I'm afraid this tower looks pretty tacky to me. Somehow it looks pretty meaningless. This Arabian style of designing is boring me. The pipe facade isn't the best solution for this tower. Oil -Sheikh after another is building their own tower, but for what exactly? Will they set their office there and perhaps sell some floors to a hotel? I guess it's just something every billionaire have to do there to show off.

It may sound like I don't like Dubai and it's infrastucture, but that's not right. I sure do, but these kinds of towers has nothing new to add. It just isn't enough to pack the city full of these high skyscrapers, unless there's something else too. As I've read from the newspaper, in summer time it's too hot to be outside! I've never been to Dubai, and this is all speculation, but what's the point of having nothing but buildings and roads, if there's nothing where u hang out?

They had more than better change the name, it's way too long and impossible to remember :)

I will answer to your concerns :P. For what is it getting built? Its a combination of need for office space and governmentally fueled projects to further raise the demand for residential and commercial space in Dubai.

The name will probably be changed once its finished or earlier, to something more decorous and meaningful. Its the owners name as of now.

Great, the facade has started.

That little test piece has been there for months. But with the railing and the guard up, they should be starting the real cladding imminently. :)

Edit: I didn't notice the two new pieces

The record breaking, largest, concrete pour in the UAE, 22000 m³, has been successfully completed by Unibeton Ready Mix, the leading concrete supplier for many of the regions landmark projects including Palm Island Jumeirah, the new Garhoud Bridge and RTA road interchange projects.

The milestone concrete pour - which is double the size of any previous pour in the region and the equivalent of filing 9 Olympic sized swimming pools - laid the basement of Al Attar Sky Spiral, a 49 level, residential tower in
Al Sofouh, Dubai, commissioned by Mr. Ahamed Abd Al Rahim Al Attar, founder of the Al Attar Group and managed under the chairmanship of Mr. Mana Al Attar.

Demanding the highest levels of technical and logistical expertise the mammoth 35 hour pour, finished Saturday, 7 September, 2007 and leveraged the combined efforts of Unibeton's nine, strategically located concrete batching plants - with a nominal capacity to generate up to 1000 m³ of concrete per hour - more than 150 transit mixers and 15 mobile and 6 standby pumps.

This telephoto view on Rose Rotana Tower is stunning .
To the right of this needle, it almost appears, as if both Al Attar Towers, that are u/c on Sheikh Zayed Road, were neighbours. And one can see, that Ahmed Abdul Rahim's tower is still ahead of Khalid's by about 30 meters, but both of them are beginning to have some impact in the skyline.

Level 42 is taller than the others... I reckon this belongs to the 2nd mechanical floors, so nothing should hold AARAAT from rising straight and quickly to the highest floor at around 250 meters :).

According to the signboard (http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/9418/alattar17pz.jpg), the floor design should change now, but I see no big difference at lev43-45 so far, especially as the square central column keeps going on. On the rendering, this suddenly appears to be round, the facade steps back and the x-bracings begin. So I wonder if there are once more some design updates...

Btw. two ground floors don't count in the numbering here, so this Al Attar Tower has 48 floors by now, with 28 more to come, I think.

And this one's also by Old Town Resident. He put it in the Burj Dubai thread, but,
although big, it's worth to be shown here, too:
http://i32.************/2jbuwk8.jpg
The BD, nicely sticking out from behind, is not the main task here, nor is it the Index, nor Al Attar Tower:
it's about the clouds, hovering over Dubai and coming from the explosion fire accident (http://www.xpress4me.com/news/uae/dubai/20006532.html) today...
just in case some of you haven't heart about it and wonder about the darkness in the two recent pics.

But nice to see Ahmed Abdul Rahim Al Attar Tower growing steadily...
now the tower can compare to 21st Century Tower as one "shoulder" of Rose Tower.

I agree that it's about time for the cladding... but if this will happen like at Burj Dubai, this won't be the deal:
once started, it'll catch up in a few months. And the area to be cladded is much smaller here,
on a shape that's square and easy. :)

If this render is correct (and it appears to be), then the tower will be bigger than 301m for definite. From the latest pictures it seems they have built 8 of those 2 floors sections shown in the renders. This means they have 6 more to go and also the mechanical floor on top.
301m is probably the roof height.

