heard of that too. I had the chance to stay at this hotel several times and it's pretty spacious. the casino could have been occupying some of those spaces before.

cebu's definitely the number one here. i think everyone who posted their list here agrees. i love the mountains. they are nice for background. if they continue building up more it can even look better than metro manila's skyline. our mountains here (from rizal) don't look as grand. maybe not as close or visible.

i dunno which skyline's next though. to other skylines mentioned here, i've only been to baguio. it's pretty charming up there but no scraper there to add some drama. the pics from other cities are good as well. seems like there really is not much density or height anywhere else. but i'm really glad to hear that for the past few years everyone's building up. i wonder how would the list look in 10-15 years.

baguio should sit solidly at #3..if only for the number of midrise buildings standing close to each other...

IMO there is no such thing as Metro Cebu skyline because what we only see here is the Cebu City skyline, and now the Mactan Island skyline ;)

but if we talk about the skyline, ambot unsaon pag kuha sa skyline sa cebucity, mandaue ug mactan island in one scene.

tapos naa bay skyline ang mandaue city? murag warehouse man kasagaran ilaha except of course sa san mig and cicc, cicc if it could stand out sa skyline sa mandaue. pero murag mubo ra man ang cicc.

but i think to be fair sa ubang cities, mactan should be in cebu's package na lang.

Hala, ako kay I love the north side especially when driving on diversion road and onto the DIA. Even when I was coming from a trip outside Davao, the moment I stepped out of the airport, I would always get excited looking around on my way home while passing through McArthur Hwy with the majestic Apo beckoning on you on a clear day ..and with the lush foliage along the clean, well manicured thoroughfares. Hmmm, I could smell fresh air.

Dunno but there's different feel in this side of the city in fact given the chance I'd love to build a house in Sun City. I'm just so smitten by the aura of this place. I live in the Buhangin area and that could point to why I'd love to stay stuck there.

ha ha sinabi mo.. ganda sana non kung nakunan mo ng shot bai..sayang. (chip-in na kasi tayo para sa cam he he). Paano na lang kaya pag nagsulputan na ang mga high rise buildings dyan sa Riverfront noh? wow! Kung natuloy yong 35 storey tower ni Escora (former owner of Durian Hotel) dyan sa may bandang Kutips' Grill, hanep siguro yon. Tinamaan kasi ng asian crisis eh.
Buhay pa ba ang Kutips? Sarap na kinilaw dyan and sugbang pusit.

^^ bilib din ako sa kutips hanggang ngayon buhay pa rin. lumalaban pa rin sa jack's ridge at hilltop.

skyscrapers kasi ang pinag uusapan kaya I thought that should be the basis and premise. Anyhow, no big deal naman. I'm just thinking aloud there.

i guess the more appropriate term for this thread is best cityscapes... coz if we say skyline, it is with respect to the blend of everything that you see in the horizon not just the buidings but mountains and other natural stuff as well. that's why i voted for cebu and baguio coz i think they have the most dramatic "skyline" per se..
i guess my vote now has to be:

1. cebu (+mactan) -the best! no question
2. baguio- nice!!!
3. davao (though it has massive buildings, i think it is not as picturesque
as baguio..)
4. iloilo, cdo, bacolod -they deserve a tie..
5. zamboanga -compact but not as organized as the cities above..

( i haven't seen all the pics yet when i first voted so i hope i am entitled to change my opinion, right?!)

but hey, haven't you guys noticed that philippine skylines are nice!!! though some really stand out than the others i still have to confess that our skylines have the potential to be at par with the rest of the world!!!

in fairness to davao, it has a beautiful skyline only if the shot is taken from samal island with a hi-res cam of course, capturing the beauty of mt. apo. i envy the legazpi city shot with mt. mayon as backdrop, it's so beautiful too.

most davao shots are taken the other way around, samal island as the backdrop... well i guess, i have to post these pictures for you to understand what i am saying...

