I think we should limit the updates to 5 pics a person. People are already not too interested in this project (at least it seems like they aren't) and now you have to wait like 5 minutes for a page to load. Any of the Dutch members with me on this? Oranje Strijder March 23rd, 2011, 04:00 PM I agree. :) it doesn't take 5 minutes for me to load a page on here (more like 10 seconds) but still... it's a bit too much. ;) I think in general people get turned away by the big load time this thread could give. Perhaps pick only the photos that are truly pretty and give a substantial update when compared to the previous one. Now it's a bit much of the same... I could post 20 pics in separate posts but then you still would have to open 20 pics. :| It's not about the number of pictures as much as that they just stack up on 1 page. Theoretically, if you split those 20 pics into 3 posts instead of 1, then each page would only have 1/3 the total pictures. Either way works, I am definitely interested in these buildings, but we don't all have state of the art computers over here :) Ni3lS March 27th, 2011, 11:14 PM Anyway, just leave it at 3 to 5 please. Eric Offereins June 16th, 2011, 10:54 PM ^^ Basically its huge size and poor economics meant that it was hard to get enough occupants for this tower. The city coucil then decided this development was so important for this area that they would lease a huge part of the office space. It is expected that they will start with the cladding this month. Eric Offereins October 4th, 2011, 12:30 PM Here are some proposed claddings. Which one will be chosen is not clear yet, probably the last one Mijn Theorie: Op de foto's zien we een opstelling met verschillende gevelopties. Otherwise, it could just look either too heavy or too wide. Or both things. I think that with a new developer of Baltimore, it should become a mixed use tower, or even residential only. Eric Offereins December 11th, 2011, 01:40 PM Thx Skyscrapercitizen! Don't worry, it's not Toronto, everything they will build at that location will be of good quality. This little island turns into a micro-manhattan :) It has been nicknamed Manhattan at the Maas At least the ambitions have not decreased here. Proud on OMA architects, the builders and developpers. This is really "un-Dutch". Finally we dare to build such confronting architecture. Arrrgh December 11th, 2011, 03:50 PM I don't see why a building in Rotterdam, designed by a Dutch architect, developed by a Dutch developer is "un-dutch" We've created a country out of the sea, protected it by a massive infrastructure of dams and dikes, host the largest port of Europe, are at the heartland of the European economy, et cetera. We can be proud of ourselves, and should not use terms as "un-dutch". Next to that, we founded New York :) Manhattan should become a Rotterdam on the Hudson ;) Skyscrapercitizen December 11th, 2011, 04:05 PM Though it is massive, the design looks very good. I wonder if there will be a user. Who needs so much office space these days? De Rotterdam is not only office. Two blocks are residential, 3 blocks are office, 1 block is 4 star hotel by NH. Nsch February 14th, 2012, 09:30 PM Poor Rotterdam. Thats so far the ugliest new project here on SSC just behind that trash tower in Benidorm. It looks like a monoblock complex! :ohno: SASH SCF February 15th, 2012, 11:59 AM ^^ Moron! :ohno: citysight February 15th, 2012, 11:06 PM I totaly agree with you Sash, this building is the best one that's under construction rightnow:) citysight February 18th, 2012, 09:19 AM thanx for all the great pictures here everyone:) i hope when de rotterdam is finished it wil be enlightened in the night..that would be great Kimiwind1184 February 18th, 2012, 09:36 AM thanx for all the great pictures here everyone:) i hope when de rotterdam is finished it wil be enlightened in the night..that would be great It will look like that: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g436/kimiwind1184/397009_310623842304488_100000706240571_1015735_1514310227_n.jpg I did take this photo when I visited the construction site last year. tim1807 February 18th, 2012, 01:17 PM ^^It's just amazing. Malyan February 18th, 2012, 03:42 PM A really amazing tower which would be breathtaking if it was 100m taller - but I am really afraid that it is MUCH too short to look good when finished. This thing is so insanely broad that even now, with more than 70m and almost half of the final height, it looks like a short lowrise-block. I think that it will always look somehow unfinished, like a supertall on hold. matt_12 February 18th, 2012, 05:21 PM I could perceive what you mean