View Full Version : YOUR skyscrapers designs
Newcastle Guy May 28th, 2006, 11:34 PM This is a thread where you can post all your skyscraper designs you have done in google sketchup, other programs or by hand, and have people comment on them:)
Here is mine
It is a tower between 250m-270m that will form the pinnacle to a residential cluster, which will attach to the right of the main city cluster by a group of 80m-150m buildings. It is primarily residential/hotel with shops, bars and restraunts too. The top will house a three floor penthouse and a spire which should take it to about 290m.

Newcastle Guy May 29th, 2006, 01:10 AM Anyone else got any? Warcry, I know yours is good
Medo May 29th, 2006, 01:45 AM nice work newcastle kid :okay: I used to draw skyscrapers when I was younger but they are all on paper and I don't have a scanner
Newcastle Guy May 29th, 2006, 01:52 AM Thanks:) If you get a scanner it would be great to see your designs:)
Here is another one I have just done quickly, alot more curves with this one
It would stand on blackfriars road near Beetham and Wilkinson eyre at about 150m, Providing a nice step down to the cluster. It would be completely residential.

johnnypd May 29th, 2006, 02:06 AM newcastle_kid your first design looks like the burj dubai
warcry May 29th, 2006, 09:21 AM I have removed this to stop rival architecs stealing the idea.
there is a reason for this action and you will see the reason in about 20 years maximum.
Newcastle Guy May 29th, 2006, 01:39 PM I really like that design, as sad in the other thread the crown really makes that building
Newcastle Guy May 29th, 2006, 01:41 PM newcastle_kid your first design looks like the burj dubai
Yeah, I know it does look abit like it, but the Burj comes off alot more curvy and round than mine, mine is more simpe, alot more square
JDRS May 29th, 2006, 03:30 PM newcastle_kid your first design looks like the burj dubai
Yeah that's what I was thinking. Looks like something out of Asia and in a way reminds me of the Taipei 101 tower as well.
warcry May 29th, 2006, 04:31 PM i have removed this to stop rival architecs from stealing the idea of this building.
Newcastle Guy May 29th, 2006, 04:43 PM WOW

yes it is :)
im going to lie down my brain hurts and so does my eyesite
The best tower i have done so far is easily "Slice of Beauty"
Newcastle Guy May 29th, 2006, 06:08 PM Here is another one, backstory inspired by Warcry's "Slice of Beauty"
A tower standing 250m-400m on the site of Arrowhead quay. The current planned project is small and bland, this one would hopefully suit the area more, but at the same time vary from the extreme-boxiness.
It would be office and residential, with a resteraunt and bar at the very top. The top of the tower would also be open to the public.
Obviously nothig like this will ever be built around here if LCA continues to run.
http://www.magix-photos.com/mediapool00/54/48/6F/30/77/16/11/DA/85/15/20/23/52/27/29/83/oma/10/15DD5570EF2B11DA9C5A829052272983.jpg
As you can (hopefully) see from the aerial view, the tower is supposedto be the shape of an arrowhead.
Prestonian May 29th, 2006, 06:38 PM I think the wing one of warcry is exactly the style that the city is looking for. Something a little more conservative in shape but with a smart crown feature. Sets off the skyline nicely. Liking the angulars too Newcastle Kid.
I did a tower once then Ken Shuttleworth called it Vortex ;) Mine was far more slender and less tapered though.
Fragmentor May 29th, 2006, 07:08 PM Im working on a stadium at the moment, not quite a skyscraper but the process is the same
jef May 29th, 2006, 10:46 PM 3D model of the City of London (zno, barnabu, myself) into google Earth:

TallBox May 29th, 2006, 11:07 PM wow, some of those designs are fantastic! i really don't have the stamina for hard-core computer rednering (wouldn't know where to start), but i've done a few on paint for superpolis (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=308) and also by hand...
http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/3683/copyofe0gq.jpg
and also all my drawings for superpolis...
http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/6763/28qw.png

