It seems they are progressing very well, and the liquidity in the chinese financial industry is unharmed, Shenzhen is expected to sustain a economic growth of about 10% in 2009. This may look high but is down from 15% two years ago amid financial crisis.

I'm not a big fan of this building as it will take over my beloved Diwang building in height as the new #1 in Shenzhen, although its not a totally bad design. Here's a photo I took a few months ago. Been meaning to get over there and take some more shots. It's really going up quickly now...

here's a bunch of pictures of the last remaining nailhouse at the site of the kingkey plaza. i didnt really know what was going on, but i knew it must be a nailhouse when i saw it. later reports in the news confirmed this. i think the owners got a ton of cash for the resettlement. these were all taken in spring 2007.

Does the rising structure belong to the main tower?

The structure with 2 red crane is the main tower. These red cranes are M900D, usually used for building 300+ skyscrapers, SWFC used two M900D, the West Tower used three M900D.

Wherever you see these giant M900D cranes, there is a very high chance a supertall is under construction there.

Now this project is a real monster, pretty much a 10 story high entire superblock with towers jutting out. Are the massive steel beams part of the main tower? They seriously look gigantic :D. (just saw that it was answered already, sorry)

Very nice. This photo looks west and covers pretty much all the key parts of the city, including Lo Wu and Futian. You can see the Deep Bay Link bridge with Hong Kong over the water and even the port at the Pearl River estuary.

Head and shoulders above the rest- By design or height? It isn't the tallest building to be built in China. Pingan IFC is 39ft. taller than the Shanghai Tower. I agree that the Shanghai Tower has a better design but just by height Pingan IFC is taller.

Being that any non PRC citizen has to register where they are staying with the government (unless it is at a hotel) I can see why so many of the Police are paper pushers. Shenzhen does have a higher crime rate than most cities in China tho.

It is a major financial centre. China's largest financial institution, Ping An, is based in Shenzhen. Two of China's six listed banks are based in Shenzhen. Forty per cent of China's mutual funds are managed from Shenzhen. Shenzhen Airlines is China's largest private airline. HQ and R&D of two of the world's top ten electronics companies, Hua Wei and ZTE are based in Shenzhen. One of China's two stock exchanges is in Shenzhen. I travelled to Shenzhen back in 2005. It was the only place I went to in China which 'felt' dangerous but in reality, China is a very safe place to travel. I had no problems at all. It may be something to do with it:

1) Being a port city
2) Being the richest city in Mainland China and hence having a high disparity in earnings
3) Having clueless tourists like me assume that everywhere is safe and getting their wallet nicked

Anyway, I had no problems in Shenzhen... the PSB are everywhere and as a foreigner I felt safe even though some areas felt a little shady.

^^ well Shenzhen rarely gets huge earth quakes, and it seems there using some type of tube structure. which from reading (Fazlur Khan's book) seems to deal with earthquakes efficiently

After seeing those pictures, I stand by my previous statement. This building looks to be 80% steel and core. Those offices will be horribly cramped.

Remember how big the Orange beams were? The area between the edge and the core is larger than it looks. U can see the workers and compare the size.

Stilll, the core does seem oversized. They'll prolly have some offices in the core.

The issue of the beams has been explained a few times along the thread already, and even so some forumers are derailing the thread raising this question once and again, and again. This is soft-trolling.

I will delete any new post going round and round over that thing since it has been clarified for several times already.

This is a great development. not only the tower but surrounding buildings are very nice too. It really add something to the city. i like it a lot.

anyway. I think there is some useful space inside core area too. There some large openings on sides of the core. it is not occupied only by elevators in my opinion.

This is one of the fastest rising buildings. im amazed by the progress

Its so large because inside it will carry all the wires, cooling systems, pipes etc, so in the end it will have a lot of space.

You haven't seen any modern skyscraper build, have you? just surf this web site a little bit.

most of the time, steel is painted in this simple anti rust paint.

This building is designed to withstand a nuke. That is the reason for huge columns. It will house PLAAF commanders.

China is still a developing country because (one aspect) there are too many people in China and per capita wise, China is still relatively poor at around 3000 - 4000 USD compared to Europe or North America (over $40,000 USD) per capita. But it is developing fast...fastest of any major economies. :)

Your right, I does seem kinda skinny...

But that might not be such a bad thing. Usually skinny buildings look even talller then they actually are. :)

I think this case it is surrounded by some of the tallest buildings on earth Like the shun hing plaza . So that effect won't be realized. Remember this is Shenzhen in China . You need at least 500 mt if you want your building to look tall.
