعاد*ل

گرچه تا زماني كه هر*د*و خود*رو د*ر شرايط يكسان تست جاد*ه شوند* نمي*توان قضاوت د*قيقي د*ر مورد* فرمان*پذيري كرد* اما رانا از سيستم*هاي توسعه يافته فنر*بند*ي پژو206 بهره مي*برد*؛ به*گونه*اي كه سيستم تعليق عقب د*وباره طراحي شد*ه و به*اصطلاح طراحي بومي تعليق د*ر ايران است. البته اين سيستم با كمك مركز طراحي پورشه توسعه يافته است. طراحي بد*نه خود*رو نيز به*گونه*اي است كه به*نظر مي*رسد* به*طور مناسب به زمين بچسبد* چرا كه گرانيگاه*هاي خود*رو نزد*يك به زمين است. د*ر مورد* مينياتور كه از ترمز توسعه يافته پرايد*، سيستم فنر بند*ي ريو و فرمان توسعه يافته پرايد* بهره گرفته، فعلاً تا تست جاد*ه صورت نگيرد* هيچ قضاوتي نمي*توان كرد* اما به*نظر گرانيگاه و ارتفاع خود*رو زياد* بالاست كه سبب پايين آمد*ن تعاد*ل خود*رو خواهد* شد*.

قواي محركه

قرار بود* تا قبل از رونمايي مينياتور موتور رانا 1400 سي*سي از خانواد*ه موتور ملي باشد* كه با مركز تحقيقات موتور آلمان FEV به*صورت مشترك طراحي شد*ه بود*. اين موتور 75 اسب*بخار قد*رت د*اشت اما پس از آنكه مشخص شد* مينياتور مجهز به موتور 80 اسب*بخاري با حجم 1500 سي*سي شد*ه*است، موتور رانا هم تغيير كرد* و حال قرار شد*ه تا موتور 1700 سي*سي ملي با قد*رت 110 اسب*بخار روي اين خود*رو قرار گيرد*. البته اين خود*رو با موتور پژو 206 تيپ 5 با قد*رت 105 اسب بخار هم ارائه مي*شود* و قرار است پس از مد*تي موتور 4/1 ليتري ملي نيز روي آن قرار گيرد*.

نكته قابل توجه د*رباره قواي محركه رانا و مينياتور حضور شركت آلماني FEVاست. موتور هر*د*وخود*رو با كمك مركز تحقيقات موتور آلمان FEV توسعه يافته، البته موتور مينياتور بر پايه موتور پرايد* است كه محفظه احتراق آن كوچك شد*ه و حجم موتورش افزايش يافته تا راند*مان موتور افزايش يابد*. عد*د* تراكم موتور 7/9 است كه د*ر موتور كنوني پرايد* حد*ود* 5/8است.(عد*د* تراكم هرچه بيشتر باشد* بازد*ه بيشتر مي*شود*). با اين توضيحات د*ر مورد* موتور اين 2 خود*رو مي*توان گفت كه موتور رانا سر*تر از مينياتور است اما بايد* د*يد* عملكرد* گيربكس كد*ام خود*رو بهتر مي*تواند* از قد*رت موتور بهره گيرد*. گيربكس مينياتور تغيير ضريب د*اد*ه شد*ه پرايد* است، حال آنكه رانا از گيربكس تغيير ضريب د*ند*ه د*اد*ه سمند* بهره مي*برد*. د*رباره گيربكس متعلق به مينياتور تا ورود* به بازار نمي*توان قضاوت كرد* اما د*ر مورد* گيربكس رانا مي*توان گفت د*ر د*ند*ه 3 ناهماهنگي بين موتور و گيربكس وجود* د*ارد*. با اين همه به*نظر مي*رسد* قواي محركه رانا به*د*ليل قد*رت بيشتر موتور، طراحي*شد*ن براساس گاز و كاركرد* مناسب روي بنزين از موتور مينياتور برتر باشد*.

كد*ام برند*ه مي*شوند*؟

گرچه بازار خود*روي 10 ميليون توماني هم*اكنون خواستاران فراواني د*ر بين مشتريان د*ارد*
(حد*ود* 500 هزار د*ستگاه د*ر سال ) اما ابتد*ا بايد* د*يد* آيا 2 خود*روي مذكور كه قرار است طبق وعد*ه مسئولان با قيمت 10 ميليون تومان عرضه شوند* چه سهمي از بازار را به*خود* اختصاص خواهند* د*اد*. با *وجود* اين باز هم بايد* منتظر واكنش بازار بود*. گرچه براساس برخي بررسي*هاي فني به*نظر مي*رسد* رانا برتر از مينياتور باشد*، اما باز هم بايد* د*يد* مرد*م فقط به موارد* فني د*قت مي*كنند* يا ظاهر خود*رو* براي آنها مهم*تر است.

