Momo1435 October 4th, 2010, 08:05 PM The schedule for the last 3 months of the year was put up on the information boards around the Sky Tree today. And it gives all the information that we need to know about the start of the 2nd observation pod and the spire. http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/6640/10100400483.jpg http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/4566/1010040055.jpg # Steel tower frame. It will reach it's highest point of 495m this month, it will be structurally complete at the end of the month. # 2nd Observation Pod Work on the 2nd pod will start at the end of this month, it will continue throughout November to be structurally finished in the 1st weeks of December. # Spire The spire is U/C inside the core right now, it will be jacked up towards the top. It will surpass the 495m roof of the tower half December after the 2nd pod is finished. # Height at the end of the year. This is something that isn't mentioned, this means that we don't know how fast the spire will grow. The only thing we know is that the in the original planning it should be 634m in the spring of 2011. ~~~~~~~~ Let's add some pictures from the official blog from Obayashi, the main contractor of the Sky Tree. http://blog.skytree-obayashi.com/ http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/1935/20100926w.jpg http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/5337/20100926a.jpg working on the top http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/5457/100913shaft01.jpg http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/2285/100913shaft03.jpg putting the spire together at the bottom. http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/1860/100916gain01.jpg http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/2585/100916gain03.jpg drew.magoo October 5th, 2010, 12:41 AM Thanks Momo! Since it's (officially) 17 meters left to the top of the structure, then I would guess on 2 levels of segments to be added until it's topped out. Can't wait for it :) Scrapernab2 October 5th, 2010, 09:26 PM 2 levels, then they add two small cranes to the roof. Then the two extremely tall tower cranes go down to make room for pod 2 construction. The question is, can they start jacking the spire at the same time the two small cranes are in operation at the roof? I say no. IrishMan2010 October 6th, 2010, 01:21 AM Wow, what a tower! (http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9IM4FT01&show_article=1) TOKYO, Oct. 6 (AP) - (Kyodo)—The Tokyo Sky Tree tower, the tallest building in Japan which is under construction in central Tokyo, will be illuminated for about three hours on the night of Oct. 13, the first and the only light-up event before its scheduled completion in the spring of 2012. The light up of the new communications tower in Tokyo's Sumida Ward, which is 478 meters high as of Saturday, will be held from around 6:30 p.m. The event is designed to test the performance of 50 light-emitting diode bulbs to be installed at the ground, 160-meter and 335-meter levels of the tower. The bulbs are made by Panasonic Electric Works Co. The tower will be lit up in two colors -- light blue to depict the "Edo spirit" and purple to symbolize "miyabi," one of the traditional Japanese aesthetic ideals. After the tower is completed, it will be illuminated in each color every other day using 2,000 LED bulbs. "I want to see the illuminated tower," said Masao Kobayashi, a 68- year-old who manages a stamp company near the tower. "It will be a different night view from before. I think our town will be even more attractive." Tower operator Tobu Tower Sky Tree Co. said, "The illumination is not intended to be viewed but given that visitors are expected on the day, we want to make sure we take sufficient precautions for their safety." The illumination will be postponed to the following day in case of bad weather. The Tokyo Sky Tree, set to be the world's tallest stand-alone communications tower at 634 meters when completed, will be used mainly for terrestrial digital broadcasting. It surpassed Tokyo Tower, a 333- meter communications tower in Minato Ward, as Japan's tallest building in March. south October 7th, 2010, 04:17 PM ^^ oh, cool -- if I can get to the east side that night I'll have to check it out! Jim856796 October 10th, 2010, 05:04 AM From Wikipedia: Tokyo's current broadcasting tower, Tokyo Tower, is, at 333 meters, no longer tall enough to give complete digital terrestrial television broadcasting coverage as it is surrounded by many high-rise buildings. The Tokyo Sky Tree is going to have a highrise building located next to it and very small lowrise buildings will be surrounding the Sky Tree to the north, west, and south. geysers38 October 