smussuw April 21st, 2006, 06:02 PM am I the only one who thinks that a moderator would eventually come and lock all those threads?
dubaiflo April 21st, 2006, 06:34 PM meadows will do it. there is no reason but he will do it. :D
i think every 300m + UC deserves its own thread.
even if there are 10 or more like in Dubai.
Tom_Green April 21st, 2006, 06:34 PM am I the only one who thinks that a moderator would eventually come and lock all those threads?
Don`t be so pessimistic.
Now Dubai has as many threads as Moscow, New York or Chicago.
R@ptor April 21st, 2006, 07:47 PM am I the only one who thinks that a moderator would eventually come and lock all those threads?
Why should a moderator do this? We are talking about a 328m supertall here! If this doesn't qualify as something being posted in the world forums...what does???
dubaiflo April 21st, 2006, 07:51 PM ^^ they have done this with 40 Tower project JBR.
TroyBoy April 22nd, 2006, 12:27 AM Why should a moderator do this? We are talking about a 328m supertall here! If this doesn't qualify as something being posted in the world forums...what does???
He couldve put them into one thread which would be easier to find.
mookieflookie April 22nd, 2006, 12:43 AM He couldve put them into one thread which would be easier to find.
It would be disorganized as the thread gets bigger
There should be one thread for each unique supertall
The Mad Hatter!! April 22nd, 2006, 12:46 AM I've suggested a dubai construction thread a couple of times already, maybe you guys should do two construction threads, where one could be everything under 250m and the other everything over.
mookieflookie April 22nd, 2006, 01:36 AM one thread for each supertall, regardless of where it is (new york, kuala lumpur, singapore, dubai, etc.)
The Mad Hatter!! April 22nd, 2006, 01:44 AM well then people shouldn't start asking why are they're some many dubai threads when all threads on the world forums are from dubai.
zee April 22nd, 2006, 01:48 AM dubai should have its own league in the world forums
TowerPower April 22nd, 2006, 05:23 AM ^^ Good idea, let's get started on that... :)
Jue April 22nd, 2006, 07:36 AM It's unfair how Dubai threads are locked. These are monumental buildings here; a city should not be discriminated against just because it has a lot of construction. If these buildings were in American or European cities, people would cry foul. What if all of London must be confined to a "London Construction Thread", for example, and even 300m+ towers cannot get their own threads?
dubaiflo April 22nd, 2006, 12:00 PM ^^ :hahaha: good one.
well we limited ourselves to the supertalls UC and the real good designs like park place.
Nevertheless there are a lot more supertalls which should start construction really soon...
Mosaic April 22nd, 2006, 04:19 PM Very dynamic and strong looking, quite unique design indeed.
scorpion April 22nd, 2006, 09:49 PM ^^ :hahaha: good one.
well we limited ourselves to the supertalls UC and the real good designs like park place.
Nevertheless there are a lot more supertalls which should start construction really soon...
:)
BrizzyChris April 23rd, 2006, 08:23 AM What a great design. Probably the best I have seen proposed in Dubai.
dubaiflo April 23rd, 2006, 12:33 PM ^^ it is UC!
and it is not that great.. :weird:
it is cool but.. i mean.. it is boxy ;)
Mosaic April 23rd, 2006, 06:32 PM Its design is quite unique and powerful. I like it.
Grollo April 24th, 2006, 08:04 AM Great design, very industrial look to it but not too fussy. Reminds me of the John Hancock Centre how it tapers as it rises and the residential/office mix.
If this tower was going up in London or Chicago it would be hailed as a ground breaking design and this thread would be up to part 5, but since it in Dubai it is treated like just another tall in Dubai :)
Th3-Co0L-P3rTh-Guy April 24th, 2006, 08:09 AM i would have 2 agree, very unique, but i think it is to much of a rectangle ^^ :poke: very nice tower anyway :) :)
TroyBoy April 24th, 2006, 10:21 PM Your american were supposed and usally like rectangular skyscrapers better.
The sears being the best in the world.
FM 2258 April 24th, 2006, 10:27 PM Your american were supposed and usally like rectangular skyscrapers better.
The sears being the best in the world.
haha.....I'm not sure if its' because I'm American but I do like tall rectangular buildings with a flat top the best like the Sears Tower or World Trade Center.
zee April 24th, 2006, 10:39 PM ^^ i find flat tops boring...the architects jus being plain lazy
CrazyCanuck April 24th, 2006, 10:56 PM Flat top rectangular buildings evoke a big business style of architecture. No flashy kitsch to deal with meaning business.
CULWULLA April 25th, 2006, 03:01 PM i too think its ok to have all these threads. Any project over 300m deserves its own thread, especially in world construction forums.
i love this bldg. Foster is a genious.
cheers

metallinestorm April 30th, 2006, 03:17 AM this one looks very cool
Marcanadian April 30th, 2006, 03:29 AM Dubai is truly insane.
Nice tower though.
Mosaic April 30th, 2006, 06:41 PM I can't wait to see this tower rising. Thanks, AltinD for an updates.