-Runna has better technical and mechanical properties

IKCO currently produces 52 different vehicle models under 10 makes.

Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) completes the second phase of its factory in Syria to make the country a regional base for the export of its sedan Samand.

IKCO, the Middle East's largest automaker, launched the first phase of the Samand assembly line in Damascus in 2007.

"The capacity of the plant is about 10,000 cars per year and the figure will increase to 30,000 cars annually," said IKCO Chief Javad Najmeddin.

Najmeddin added that the project had cost IKCO 60 million dollars.

He said that the plant has the capability to export its production to all regional markets.

IKCO manufactures various vehicles in seven countries across the globe.

The company plans to increase its production to one million vehicles a year. It is anticipated that 800,000 cars will be produced at domestic plants and the remaining will be produced at sites outside Iran.

IKCO's new models -- including the private passenger sedan Samand, the wheelchair-accessible Samand, the R90, a second generation LNG-powered 7-seat van, and the dual-fuel Peugeot sedan 407 -- were unveiled at a recent international auto exhibition in northern Iran and will soon be made available to consumers.

They have already. The Samand is available in Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Ukraine and Russia and has been purchased for government departments in Bosnia and in Serbia. Negotiations have started for establishment in the Polish market. Its not so far away that Iranian products access the greater EU market.

The managing director of Iranian carmaker SAIPA has said that 'big automakers' in the US have invited his company to participate in joint projects.

Mehrdad Bazrpash also noted that the global economic downturn has prompted some of the European automakers to consider selling shares to SAIPA.

He said that some of the European automakers that are now interested in cooperating with SAIPA did not show any such inclination in the past, ISNA reported.

SAIPA, which was established in 1966, has implemented joint projects with Citroen and Renault of France, Nissan of Japan, and Kia Motors of South Korea.

The US auto making sector has been badly hit by the global economic crisis.

I don't know from who this retailer got his information, but there is one mistake : IKCo unveiled some protypes of Runna last month, they are far from starting mass production, so I don't see how they want to sell it in july.

Samand on Display in Belarus Int'l Auto Show

Belarus International Motor Show 2009 opened in Belarus capital, Minsk. Some 150 new cars alongside the most selling cars of the year in Europe were on display in the exhibition from May 4-10.
Iran’s giant automaker, Iran Khodro also participated in this international event by displaying Samand LX.
Head of the Iranian Samand factory in Belarus, Dimitri Igorov said, "Samand LX shown in the fair is one of Belarus plant’s products in the last year delivered to the customers at a reasonable price." He added that new models of Samand would hit Belarusian markets in near future.
It is noteworthy that Samand Lx produced in this country is equipped with a 1800cc engine and is very welcome by customers and lots of people visited Samand in this auto show.

German Volkswagen has started talks with its Iranian partner for production of VW-Polo.Khodro Emrooz magazine reported in its latest issue that German car manufacturer have had meetings with Kerman-Khodro for vast production of Polo. The magazine says that VW has apparently decided to use Iranian car part manufacturer to reduce the final prices. The same policy Renault is using for its car assembling in Iran. VW and Kerman-Khodro are producing VW-Gol for the Iranian market at a very limited number in Bam.

is there a particular reason nissan chose a random iranian tribe to name their latest model after?! it has been niggling at me for months, and now theyre bringing out the nissan shiraz?! why?

^ Nissan always has been a bit weird with names for cars. The Nissan Rasheen (an Irish first name or Arabic surname), Nissan Truck (it wasnt a truck), Nissan Cedric (really stupid sounding English man's name), Nissan Cefiro (made up name sounding latinish), Nissan Fuga!? (again totally made up, but I dont think it even sounds good!).
I think they just invent a word that they like the sound of and look to see if there is a word that actually exists that sounds like that and is loosely appropriate then adopt that spelling. If not what the hell! Whats wrong with using a completely made up word!

“IKD national engine is ready for mass production and hitting the markets,” Reza Asem Nakhjavani, IKD CEO said and underlined, “the mass production of this product depends on purchase order registration and it won’t go for mass production without it.”

Talking about the modifications done on this bus Nakhjavani said, “During Tabriz International Motor Show in the last October, its prototype was introduced to the visitors and based on the potential customers’ point of view, some modification has taken place.” “The bus is CNG based and the company has planned for introducing it to the global markets,” he further added.
It is noteworthy that National Car or National Bus means that the Iranian carmakers have achieved the required knowledge and ability to design and produce all the parts and components for the product and there is no dependence on any given country in this regard.