10th, 2010, 12:36 PM :cheers:It would make a suitable ground station for the japanese proposed space elevator ( wish they would go on whith that one...):) Momo1435 October 10th, 2010, 07:34 PM 10/10/10 blog round-up http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/452/tst201010101.jpg http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/743/tst201010105.jpg runfaster.blog116.fc2.com/ http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/3640/o0800120010793679777.jpg In the afternoon the weather cleared up. http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/829/o0800120010793679789.jpg ameblo.jp/kiyurino-jp/ And the sun made the people come out to watch the Sky Tree. http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/6495/o0800060010793481141.jpg http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/3880/o0800106710793481140.jpg http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/6650/o0800106710793481142.jpg http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/7617/o0800139710793482013.jpg http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/4824/o0800168710793482012.jpg ameblo.jp/tokyo-skytree-blog/ http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/8926/101010a01.jpg http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/8451/101010a02.jpg http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/2988/101010a03.jpg http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/1310/101010a04.jpg 512colors.blog120.fc2.com/ ukiyo October 10th, 2010, 07:40 PM 10/10/10 blog round-up http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/4824/o0800168710793482012.jpg ameblo.jp/tokyo-skytree-blog/ Wow this is my favorite picture of Sky Tree so far. mysteek_1976 October 10th, 2010, 10:38 PM the progress on this is amazing!!!!!! onthebund October 11th, 2010, 06:14 AM 东京是个美丽的地方。嘻嘻,最近狂看日剧,日剧真好看。内容深刻发人深省。边看日剧边欣赏剧中东京美丽的景色。 Momo1435 October 11th, 2010, 06:44 AM 10/11 http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/9284/201010111.jpg http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/1725/201010112.jpg http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/5521/201010113.jpg tokyo-sky-tree.seesaa.net/ http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/9024/o0800106710794782071.jpg http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/1010/o0800106710794782072.jpg http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/1706/o0800106710794782081.jpg ameblo.jp/nzmst/ ukiyo October 11th, 2010, 06:45 AM 东京是个美丽的地方。嘻嘻,最近狂看日剧,日剧真好看。内容深刻发人深省。边看日剧边欣赏剧中东京美丽的景色。 English? Momo1435 October 19th, 2010, 12:58 PM In theory it could be lifted in 1 day, but the way they are going to do it will take more time. It's all being explained here: http://www.obayashi.co.jp/news/skytreedetail10_20100724_1 Since it's all in Japanese I will give a quick explanation in English how the spire is constructed. Fase 1 This was the fase where the spire was put together inside of the core, the spire got lifted from the top to make room to attach new parts at the bottom. This way they could put it together on the ground level with out having to lift all new parts in from the top of the core. This fase is completed. http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/5082/skytreedetail1004.jpg Fase 2 The are currently in fase 2 of the construction of the spire, the spire is completed inside of the core. The points where the spire is lifted are replaced from the top of the spire to the bottom of the spire in order to make it possible to lift it up above the height of the steel tower. http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/7112/skytreedetail1005.jpg Fase 3 The next fase can only start when tower body is finished since the spire will be lifted from the top of the tower body. Then the spire will only be lifted inside of the core up to a point where the top of the spire just stick out a little bit on the top. http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/6540/skytreedetail1006.jpg Fase 4 They won't pull it up to 634m at once since it's still a bare spire, all the antenna's and the other communication equipment will be installed onto the spire as it comes out of the core. http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/8904/skytreedetail1007.jpg This will mean that the spire will grow in steps, the speed will depend on how fast the equipment will be installed. Remember that it's expensive equipment, it's all being done at 500m in the air and they basically got a year to do it. They start half December with this fase and don't expect it to be T/O well into the new year. The cranes (or at least one of the two) will stay at the current height until the spire is completely finished. They won't be