DOHA: Monday's freak storm has damaged some private schools in the city. In one instance, the director of the Al Bayan School sealed the school building until a written guarantee was given that the school was safe. Meanwhile, 631 affected students could not attend school due to the situation.
The director stated that she had asked the concerned authorities on several occasions to carry out the required maintenance. She said that it was fortunate that the storm took place at night, so there were no fatalities or injuries. Damages to the school complex were to the sports hall, an inner hall and some classrooms.
On the other hand, the Supreme Council for Education released a statement announcing that the rainfall caused damage to independent schools – Al Bayan Elementary School and Al Duhail Junior School. Accordingly, a committee formed from the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), the education department and general services section has been assigned responsibility for rehabilitating the two schools.
It has also been decided that no classes will be held at Al Bayan school for a week.