6 Weeks gone. We need pictures! :bash: :bash:
Indica June 9th, 2006, 07:23 PM ^^ i find flat tops boring...the architects jus being plain lazy
You would hate downtown Los Angeles then.. all of the towers there are flat tops as well, but that is because of a city ordinance which requires all high rises to be flat at the top so helicopters can land on them.. Hence the
Library Tower, which was the tallest building in the world with a helipad on it 310+ meters up... I think it still is, but Im not sure...
germantower June 10th, 2006, 03:13 AM The Index looks a little bit like One Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City.On the one hand its a boring box skyscraper design, but on the other hand its very interesting because it is so thin.It would look really cool if the tower is curved designed!
Krazy June 10th, 2006, 08:30 AM ^^ it's about 80m taller than One Chase and has a much better design
germantower June 10th, 2006, 05:35 PM ^^ it's about 80m taller than One Chase and has a much better design
I wrote it looks "a little bit" like One Chase Manhattan Bank and not same!!!!!!!!!Thats a difference....
Citystyle June 11th, 2006, 04:57 PM Flat top rectangular buildings evoke a big business style of architecture. No flashy kitsch to deal with meaning business.
Depends on the approach and philosophies behind the business. Square monuments to commerce do little to tickle the architectural community but they are often damn impressive.
Good to see new thinking, new business moving to clever and interesting designs, that support there clever business thinking.
Thats why he says america big american business, instead of eastern horizons. But it's just a sterotype and changing fads.
malec June 11th, 2006, 05:39 PM Crazycanuck is right, boxy buildings do seem to evoke a big business feeling better than others. Dubai's skyscrapers are mostly of the flashy type so it's good to have some variety. I'd love to see some more of these types of towers in future.
DiggerD21 June 11th, 2006, 07:01 PM I like the design. Bold but not boring. Also it looks a bit like a computerchip.
ZZ-II June 11th, 2006, 11:38 PM Yes the Design is good, on the renders it looks so big and gigantic.
Mosaic June 12th, 2006, 08:45 PM I can't wait for the tower to rise.
Indyman June 13th, 2006, 12:53 AM I think the only interesting thing is the name.
CULWULLA June 13th, 2006, 01:28 AM Index will be a bit more then a box. being a Foster bldg its interiors will have voids or atriums etc.this size "box" will be a much needed bldg for Dubai. It will be massive, approx 90m/300ft in width!!

megatower July 30th, 2006, 03:13 AM this tower is cool. i wish they built this tower with in the burj dubai complex,it would be a very nice view of the hole complex from one of the top floors

soup or man September 24th, 2006, 12:26 AM It's quite ugly.
ZZ-II September 24th, 2006, 03:17 PM one of the best towers in Dubai
Zaki September 24th, 2006, 08:43 PM Really like this design. Very different from all the other dubai towers.
CULWULLA September 25th, 2006, 02:21 AM its a norman Foster design? it will be brilliant. every great city needs a foster building!
thats one big corebox.
Mosaic September 25th, 2006, 10:04 AM Nice model, thanks, The Index looks so grand and powerful.
CrazyDave September 26th, 2006, 01:10 AM I really like this building for Dubai. For some city's the buildings width and height together would be to overpowering. But with some of the Towers and Projects that I being built in Dubai; this one will fit in just fine. :runaway:
SaRaJeVo-City September 26th, 2006, 01:33 AM I like this tower, its simple but very cool looking.

