Hi again :)

I'm guesing this would be the best place to ask since you lot seem to know the ins and outs plus all the contact addresses of people in the know!

For anyone who is familiar with it, LongBenton road (Newcastle) is a nightmare during peak times, and never more so than now. Due to a recent starting of a one-way system at the Ministry, cars are now queuing in the central reservation to get on site. This means that hundreds of people who use the bus and/or Metro system have to cross this "new 3-lane" road with minimal crossing points.

However today is was dismayed and angered to find that the only central island crossing point had been removed. I have almost been hit twice now getting across that road during times when the traffic is not quite as bad as it gets during rush hour. Developments are ongoing but there is seemingly no contact address to anyone about road users & pedestrian safety on the Newcastle City Council's website.

I wonder if it will take someone to get killed on that road before someone does something useful for a change.... :bash:

So, does anyone know where I could find such a complaint address or indeed someone who may know of future road developments in the area as I'm guessing proper crossings may be installed in the future?

Thanks for your time and any forthcoming reply.

They must have a website with details of their complaints procedure

I've already looked at the website, but never found any contact address for complaints. Also took a look under traffic management, safety etc. I didn't know there was a "puffin crossing" lol.

So the site hasn't been too much help as of yet.

Erm oops, ok so I found an e-complaints form :(

It wasn't even linked on their site! But a google search found it instead :D

As something else though; I'm curious about this which maybe someone with more road marking sense than me can answer.

Although its not exactly an ideal example, the markings on the road in the image are the same as those which go up about 1/3 of the length of the road I've been harping on about. I was told by my dad years back its actually illegal for anyone but emergency vehicles to drive down these (purposefully down them that is). Is this true?

Thanks

There are certain regulations they have to work in, so might be worth checking out on a government site.
Good luck

Just ring the council (0191 2328520) and ask to speak to someone in Highways. Where abouts is Longbenton Rd? I'm sure you know Longbenton itself isn't in Newcastle, but I guess this is the road running from the town towards it... I know the area pretty well but not the road names. And if you want to complain, the central switchboard will tell you who to complain to. Your local councillors (and MP if you think he could be arsed) are always a good bet.
