I wish we had more roof-top/penthouse-type restaurants, bars and dining venues in the country, especially in Metro Manila. Makati has Top of the Citi atop the Citibank building along Paseo de Roxas.

the reason why Cebu City made the South Road Properties. but anyways, good thing development is not anymore concentrated in Cebu City itself because other cities like Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay and the towns of Minglanilla, Consolacion and Lilo-an are already starting to get a piece of the development pie. :okay:

actually Cebu has 2 major CBDs: Cebu Business Park and Asiatown IT Park. The others form a cluster which includes the Downtown (old CBD), the Uptown-Fuente and Banilad-Talamban. hopefully the rehabilitation of NRA and the development of SRP will create another CBDs in the future. :okay:

ofcorz im well aware bout today's ranking from the DOT, Cebu ranked 3rd place. but hey, Cebu was once on the 1st spot.. but atleast the province is consistent to be one of the top tourist destinations in the country.
But saying that Cebu is the Top"Province" interms of economy, who would argue with this? :lol::cheers:

anyways, OT na. nice skyline Cebu! so refreshing! and very resort-ish! it's hard to have a good economy and at the same time to be a top tourist destination while only getting a pinch of support from the national government. You nu! (Manny P. accent) :cheers:

actually, hindi naman talaga crowded ang Cebu if your a resident or have lived in Metro Manila for quite sometime. ang nagsasabi lang na crowded ang Cebu are those people who come from cities and provinces that are not as developed as Cebu's urban landscape. Cebu City is a big city but only a small percentage of the entire land area is considered 'urban' which means a vast area of the city is still considered 'rural' which includes the adjacent interior mountains and hinterlands of Central Cebu.

^^right... Cebu City is only very small to be considered as "crowded"... Cebu as a province is waaaay bigger than Cebu as an urban area. Everyone can still experience a rural environment even when you're at the center of the city :okay:

25% is urban

Yes maraming greenery and rural areas pa talaga ang Cebu City. Nice photos, last year na sa Cebu kami at Taiost Temple lang ang farthest mountain side na napuntahan namin, pupunta pa sana kami sa the Tops pero kulang na sa oras kaya sa sea shore na lang kami pumunta sa Lapu Lapu city before going to airport...

Nop, that was taken at the summit of Mt. Kan Irag, part of the Kan Irag nature Park in Ayala Heights in Cebu City. TOPS is nearer to the city, walang naka harang na bundok. The third pic is the same mountain where TOPS is located.

Since if we are to agree that "Major Skylines" would be only Metro Manila and Cebú, then we'll see only Metro Manila and Cebú here. If we remove "major," then I guess "infants and zygotes" may be qualified with posting with a more appropriate term.

Agree. I think Davao is soon to have a defined skyline in the future.

I worry about Dagupan. saturated ang soil. Not good na pagtayuan ng tall buildings. dapat pa nga up to around 3 stories lang sana ang maximum na height ng mga buildings, kahit pa mat footing o pile footing ang foundation nito, unless gawan talaga ng matibay na foundation

The same through with Baguio. malambot rin ang lupa.

This is a good thread, I've just seen pictures of cities and towns I've never been to and it gives me the feeling of actually visiting them. Keep posting guys and focus on cities excluding Metro Manila and Metro Cebu. ;)

Good thread. It's good that development is slowly being felt in other regions. For half a century development has only centered in MM and to some extent this past decade or so in Cebu. Hoping and wishing that other regions in PH would feel the development brought by the win-win factors of the philippine economy.

Agree. I think Davao is soon to have a defined skyline in the future.

the city's upcoming highrises will be dictated by solid market, recently Ayala's 26-storey luxury condo project, Abreeza Residences was already sold at 90% in just few weeks of preselling alone.

Wow...transformation of Cebu's skyline is remarkably fast. :okay: Now I can hardly identify which building is which if its not for the iconic Waterfront Hotel. :okay: Never imagined it will change that quick, and it's just been 3 yrs. Awesome! I guess im in for a big surprise in the coming months.

Davao City has skyline since it has 6 or 7 skyscrapers. This city/urban center comes third with most skyscrapers after Metro Manila and Metro Cebu. Skyscraper is considered a multi-story building with at least 35m of height above sidewalk level up to its roof, parapet or spire.

I believe Lapu-Lapu City has more than ten 10 existing structures right now and more or less another 10 under construction or still to be constructed as of this date... :)

Pero extensive man ang skyline ng Metro Manila and it compensates for that flaw. When you look at it, it really looks like New York at night with all the buildings lit up in bright city lights.

Also, even if it lacks an iconic supertall like the Petronas Towers of Kuala Lumpur, the over-all impression of the cluster of buildings is enough to awe anyone looking at it. And positively I expect MM to have an iconic building that can make it unique from all the other Capital metropolises in the world. ;)

@slerz, mas maganda ang metro manila skyline pag kinunan mo sa nay abs-cbn or gma building, pag antipolo or fairview area kasi maraming building ang natatakpan at mataas ang area ng mandaluyong at global city,matataas na mga bundok kasi ang pinaglagyan ng ortigas at san juan around 30 meters ang elevation mula sa manila city area.

we counted it last june, around 500 skyscrapers na ang metro skyline at lahat yun ay 20 stories and up

^^Yeah, the remaining larger swathes of greenery in Metro Manila are mostly golf courses. I wish we had more parks though. Utot lang ang Ayala Triangle Gardens compared to these golf courses. Although of course we have Rizal Park. But it's still tiny compared to NYC's Central Park or London's Hyde Park.