I couldn't agree more. It is so because most of our cities are sitting on either beside bodies of water or at the foothill of verdant mountains. Some cities are luckier though to have both in their surroundings such as that of Davao and Cagayan de Oro in Mindanao and Cebu in the Visayas.

pero ako, i still think Davao has a better skyline than Mactan..(sure they Hilton can challenge Marco Polo, pero naa ba man tay Landco, PRyce, Durian, Grand Regal,Mandaya Towers, Davao Doc, MEtrobank..etc.etc....:D

plus DC has the City setting compared to Mactan's Resort feel :D

hey, bacolod looks realy nice.. i've been there only once and i was alone, and yup i didn't get lost, your city's lay out was so organized and its easy to get around... i fell in love with bacolod... though back home at iloilo, i heard a lot of competition about our cities, i guess, yours and mine have a lot more in common than something to compare about, though i must admit i love my city more than yours (as anyone would have to), i really admire bacolod a lot and its beyond reason...

actually Lucena is only a Barangay of Tayabas Town here ,dahil na rin sa Tayabas is the capital of Quezon and large land area noon kaya nagkaroon ng chance na humiwalay ang nayon ng Lucena Now it became a highly urbanize city and Tayabas is still a town but qualified for cityhood. yes Lucena has a number of historic spots like Perez park the only sunken park outside manila,Tayabas Capitol,St. Ferdinand Cathedral, Hermano pule and ML Quezon Monument ,still existing mga old houses, pero mas maraming historical spot ang Tayabas.

ibig ko pong sabihin nun, sila ang equivalent ng Pryce and Landco nung 70s, kasi sila ang mga tall buildings ng Davao noon 70s (tapos magkatabi pa) tapos yung Hotel Maguindanao (8 storeys) sya ang equivalent ng MArco Polo davao now, kasi malayo siya ng konti sa dalawang yan..:D

Although most are not so ideal, MAKATI has the best infrastructure and Is the WEALTHIEST city in terms of per capita so there it goes.

Famous Session road will never be ignored in terms of urban development.
9.General Santos City (tie)
-"Gen.San" is a bustling city with lots of poverty... Progress became evident when Manny Pacqiuao gained fame through boxing and so did Gensan through Manny. = )
8.Angeles City
-home to Clark airbase making businesses just appear out of thin air. The hotels have a good competition because of the int'l airport, thus turning its rugged skyline into a medium modern style...
7.Tuguegarao City
-impressive CBD, the Max's,Greenwich,Jollibee and Mcdo plus other resto's are located close to each other (separate bldgs) making them build higher just to get the attention of people. Hotel Roma is one of the tallest buildings i've ever seen in the northeastern Luzon.
6.Zamboanga City
-Zamboanga's CBD is crowded with 4-8 flr buildings and just a narrow street some buildings look old while others look great, worthy for residents to be proud of.
5.Bacolod City
-i like that impressive 4 lane street which has a number of buildings, quite unsure of its ranking...
4.Cagayan de Oro City
-its a great city with a good reputaion. Home to Lim Ket Kai center which paved the way for more and bigger bussinessess. More business, more buildings
3.Davao City (and metro area)
-this city is turning Mindanao into an urban site. The tall buildings seem to be quite distant from other tall buildings giving space for more high rise buildings...
2.Cebu City (and metro area)
-off course, anyone would put this city as one of the country's most impressive skyline. Cebu is definitely a world city that needs some recognition for good infastructure. Have a great ASEAN summit!!!

-there is no scyscraper that will outbeauty the majestic Mayon volcano. Its skyline is dealt with a graceful "swabe" cone that places Legazpi on the top of the chart. Urbanly speaking, this city does have several buildings of mature height. one good example is the homegrown LCC mall and office building which soars up to 12 floors (midrise-highrise) Without Mayon though, Legaspi would be ranked far below other big cities. "men stopped falling in love with nature"... The city's skyline with majestic Mayon shall never forget to take your breath away. there is a big possibility for biulings to grow upwards intstead of sideways like what happened to NYC, why?, becaus on the east is the Albay gulf and Pacific ocean,on the south are several rolling hills on the north, the cautious volcaniclly active area and west the municipality of Daraga,so, the city is "kulong", Anyway, its skyline would look much better if the Mayon had Daughter skyscrapers,right?...
