... and a closer look proves: this is indeed the top of the spire. Even the lightning rod can be seen, so the "T/O"-label is correct. :)

Tottaly agree looks so misplaced right now dident expect something like this being put on the top. The rest of the spire really got a job to do if the top is gonna go in one with the rest of the building.

Wow... I never noticed that... I thought it'd be somewhat obelisk-like, with a square-ish shaft of sorts ending in a pyramid-like point. I didn't know it'd literally be a pyramid on top of a stick... That's really not that nice looking at all :/

well, first of all, thanks for another round of word torrents on how fugly and or tacky you find this, or any other building. Just as useful as the guy who noted for the 10,000th time that those tower are sooooo close together. :old:

are we the top architects here in the forum, and the people actually chosen to do the job are all bloody amateurs? If we are so great, why do they get paid the big bucks and we don't? all curruption, huh.

now back on topic: remember that seeing such big structures in reality is quite different from looking at pics thousands of miles away.

where's the "tacky goldy" :bash: coming from? the "diamond" on top is nothing but glas (transparent with a blue tint), metal (silverish), and panels with white stripes (white), period. what a surprise - designer must have attended the Design 101 class!! :cheers:

besides of it looking very unique compated to other spires, it is totally subtle because of its size relative to the building.

Furthermore, i also dont care about the choosen architects on grand scale projects. They need to do their job properly, to give cities beautiful, well planned buildings. Unlike, what Vinoly is currently doing in Manhattan e.g. See, i criticized something in NYC, not Dubai. And just because we aren't architects, doesn't mean we aren't allowed to share our personal opinion about building's details. Otherwise we don't need to sign up on a DISCUSSION board, you know.

Yeah, seing a big structure in reality is different than in pictures. But isn't it a big difference, if the design or just the scale attracts?

And "unique" isnt always the best solution. IMO a simple silverish sphere, would give this tower a better top, than this diamontlike thingy. Since this tower, is one of the better looking Dubai towers, just because it is simple and subtle in design, i find it even more disappointing to see the choosen top detail.

And i don't get it, why you are calling any kind of Dubai related criticism bashing. Is my opinion in the 440 Park Avenue thread also bashing? anyways. back on topic. the pyramid on top is not golden. it may appear on a couple of pics. IMO introducing a sphere on top would be a complete new shape and sort of violates basic design rules (= this is constructive criticism btw). the pyramid shape, however, fits mostly everything. a plane spire poll, on the other hand, has already been put on many other buildings around.

IMO that shape fits the rest of the building very well. not sure if a sphere, cube, or poll would fit just as well.

While I agree with you that the pyramidal shape as the pinnacle of this tower does indeed fit with the tower, I think why others and myself think that the spire is "ugly" or "tacky" is because of what's in between it and the actual building: a stick that is thinner than the pinnacle. To me, it looks unstable and weak. That is just my opinion on why the spire doesn't look so good. The tower is nice. The pinnacle is as well. But the spire with said pinnacle isn't that appealing to me.

I would think the metal rail is for maintenance. if ever somebody needed to go up there this is where they could attach their safety hook, and hold on to or even stand on. without the rail it would be impossible. Can't really be a design feature since it is virtually invisible from the ground.

Spire is 'meh' so far, which is bad considering I thought this to be number one tower on the tallest block design-wise. Octagonal spire would be better IMO. But let's wait for the finished product.

A great night lighting scheme, would be the only saviour of that fat-arse pinnacle. :)

I actually like it, I guess it will turn out good as a whole with the building. As we say in my city... It's very good looking from far haha.

Come in our contry and find building higher than 89.5 m.

If u look at the building and all what you see is just a structure with repeated floors every time then u might be right. but you have to look more into details and you will see a great difference. You might even recognize many buildings as land marks if you notice those details ( including the height of course)

Well I dunno about lined up, but the Three Brothers in Shanghai (Jin Mao Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center and future Shanghai Tower) are all immediately next to each other.

If you're okay with calling 4WTC a supertall (it's 298m), then there's 2, 3 and 4WTC which form a line. But if not, 1WTC is right next to them too, so I think that count :)

Nice shots! Nice to have a fresh angle to see from.

I just can't get over those huge triangular balconies in the third section of the tower. It makes it look like a giant mace! I think without those the sharp lines would make this a stunner.

So if you want to swim, you better go elsewhere - the podium has bigger pools, I think. These pools here are more like "giant bath tubs" and of course can't be some meters deep. Taking a bath, you aren't too exposed, as they are placed towards the inside, and there's more balcony area to the left and right. But still a very nice appartment feature.:) Btw. the jutting balcony floors' heights seem to increase from apex to the base.

I saw last night that some edged on those triangles on top are going to be lit up. white light bars, and quite wide too. one was plugged in for testing.

I like the spire work a lot... but the pentominium to the left looks sad.

The spire is the best and only good part of this tower. The 3-different sections just don't do it for me.

Yeah, I'm changing my opinion of the spire. I quite like it now :)

The spire looks great, but it must have been scary for the workers having to put up so many levels of Scaffolding at that height.

they had two airobatic displays along the beach and the lagoon. both a jet plane formation, and propeller later. either for the boat race or skydiving world cup there - not sure which one. but it was close to this bright red sunset, which as you said was amazing.

I wish I had full sea view yesterday. or the night before with the fireworks on the beach...

The crown looks great. I can't wait for a night shot showing the lighting effects.

Finally most of the scaffolding tangle has disappeared - this really improves the tower's look. :)
I wonder if those cable-like connections between the crown's triangle crests and the spire will be permanent or not.

Its a great building...but I wonder why they just didn't cross 400m mark just short by 7 m ....it could pass 400m magic figure easily......

This tower has grown on me, not as revolting as I thought it would turn out to be. The crown imo is strikingly different, and that just does it for me!

Beautiful... the final result is better than any render... I remember almost 5 years ago when I saw the first renders of this tower... and now is almost complete!

The pools looks less than 1 meter deep - I count 5 steps outside:

It's the double floor architecture, that allows a lowered balcony roof outside, without suffering too much light.

The "pools" are a bit too small. In comparison with the size of the balconies they could be bigger and more to the edge of the balcony. But maybe it isn't possible because of weight or something.

It's not a new concept, either a pendulum or enclosed water tanks use, is more or less the norm.

Burj Khalifa was supposed to have water tanks on top of the concrete section, but later during construction was calculated that they weren't needed and the concrete structure shape and strength was enough to keep the tower from swaying withing the acceptable parameters.

Are there any good sites with info on the interior(s) of this building? I like how this turned out, I found it hard to visualise but it looks a lot better than the giant pencil it seemed it would look like originally. Still, for once I'm actually more interested in the interiors...

They should complete work here in a few months. It will be nice to see it after a good facade clean up.

I also love the swimming pool, for it's size, being one of the biggest, if not the biggest of any tower in town, but above all for the super cool effect of the interconnectivity between the indoor and outdoor parts. :cheers:

It is the really top part, but I don't remember if it supposed to be a penthouse or some communal area, but the internal glass walls makes me think it can't be the former. :dunno:
