Sino yon?
In fairness, Cebu's skyline has been growing rapidly in the past few years. That's good to know. Now, after Makati, Mandaluyong and Cebu, other cities will be next. Special mention: Davao, Bacolod, CDO and Taguig

I believe Taguig esp Bonifacio Global City is already at par with Makati and Ortigas. Followed by Manila, QC, Mandaluyong, Alabang, Cebu, then the rest.

tj_brewed May 8th, 2011, 09:02 AM ^^ I personally think it will take few years pa as most part of BGC is u/c. :) And not only that, Im very much excited with the plan to connect Bonifacio Global City and Mc Kinley Hill.
Here's the link for more info: Manila's new super city (http://ph.news.yahoo.com/manilas-super-city-20110324-102012-412.html)
A new super-city is being developed through the integration of the 240 hectare Bonifacio Global City, the 50 hectare McKinley Hill Complex, the 25 hectare Newport City and the still undeveloped 120 hectare Bonifacio South District (present site of JUSMAG). Adding even more scale is the 123 hectare Makati CBD which will be linked to The Fort via Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). Altogether, the entire area will have a land mass comparable in size to the Central district in Hongkong . It is envisioned be the new face of Metro Manila.
I asked Al what his vision was for the emerging super-city. Al proudly declared that it was the BCDA's mission to develop it into a true world-city, one that could rival Singapore. Fighting words from the business mogul, now public servant. I sensed the determination, the grit and the boldness in his tone and I liked what I heard.
To many, a lofty statement like this could easily be dismissed as just another sound bite. But no one can deny that The Fort is shaping up quite well. From its inception, over US$5 Billion in investments have been poured into it with more coming in at an accelerated rate. True, its level of development is decades away from Singapore, but its initial steps are certainly towards the right direction.
I appreciate the fact that the BCDA continues to invest heavily on its infrastructure even before it needs it. Everything to do with electricity, water and telecommunications have been pre-installed underground with enough capacity to support its future expansion. To us, that means no rain-induced brownouts, no street excavations and no wires dangling from overhead.
slerz May 8th, 2011, 09:23 AM ^^yup, malapit lang. I like Mckinley and New Port City type of development. Very grand IMO.

Unless someone builds a gleaming skyscraper in the midst of the chocolate hills or on top of the Banaue rice terraces, you're mostly likely never to see those places being used as banners here on SSC.

Probably the most ambitious people in Cebu are the local developers.
I love Cebu's skyline which will in time be comparable to the cities in the capital BUT still filled with greens in between, mountains or sea as the backdrop.
ormocanon May 11th, 2011, 10:15 AM bakit wala nag-post ng Binondo/Divisoria SKyline? it is as good as KL on the street level and their skyline is comparable to the BGC and Makati Skyline...its huge probably 100x bigger than the ambitous visayan provincial skyline

The first picture is nice, Cebu City is still idyllic even with the presence of high rise buildings!
Waldenstrom May 12th, 2011, 02:56 AM You should know that our neighboring countries' secondary cities/urban centers are rising in terms of skyline: Surabaya, Pattaya/Chiang Mai, etc. And I'm glad that Cebu is not really lagging behind.
We should all be supportive and be happy for other Phil. cities.
gud2ya May 12th, 2011, 03:09 AM slowly but surely, kung anong meron sa MM, nagkakaroon na rin ang vismin. nagtaasan na mga gusali, the malls are getting bigger and more beautiful over in the south, and brands are going national na.
the success of vismin cities is also the success of the country and the capital. wouldn't it be nice to decongest MM because wealth and opportunities are spread to the provinces na?
i really see no reason for metro manilenos to be insecure with the catching up of the southern cities. dapat pa ng every pinoy should support and hope that the skylines and progress of makati or bgc would be replicated all over the major cities in the country.

i agree...philippines is now moving forward to becoming a second world country and probably on the next more years, first world country..:okay:
kiretoce May 12th, 2011, 03:33 AM OT: The "Three Worlds Theory" is now a long obsolete concept. It segregated the world into a hierarchy based on their geographical/political/economical inclinations.
1st World - Countries that were democratic with capitalistic economies, led by superpower the United States.
2nd World - Countries that were under communism, and within the sphere of influence by the former Soviet Union.
3rd World - Comprised of neutral and non-aligned nations.
After the end of the Cold War, these terms fell into disuse and new terms were employed based more on economic factors, rather than geo-political.
Highly Developed Countries
Developed Countries
Developing Countries