Yes, it's somehow a shame that some countries like Turkey and Belarus, which started producing buses a way later than Iran, are in some fields further ahead. I am sure that the Iranian engineers are able to design and produce much better products! But there is no hope until this government is there... that is all the fault of the government...:bash: .

The city transport authorities dont seem to want to order them. They must be more expensive but there should be legislation there to make public transport and public places more accessible to the disabled like there is in Europe. You would think that the welfare of the elderly and the disabled vetererans from the Iraq war would be important to this government. But it seems not.:no:

The only city which has the low-floor buses is the BRT line of Tehran and that is because of the mayor of Tehran ( Ghalibaf), but the government tries to stop or delay the project's of him, so it also effected the come of the BRT buses, they wanted to stop "importing non-iranian made buses", but they didn't slightly think about the disabled people... . No other city has low-floor buses, because of this government... .

Ive been on one of these Megatrans once going to Tajrish Square. But they make them in Iran, there should be no excuse.

^^I was also a few times on this type above, they're good, but not the right bus type that Ghalibaf wanted. The buses which Ghalibaf wanted were BRT capable buses... and these "normal" buses which IKCO produces aren't capable with the BRT system. Because the BRT buses have the GPS, show the next station & say the next station etc. . The BRT buses were ordered from Germany. Besides the government officials talk a lot of nonsense, so ... .

saipa website shows that citroën C4, C5 (the old one, not the most recent) and renault megane are built in Iran. However, in the tehran pics there is no C4 or megane (contrary to the old 405 or pride). Does these models really exist there or nobody buy them ?

^^As far as I know the C4 and C5 are going to be build in SAIPA (maybe they have already started...) and the 207, 308 and 407 are going to be imported in the first phase and depending on the sales rate they will decide which car they are going to produce partly in Iran. So these aren't rumors.

The news were from before the elections, so maybe the tense relations between France and Iran will have an impact on it.
However i don't know if there is the number somewhere but it seems that renault megane isn't a success in Iran like 405, 206 or even logan (tondar).

Maybe, but they have already signed a contract, so I don't think that they can easily scrap the contract... . Besides one could say that the relationship between France and Iran has improved in the last 2 week's and especially in the current economic situation it would be very bad for Peugeot to cut ties with IKCO, because they have a great market share in Iran and they earn a lot of money there... .
Yes, I also think that Renault Megane isn't really a success in Iran in comparison to 206, 405 or L90, but the Megane came later to the Iranian market than the other car's and Megane is more expensive than L90 etc. and cheaper products are usually more successful than expensive car's... .

Today, the only contract signed between IKco and Peugeot is about the production of 206+ (called 207 in Iran) in IKco's Tehran factory. The importation of 407 began last year (we can see some of them in Tehran streets), but it seems completely stop today.

I don't think that megane is so expensive comparing to all the 4x4 we see in tehran street (toyota hyundai etc...) or xantia when this model was new. Northern tehrani can easily afford to buy one. Obviously it is not the case.

^^Rich people buy really good car's such as Toyota Camery etc. , but the Megane is built for the middle class and I think that this car is maybe too expensive for them.
In fact the websites of IKCO and SAIPA aren't always up to date (no wonder they are government companies...), but there were news that they are imported/going to be imported + some parts locally produced.

GHASHGHAI is an Iranian Name

Nissan Company announced that the name of «Ghashghai», one of its new products, has been inspired from the name of an Iranian tribe.

According to Fars news Agency, Nissan Company described in a report the reasons for selecting the name of Ghashghai for the vehicle. Based on this report Ghashghai is the name of a nomad tribe near Shiraz city in Iran. The reason for naming the latest high quality Nissan SUV is its high performance capability in urban areas as well as deserts and mountain impassable routs. The report says Ghashghai is one Nissan’s 2007 selling products of which 400 thousand units have been produced by 2009. Following a success in Europe as a selling SUV product, it will hit Iranian market in near future.

IKCO and SAIPA Not to Be Merged

SAIPA group new CEO announced that SAIPA and IKCO would not be merged.

In a gathering of SAIPA senior mangers and in an interview with reporters, Nematollah Poostindooz said, “Since preserving brand is a global advantage for a company and there have been many efforts for brand building by these two companies, it does not seem logical to merge IKCO and SAIPA. “We will definitely use common capabilities of SAIPA and IKCO to improve the country’s auto industry; and in order to win the global car markets, there should be a coordination and unity between these two companies,” he added.
