This is the 2nd tallest building in the middle east after Burj Dubai....
Not for very long though, The tallest block is raising cross the street. I would give it another year and half and it will go down to 5th or 6th. Not to mention the towers in Kwuit and Mecca.
Big race in the GCC countries that will mess up the world ranking for super talls big time!!:nuts:

Gee, I have to say that this tower turned out really nice! The first renders made me sceptical but to see now the whole complex, especially the floweresque shaped base section is just pure eye candy!

the fatter part at the spire looks ugly. nice building, yes, but the spire ruined it.

I agree, the spire should have been less tall, only the fat part for example. It would have looked much better then.

I think the stepped design of the spire works perfectly - it echoes the stepping of the two roof levels below it, and the angular design too. It's not a traditional 'spire' but that's a good thing. A regular spire would not suit this building - the architect did a good job with this design.

Wow nice building... I saw it on a list of tallest buildings of Dubai and printed out a render of it, still got it here. I thought it was only approved, but it's already topped out! Great! In which area of Dubai is it? Cuz I'm gonna visit Dubai in 2010 and would be nice to visit this tower. And is ther an observation deck? Or is it not for the normal public?

^^ Maybe they have additionally included the light on top of the spire. BTW they are putting a blue neon strip at the edge of the tower's silhouette.

Will they change the tiles on the spire? it made it look old. :(

They will have to replace it soon for first maintenance. Obviously there is a quality problem!!

Maybe the discovering of the panels (bad) quality is one of the reasons why the cladding has been very slow or stalled recently

Yes, there will be a row of towers behind them that are above 200. At least 4 are already under construction.

I dont know why many towers in Dubai are unknown height? I noticed that when they listed them after T/O on emporis! like many many of them!

The spire's panels looks rusty they should replace those with the new ones. I think heat could be a factor for making those panels deformed.

when I first read about this tower it was referred to as the worlds tallest sun-dial. my question is: does this tower really function in such a way?

Looks like they still have some protective covers over the last pieces of cladding. But it looks much better now, much "cleaner".

Imre, that last shot with the train is superb. Nice shot!

OFFTOPIC: are there any plans or renders available for the landscaping of the intersetcion that we can see on Imre's last pic? I can only imagine how beautiful it will loook after landscaping and or adding buildings there.

OFFTOPIC: are there any plans or renders available for the landscaping of the intersetcion that we can see on Imre's last pic? I can only imagine how beautiful it will loook after landscaping and or adding buildings there.

few weeks ago there were a big mess, its clean now (only one toilet left :) ), there is some part where they are removing the rubbish , hopefully landscaping coming soon,I saw the board , it would be similar as the Interchange 5.

no, the white areas are protective layers, maybe they have changed the cladding panels?

There's been some trouble with the cladding for a long time now. The tower reminds me of a beautiful woman with slight acne, when you look closer :|

Hopefully they can fix it permanently - then Almas Tower will be a perfect 10!

The Conference Centre is located in the ground level of the flagship, 65-storeyed Almas Tower in the heart of JLT free zone, the prime business district of New Dubai, master developed by DMCC. It houses the region’s first Diamond Exchange, the most sought-after address for the gem trade.

The Almas Conference Centre, the only one of its kind in the area, is custom-designed to host corporate conferences, conventions and exhibitions, with a touch of class that comes with all facilities in JLT. You sure about this? Imre's interrior photos on page 59 show completely furnished floors near the top.

^^ Externally not yet completed, plus most of the floors were given to the owners in shell form. Those floors near the top belongs to the owners of the tower (DMCC)

It would be 100 % finish when the Taisei gets all payments so I think still long way:)

I havent seen any workers there for a long , I think they already left the site.

Whats wrong with this tower, why is it STILL unfinished?

Contractors left because they didnt get payments, thats all.

they should take the plastic off!! otherwise, when they finally do, the other panels will be sundamaged and have changed tone. can't be that expensive to get some people to peel off the sheets.

Such a shame. I really like this tower.

One of my favorites of all time. A masterpiece of architectural design.

Of course location is better! I mean if you look at the marina block cross the street you cant appreciate much the stack of supertalls which many are taller than this one because all the block are in same height range! Almas is standing alone with no rival here! reminds me with the pyonyang tower sorta
