... Agenciju ONASA direktor UNITIC-a Mirsad Kurtović.

Basically what the article says that the New Unitic will be build in between the Holiday Inn and the 2 present towers, it will be 11 floors higher. It will be mostly office space, but also some apartment will be located all the way on top of the tower, construction is suppose to start this year they say but if not this year then next year around spring. It will be a modern tower with basically everything to provide great service. They are considering building some sort of viewing area on top of the tower to provide a look on the city since it will be the highest tower in BIH it will give a great view of the city. The shape of the building should be the same as the present ones but the facade and look will be something different. It will be a 70 million Km investment, and will be 39, 000m2.

Završeni svi zidarski, krovni i fasadni radovi.

Novi koševi i semafor u Skenderiji

i saw last week the film "grbavica", and i heard after a long time one song.
"sarajevo ljubavi moja", whoa.

Zajedno smo rasli, grade ja i Ti,

Isto plavo nebo poklonilo nam stih.

Ispod Trebevića sanjali smo sne,

Ko će brze rasti, ko će ljepši biti?

Ti si bio velik, a rodio se ja,

S Igmana uz osmijeh slao si mi san.

Dječak koji raste zavolio Te tad,

Ostao je ovdje vezan za svoj grad!

Bilo gdje da krenem o Tebi sanjam,

Putevi me svi Tebi vode.

Čekam s nekom čežnjom na svjetla Tvoja,

Sarajevo, ljubavi moja!

Pjesme svoje imaš i ja ih pjevam,

Želim da Ti kažem šta sanjam.

Radosti su moje i sreća Tvoja,

Sarajevo, ljubavi moja!

Kada prođu zime i dođe lijepi maj,

Djevojke su ljepše, ljubavi im daj.

Šetalište tamno uzdasima zri,

Neke oči plave, neke riječi nježne.

Sad je dječak čovjek i zima pokri brijeg,

Park i kosa bijeli, al´ otići će snijeg.

Proljeće i mladost ispunit će tad,

Sarajevo moje, jedini moj grad!

Bilo gdje da krenem o Tebi sanjam,

Putevi me svi Tebi vode.

Čekam s nekom čežnjom na svjetla Tvoja,

Sarajevo, ljubavi moja!

I was looking at the picture of the downtown area plan and what if that building by unitics is the new unitic? No one claimed the building and we know where GMC is and Unitic 3 is suppose be inbetween UNITICS 1&2 and Holiday Inn, so this could be Unitic 3, I just thought it could be possible.

Yes but at first their plan was 36 floors and then changed to 39, plus these are old renderings as you can tell just by looking at the GMC....the plan for that has totally changed, everything from the base to the scraper itself, looks nothing like the real offical plan. Who knows, well have to wait till end of this year or janaury next year when they finally starts, some said Unitic 3 would be on the parking lot of the unitic 1 and 2 but that area is way too small for a skyscraper.

U maju počinje izgradnja multipleks kina s pet sala

i dont think that is a fake, maybe there is not a pyramid, but the people really believe in a pyramid.
and not only bosnian:

"Iznenadilo me je kako smo brzo došli do dokaza o postojanju piramida.

SARAJEVO: CITY COUNCIL HOLDS CEREMONIAL SESSION WITH THE OCCASION OF 110TH ANNIVERSARY OF OPENING CITY HALL

SARAJEVO, April 20 (FENA) – The ceremonial session of the Sarajevo City Council with the occasion of the 110th anniversary of building and opening the City Hall, was held on Thursday in this representative facility from the Austro-Hungarian period in BiH.

The session was opened by the City Council Deputy Chair, Aida Habul. Deputy mayor Predrag Mitrovic stressed that the recovery of the Sarajevo City Hall would represent yet another confirmation of the dignity and the unbreakable spirit of the City of Sarajevo and the BiH State,

He said that the City of Sarajevo has planned 400.000 KM in this year’s budget for supporting the project of recovering the City Hall. The Vatican has recently contributed 5.000 to support this project.

Mitrovic also underlined the engagement of the new President of the International League of Humanists, Sonja Stiegelbauer on the mission of recovering the City Hall and her message that the pride of the country must not remain ruined. Stiegelbauer is also the president of the International association for recovering the National Library, which has so far raised 250.000 euros for the construction works on the City Hall.

The Sarajevo City Administration headed by mayor Semiha Borovac has taken the leading role in recovering the Sarajevo City Hall.

