Thanks AlOnSi for the pic. It's good to see that they've continued construction. They were really lucky in getting this location. Too bad AUK was not as lucky :tongue2:

I heard that AUK was initially given a piece of land in Shadadiya but they requested another one. Therefore were given a piece of land in Ardiya next to Jaber Al Ahmed Stadium. But they already have a good main campus in Salmiyah.

hey.

the second phase of GUST will include the construction of a second building and an expansion of facilities to inrease the student size from 3400 to 5500 and the faculty size from 200 to 400. these have been the only released facts at the moment, but i'm sure that more will be available after Phase I opens.

Nice projects. I have some friends who go to just. isn't it a college for people with lower than average marks (sort of like the College of North Atlantic in Qatar)?

I think that this college allows people with below average marks but in return will not graduate these students until they become competent enough :)

Yeah furthermore I've heard that GUST is getting harder every year. They were easy at the beginning just like the American University of Sharjah but AUS is like extremely hard at the moment.

GUST doesn't give regular diplomas it gives bachelor degrees :)

This university is quite good. They mainly offer degrees in Arts and business but I heard that they will be offering dentistry in a few years time maybe when this campus is completed.

I had a tour of the University like 6 weeks ago... They had just moved...

Its amazing... Its beautiful... I love the design...

It has the smallest carpark because its not yet finished... Some areas are blocked... There are supposed to be new carpark areas to be opened...

The IT administrator or IT something was the main person giving us the tour... He claims its the most Intelligent Building in the Entire middle east...!

And honestly, i'm inclined to believe him... Its just ridiculous... A bit too much too be honest.. The smart classrooms... Some doctors are a bit computer illiterate, no need for soo much technology in all classrooms, hehe...

Just to give you an idea... There are LCD/Plasma screens in all corridors and the library...

Each Class has a little screen outside the door showing the classes scheduled, so a student doesn't have to open the door and interrupt the class to make sure what class is being held...

When u enter the class, lights automatically light up as infrared detects ppl entering the class.. There are electronic shutters for the windows... There are smart boards... You swipe ur card to enter class... and swipe ur card on the instructor's desk for attendance..

The lights automatically turn off as you leave.. And supposedly even the AC's are automatically lowered, to conserve electricity consumption...

Your student ID gives u access to just certain rooms/classes, facilities... Cuz u need the electronic ID card to go here and there..

There are speakers in all corridors and offices... And any single speaker can be isolated for a single message.. or All together...

There are high-def Cameras in all corridors that also record audio...

There are Auditoriums with high defintioin projectors that can be used for Video conferencing... and a cool podium that can electronically rise or be lowered, according to the height of the speaker...

Its a beautiful campus.. :) Ridiculous amount of technology.. hehe.. Congrats...

thanks for the info. B :)

hmmm, doesn't the cameras that record audio are a bit scary ! intruding into people's privacy :P

Thanks B-Patriot. Wicked facilities. Hope all universities at Kuwait get this kind of mind-boggling technology. It's about damn time. I am doing my PhD here in the UK, which requires that I check references from several universities (Birmingham, Manchester, Durham, Edinburgh, University College of London and London Metropolitan University in July) and I have not seen or checked a single facility of what you just mentioned. WOW! Absolutely stunning.

Students at Kuwait deserve this kind of fancy technology

Why r u choosing such far apart uni's... in Manchester, London, Scotland... LoL... Now u need something in the south, maybe Brighton, and Wales.. and u'll have been all over...

Its a 3 year program, the PhD.. right..? Anyways, goodluck..

^^ Yeah! It's a 3-year programme and I'm studying at Durham University (near Newcastle). The reason I checked these universities specifically is because these are the leading universities in the Translation Studies programme (my major) and not too many unis provide the good references. I also attended some of them since they held translation conferences. Still, haven't noticed any of the facilitiesyou mentioned above.

Anyway, thanks :)
