The Midland Hotel in Morecambe is one of my favourite buildings and Urban Spalsh are one of my favourite developers and they'll soon be working together. Some time last year Lancaster council sold the hotel to Urban Splash who will renovate this deco masterpeice and rebuild its status as a beacon of Morecambes hey day when it was one of the most desirable places to be seen in Britain.

This project has wide significance for Morecambe and its renovation is seen as essential if Morecambe is to continue its regeneration efforts. The project is a very sympathetic restoration and will look fantastic when complete.

Please visit the website and have a look, its a brilliant site in good tounge in cheek urban splash style and in the meantime here are some pics:

Awesome building! Like you I really rate Urban Splash, they're some of the most sympathetic and innovative developers out there taking on stuff that other developers haven't got the vision to see the potential in. Look forward to seeing the outcome!

Isn't there some problem with the build of the hotel and the corrosive effects of salt water?

Probably, but the developers are on site and work is well underway so I would expect these problems to be solved.

Its about time. They have been going on about this for years. The Morcambe waterfront is quite pleasant now. This can only improve things.

New renders that include the new extension (which while inkeeping and needed to secure the future of the hotel for me ruind the dramatic symmetry)

Actually not sure if they are new renders or old ones. The extension may have been rejected as most of the urban splash renders are without it. Hmm....

This forms part of a new regeneration area too with the former bubbles site to be redeveloped, the masterplan for this is currently being decided on in a RIBA competition. Some of the finalists are excellent.

That really needs doing up. It is a beautiful old building which reminds me of the seaside and its good that it isnt facing the wrecking ball.

Morcambe is finally seeing its decline come to a halt and things are going back uphill as the town develops a new face. The seafront walk is really nice now. There are plenty of large scale developments going on around the town too. Could become a popular little resort, especially if the M6 link road to Heysham gets built.
