Mamino Zlato May 14th, 2006, 07:45 PM I would like to see pictures of Fort McMurray. I tried searching on google but could only find aerial views and very few good pictures, and I am looking for pictures of the streets and buildings and stores and people.
Mamino Zlato May 15th, 2006, 05:29 PM Ok here is something. I have no idea who the pictures belong to, I just found them after searching on the net.

vid May 18th, 2006, 04:25 AM When those two ~100m towers are built, they're gonna completely dominate that city! :O
spongeg May 23rd, 2006, 09:15 AM wow
are those residential?
my brotehr worked in fort mac last year
he said the cheapest places went for $1200+ - he was lucky enough to find a room to rent and even that was over $500 a month
and he said food was like $1 more up there than down south - like if its $5.99 at mcdonalds here (vancouver) it would be like $6.99 up there
Rhino May 23rd, 2006, 08:47 PM yes they are residential . they will blow the NORTHERN SKY out of the snow ( lol )
whitefordj June 14th, 2006, 09:04 PM im sure that they wont stay the tallest for long. this skyline will be amazing to watch grow.

ssiguy2 September 22nd, 2006, 08:17 AM What about the downtown.
Is it worth visiting. Are they trying to make the downtown an envy or is the city just OK ing big box?

That’s awesome, these towers are going to massively dominate the skyline. Does anybody know where I could find more information about them ? I’ve found nothing so far.
Oh, and beside, any news about the twinning of the highway 63 ?
isaidso May 6th, 2009, 11:18 AM I've always thought they should go for something radically different for Ft. McMurray on the lines of a space station. It would certainly give this fast growing city another industry besides oil: tourism. Just house everyone in one building, then build another one for the next 100,000 people. Blade Runner meets Star Wars! I'd vacation there just to gawk at it. Please ignore the CN Tower.

I visit the area quite often as I have family there. For the most part, the city is okaying sprawl and big box development, notably up in the 'Thickwood' area (north of the downtown). Heck, they are even planning on upgrading Sakitawaw Trail (the main highway going through the city) to make it even easier to bypass the downtown.
The downtown contains some primary businesses/buildings such as city hall, a lackluster mall (peter pan mall), walmart and the hospital but apart from those places there isn't much downtown and I would hardly call it appealing. In fact, considering the money in Fort McMurray, it's a disgrace. The photos posted in this thread make it look decent but on the ground, it's a different story.