ang birch tower cebu soon to be the tallest sa pagkaka hula ko lang

yung sa taft kasi ay 50 residential at 5 water tank,mechanical at helipad

sa cebu naman 53 plus 2 floors na parapet

parehas ang hitsura sa loob pero mas maganda ang sa cebu dahil may box at mas modern ang upper floors

ang birch tower manila ay 185 meters tall, so, probably birch tower cebu ang magiging tallest sa cebu and outside metro manila, and hopefully madagdagan pa into 60 or 70 floors

196meters ang Birch Residences sa Cebu as per info. Pero it can still reach more than 200 meters daw kase may changes pa daw na ginagawa... sana maging 70 floors:D kase walang height restriction yung part na yun sa Cebu City... as I heard this developer is planning a 60 or 70 floor 3.7 floor to ceiling height condo sa Manila area pero di natuloy daw sa height restrictions...:yes:

Birch Residences Cebu(53F) will be taller than the Horizons 101 tower (55F)

oo nga eh, kung pwede nga lang 88 storey at 888 feet kasi maraming chinese sa cebu

sa manila kasi yung isang project nila, naging 68 floors nalang from 78, may limit sa 250 meters dahil nasa daanan ng landing and take off ng runway 2 sa naia,

yup. pero yung mga buildings dyan eh 3-6 palapag lang.. gaya ng sabi ni hugodiekonig sa 1st page, di na pwedeng pagtayuan ng mataas na buildings gaya ng Baguio, malambot kasi ang lupa. pag nagkaearthquake tumba agad yung mga buildings gaya nung 1990 killer earthquake..back to zero ang dagupan at baguio pero kita mo naman after a years nakabangon agad ang 2 pambato ng norte at namaintain nila ang status nila bilang 1st and 2nd city of north luzon.<<<sana walang magreact. hehe :):cheers:

based from that definition, I think at least most cities already have a skyscraper. Many cities have a building or buildings >35 meters

This 35m threshold or minimum height is achievable with buildings that has a minimum of 11 or 12 stories with low floor to floor heights for residential buildings. For office building it may have at least 10 floors. The 35m height must include the spire, mechanical floor, parapet, helipad and/or access room at roof deck.

Cities or metros with existing buildings reached 35m are Metro Manila, Metro Cebu, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Bacolod, Tagaytay, San Nicolas in Ilocos Norte, Baguio. And maybe in Zamboanga, Iloilo, Olongapo/Subic, Angeles, Dagupan and in Cainta.

Sayang lang talaga hindi kumpol-kumpol ang skylines ng MM.
Metropolitan kasi with competing cities wanted to have their own CBDs and even township and corporate cities. We have many cores of skyscrapers with this our skyline comprises of the metropolitan not just one city alone.

singapore ay around 600 pati na ang mga mass housing nila

jakarta ay may around 400 din

ang hong kong ay 900-1000 plus

saigon ay may 30-40, parang cebu pero nagkaroon lang sila ng 3 matataas.

Our very own Metro Manila has around 700 buildings for the metro area. Metro KL has more buildings than the figure for the city alone, maybe 800 or 900 building all in all which includes metro cities like Putrajaya, Subang Jaya, Kelang and others. For metro Jakarta figures may also rise.

I worry about Dagupan. saturated ang soil. Not good na pagtayuan ng tall buildings. dapat pa nga up to around 3 stories lang sana ang maximum na height ng mga buildings, kahit pa mat footing o pile footing ang foundation nito, unless gawan talaga ng matibay na foundation

The same through with Baguio. malambot rin ang lupa.
Marami kasi areas sa Dagupan ay reclaimed lands, pero sa area malapit sa City Hall at sa simbahan ay hindi reclaimed lands kaya dyan sa area mas konti ang damaged buildings. Yang McAdore Building malapit sa simbahan ay hindi rin damaged dahil sa pile foundation ang naka designed sa foundation although non-operational na ngayon. That building was the first 5 star hotel in the north and had a revolving restaurant.

At puede magtayo ng highrise sa Dagupan basta pile foundation ang gamitin deep enough to reach the bedrock, mapapamahal nga lang ang cost.

mas malaki kase ang nakukuha ng Urdaneta sa Notional Govt kaysa Dagupan City, pero in terms of locally generated income mas mataas pa rin ang Dagupan City ng almost 2x.

yup.madaming reclaimed lands sa Dagupan, ex. CSI Lucao & Stadia. pero ni isa di tinayuan ng mga buildings na 7floors+.. yung old mcadore which is pinakamataas na bldg sa dagupan eh delikado ng gamitin kasi kahit anong time pwede itong bumigay. di po pwdeng magreclaim sa lingayen gulf kasi malakas ang alon dun, kaya walang nagrereclaim at wala man lang seaport dun.

btw, may proposed 20storey building sa Dagupan pero nacancel ata.sayang naman..sana ituloy nila :)

mas mataas na ang Urdaneta both income at IRA :) pero di nalalayo ang dalawa. medyo malaki lang ang area ng Urdaneta(100 km2) compared to Dagupan(37 km2, 60% wetland, 40% dryland)

Akala kasi by city yo'ng exception, hindi by metro...Kasi sa Manila kasi, every component cities ay may mga defined na skylines na. Sa Cebu, Cebu City pa lang talaga ang may medyo defined na skylines.

I hope, oks pa rin dito ang Lapu-lapu City at Mandaue City.
