Broadcasting live from Tehran at PiST

The interdisciplinary project space PiST last week launched an initiative on the topic of Iranian contemporary art, under the guidance of an independent curator and media artist from Tehran.

The second meeting of the “Live from Parkingallery” series will take place Saturday, Jan. 23, between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at PiST, in Istanbul’s Pangaltı neighborhood.

Parkingallery founder Amirali Ghasemi carries out his projects at the independent art space, as well as in different countries and online since 1998. The first part of his collaboration with PiST will be conducted for four weeks in January and February. The research, which started with discussion on clichés and prejudices, will continue with the screening of works by Iranian artists, curated by Ghasemi, as well as question-and-answer sessions via Skype.

In May, Parkingallery will screen works from Turkey under the guidance of PiST and the session will be diverted from Tehran to Istanbul.

The next sessions will take place Feb. 6 and 13. All talks will be held in English.

The only piece of Persian art I have is this silver (or maybe silvered) plate crafted in Isfahan. My parents received it as a gift from their Teherani friend just before the war.

This is some modern contemporary Iranian art by SHIRIN NESHAT. She is really good. She is such an amazing artist. All her work has such meaning and depth to them.

true, there are many social issues in iran, unfortunentaly, but she exposes our culture in that manner. i have never seen any persian, che to farang che too iran from junub shahr to bala shahr to yazd and esfahan and qazvin to tabriz and hamedan and mashhad, to toronto and london and LA..., that treat women with no respect, im being honest, hamashun they have respect, i know it exists, ive seen afghan workers (no offence to our afghan bros) annoy women or some run down bazari worker which stares at an attractive ass,but this is the norm in all the world, lol

shirin neshat points to a small corner of our society that comprises less than 1% of our society, and shee uses it as if it is the everyday norm.yess the regime is like that, but again, neve, since 7000 bc up until now, nowhere in the world i believe, the people in general had the same thought and ideology with the gvrnment, especially in iran.