On this day in 1896, Baron Apel opened the City Hall and handed it over to the Sarajevo Municipality. The City Hall was inflamed in the night of August 25 1992.

Aktivnosti delegacije Kantona i Grada Sarajeva u Beču

Na poziv Austrijske međunarodne konsalting grupe, u dvodnevnoj posjeti Beču boravi delegacija Kantona i Grada Sarajeva. Delegaciju predvode premijer Kantona Denis Zvizdić i gradonačelnica Sarajeva Semiha Borovac.

Time će objekat postati otvoreniji i interesantniji za Sarajlije i turiste.

I agree with you on that but also the city needs money for it the EU only gave enough to rebuild the roof and central hall that’s about it. The rest we have to come up by ourselves. There was a initiative to get both the entities to finance the reconstruction, but the RS refused. Which is a bit strange if you ask me. I think the final bill is supposed to be around 20-30 million EURO’s.

Ah I just realized something the "magros" object on marin dvor was sold last year and construction of a new shopping center should start this summer, the investor will demolish the magros object and make a new cool modern shopping center. Which could make a huge construction site on Marin Dvor this summer if GMC as originally planned goes U/C, and the Parliament tower is U/C already and the new mall would make a huge U/C area on MD. awesome!!! Marin Dvor sure needs a shopping mall, but when triland makes theirs by unitics it will be pretty cool, even though I didn't like the idea at first.

The inside is totally destroyed. Furthermore reconstructing such a detailed building like that takes a lot of expertise and time, both of which are not cheap.

I don't think the pictures from the distance capture the actual damage on the building. There is facade peices falling off all the time at the top, some jerks sprayed the bottom side of it and there are ugly advertisements surrounding the entire thing. :(

Svečana sjednica Gradskog vijeća Sarajeva

Obilježeno 110 godina od otvorenja Vijećnice
http://www.oslobodjenje.ba/images/stories/dnevno/21april06/sab.jpg

U Sarajevu počela gradnja novog poslovnog objekta, investicija vrijedna 10 miliona KM

MOGLA IMATI 90 KILOMETARA AUTOCESTE NA KORIDORU Vc

As for this building - it's the OKI Business Center

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/429/10015984lw.jpg

I'm not sure I like how they're building these shopping centers and stuff infront of commie blocks. The idea is just bad...

The parliament is gonna look great when it's done, no matter what type of facade they choose to put up on it.

Some projects in Sarajevo are just finished poorly. They build the entire building and everything and then the rest of it is left like shit. The steps might be in poor quality and the flowers or whatever else they put in front has no real order. :( I sure that changes with the city soon...

But fuck all of that...GREAT PICTURES sniPsarajevo! YOU'RE ARE THE HERO OF THE DAY! :)

I think building them infront of commies is not a bad idea, gives back life to that part of the city. I dunno but most are UC so we'll see what they do with the surrounding, plus most of these surroundings are not owned by these hypermarkets and they can't go and start fixing them....city has to do that!

What I notice in other cities like New Zagreb and New Belgrade is all the projects are finished with nice landscaping and quality and that the surrounding area is also clean and stuff.

The grass always seems nicely mowed and green...with Sarajevo it's taller in some parts than others and dead in random plots. :(

NYC is bigger and richer and should have TOP parks, squares, streets, and yet it doesn't.....We can argue this for days but am telling you, sarajevo is hella clean. Croatias Highways are better then NYC's, and NYC is rich but yet sucks in keeping these services in top shape!

NY is a filthy city unless you live in a few select streets of manhattan. near the park is on the south west side is ok as is the CBD in lower manhattan. but areas like queens are the "armpit" and makes sarajevo look like the garden of eden.

having money to sepnd on lanscaping and clening sarajvo would do wonders to the city but the people have to agree to have it come out of their taxes..... interesting to hear opinions on that.

just a question-----

does anyone know if sarajevo has any plans to fix the smog problem that occurs around february.. apparently that is the worst time of the year and it does not look too healthy on some days. when i was living there it got so bad that i moved out of the city and ino a village 10km north of bascarsia.

.... buldozing a few mountains to create a breeze might help... however there must be more practical ways..... i herard once that mexico city built some sort of towers that generated electrons that created an artificial breeze that helped clear the air and reduce all the smog related infections and diseases.

is the air quality in sarajevo an issue with people and are there any plans to build anything to improve it in the trouble periods?

