From the pictures taken ans that you mentioned that many Koreans staying in your condo complex.....perhaps you are staying at One Ampang Avenue? Actually One Ampang Avenue is at the centre of the 'Korean Town'. The shophouses surrounding the condos is where this 'town' are ;)

You obviously have not been to Cheras for a long long time. :ohno:
Roads in Cheras are less jam and have less potholes compared to those administered by MBPJ and MPSJ.
Yee Haa September 13th, 2006, 09:48 AM Hmm..should go & check it out again then! But just went to visit Kipark Cheras 1-2 month ago..
szehoong September 13th, 2006, 11:35 AM Hmm..should go & check it out again then! But just went to visit Kipark Cheras 1-2 month ago..
I don't need to check it out. I stay in Cheras and work in Cheras so I am in the area everyday.
The KiPark area is full of construction and the access road isn't ready and no wonder you complained of traffic jam and uneven roads. Damansara Perdana used to be like that too. It is unfair to judge that area like that. Furthermore, part of that area is out of DBKL jurisdiction and the MPKj area sucks big time. Furthermore that is a small part of Cheras....isn't that a bias view?
Once KiPark and Alam Damai is ready and you would see how beautiful that place could be.
And it is also unfair to label Cheras as a place with gangsterism. My twenty over odd years of staying here and working here, I have never even once encountered any gangsterism. I am not saying that there aren't (tell me which place is free of that in Klang Valley)......but they are not as rampant as you perceived em to be. In fact most of the well-known gangs are based in Klang and PJ.
Yee Haa September 13th, 2006, 12:10 PM Hmm..sorry if offended dude..Anyway anything Nice in cheras to EAt?
szehoong September 14th, 2006, 08:51 AM Hmm..sorry if offended dude..Anyway anything Nice in cheras to EAt?
Hahaha....no harm done......I am just trying to provide answers and enlightened ppl on any misconception about Cheras thats all. ;)
Hmm.......actually there are many nice and famous food in Cheras but my favourite had to be the BBQ Pork (char siew) at BB Restaurant, Taman Connaught.
The mamak next to Domino's Pizza Taman Connnaught serves the best fried chicken called Ayam Maya.
....there are a lot more lah......when tot of more I would post here. Anything in particular you would like to eat?

MPAJ to hear objections on March 5
Maria J. Dass
PETALING JAYA (Feb 26, 2007): The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) will hold the objection hearing for the proposed development known as Dataran Ukay, in Ukay Heights, Hulu Kelang on March 5.
In a statement today responding to reports of residents protesting against the project, MPAJ public relations officer Norhayati Ahmad said: "Residents have been given an opportunity to voice their objections over the proposed hillside development by writing in to MPAJ."
She said MPAJ had received a planning permission application from Malaysian Assurance Alliance Bhd (MAA), whose subsidiary Panorama Skyline Sdn Bhd plans to build 164 bungalow units and a 10-storey building - comprising 410 shop and office lots with a two-storey basement parking - on a 25ha plot.
MPAJ had sent public objection notices to residents on Jan 22 and 23, who had up to Feb 11 and Feb 12, respectively to send in their written objections.
"Those who have written in can attend the objection hearing on March 5," she said.
All objections raised will be brought to the MPAJ planning and building plans department committee meeting in March.
MPAJ will inform the residents who have objected of the committee's decision, Norhayati said.
"If residents are dissatisfied with the committee's decision, they can then bring it up to the Appeals Board under the Selangor Town and Country Planning Department, which acts as a tribunal for cases pertaining to development," she said.
The local Taman Hijau Residents Association held a press conference yesterday to voice their concerns about the proposed development's impact on the local environment and the risk of landslides.
Contacted by theSun today, the project manager of Dataran Ukay said the company was ready to meet with the residents after the proposed development plan was finalised.
"We ourselves have not obtained any approval for the development, and therefore, the final draft is not complete," said MAA's project manager Ho Chin Hoy.
He said the authorities have been very strict with the project and MAA had to satisfy the requirements of the Public Works Department and the local authority, among others.
He said the company had received three reports from Institut Kerja Raya Malaysia - now Kumpulan IKRAM Sdn Bhd - approving its construction methods.
Ho said the company had gone the extra mile to ensure its methods were sound.
"We have spent RM1.5 million and appointed a consultancy firm as a third party to audit our construction methods," he said.
The company even brought in experts on hillslope protection, development and monitoring systems from Hongkong for their input, he said.
According to Ho, 14.1ha of the 25ha will be developed and the rest will be left as as setbacks, green areas and for roads.
Asked if the hill will be cut and flattened, he said: "Some portions have to be cut and filled, if not there will be no way cars can go up."
However, Class 4 slopes - with gradient exceeding 35 degrees - will not be touched.
The local council had, in the 1980s, approved the development of condominiums on the land, located next to the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2), but the project fell through. MAA came into the picture later with its proposed development.
"We believe that having a development will make the area safer than it is now," said Ho.
"There will be geo-technical pipes installed to allow run-off to flow under the houses and out of the area without washing away the soil."
Asked if the increased run-off water will cause flooding in lower-lying residential properties in the area, Ho said: "This has already been looked into, huge drains have been built under the MRR2 to accommodate the increased water flow during the construction of the highway."
Aware of the residents' concerns, he said that "with the right technology and techniques, we can actually develop the area and make it safer than it is now".

rizalhakim September 28th, 2009, 08:21 AM The changing face of Cheras
By THEAN LEE CHENG
CHERAS is undergoing a transformation. At one time known to be a suburb for petty traders, the township of about 800,000 is slowly changing public perception. It has moved up the status ladder and today holds a large middle class population.
One of Kuala Lumpur’s largest suburbs will today have what may be its first landed strata development.
While there are several projects there which comes with security and perimeter fencing, FAM Development Sdn Bhd says these are not strata projects.
Says chief executive officer Datuk Liew Hoong: “Prior to the Building and Strata Title Act 2007, the previous Strata Title Act governed only condominium projects. While most of us are familiar with vertical strata projects, as in condominiums, there was nothing to govern landed strata projects.