lowered down for the construction of the 2nd pod. As the spires grows out the core they will also start with the concrete reinforcement of the core. They will use a slip-form to construct it all the way to the top. This concrete core inside the core will give the tower more stability during typhoons and earthquakes. More info on the construction of the core (in Japanese): http://www.skytree-obayashi.com/technique/basic/detail05/const01.html daelight October 19th, 2010, 01:06 PM Yes, almost there! It is so precarious looking with those 2 cranes being so high. The rise of the antenna will be done in a controlled manner - 1 day might be a little too quick? Scrapernab2 October 19th, 2010, 01:56 PM The only question is that statement about one of the two cranes staying in place while the second pod is constructed. It looks far enough out from pod #2, but can it reach all the way over to the other side? Momo1435 October 19th, 2010, 03:21 PM ^^ I'm looking forward to it. The only question is that statement about one of the two cranes staying in place while the second pod is constructed. It looks far enough out from pod #2, but can it reach all the way over to the other side? I think you misunderstood me, they will use 2 cranes for the construction of the 2nd pod. After the 2nd pod is structurally finished they will start with lifting up the spire, then they might only use 1 crane to attach the broadcasting equipment to the spire as it goes up. For the last level they already lifted only 1 of the 2 cranes and attached it to the tower in such a way that it can't climb or be lowered easily. If they won't raise the other crane later this week it's pretty certain that it will only be used for the 2nd pod from now on. http://img541.imageshack.us/img541/8517/101019a01.jpg http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/3858/101019a02.jpg 512colors.blog120.fc2.com/ daelight October 19th, 2010, 03:23 PM wow, nearly 500m free standing structure. dont get that often. only 3 skyscrapers are higher atm, burjkalifa, mecca hotel & taipei101. ill update diagram tomoz It's funny, one of the first pictures of the Sky Tree I saw on flickr, about a year ago, was your diagram and here you are posting on this forum! Having a week off that you have time now for them all? But now about this post you can't count TST in this list of Burj, Abraj and T101. No, Oshiage station is located almost right under the Sky Tree, this is Kanegafuchi Station on the Tobu Isesaki Line about 3km north of the Sky Tree. The train is a Tokyu 5000 series, on one of the few through trains from the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line via the Hanzomon Line that runs beyond Oshiage station to Saitama. The Chimney is from the Sumida Incineration Plant. And the tower is now like tommyzion already posted 497 meter and not the 495 meter that everybody thought it was. Or will the outer part of the second pod be constructed around the tower cranes somehow since they could go through the grid structure of the tower? Does anyone know? It should fit, it's not as wide as the 1st one and the cranes are standing further from the tower then it appears in most pictures. If they would construct the pod around the tower cranes it would become virtually impossible to dissemble them when the tower is finished. It could be done with a smaller on the top of the 2nd pod, but I don't think that it will be able to take down all the crane parts between the 1st and 2nd pod. It's also very impractical since the cranes will be needed on the top for the spire long after the 2nd pod is finished. But the spire will already go up little bit this month, it should be 509m tall at the end of the month. http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/3452/101101a10.jpg And now some blue sky pictures. http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/9878/101101a01.jpg http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/3918/101101a02.jpg http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/6623/101101a03.jpg http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/3101/101101a04.jpg http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/4963/101101a07.jpg http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/4664/101101a09.jpg http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/3390/101101a11.jpg 512colors.blog120.fc2.com/ http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/3527/img621864176156660.jpg http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/2378/img621864176156661.jpg http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/2017/img621864176156662.jpg http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/5629/img621864176156663.jpg Compare this with the model in the