This project actually consists of 2 towers, side-by-side. The taller one is 147m/50 storeys and the shorter one is 119m/38 storeys. Both contain luxury highrise apartments, and there will be a cocktail bar on the 50th floor of the taller tower.

Groundwork has been underway on this site for a while now, and the core is expected to begin rising soon.

They will stand just to the south of the main Canary Wharf cluster. Also being constructed nearby is the Crossharbour Tower (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=346612).

you can see the London arena in the background where to my knowledge is where crossharbour will be. that view will look good in a few years.

That's right. The spires were ditched for the flat topped, art-deco theme.

I just want to win the lottery and buy one of those penthouses with view of CW... :)

The West (smaller) Tower is slightly more advanced than the East Tower, but not by much.

You're not going to see nothing unless you get onto the DLR platform at south quay. Which is where it's at btw.

^^ Yeah but be careful if you dont have a vaild ticket, I nearly got caught today :)

Off topic bu very true, one is very likely to have his ticket checked at least once getting on DLR, except rush hour, DLR's efficient on every level i find.
Besides that, i would just leave the photo sessions alone for a couple of weeks, it won't be long before the cores rise above the hoarding, at least from street level.

The development includes more than 700 units and is due for completion in 2008 - one year ahead of initial schedule and due to strong sales.

I've never been checked on the DLR :dunno: .... the stations I use most are Lewisham and Canary Wharf.

I predict the East Tower to be around 1 month behind the West.

You can so often get away without a ticket on the DLR, but its really not worth it because every so often the inspector will come round.

Yep, South East's where the actions at.

This looks like it'll be a very nice addition to the mixture of towers already in London. Just wondering on those really close-up shots - the concrete columns look extremely worn where all the surface slabs are for viewing the site I suppose. Are there plans to fix that or are they just in much better shape than they appear to be?

Yep, I took it yesterday along with all the others. It was a beautiful day for photos, so I decided to extend my trip past Canary Wharf to the Excel Centre and London City Airport, to take photos there.

... Leona will one day rule the world ;) Good looks, great voice, modest... what more could people want!

I just wanted to say that the content of this thread is quite engaging and all of the praise and detailed photography of the construction status has been appreciated. Keep up the good work.

With London building and proposing so many great modern scrapers, there has to be 1 or 2 duds - These are definitely those 2.

That way, things such as kitchens and bathrooms can be fitted in early. If they waited for the whole building to be completed before starting the cladding, it would take longer.

I think it looks quite nice... so long as they keep it clean it will last well. Thought this was gonna be a short stumpy looking building (despite the figures given for its size) when I first saw construction photos.... definately looking like it will make a nice impact now.

Wow! That would have been quite a nice tower for London. What were getting is ok, but that would have been awesome!

The irony is that what they ended up with is far denser than the original proposal rejected for being too tall.

Looks quite ordinary but modern. They do have some features that brings New York to my mind but still a very nice project. What a fantastic building to live in. The hight is very impressive when considered as a residential building. There will be quite a few appartments in fifty floors. Can anybody tell me, how far from the Central London are those situated? Only 1 Canada Square has more storeysI think the taller Pan Peninsula tower actually has more occupied floors at or above ground level - 48 to 1 Canada Square's 47. Both are marketted as 50-storey towers but I think that must include basement levels and, in 1 Canada's Square's case, maybe a service floor or two as well.

Well in Paris' case i suppose they could only build towers like this in LD and i dont think its really that desirable a residential area to command the prices needed to make this type of tower profitable.

i cant believe how fast its gone up, i was there 2 weeks ago and its changed so much.

nice updates looks like they gave more density to Canary Wharf I still rember seeing pics of the wharf when it was just 1 Canada Square amzing progress has been seen in the last few years.

I like the new towers and their impact on the Canary Warf's skyline. I want to travel to London again. This happens with the cities that are constantly renewed.

The night time lights at Canary Wharf and the surrounding area are fantastic, the dome has now got its evening lighting scheme up and running - directly opposite Ontario tower and very visible from Canary Wharf - the struts that stick out of the dome change colour and flash and the circular drum like structures that surround the dome now have video wrap around advertising screens - it all looks very exciting. The Miami style lighting scheme for Pan Peninsula will only add to all this, it all looks brilliant.

people saying things like "it should be twice as tall" etc should realise that there are complexities of the wharf location due to soil etc, and that with a royal thanks to the crappy City Airport, flight paths limit building height to a stupid degree (i.e. roughly no higher than 1 canada square - which was originally intended to be 4 - 10 stories higher).
+ its hard to forget, but the councils, even at the wharf, tend to be ass's - basically, it ain't that simple, specially if your just looking for a quick buck.

One thing with these towers....they look a great deal taller than 147m.

One thing is for sure, it is a breadtaking transformation for the London skyline. When it will all be finished it will look like little Manhatten :).

The neon lights are on! They were cycling last night. Only the tope now has been litten, although according to the renders the neon should go down the whole tower, lets hope they haven't scratched that plan.

I do like these towers, but I don't think they fit in too well wit the existing buildings...also, they seem to have been in a state of 'almost completeness' for ages now!

Perhaps one of the cognoscenti here who might be up on architectural trends could help me identify this style? Is it International style?

I like it.. yeah, the neon atop the building is a little too Miami but it does stand out when none of the other buildings around it have it too. Very sleek. I could see myself living out of one of those flats.

From the price i purchased on launch day the valuer has put a price on my property £70.000 below what i paid. This is a disaster and i have contacted Ballymore and they are aware of the situation although they could not quite believe it. Approx 70% of the purchases will have valuations done through Colliers so as you can imagine Ballymore are very concerned with this. This is my first of two purchases on PP so i could be well out of pocket on this, what we need to find out as owners is, are there anybody else in the same boat as us. I think Ballymore are trying to get all the Valuations from Colliers and then they are going to contest them. As owners we need to all stick together as it will certainly be strength in numbers as Ballymore cannot afford for 70% of customers to pull out.

Any views would be very welcome

Indeed, the neon lights are quite clear in the pics above - the verticles aren't lit, but they have been tested, and they do exist.