Datuk Liew Hoong (left) and his son Kim Seng, the chief operating officer, with a model of the Taynton Hill bungalows.
Under the Building and Strata Title Act 2007, only owners can decide how things are run in a gated and guarded community.
“Therefore, our project Taynton Hill, which comprises 16 units of three-storey bungalows will be the first strata development here,” he says.
Located in Taynton Estate, with access via the East-West highway and via Jalan Cheras, the 3.2 acre development is located next to Sri Mutiara Secondary School.
Liew says there will be another proposed access via the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2). This will be FAM’s first project after a long hiatus of some 20 years. Its previous project was a residential and commercial development with the Sunway group in Batu Caves in the 1980s.
Bungalow sizes range between 5,800sq ft and 8,600sq ft, with prices ranging from RM3.8mil to more than RM6.5mil. They are expected to be launched in the middle of next month.
The modern contemporary units come with lifts. Five of the 16 units have been sold. Because the project is located on undulating land, each bungalow will be a meter lower from its neighbour.
The company bought the land in 2007 for RM125 per sq feet. It is now worth about RM160 psf today. The project will have a gross development value of RM85mil.
“We are targeting upgraders in Cheras between 35 and 65 years old with extended families,” he says.
Over the years, Cheras has progressed from the usual double-storey terraces to include bungalows. This has subsequently progressed to pockets of small developments with security features and high-perimeter fencing.
“While such projects have been popular among the Cheras population, these are public roads and the local authorities can have these security barriers removed. With Taynton Hill, it will be different,” he says.
Cheras stretches from the Royal Selangor Golf Club along Jalan Tun Razak-Jalan Bukit Bintang intersection to parts of it bordering Kajang. Parts of Cheras have a Selangor address while the larger part of it comes with a Kuala Lumpur address.
There are several developers who are active there at the moment other than FAM. This includes IJM group (Bukit Mandarina and Monte Bayu), Mah Sing group (Hijauan Residence and One Lagenda), Lum Chang group (Twin Palms Cheras) and SPPK with Alam Damai (Syarikat Perumahan Pegawai Kerajaan Sdn Bhd).
While there are several projects going on at present, GuocoLand (M) Bhd’s bungalow and high-rise condominium development Cirrus Cheras will be the one that is physically nearest to FAM’s Taynton Hill. That project is on 16 acres versus FAM’s 3.2 acres. Besides the larger players, there are also several small developers in that area.
Liew says because Cheras is large and sprawling, it is home to a large cross section of the Kuala Lumpur population.
“Several generations stay here and there is constant upgrading among the population. Therefore, even very small developers with small plots of land tend to enjoy good sales when they build here, particularly if the project comes with some sort of security elements,” says Liew.
FAM Development Sdn Bhd is a family business, with Liew at the helm. He is assisted by three of his four children currently. Besides property development, the FAM group has interest in plantation and other business ventures in China and Hong Kong.
nazrey September 30th, 2009, 03:22 AM Syabas plan for a dam in Ampang
Wednesday September 30, 2009
By OH ING YEEN
SYARIKAT Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) has submitted a proposal to the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry for a dam to be built in Ampang, its chief executive officer, Datuk Ruslan Hassan, said.
“This will serve as an alternative water source for the Salak Tinggi water treatment plant and other areas during the dry season,” he said during a site visit to the Salak Tinggi water treatment plant (WTP) following its shutdown on Sunday.
This is the third shutdown due to raw water pollution this year. The first occurred on June 26 resulting in a shutdown for 49 hours and the second incident happened on July 6 and only resumed operations on Aug 19 after 47 days.
According to information provided by Syabas, the shutdown was due to objectional odour, foam and high ammonia content.
At the press conference, Syabas general manager (Water resources and environmental surveillance department, Operations division) Roowina Merican said the latest test showed that the ammonia content measured 1.72 parts per million (ppm) at 2pm on Monday. The permissible level is below 1.5 ppm.
Since 2005, this plant has been shutdown 14 times and 2006 recorded the highest number so far, which is a total of six times.
Ruslan said Syabas was concerned if the treatment plant could function properly as the shutdowns occurred frequently.
“It (ammonia content) depends on the rain. If there’s no rain then the water level will not be high enough to be treated and it is also more concentrated.
“There’s a possiblity that the Salak Tinggi WTP may be shut down for good. The Jelutong and Pusu treatment plants have been returned to the state government as it cannot be treated any more. We hope that we do not have to reach that state,” he said of the Salak Tinggi WTP.
“We hope to come up with a permanent solution because right now the shutdown is just a temporary solution,” he said.
He said the best and most cost-effective solution was to raise awareness about water conservation.
“We will have a meeting with the relevant parties that operate in this area once we compile a list to discuss the solutions,” he said.