Tobu World Square theme park http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/6742/img621864176156666.jpg blogs.yahoo.co.jp/masatoshi0102 MontanaGuy November 1st, 2010, 09:31 PM I noticed on this last group of photos that there's still quite a bit of room between the cranes and the second observation deck so I'm assuming that they'll stay in place until it's completed (please correct me if I'm wrong). On earlier photos it appeared as though the cranes were practically touching the second deck but it must have just been the angle that the photo was taken from. I can't wait to see the spire start rising. sdiegub November 2nd, 2010, 01:31 AM Carissimo, "poesia" č un concetto soggettivo. Si o no? Hai vissuto un'emozione in meno. ciao japanese001 November 2nd, 2010, 04:10 AM Onbashira (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onbashira) comet the cat November 2nd, 2010, 11:46 AM nice, real nice. RaphiHK November 3rd, 2010, 01:33 PM I think that this kind of tower is cheaper and easier to construct than a classic building, am I right ? 2co2co November 3rd, 2010, 01:40 PM To start with, Tokyo Sky Tree is a budget tower  Scrapernab2 November 3rd, 2010, 02:42 PM I think that this kind of tower is cheaper and easier to construct than a classic building, am I right ? Yes, much less expensive. The speed of construction, the lack of floors, bathrooms, lights, walls....90% of this type of tower is empty space. That doesn't make it any less awesome! World8115 November 3rd, 2010, 03:25 PM Tokyo should definitely get a supertall building. whatever happened to Nishi-shinjuku 3-chome Office Tower. Hopefully, after the construction of this tower or by early 2011 there should be some good projects. Momo1435 November 3rd, 2010, 07:52 PM ^^ Nishi-shinjuku 3-chome was canceled because of the lack of it's own railway station, the railway company that owns the line that runs next to the site didn't want to open a new station especially for this project. And that was needed to get permission for the construction. But at last day of this month the new tallest building for Tokyo will go U/C, the 255m high "Loop Line 2 - Zone III" building. (still waiting for a better name, although this is already much better then the full project name). The 1st pod on the other hand is quickly getting it's skin. http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/2928/img565195177703690.jpg http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/6438/img565195177703691.jpg http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/2791/img565195177703692.jpg blogs.yahoo.co.jp/masatoshi0102/ http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/2792/101111a01.jpg http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/1111/101111a04.jpg http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/7227/101111a05.jpg http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/2355/101111a06.jpg 512colors.blog120.fc2.com/ Patrick Highrise November 11th, 2010, 11:19 PM fantastic pictures all here above!! :okay: I still had a few from my trip early october (9 till 15tt oktober), so mine are a bit older! :) Sorry for that! :) 1. http://www.skyscrapers.nl/tokyo2010/Tokyo_002.jpg 2. http://www.skyscrapers.nl/tokyo2010/Tokyo_010.jpg 3. http://www.skyscrapers.nl/tokyo2010/Tokyo_013.jpg 4. http://www.skyscrapers.nl/tokyo2010/Tokyo_014.jpg 5. http://www.skyscrapers.nl/tokyo2010/Tokyo_016.jpg 6. http://www.skyscrapers.nl/tokyo2010/Tokyo_020.jpg 7. http://www.skyscrapers.nl/tokyo2010/Tokyo_079.jpg 8. http://www.skyscrapers.nl/tokyo2010/Tokyo_080.jpg 9. http://www.skyscrapers.nl/tokyo2010/Tokyo_089.jpg 10. http://www.skyscrapers.nl/tokyo2010/Tokyo_098.jpg 11. http://www.skyscrapers.nl/tokyo2010/Tokyo_131.jpg 12. http://www.skyscrapers.nl/tokyo2010/Tokyo_139.jpg 13. http://www.skyscrapers.nl/tokyo2010/Tokyo_140.jpg 14. http://www.skyscrapers.nl/tokyo2010/Tokyo_217.jpg What a great and impressive tower I say!, huge building site in all also! :) ukiyo November 12th, 2010, 11:12 PM 11/11 http://tokyo-sky-tree.up.seesaa.net/image/20101112_1.JPG http://tokyo-sky-tree.up.seesaa.net/image/20101112_2.JPG http://tokyo-sky-tree.seesaa.net/ skyperu34 November 13th, 2010, 04:04 AM Nice staff, thanks for sharing ! It looks cheap and too 70's. I like the tower itself but they could come up with shining blue glass cladding to make it stand out. Tokyo deserves better than this. No, I think there's some guy in Ohio who doesn't like it either but the rest of us all like it.:) Seriously though, I guess it's just a matter of personal taste. I like everything about the Sky Tree and I've been watching this thread more than any other. The skill to design and construct something this complex is a tribute to Japanese know how. |