Newcastle Guy May 29th, 2006, 11:29 PM I really like the two on the left of your second pic, kind of looks a bit like skyhouse
Fragmentor May 30th, 2006, 08:12 AM They look very good, especially the drawings
hellolazyness May 30th, 2006, 11:21 AM Edit :(
Chief Gherkin May 30th, 2006, 01:00 PM I think something with an asian style crown, almost like slice of beauty, central plaza or the centre in hong kong would look great
Skid-Mark May 30th, 2006, 07:03 PM well, here's my design (this is a side profile) It's called Re Hows Tower.
http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/2962/rehowstower1a9ny.jpg http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/5250/rehowstower2a4kn.jpg
This is a 60 storey tower topping out at just under 200m, it is situated directly in front of the English Heritage building and is to be entirely social housing for the local comunity.
At night this tower will come alive in a dazzling light and laser show with strobes being projected from the adjoining multi storey carpark.
Planing approval is due shortly.
Jamandell (d69) May 30th, 2006, 09:29 PM Are the lasers sent directly into the windows of the English Heritage building? ;)

I think i'll call it Bright tower or Bright House.
London May 31st, 2006, 03:19 AM Wow  Make architects eat your heart out :)
Amazing... its official name may be Bright tower, but i rekon it's nickname can be Diamond Tower, eh? Billiant

What program did you use to create that?
Skid-Mark May 31st, 2006, 10:25 AM Are the lasers sent directly into the windows of the English Heritage building? ;)
Yes, they are also powered from the mains supply in the english heritage building.
warcry May 31st, 2006, 10:30 AM Yes, they are also powered from the mains supply in the english heritage building.
whay dont u guys like EH?? all they are doing is trying to protect our heritage.
look what happened in the 60's and 70's when they were not there!
Fragmentor May 31st, 2006, 10:33 AM yeah but they choose to block The Shard but not a development of a beautiful old building which is being turned into a faceless wall of glass
Skid-Mark May 31st, 2006, 10:35 AM Exactly, what we ideally want is to replace all and only the 60's/70's stuff, i love alot of the georgian and regency buildings.
warcry May 31st, 2006, 10:45 AM yeah but they choose to block The Shard but not a development of a beautiful old building which is being turned into a faceless wall of glass
oh well there just plain stupid in that case :(
warcry May 31st, 2006, 12:42 PM ALL MY BUILDINGS ARE LEAGALLY COPYRIGHTED PLEASE REMOVE THEM FROM YOUR QUOTES OR COULD A MODERATOR PLEASE REMOVE ANY PICTURES OF THEM ON THIS WEBSITE.
TO STOP RIVAL ARCHITECS STEALING THE IDEA THAT IS WHY I HAVE TAKEN THIS DRASTIC ACTION.
London May 31st, 2006, 12:46 PM Wow!
lol, that building so deserves a location on the skyline
It could even pull it off at minerva's old site since its so tall and dominant :colgate:
eXSBass May 31st, 2006, 12:48 PM Why don't you guys keep your Google Models in one thread?
I see various threads being hijacked then users talking about how they created this and that in Google Earth etc. Not a rant, it's just a suggestion. Just to keep things a little bit more neat because then all people can share thier Google work in one big thread instead of having to scrounge and look.
Consider it please :)
Newcastle Guy May 31st, 2006, 02:46 PM Ontario Tower (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=9003579325572ec0fb519cb9f5fb5b77&ctyp=sm)
contains the lowrise apartments, too

That was actually the whole point of this thread, but I thought because I wasnt actaully designing my own buildings I was designing buildings that are actually planned or U/C I would put them in the main London thread, But sure I will keep all of them in this thread instead:)
kids June 1st, 2006, 12:21 PM Thanks for the responses to my model :)
What program did you use to create that?
I used 3ds max 8.
TampaMike June 1st, 2006, 01:38 PM Great designs to all. I wish I had the program to make some, but I don't. So I just do crappy ones on Paint :ha:
Newcastle Guy October 24th, 2006, 01:39 AM Just wondering, why was every post of Warcry's deleted?

Not really a skyscraper, more of a midrise. This is probably one of the best "high-rises" ive done so far, and it's not even finished!
Recently, ive really started to embrace Art Deco and so started modelling the only true Art Deco building in Newport (Casnewydd): The former "Odeon" Cinema:
http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/43/newportsv7.jpg
http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/1491/odeoncinemawc5.jpg
I started it about three days ago.
Leeds No.1 October 24th, 2006, 10:18 PM That ODEON is exaclty the same as Harrogate ODEON.
Skid-Mark October 25th, 2006, 10:34 PM Very impressive 6underground, your tower looks like the one in cardiff.
Jim October 28th, 2006, 02:21 AM Very impressive 6underground, your tower looks like the one in cardiff.
I think that's the whole point!
aquablue October 29th, 2006, 03:01 AM how would one render the 'shard' using sketchup? Its difficult because i can't find views from all angles. Does anyone have plans/sections of the thing?
