Hello to everybody,

With all this construction going on, i was wondering if there are any projects like a waterpark or a good theme park planned for doha. They will be needing it if they want to fill up all the nice hotels they are building now with tourists.

Thanks guys and keep the positive things coming.

I believe papi there is a major theme park in the pipelines. They say it will be grand and the person who will over see the project is none other than akbar al baker, who is currenty the ceo of qatarairways, chairman of the airport and head qatars tourism board.

Can you give us any source for this or are they just rumors?

I think this is old news. There were talks of opening a water park when the Ritz Hotel opened. However, that did not happen. But, I think in Losail they will open an amusement park--maybe Disneyland or something..

The ambitious project, “Nine-Mile” Development , supported by Qatar Government is envisioned not only as a top tourist destination in the Middle East but also in the whole world. Located on the coast of Qatar in Arabian Gulf, this large residential and entertainment complex includes the country’s largest theme park, a sport park with Formula-1 racing track, aqua park, a cruise-ship terminal, luxury residential communities, large shopping district with convention center, and mixed-use entertainment facilities.

thnx 4 the posting qatari 4 ever.
great design, although i'm little reserved to the traditional design of the project.
it should be futuristic and innoveative. we're talking about a project worth billions of $$, not some shisha cafe in souq waqif.

Dude matar al qadeem has a true feeling of a proper neigbourhood, it has culture. Dafna is nothing more than a number of high ceiling boxy villas where no one knows who lives up the street.

MX, the a majlis has a significant importance in Qatari and gulf heritage--as it is where men of all ages and usually common families gather around in the same area and chat about political, social, and economical issues. Usually its like an internet chat room but in real life. I will try to look for pics!

Hi all,

i'm not sure if this project is still ongoing.. i have not personally see/heared about it.. but definitly it is not within Lusial..

QatariDiar has signed an MOU with AbuDhabi investment HOuse to develope the LUsail Entertainment District within Lusail.. this is in the desiging face and nothing have been released yet in term of concepts or plans..

The agreement which marks strengthening ADIH presence further in Qatar's growing economy was signed between Engineer Nasser Hassan Al Ansari, Chief Executive Officer of Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company and Mr. Rashad Janahi, Chief Executive Officer of ADIH.

Announcing the partnership, Engineer Nasser Hassan Al Ansari said: 'The creation of Lusail Entertainment District envisages developing an ideal world-class tourist destination with latest technology in place. The project will add further value to the entire Lusail development and also improve the quality of living for residents within Lusail.'

The Lusail Entertainment District is a high-end entertainment and recreational district that will encompass a variety of leisure facilities and resorts for individuals and families of all ages. It will have the latest amusement park rides, five star hotels, coffee shops, restaurants, gardens and parks as well as world-class theaters.

Commenting on the agreement with Qatari Diar Real Investment Company, Mr. Rashad Janahi said:

"The partnership marks a significant milestone for ADIH in its pursuit to generate value-added investment opportunities to its clients. This is our second investment partnership in the rapidly growing economy of Qatar with our involvement in the private placement of the multi-billion dollar Energy City Qatar coming up within Lusail, which we closed successfully raising US$100 million from the UAE market.'

He said Lusail Entertainment District will present investors another sophisticated investment opportunity. 'As a financial institution which has strong focus on maximizing returns, one of our salient aims is to offer regional and global investors innovative investment opportunities linked to the unprecedented regional growth opportunity. We are confident that Lusail Entertainment District is another significant addition to our investment portfolio.'

Elaborating on the project, Engineer Al Ansari said: 'It is anticipated that this project will commence in 2007 and will be completed by the end of 2009. This project is part of our desire to take part in the tourism and entertainment infrastructural development in a major way.'

'Our partnership with ADIH will help us develop the Lusail Entertainment District with sound backing from regional investors,' he added.

Thank you for advertising and displaying the contracted artwork and design of Contour Entertainment, Inc., the original design company contracted by Bechtel International and the original concept designers for this project, as well as the masterplanners and concept designers for the Lusail Entertainment District.
Originally a one square kilometer theme park project requested by HH. Hamad Bin Jassem Al Thani on behalf of HH. The Emir, Sheik Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani. This 3D model of the masterplan developed by Contour Entertainment was contracted to Renato Francischelli DBA as BlueSky Entertainment. He worked directly for Contour Entertainment. This version of what was to eventually become the Lusail development and Entertainment City became much larger at the recommendation of Contour. Subsequent masterplan and development by Contour Entertainment led to a much larger site development of mixed-use and commercial development as well as a completely developed oceanfront concept now known as Lusail. The Qatari Diar was established at this time to oversee this massive project.

This was the first attempt at a conceptual masterplan by Renato Francischelli working for Contour Entertainment, Inc. Contour did not submit these in the final presentation to HH. for fear they were too futuristic. And in the case of the masterplan, it would have caused a severe concrete shortage in the world. It was never called the "Nine-Mile Development. It was only seven kilometers.
