^^ Yeah, Etisalat blocked flickr. Would it be too much trouble to paste the pic in another way like using www.imageshack.ws??

Pearl of the Gulf

quick question; the sand used in the reclamation of the pearl was it imported? it looks really white.

Halawala
May 7th, 2006, 07:03 PM
Thanks Pearl of the Gulf for the pic and Salman, thats amazing how the Pearl is completed. But anyone notice that they actually created more land than needed for the Pearl? Also, I have placed some names in Key Projects in Doha (nothing new, but still interesting). Tell me if I should add more things.

Actually, the sand is taken from the sea bed. And during land reclaimation, calcite shell fragments are broken down to create a more dense material suitable for land creation. So, perhaps the white sand is the shells... You can also see that the Dafna area is white considering it too was reclaimed (hence the name)...

That "extra" reclaimed part is big! It is almost half the size of the original!

Halawala
May 7th, 2006, 07:52 PM
Maybe its the additional islands that was declared earlier. who knows?

omarmakki
May 7th, 2006, 08:06 PM
Yea... That's Losail.
It is actually alot bigger than I thought...
Anyways, have you seen any zoomed photos. I mean closer to the buildings, roads...etc

Halawala
May 7th, 2006, 08:08 PM
thanks for the pic, yes that is the motogp track there. Its hard to imagine that area over the Pearl will become lusail! 200 000 people are going to live in this desert.

no i'm afraid that for the updated high-resolution photos, you have to purchase the prints.

guys i did a little editing with lusail

http://i3.tinypic.com/xejs69.jpg
is that right? i always thought lusail was much bigger? i tried making it bigger but it would fit in with the satellite photo any bigger than this picture..

Good job there Pearl of the Gulf!
I've never thought that Lusail will be that close from the Pearl...

Halawala
May 7th, 2006, 09:07 PM
Wow thanks for the pics. I think your depiction of Lusail is right on! It looks small. The islands according to ur picture wont be reclaimed, instead the sea will be dug-up. Good job man!

Pearl of the Gulf
May 7th, 2006, 09:15 PM
i guess if that looks right then I never expected the pearl being sooo huge.

May 7th, 2006, 09:21 PM
good job man everything is right too bad the airport isnt clear
btw whats that thing between lusail and west bay

Halawala
May 7th, 2006, 09:57 PM
Well I just thought of something I read about earlier.
THE PEARL- Area is 4 km2
LUSAL- Area is 35 km2

According to the Drawing, the areas are not proportional. Either the Pearl is bigger than 4 km2 or the LUSAIL is less than 35 km2. But, I am pretty sure your pic, Pearl, is right.

I doubt anything is like planned. Lusail does seem small for 35 square kilometers though--or maybe it is.. I dont know the scale in these photos

Seriously I heard Safliyah or Aaliyah Islands (one of them) are going to have chalets. Also, Palm Tree Island are going to have chalets. I think Palm Tree island should turn into a modern hotel like the Sheraton or something.

dave550

Palm Island is supposed to be a 5 star touristic site

whats a ( chalets ) any way i think also that the palm tree island needs a 5 star hotel andthe only ways of geting to the cornish is by a metro or a ship cool ha!!!!!

dave550
May 14th, 2006, 08:54 AM
^^A chalet is the same thing as a shalaih in Arabic. A metro system to connect the Palm Isle by the Courniche would be VERY expensive and impractical

They should build it from the top of the National Library to the Palm Island over the bay.

Honestyly that would look ugly and cluttered, and would just take away from the beauty of the corniche and the sea. Let's not build a Matrix like city please.

Thanks for the pic. Work is pretty fast, almost all the land is reclaimed. Now, they have to build the actual infrastructure. I hope they finish in time. Only 2.5 more years left until the first flight.
