Qeshm Island, according to Wikipedia:

SOURCE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qeshm

Qeshm ( in Persian: قشم ) is an island situated in the Strait of Hormuz off the south coast of Iran (Persia) and east of the Persian Gulf (26°50′N 56°0′E). It has an area of over 500 mi˛ (1295 km˛). Clarence Strait separates mainland Iran from Qeshm Island. The surface is mostly rocky and barren. It is Iran's largest and the Persian Gulf's largest island, Qeshm is almost 100 kilometers long. Explorer William Baffin was mortally wounded on Qeshm in 1622 during a battle against Portuguese forces.

Background

Historically, Qeshm island dates back to pre-Islam period, while such names as Qeshm, Keshm, Kish and Tunb mark the lengthy stay of Ilamids in the area several centuries before Christ's birth. In the course of the national history, the island has been withstanding attacks launched against it, on account of its geopolitical situation, by Ilamids, Alexander, Omavids, Abbasids as well as the Portuguese and British, whose detrimental consequences are still evident. According to historical records, Qeshm island was known as a trade and navigation center of great reputation. Its economy flourished mostly during Dialameh and Alebouyeh eras, as trade vessels sailed between the Chinese and Indian seas and the African continent

Pics to come in a sec ;)

jup there isnt much there jet but when the bridge and the tunnel to Iran get finished there will be more people from south Iran going to Qeshm bij car (from Lar, Shiraz, Lamerd, Bandar Abbas, Bandere Lengeh) And then the tourism Industry can come on the move. But i dont think that Qeshm will become a resort for the upper and middle class like kish this because people can go there by car.

I'm fascinated by these pictures, especially the ones of the buildings as all i've really seen of qeshm are landscape photos.

No, there are very few Arabs in Qeshm and surroundings, many are just Iranians who have adopted the Arab culture (due to Hormuzgan being part of Oman in the 1800s). I have yet to see a Portuguese person there.

alot are ethnic arabs, there are few persians , theres no reason for someone from the mainland to go there

anyway, and by portuguese i dont mean to see cristiano ronaldo there, but because the portuguese and small spanish groups settled in the area 500 years ago, theres a slight bit of portuguese and iberian blood in junubi people, especially around qeshm and bandar abbas, theres no actual portuguese there though

what the hell is an Iranian who has adopted arab culture?
Iran is a country not an ethnicity and a person with arab culture is arab.

na he means like persians that have gone down there and mixed with some arabs tere and live like them , like some junubi women wear the neghab, its an arab tradition that some others have adopted, but again its usually the arabs that wear it