Yea I dont think they have plans to do that, but the air seems clean to me, only in the morning its foggy sometimes other then that I don't know anything...maybe in the future there would need to be more plans to make air cleaner but for now I think its alright.....

Before the war it was much worse in terms of air pollution.

The war destroyed most of the industries leading to better air quality.

the pictures look great..... is the pond picture "vrelo bosne"?.... if so it looks amazing. great post!!

its good to see that there are areas of the city that are so well looked after as well. of course there are areas that could be better maintained, especiay around the "commie blocks".

the biggest problem there is $$$$. landscaping and maintenance requires a lot of time and money and the comie blocks are structured so that noone is responsible for anything outside their own appartment. the communal areas are neglected and there arent enough green spaces. this could all be fixed with money, but of course someone has to pay for it.... if you incerase city taxes then poeple who don't live in the area are effectively boosting property prices in a different part of town which isnt really fair.

on the other hand, if you ask people in the commie blocks to fund the immediate area around their building .. you have a problem in that you arent able to raise enough money to lanscape the area properly. firstly there arent enough rate payers in each building and those that are there arent able to devote too much money for such luxuries. its quite a balancing act.

things will probably change in the not too distant future with the rise of condiminiums and "gated communities" like bosmal CC and "vrtovi reiverine" where rich residents pay for their own amenities, landscaping and upkeep, while the poor live in concrete jungles.

i guess its just something that the sarajevo city administartion will have to consider and try to address in order to avoid extremes like this (exaderated for dramatic effect!!! although this divide may not exist today in sarajevo, it probably will in 15 years)

Yes Royal blue glass would be awesome but I think they are keeping the old design which was white/baby blue as before the war! My cousins friends dad own the company which is working along the other companies on the Parliament and he said its a good chance it will be Like before the war facade, well have to wait and see what happens. Either way I rather have a constructed building then a broken down looking thing, and yea the skyline will be awesome once everything goes up, probably the best skyline on the balkans.

you are only partly right about english gardens and castles. in england only the rich live there.. thats the way their system is structured. their poor poeple live in such horrible conditions. even the middle class in places like leeds and birmingham live in total dumps. its awful!!!
however i have done quite a bit of travel (about 40 countries and hundereds of large cities) and seen cities that work and cities that dont work..... there are cities where the middle class is able to live in landscaped surroundings better then any garden in any castle.

the trick is money and organisation... money is important but organisation is even more important.

the secret i think is in housing estates, condiminiums and gated communities.

what heppens where i live is this.... there is a huge condiminium surrounded by a large plot of land and everyone who OWNS an appartment (not the renting tennant) has to pay certain fees that go to a body corporate (which is a company in charge of the building who is responsible for its upkeep and responsible for keeping the property values high.) this body coroprate maintains the gardens and imposes laws to that effect. it may issue fines if people litter or vandaliae the gardens and it may also issue fines if people hang their washing on their balconies. in the city that i live in these fees can vary from about 250KM per year to about 5000KM per year

some fees may be high because the salaries of the gardners and administartors is high.. in sarajevo, cost of labour is much cheaper and the same job could be done with a fracton of the money.

and the bigger the building is the cheaper the maintenance is; because you achieve "economies of scale" and everyone has to contribute only a small amount of money to have very beautiful surroundings.

these companies do a much better job then the government ever could in maintaining order and peace because they dont have courts and other administartive obsatcles. they issue fines and if you dont pay them they evict you from your appartment. if you own the place they might cut your electricity until you pay depending of what agreement you have.

if the owners think they are doing a bad job.. they have a vote to change the company that runs the building and everyone in the company loses their job. so its a good system.

if every development does this the city government has no obligations other then to build the roads as almost every middle class development has its beautiful parks and amenities.

i wish i knew how to post pictures on this thing because i am not very computer literate, and show what an average development looks like where i live.

its a system of living that's quite comon in places like florida and in parts of asia. and not as common in europe. europe (except england) manages to maintain beautiful cities; because they have governments with lots of money that are interested in this kind of thing. in america (and bosnia) where governemnts either CANT or WONT upkeep the city for whatever reason this might be the way of the future.

dont misunderstand me.... as i said earlier, sarajevo is very beautiful and nicely maintained...... i am just offering options on future direction thats all. i have seen cities that WORK, and i have studied the mechanisms thata make them work very carefully.

its very well saying sarajevo can improve.... we just need the HOW.

i would be grateful if anyone could tell me how to post a picture in this forum. thanks.