I agree that the capital would solve a lot of its ills if the other provinces would be sustainably developed. We are the most centralized economy in ASEAN as of now I think. As for the provincials like me we should be proud of what we've achieved but we should use that pride in constructive ways. Chanting imperial Manila won't help us solve anything anymore. We just have to work our asses off and not depend on the government for everything. Although IMO federalization would be great, why dont we start with some things that are within our control.

habagatcentral1 May 12th, 2011, 04:35 PM Whoa at long last. Hehe. Sanaa tuloy tuloy na to ang world peace sa thread na to. It's high time we help each other up and cheer each other on.
^^^^^^ Undoubtedly true :)
^^:) i agree with these ...
I thought Indonesia is more centralized than the Philippines?
bakasaurus May 12th, 2011, 05:21 PM I thought Indonesia is more centralized than the Philippines?
Are they? Or do you mean a decade ago?
I don't necessarily have the figures (economics majors, anyone?), but I think they're ahead of us in terms of decentralization efforts when they had ambitious programs and accompanying changes in the politico-legal framework effective since ca 2000-2001. In our case, under the GMA years, we did start to decentralize at least in terms of infra projects (but only very slightly) at least relatively compared to previous admins, but our political and legal framework hasn't really changed at all.
In terms of skylines, I think the Philippines is more centralized..

Mahirap na bawiin ang difference ng exposure at white balance ng dalawang pics hehe. Makati and Taguig always impresses me with their 1st world-ish commanding look. But I've always preferred this skyline view of Manila with the old walled town and the City Hall. It evokes nostalgia, and shows our culture. This. Has. Soul.
Sarcasticity May 13th, 2011, 02:27 PM By definition, Philippines is still a developing nation, but it's nice to see that Philippines has much more to offer than MM. Cebu, Davao, Ilo Ilo, CDO, Bacolod, Baguio, Zamboanga etc are forming their own recognizable skylines (Cebu already has a very defined skyline) and making their own name.

OtAkAw May 13th, 2011, 07:00 PM ^^Imagine that view if World War 2 didn't become too cruel against Manila. It breaks my heart into pieces every time I think of all the heritage she has lost.
habagatcentral1 May 13th, 2011, 07:02 PM ^^ Its not just the WW2 that worked against the heritage buildings of Manila, but negligence coming from the local government and perhaps the society. Imagine, the most number of Spanish-colonial houses survived in San Nicolas after the war may have beaten Vigan or Taal. However, San Nicolas is a tragic mirror that Manila's heritage are confronting.
kenken94 May 13th, 2011, 07:04 PM ^^ And the poor attention the central government has given upon those classical government structures. I just can't get over with the colors. These structures has to be restored to their original colors which we're "cream" or "dirty white".

with regards naman to cebu urban projects i think (the ssc-cebu guys can correct me on this) there are not less than 20 u/c high-rises in cebu as of the moment and about 40 to 50 new highrises to rise within 5 years. that's massive activity if you ask me. at least man lng, it is comparable to what is happening at bgc in quantity. ofcourse, the taller, the more expensive projects are at bgc. :okay:

...bai, ang sagot ay nasa tanong mo rin...hehe...joke lang! FYI...Philippine cities/provinces have been featured in SSC for many occassions...for one, Cebu during the ASEAN Summit and other non-significant occassions...As far as i can recall, naka 3x or 4x na naging banner ang Cebu sa SSC since I joined in 2006 :okay:
slerz June 12th, 2011, 09:18 AM ^^before the ASEAN summit 3 times... during the ASEAN Simmit 2 times (Dec and January since the ASEAN summit was moved to January due to a typhoon)... after the ASEAN summit upto now, 3 or 4 times... Since 2005, 8 or 9 times na naging banner ang Cebu... pero wag mag alala, malapit na ulit yung Cebu banner :okay:

dahil yan sa zoom, nagmumukhang malapit yung buildings..kaya parang dense tingnan yung skyline.. at maganda din kumuha nang angle yung photographer...hehehe! :)