Malyan.. albeit its already a pretty good height for Rotterdam and in general. We'll see once its done ;) Jex7844 February 18th, 2012, 06:07 PM http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7194/6856982539_7fcecf5fe7_b.jpg I really am fond of this bridge, a pure beauty...Regarding that triple tower scheme, I'm sorry guys but I don't like it at all, way too bulky, it looks like a huge wall, imo it disfigures the vicinity. CitoyenNéerlandais February 18th, 2012, 07:44 PM I can’t give my opinion yet. This building isn’t even finished. But from what I now see I think it’s going to be great. I’m still positive.:) citysight February 21st, 2012, 09:13 PM i don't think it will be bulky..the design of de rotterdam actualy exist out of 3 towers combined to eachother with a hight of 151m ! stofzuiger February 21st, 2012, 10:34 PM i don't think it will be bulky..the design of de rotterdam actualy exist out of 3 towers combined to eachother with a hight of 151m ! It will look bulky from most perspectives. Only if you stand right in front of the building you will see the "6 blocks". I'm not saying bulky is bad btw, this building is gonna be awesome when finished. Oranje Strijder February 22nd, 2012, 11:27 AM It's bulky compared to the surrounding towers, but not too bulky in general. I think when it will be finished a lot of people will turn around and agree with this. citysight February 25th, 2012, 05:27 PM actually you have to look at the scalemodel of the building closely to know for sure ,or a render ofcourse ! Eric Offereins February 26th, 2012, 11:52 PM taken on feb 26th: http://i39.tinypic.com/t82c0h.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/ixqx39.jpg cladding in detail: http://i39.tinypic.com/2vv97c0.jpg Phill February 27th, 2012, 08:39 PM cladding in detail: http://i39.tinypic.com/2vv97c0.jpg looks like some kind of "old school cladding family"... in spite of that the project itself is not very attractive, it would be quite fine addition to the skyline. I just hope, that it would be soon hidden by other higher and nicer skyscrapers... ... but still ... I used to say, that every skyscraper = good skyscraper :-) higher = better Eric Offereins February 27th, 2012, 10:53 PM I really am fond of this bridge, a pure beauty...Regarding that triple tower scheme, I'm sorry guys but I don't like it at all, way too bulky, it looks like a huge wall, imo it disfigures the vicinity. I think we need more (bulky) towers here because the density is not big enough to create a dense skyline here. At the moment, the gaps between the towers are too big. singoone February 28th, 2012, 10:07 AM The cladding in detail doesn´t look good :ohno: Phill is right, it looks kinda old school. I think Rotterdam deserves better. :dunno: But the tower´s itself are good to fill the gap that´s true. ;) citysight February 28th, 2012, 10:36 PM ^^I don't agree at all..i was last sunday near the buildingsite and it looked great ! when the sun is reflecting on the cladding it's different:) singoone February 28th, 2012, 10:43 PM Yes, maybe just a light composition makes the cladding look bad on the pic above. :dunno: I hope so. :) Kimiwind1184 February 29th, 2012, 03:11 PM I find the cladding not as bad as some assume here, and the tower itself is nice. Just wait when it will be completed and everyone here will change their opinions. tim1807 March 2nd, 2012, 04:47 PM http://i39.tinypic.com/15q3qkm.jpg Eric Offereins March 2nd, 2012, 10:18 PM Yes, maybe just a light composition makes the cladding look bad on the pic above. :dunno: I hope so. :) In addition to that, there is also the reflection of another (rather dull white) tower in the glass. citysight March 3rd, 2012, 06:42 PM http://i39.tinypic.com/15q3qkm.jpg interresting drawing of the progress of the building ! at fooor 26/27 the towerwill shift in different directions:) Godius March 4th, 2012, 11:30 PM It will look like that: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g436/kimiwind1184/397009_310623842304488_100000706240571_1015735_1514310227_n.jpg I did take this photo when I visited the construction site last year. Rotterdam needs a building like this. Without a massive tower like De Rotterdam the skyline is not that exciting to look at. Maybe it can compete with the Warsaw skyline after De Rotterdam is finished. citysight March 5th, 2012, 08:54 PM I agree, Rotterdam has lots of narrow buildings and becourse of that they look higher than they actually are ! More massive towers are welcome here:) Marin March 9th, 2012, 10:18 AM 08.03: 01. http://207.44.228.231/marin/20120308006[1].jpg 02. http://207.44.228.231/marin/20120308005.jpg |