AltinD November 7th, 2006, 10:41 AM ^^ Dubai International Financial Centre will have underground traffic, parking and pedestrian zones, so it must be part of that.
dubaiflo November 7th, 2006, 04:03 PM i think this will be either the pedestrian zone with mall to left and right or the underground car park access ramp.
however it is more likely this will be the access ramp probably, since it leads to Doha street, resp to the current road behind SZR skyscrapers.
Patrick Highrise November 7th, 2006, 10:50 PM this building will be huge is so manu ways...one (eh more then one :D ) big core(s)....thanks guys for the updates! :okay:

Does anyone has some floor plans.
As far as I can conclude are all the lifts and staircases in the left and right part of the building.
Those two parts does have a kind of core function.
Will there be any cladding on the massive concrete stucture of those "cores". If yes, what kind of material will be used.
great184 December 15th, 2006, 05:14 PM This structure is so massive that it seems to too have several independent cores and three floor plates per floor!

Index is so massive.. incredible
ZZ-II January 11th, 2007, 06:51 PM in that pic you really can see how big it'll be
FM 2258 January 11th, 2007, 07:05 PM Damn....so many buildings hitting 1000ft and over in such a small area. Amazing!!!
DG January 11th, 2007, 07:12 PM it is so huge!!, looks 3 towers in 1!!
Mosaic January 11th, 2007, 07:34 PM very massive base and so wide.
ZZ-II January 11th, 2007, 10:33 PM can't wait to see the first glass
CULWULLA January 12th, 2007, 01:30 AM im pretty sure i worked out its about 90m/300ft wide

megatower January 12th, 2007, 02:04 AM can't wait to see the first glass
you most likely will see glass on the index then on the burj dubai 1st
googlepeakoil January 12th, 2007, 02:16 AM I'd personally like to see the top glass section redesigned... it looks really odd sticking up there. I'm also not sure what the point of the big concrete wings at the side are? There's no floor area on either side of them. It seems far more "over-braced" than it needs to be.
From what this architect has done before - i would have expected a bit more... we'll see how it looks, i don't think it's the best render... don't think it's on a par with SOM unfortunately, and i'm British!
Still I think those shades over the windows are a good idea from an environmental point of view.
Daireon January 12th, 2007, 02:29 AM I really like this building, although i'm not sure about those huge concrete wings... But it's a nice proyect! :okay:
ZZ-II January 12th, 2007, 07:06 PM you most likely will see glass on the index then on the burj dubai 1st
i always will see glass on a building as soon as possible :)
Bender January 12th, 2007, 10:23 PM i always will see glass on a building as soon as possible :)
No no we can no longer count floors when they start installing the cladding.
I also think the two concrete ends of the building are a bit too big.
Greg January 12th, 2007, 10:25 PM Amazing tower
Escoto_Dubai2008 January 13th, 2007, 02:17 AM Yes, The Index is an amazing tower that is growing on the wonderful Dubai's skyline.
eng_kheffa January 14th, 2007, 05:28 PM i think it must be taller owing to his big area 2 be not strange with other SZR buildings
AltinD January 23rd, 2007, 05:33 PM They have finally started tagging the floor numbers, HUGE number tags I may add, so now it can be said for sure that it has reached the 20th floor.
DocShergar January 24th, 2007, 12:36 PM ^^ Your such a tease AltinD!! :)
Gerard January 24th, 2007, 01:17 PM This is a great development. Very impressive tower indeed and great progress also.
The location is very good for the skyline. Because it is nog on the SZR it wille bring more depth to the skyline.
Any new pictures on progress btw ??

AltinD February 14th, 2007, 04:06 PM ^^ Yup, It jumped yesterday (on the 25th)
Taylorhoge February 14th, 2007, 04:44 PM Wow cool design will it be the second tallest building in Duabi?
googlepeakoil February 14th, 2007, 04:54 PM this things going to dramatically alter the skyline of Dubai - it's gonna look like some colossus.
AltinD February 14th, 2007, 05:02 PM Completed or topped up:
Burj Dubai 415m (and growing)
Emirates Office Tower 355m
Rose Rotana Hotel 333 m
The Index it will be just 328m so even if it was completed today it will not be more then the 3rd tallest tower. There are at least 8 other towers under construction (one will even be completed before Index) that will be taller and more are approved and should start soon.
Stephan23 February 14th, 2007, 06:55 PM ^^Yeah Baby! :okay: :D:D:D Yeahhhh!!!
Escoto_Dubai2008 February 14th, 2007, 08:02 PM Yes, it is true that there will be taller buildings than The Index, but still the tower has a great design.

It doesn't look like it gets much narrow in the Rendering. Do we know how wide it'll be at the roof? I'm sure it's going to have one of the largest roofs in the world.
AltinD February 18th, 2007, 01:34 PM ^^ Sure it doesn't get much narow, but still the top IS narrower then the base.
