^^ The Core? To me the upper floors look like the whole square footage of the tower itself, with the quadratic base below. The octagonal shape is visible, and unlike at Princess Tower, I don't see a seperate core right now.

Yes, it doesn't look like a "normal core".
But its function is still as the main structure, which support the major forces.

Sure it's a "normal" core, the structural integrity is further enhanced by taking the corewalls to the outer eight points, hence the "crucifix" shape of the core, this is also known as a right angel sheerwall, these "extentions" act as outriggers for the structure giving additonal strength to the floorplates, and also eliminating the need for additonal vertcal columns, a very strong system for a tower with small floorplates, such as this one.

only when it is completed earlier than princess :)

but if the pentominium is completed princess and 23 marina will be both beaten :colgate:

pentominium is still a dirt patch. princess and 23 marina will be completed in 2009 and both will be tallest units in world. The chicago spire will take over after them because its foundations are being done now which is more then Pentmomiums.
Chicago spire will be worlds tallest resi in 2011 ish. It should be tallest resi for a while unless Al burj is pure residential, then it will be tallest.

^^ No, but the contractor is over stretched and there's a shortage of laborers in Dubai at the moment due to the booming construction industry in India and a massive fall in value of the local Dirham (pegged to USD), compared to the Indian Rupee.

In a straight line, Princess and 23 marina are 400 meters apart, with the torch being slightly closer to 23.

Looks quite different than the chosen design... With the slope on the walls...

There is no slope on the walls (except the roof). Only the view to the board and the picture on the board that is perspective stretched on the base make this look. (You see the stretching of the pic on the podium of 23 marina. In reality is no slope but on the board it is...)

Infinity tower has the foundation poured and working on the first basement level with clear circular core.
They've started digging a little at the pentominium site I think. Don't know exactly what's going on.
Don't know if they've reached any depths with marina 106 or if it's just the signboard there.
Haven't a clue about ocean heights. Check www.damacproperties.com since they have updates sometimes.
Damac Heights probably nothing.

End of the month is still more than a week away. I recon you'll get an update by then :)

The walls seem to have slope because the board is too tall and the camera man in standing on the ground. the upper portion of the drawing looks small while base looks big thus giving a perception that the building has wider base and narrow top. If it was taken from a little farther, they would have started to look almost of the same width.

Ah - here comes cladding for 23 Marina... the walls will be almost white. But the glass panel is quite different from the single one that has been there to the right for months: it looks darker and has another segmentation.

This is my personal favorite of the Marina Supertalls. Glad to see it making such swift progress.......what's the deal with that road intersection? You can make left and right turns but not go straight? Bizarre.

No jump forward für 23 Marina this month so far... only parts of a new floor and one crane have risen, while the core hasn't grown since 26-09.:ohno:
In the meantime, Mag 218 in the foreground is moving on with structure and cladding and overtaking 23 Marina (and scoot68s floor level). And inbetween, the holes for Pentominium and Marina 106 have progressed, too.:)

A little disappointing to not see any progress on this tower for quite some time. I guess the workers were all sent to other sites (The Torch perhaps?) They have the same developer, I think. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Its design seems to be heavilly influenced by MLC Centre in Australia.

The adaptation of older designs into new concepts and their improvement is the cornerstone of architectural history. My comment was a observation, and a positive one, not a negative remark.

Dubai: Construction of 23 Marina, the new Dubai landmark that is set to rise up to 90 floors, is going ahead as planned fand is expected to be complete in 2011, at a time when many developers are shelving projects, a company statement said on Monday.

Dubai Civil Engineering was assigned to construct the tower by the developers Hircon International.

The mega-structure will have 57 swimming pools, a world record. Every duplex apartment in the building will have an independent plunge pool, apart from temperature controlled pools and children's pools on the other levels.

Hircon International is a joint venture between ETA Star Properties and Hiranandani Developers.

"23 Marina, once completed, will be one of the best residential buildings in the world.

"It will have every form of luxury a resident can dream of, like a five-star health spa, Jacuzzi for every duplex, private and high-speed elevators, grand sea view and many more. It is known as 90 levels of luxury," the company said in a statement.

In the renders it kind of reminds me of a bigger, blue Washington Monument with windows.

I got the impression thar "Twenty-three" is speeding up again... cladding on all faces, and more floors on top:). On Jan 25th, core was six levels above the first mechanical floors, right? These pics show for the first time a bit of the pencil-like slenderness that 23 Marina will finally have.