Surprise, surprise! But this really could be true.
If the roof was at 260m, like Culwulla had assumed on February 5th, the tower should only stand little higher than 200m now, but in fact it looks almost 240m tall. Considering a floor height of 4.0m (instead of 3.4m), the roof of the highest occupied floor should be at 288m plus about 13m for the tech levels - that would just be 301m! Let's give the spire further 55m, and the AAB Al Attar Tower will have 356m in total, even more than Emirates Office Tower. :eat:

Although the tower looks slightly smaller than 240m from the recent pics to me, one can say, that this younger brother of the Rose Tower won't remain a lesser one, but might grow up to the same stunning level on SZR.

I have also been wondering about the accuracy of the 301 meters figure. Considering how tall it stands compared to Rose Rotane and the number of floors yet to be build, malec assertions should be correct.

It has to be said though, that the 301 meter figure was for the first design, which was altered.

WELL IVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS DIAGRAM FOR A WHILE NOW. I THINKING IM CLOSE. YES I ALSO BELEIVE THIS TOWER HAS A 301M ROOF HEIGHT. AVERAGE FLOOR= 4M
CURRENT HEIGHT IS APPROX 236M.(oh crap caps lock)
they have labled floors without 2 grd levels. so its 2 floors higehr then indicated.
ive estimated tower width at 30m like RoseR. with 15m street gaps. other towers 35m wide.
ive estimated spire maybe 345m?
what you reckon?

It will work well with the tower nearby though (also al attar?), suits Dubai, altough some esthetic continuity is needed.

Truth be told it would look awful in most cities, but not in Dubai, Dubai exotic, spectacular, and it will look rather fresh there.

I don't think there is any more floor left. The reports were that the last regular floor would be up to 272 meters, and the top of the formwork is already slightly higher then the tip of the spire of the nearby 269 meters tall 21st Century Tower.

I think the regular floors are done.

As to Al Attar Tower, I see no new floors compared to the July 29, but the hanging scaffolding is gone now. So they should be building the top floor now, I guess. Not sure if this is 301m though or some meters less... the Rose Tower ball at 318m still appears much taller than its neighbour.

CULWULLA

^if its up to main roof, its 301m. the top section will start soon which will take height to 342m.

AltinD
September 9th, 2008, 12:38 AM
^^ Actually to me, compared with the nearby 21st Century Tower (269m), it seams like the structure is no more then 280 - 285 meters.

Thought the same !!

Than 301 meters should be the real height and not 342 m !!

God, I hate this speculation..... :bash:

The crown and the spire might be 60 meters tall. That can make this tower 340 meters. :D

Why are the construction firms always so dummy and hold the height back !!!

Nice shot, thanks!
But not much visible improvement during the last 6 weeks... I wonder if it's a coincedence that Khalid Al Attar Tower along the road is actually "on the slow side", too...:sly:

Slender, but square (in more than one meaning) - that's how both towers appear to me right now. A remarkable thing about Al Attar Tower is how deep the central walls stand back on each side behind the concrete grid. On the pic from Sep 6th, it looks as if in the upper part there's only some floorspace near the four edges.

Anyway, I'd have prefered the curved lines from the renders, and I hope they'll crown AAT and promote it to a supertall, as planned... although a mainly gold-brown cuboid doesn't need a special roof or spire. But 342m sound much better than, let's say, 290 m...

You can't see from the above picture, but the following picture shows that they have already started on the roof structure. Picture taken Oct 18; much thanks to DennisS:

if its topped out with out the triangle part, then I think they are preparing the material for that triangle.
but I still suggest that couple of floors still pending!

is there a new render of the building?this skyscraper is a mistery, we dont know how tall is it exactly and the design of the top. the known render is very different as it is coming.

AltinD
November 10th, 2008, 02:42 PM
It seams to be different but the render on the project board is still the same old one.

PurePaki
November 10th, 2008, 07:01 PM
the tower is super skinny

Locke
November 18th, 2008, 06:15 PM
That's a skinny one, straight 342 slab sides that really extenuate the height of it. Let hope the design changes cos its totally out of context with the rest of the buildings in the immediate vicinity.

AltinD
November 18th, 2008, 10:12 PM
^^ 342 is on top of the spire which will be on top of the roof feature, yet to be build. The slab height is around 270 - 280 meters.

AltinD
November 18th, 2008, 10:13 PM

i think ive worked out roof is about 280m
the pryramidal top will lucky to be 20m, thus 300m. + the spire which looks 20m in render. but you can easily add a 40m spire to reach 342m.