I have some pictures of the Parliament during pre-war times and the facade looked horrible. It looks like some commie block in Hong Kong (dirty in general).

I thought it was a good look, I would it to be glass but if its not then oh well, but am pretty sure if its not glass the design will change, they wont use the same exact material and colors for the new look....since Greece is building it, it should be something interesting...lets hope for the best!

oh i see..... anyway as someone said we have bled the internet dry of all sarajevo construction images for the moment we might as well exchange ideas on how to administer the city, until more info becomes available.

the dedication of some of the people in the foum is amazing... i would make them mayor. mind you.... whoever is runnign the city at the moment is also doing a very good job.. looks like sarajevo is going to be a huge regional financial and tourist centre. which is a lot better then having the factories they had before... i personally would rather work in an office then a factory.

whenever i think sarajevo is lagging behind they suddenly come up wih these incredible investments from nowhere. we have very capable people and people make the city... i believe we will overtake zagreb in many ways in the next 20 years (no offence zagreb -- you will always have a more polite population). zagreb has too many competitors in its immediate vicinity.... we have none. unfortunately we may always lag behind belgade because they have the danube. the danube is like a freeway conncting them to all the important european capitals.

http://www.bosmal.com/images/bosmal_city_centar/bcc_slika3.jpg
Bosmal City Center, the first condominium in this part of the world, is being constructed in the Hrasno district of Sarajevo. By condominium we mean a modern, private residential building with monitored entrances, reception, luxurious apartments and common areas serving the residents. Access to the residential and common areas of the object shall be restricted to the residents only, where their privacy is absolutely guaranteed. Common areas encompass lobbies, saunas, pool for adults and children, and a nursery. The most modern international technology and construction equipment is being used in the construction of this object, which began in November, 2001.

The Center offers 306 residential units, with 8 penthouses and 298 apartments, organised in 14 types, with areas ranging from 80 to 220 sq. m. Nine high-speed elevators connect to the garage-commercial area of the center. The residents will be absolutely secure, with special security service responsible for constant monitoring of the whole object, with 200 surveillance cameras on duty, sensors and other modern equipment.

The communication areas in the center, commercial areas and the underground garage with 400 parking lots are monitored from the reception point.

http://www.bosmal.com/images/bosmal_city_centar/bcc_slika1.jpg
Reaching a height of 118 meters, Bosmal City Center is the tallest residential building in the Balkans. A restaurant will be located at the highest point of the building, giving a panoramic view of the town, including the historical districts as well as the new part of town and its surroundings.
The commercial area will be open to the public, with two restaurants and a meeting bar, supermarket, hair and beauty saloons, dental practice, ambulance service, ophthalmologist’s and optician’s, leather goods boutique, art sales, jewelry shop and other exclusive boutiques. All the facilities within the center are inter-linked with a hundred-meter long promenade.

The value of the overall investment is 80 million EUR, being the biggest direct foreign greenfield investment in BiH. Participation of domestic companies from Bosnia and Herzegovina in construction and furnishing of this object amounts to 70%. The project engages over 65 companies with more than 3,500 workers.

Bosmal d.o.o. is indirectly contributing to the development of Sarajevo's infrastructure by regular settlements representing payment of all its obligations to the government. Projects such as the Fifth transit road and the bridge over the Miljacka river, which will link the main avenue of the city with the Bosmal City Center are being financed out of those funds.

Construction of the Bosmal City Center condominium, Sarajevo's "city within the city", signifies the beginning of a new concept of investments and modern construction in BiH, and the introduction of a new way of living.

What happened to the good projects man. :( The size and quality of most of our projects is complete bullshit. I didn't think I'd see the day when 3 floor buildings rule the city. :|

I guess every one should make 100 floor buildings and use 2 floors and the rest should be empty :| , these are private buidlings owned by small companies such as furniture or small construction companies who sell tiles, paint, tools, etc. So making 10+ floors buildings isnt needed since these are developing companies, later on they will develop into somthing bigger, hopefully. Most of these buildings are not in the downtown area or whatever, they are more in like residential areas, small building areas and so on. I rather see these smaller projects then houses being made. Well thats what I think, MIMICA don't expect too much of sarajevo, if you want bigger projects you have to travel down the main road and look around, and marind dvor. :)

If I were to show this to my Canadian collegues, they would fall on the floor...thats how houses should be built, not like they do here in N.A.
