From this angle, it seems Manila's skyline is already comparable with Singapore's. I may be wrong since I haven't been to that country. But for those who know, how many floors is Singapore's tallest?

collectively speaking, Mega Manila may already have more skyscrapers than the Lion City. i could be wrong though.

Metro Manila's Financial Districts (Makati and Ortigas) are denser than Singapore's Raffles Place. But Skyscrapers are abound even outside the CBD (like areas on the fringes of Orchard road). Add to the fact that much of the housing there are high rise makes the high rise comparison in favor of Singapore. in suburbs you can see rows upon rows of high rise buildings. Its one of those places where a bungalow is a rarity (a luxury even) but a high rise apartment is common. I say, financial district wise, Metro Manila's is denser but overall density Singapore wins..

an example of a suburb there

Of course Singapore needs to go highrise because they have very limited land.

^^ Merriam-Webster disagrees... It could be mountains set against the sky... Or just the horizon will do. The word "urban" defines it as that of a city though.

Main Entry:sky·line
Pronunciation:\-ˌlīn\
Function:noun
Date:1824

1: the apparent juncture of earth and sky : horizon
2: an outline (as of buildings or a mountain range) against the background of the sky

^^On the brighter side, spaghettis will serve as mesh/safety nets for catching parachutists/sky divers in case of some landing accidents, instead of having them land directly on the road.

That is actually, why despite we have existing ordinances about spaghetti wires, they still exist and unarranged.

Am so thankful to our government officials for making those ordinances useless and null.

I think the tallest building there is a 3-story building on Barangay Cangatba with decrepit office units above and a popular sari sari store on the ground floor. And oh I forgot, the bell tower of Porac Church is probably even taller. I hope I made my point. Peace all.

Makes sense pre. I was expecting a little bit more "major major" skylines kasi eh since the universally-accepted depiction of an urban skyline is this:

The different SSC banners we see daily would show as the diversity of urbanism. It's not always skyscrapers.

This view of Cologne forms a skyline...

http://www.mutanteggplant.com/agog/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/cologne.jpg

So does this view of Istanbul...

http://www.universes-in-universe.de/car/istanbul/ort/img/istanbul-03-b.jpg

Regarding the "major" issue, I believe it's vague at the moment unless perhaps the mods could agree on which Philippine cities are major. Or another interpretation could be that the major skylines are exclusive to those of Manila and Cebu. If it's only Manila and Cebu then why not simply rename the thread as "The Skylines of Manila and Cebu"?

As for Porac, it wouldn't make my list too.

It ranges from 150 to 220 meters, depending on where it is. The mouth of the river is the river wharf (Muelle Loney) itself. However, from the Provincial Capitol all the way inland, it is not navigable by ships. Also, the locals consider it as an "arm of the sea" since water here is brackish (mixed sea and fresh water).

Bernie, you should post some of those Iloilo pics of the view from the sea. I like the developments in Smallville but the view of the Aduana and the adjacent medium and low rise structures at the port is more definitive of Iloilo.

if you don't mind sir @randy. i'll provide your post with translation. okidoks? :D

first quote: CBP is really small, its just a 50 hec property. but its alright because not all modern developments and buildings are concentrated in CBP cause there are also other parts of the city being developed.

second quote: if you look at the aerial view, its very easy to fill up the CBP. hope it gets filled-up faster! hehehe

IMO, Fuente Osmeña Circle is the most beautiful rotonda in the Philippines! I find Quezon Memorial Circle quite big though coz when your driving towards it, it seems like your not in circle coz its circumference is quite big you can't barely notice it whereas to Fuente Circle, you could actually see the place as a circle because you could see shops and establishments circling around it and its not that big to go unnoticed. :okay:

ok maganda din naman ang Quezon Memorial Circle but what i mean is the circle itself ringed with shops and different business establishments, etc. I consider QMC as more of a park more than anything else kasi malawak sya at pwede kang mamasyal. kasi nung pumunta ako, dami kasing puno, di mo makikita ang kabilang banda at di mo rin alam kung yung circle na pala ang dinadaanan mo. :)

i meant the circle not the park. ;)

Well, according to the tour guide from Intramuros Administration, Manila did have a beach. The mansions of Malate, Paranaque and Las Pinas along the coastal road are a testament to this. Baclaran in Pasay was a popular beach get-away until the 70s. Sadly, the beach is gone and nobody in his right frame of mind would swim in those waters. Better head to nearby Batangas or Bataan.

but dont you worry ormoc, cebu looks at the mistakes of bigger cities in the country and as much as possible do everything not to commit the same mistakes. kaya nga BRT ang sikat sa cebu instead of LRT, and kaya nga nagka tunnel sa srp instead of a flyover crossing plaza independencia, kasi there are lessons learned from what we see in othe cities.

i think air pollution sa CEBU is much safer than manila because of the air current and the body of water.

kung naay smog nga nakit an. possible siya but dili siya maghover above the metro kay kusog ang air current and i absorb ang carbon contents in the air by the sea.

well obviously, mas daghan og kahoy. less air pollution.

let's all go back sa topic about major skylines and not pollution. :D
